On my install it lists the phone as "Optimus one". I am guessing this is the same model or do I have the wrong version of ROM Manager ?

See this :- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038338
you will get to know everything.

our phone isnt supported with rom manager yet, there is clockworkmod for our phone though but you need to install it through odin
Download Odin 4.28 and the ClockworkMod file, and flash your phone to CWM that way, it works- thats how i got my phone running CM7.1.

No need for links. Clockworkmod Recovery is now officially available through ROM Manager.
Solved (for me)
I also have a Samsung GT I5500 (Galaxy 5, Europa)
So, as I see, Rom Manager free isn't available for Android 2.1 (that's the version I had).
Although, Clockwork recovery can be installed using Odin, but to start the phone in "recovery" mode it's needed to do it trough the console in the computer, using the developer tools (with adb) ...or, use it just after it's installed.
After installing that recovery image it's automatically started, for the first time.
But you can use it to install another newer and better ROM, that can be compatible with ROM Manager. I installed CyanogenMod 7.
First you have to "root" your phone, here is how I did it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19576527#post19576527
To install something using Odin use this post (about installing ClockworkMod Recovery and CyanogenMod 7), it's newbie-friendly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416190
But I recommend using the files from this post (are the latest 7 January 2012):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1149110&highlight=mad2sd
And, as in that last post says, be sure to install the "Baseband", without that I got a boot cycle:

[Q] Rom Manager Application

Hello,
I am a newbie, want to root & install custom ROM on my S2.
I have read awesome guide by creepycrawly "[GUIDE] How to Flash Custom Binaries Without Ever Incrementing the Flash Counter!".
But i have a question, can i use Rom Manager application to install CWM kernel instead of using Odin?
I am sorry if my question is too naive.
Thanks
I wouldn't use ROM Manager. It's been known to have problems on the SII.
You will be unable to install ClockworkMod Recovery through Rom Manager on the SGSII. Rom manager does not install a kernel, it tries to install CWM Recovery on the existing kernel, but it can not do so on the SGSII stock kernel. You must install a kernel with CWM Recovery in it.

+1 I would not use Rom manager with the SGS II. Its proved to present more problems than anything. I would just flash a rooted kernel with CWM in it(cough....Entropy's)
Thanks

Check out Jivy's guide on how to root. Its in the general forum, sticky, here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285894
Entropys seems to be the recognized, stable and frequently updated Kernal used in many of the ROMs. Probably the way to go.
I used ROM Manager to "backup/restore/modify backups" on MIUI-1.11.9
but on Lite'ning_v6.1 when I tell ROM Manager to "backup" it freezes the phone with the error picture
But I can do normal backup from CWM Recovery, then I just rename it with Root Explorer.
Rom Manager has problems in general..not just the GSII

Samsung Android System Recovery <3e>

Hey everyone, ive searched all over and havent been able to find a solution.
I've followed the instructions on how to root using CF-ROOT (odin) and successfully rooted and booted into cwm and installed Resurection remix 1.0.. Everything works great, except when i try to reboot and go back into CWM i get android system recovery <3e> and not cwm.
The only way to recover is to install cwm or cfroot from odin again and reinstall the rom.
Any idea what i'm doing wrong? thanks
Don't know, try to change rom and see if it happens again... I'm on v3rtr3ma and is really good.. Tried also wanamlite 9.9..

That reads as the rom you are using has no built in CWM recovery .
Logic says ask the rom builder or in his post .

Like JJEgan says, the ROM then sound like it comes with its own kernel, that DOESN'T have CWM recovery, but standard Android recovery. ROMs come with their own kernels, so every time you flash kernel first, then ROM, you are replacing the CF-root kernel, thus losing CWM recovery.
Just re flash the CF-root kernel to get it back after you flash the ROM. There is no need to flash the ROM again after you flash the kernel.
Try installing Rom Manager and make a recovery once installed (top item in rom manager)

correct me if im wrong.
you're REINSTALLING the rom, after you flash CF-ROOT? if you reinstall the rom, then cwm will be deleted.
You can use this temporary signed CWM zip.In recovery, choose apply update from storage and flash the zip and you get CWM. When you reboot, it will be gone.
This was taken from Here
You better take a look here for further information.

If he's installing CF-root, CWM and ROM Manager tend not to play nice together.
Look in the Resurection Remix OP!
After you installed Resurection Remix let it boot and flash CWM-zip from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854. That should give you 2nd recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854
NOTE: İF YOU WANT FLASH SOMETHİNG FROM CWM RECOVERY FİRST YOU MUST İNSTALL CWM.ZİP FROM STOCK RECOVERY MOD(APPLY UPDATE FROM EXTERNAL STORAGE AND CHOOSE CWM.ZİP AND İNSTALL)
AND NOW TOUCH RECOVERY MODE WİLL APPEAR THAN YOU CAN FLASH ZİP FİLES

Kinda confused me the first time as well...
But the moment you flash CWM.ZIP, recovery mode is reloaded and you can flash anything...

LOL, indeed, reading the first post of the ROM thread is a good idea too.
OP, as gee2012 notes, there is a NOTE in the Resurrection Remix thread in all caps, right under the "Rom Installation (please don`t miss any step! )" section.
On an unrelated note: gee2012, you of Chinese descent?
EDIT: Whoops! didn't see jakezpeenz's post. Sorry, not meaning to repeat what a bunch of other people already said.
I can confirm
hi
I can confirm that after installing ICS remix you need to flash the cwm tar thru Odin after you install ICS to get CWM
I had to do it yesterday

Yes you can as you are running froyo, if you aren't already rooted use SuperOneClick to root your phone. Then download ROM Manager from the market and select flash clockwork mod from the options given (If it fails just pull the battery or reboot the phone). Once you have successfully flashed clockwork mod, connect your phone to your computer and download CM 7.2 and Google Apps. Don't unzip these files! Transfer them to the root of your SD card (Don't put them in a folder). After you have transferred the files unplug your phone and reboot into clockwork mod recovery (Hold the X key on the keyboard & the Power button until the device boots to the recovery), first select "Wipe data/factory reset" (Do this twice) then select "Wipe cache partition" (Do this twice), then select "Install zip from sdcard" then "Choose zip from sdcard" and select the CM 7.2 zip. After you do that select "Install zip from sdcard" then "Choose zip from sdcard" and select the Google Apps zip. Once you have done all this select the "Reboot system now" option. The phone should now reboot and you should see the CM boot animation, sucess you have now installed Cyanogenmod! I have a Droid 1 too, so if you have any questions or need any help feel free to ask. Also check out this thread for maximizing performance on Cyanogenmod for the Droid :good:
