[Q] Urgent with my wifi - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HELP !!! here's a thing
my phone is rooted and on X10 2.1
my phone can scan different wifi but not my home wifi, some others wifi also can't be scanned, can it be solved ?

What do you mean it can scan other networks? Are you having trouble seeing networks or connecting to them? What Tom and kernel are you on? Can you connect to the network with other devices? Did this start all of a sudden or has it been going on? Did you make any recent changes to your phone?
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App

Sorry, i am new to this phone, what is Tom and Kernal ?
i am having problem with seeing networks, i tried to use my ipod to connect my home wifi and it succeed.
It has been going for nearly a month
No recent changed has been made as i remember
btw, after continuous reboot of my router, my phone can connect to it
but what's going on wif the wifi ?

Damn autocorrect... I meant "rom". Have you flashed an aftermarket rom or kernel with xrecovery?
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App

No, i didn't flashed any ROM wif xrecovery or other programs
but i used ADB theme only

What do you mean adb theme?
If restarting your router worked, and other networks work, I'd assume the issue is with your router. But if you want, you could try re-flashing with Flash Tool or doing a SEUS repair.
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App

um...
sorry it should be adw theme
but i don't think it's my router problem ...
because when others use their phone to share wifi, i also can't see their networks but others can

Flash a custom ROM and see if it works with a different ROM. I know nothing should be wrong with the stock ROM but maybe you did something accidently. You could reflash 2.1 but if you're gonna do all that and you're already rooted why not just go custom.

Because that's introducing another variable into the troubleshooting process.
@OP: Don't do that.

Why not? It doesn't add any new variables, in fact its likely the opposite, if it works with a custom ROM then you know its a ROM problem. Flashing a custom ROM would replace the same files as reflashing stock, it doesn't make a difference. If it doesn't work with another ROM and you're positive it's the phone it could be the radio and you might want to try reflashing the BB.
It doesn't sound like its a phone problem though, check your settings and try the app 'Blade Wifi fix' and make totally sure its not the router or your home wifi settings. Is there a limit set to how many users can log onto your network or a firewall that's preventing your access?

i don't think there's any limitation on numbers of users using my wifi
i will try to use that app first

is there any where i can download the app, i can't connect to wifi to download it from the android market

i downloaded the app you mentioned but somehow i can't find it on my phone

Lol you aren't supposed to find the app it works as soon as its installed. But flashing a custom rom will help you because then you can see if it connects or not.

Automatic WiFi/3G data connection switching on 2.2 ROMs

While I was running the Stock SE 2.1 .435 release (rooted of course) my X10 was capable of automatically switching between the GSM data connection to any of my configured Wifi networks (at work and at home) without any user interaction.
I have a friend with a Motorola Milestone on 2.1 with this same behaviour.
Every 2.2 ROM I have loaded seems to have a problem with regards to this feature. Basically I have to perform a manual switch but here are two of the behaviours I have noticed.
On FreeX10 the SSID basically becomes disabled. If I am at home and connected to my home network and leave the cell area my 3G network becomes established and everything is fine. Once I get back home within the cell area of my WiFi network the WiFi connection does not become active. Instead I have to go into Wireless Settings and that's when I see it is disabled. Long press the SSID and choosing Connect gets me connected.
On [Cyanogen6.1.3]gingerbread[v01] the SSID does not get disabled but rather it continuously fails. Same use case as above except when I go into Wireless Settings I see the SSID "Connecting" and then failing and entering the "Remembered" state.
My friend with the Milestone recently upgraded to 2.2 and will test this scenario to see if it is inherent to 2.2.
My question is, would it be possible to take the 2.1 Wifi component and use that in the 2.2 ROMs?
It would be great this could get fixed, same problem is with the gingerbread roms.
Like u said, it doesn't even help when switching WiFi off/on again using my WiFi widget. U have to manually press connect on your specific WiFi connection.
Pain in the ass!
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I have the same problems, tried both roms and ended up sticking with Cyanogen, simply because it was less of a pain re wifi but i still have reconnection problems when leaving my house. The answer is to manually turn off wifi then leave, then reengage wifi manually when i return. A pain but, a small one
Agreed. Toggling the power does not help.
If it is possible to take the WiFi component (for lack of a better word) from another build I strongly suggest considering .435 because it worked phenominally under various conditions.
yea my wifi doesn't seem to work well either with the FreeX10 rom
I assume you already tried Blade Wifi Fix? If not, do so.
The Blade fix was included in the CM ROM I installed. It looks like all it did was power cycle the wifi which as already stated doesn't help.

Try to delete included BladeWifiFix and reboot test again and if still not working install BladeWifiFix new from Market and test again.

FreeX10 is almost the same you can try it there too. What it does? Fix Wifi maybe, for some it fixes for some not so just try it you dont loose anything^^
i have been running free x10 for 3 months i suppose. it switches fine for me.
there where issues of WIFI NOT CONNECTING , no problems of switching though as u stated. so i installed blade wifi and everything was well.
i suggest what wolf says.

I know what it is intended to do but I was wondering how it was doing it. being a technical person I don't like the shotgun approach because the end results are very hard to interpret if you don't know what you are actually doing
but I digress I have installed it and I will be testing as soon as I get home

hi,
after reading this i though ...
me and wolf include blade wifi on our roms.
for me i don`t have any issue regarding wifi on my rom. i get out of home with wifi connected do a 1 hour trip to my work and when i get there wifi pick signal without any issue.
but......
i don`t check right away, so.
like i said me and wolf we include blade wifi and do some changes regarding build.prop to save some battery. one of the most consumer of battery is the wifi.
on SE roms search for wifi every 15 seconds. on mine i change that to 380 sec and wolf around 200 (i think) so...could this be the cause of ????
i personally don`t believe removing blade will do any difference but...maybe those who had this issues try to change build.prop to 15sec ?
well we might be onto something...after installing Blade I was able to switch but I did not time it...seems to have taken quite some time though. I'll time it next time but I'm sure since it will vary because it looks like it runs a timer and I don't know what the details are.
I wonder if Z made the same changes to build.prop as you guys have. I would be interested in testing without this change.
Also, it would be great to know what Blade actually does. I wonder if it circumvents the changes you made to the intervals in build.prop.
Also, any idea as to whether we can use the WiFi component from the .435 build in these ROMs?
Ren,
Is it possible to go in and change the value in build.prop:
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=
Without reloading the ROM?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Yes.
Through root explorer. Just make sure you check all boxes on permitions and after that reboot.

OK. I've been watching what Blade does and all it seems to do is reinitialize the wifi. Seems overkill so I found this:
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/net/wifi/WifiConfiguration.Status.html
I want to write an app that will monitor configured networks and set their status to Enabled.
The challenge for me is that I've never developed an app before but I have the SDK installed and it recognized my x10 so I'm good to go. Ill try to get as far as I can but I will need some help. Is there anyone interested in offering themselves as a resource if/when I need some help?

Froyo WPA2-Enterprise Wifi Issues

Ever since upgrading to 2.2 I have lost the ability to connect to my schools WPA2-Enterprise network. I've searched and found that this was an issue introduced in 2.2 (I could connect fine on 2.1) and has been fixed in 2.3. I've tried all the solutions I've found online and zero have worked. These include using apps from the market such as Wifi Advanced Configuring and replacing the wpa_supplicant file in /system/bin/ with the version from 2.1
The werid thing is, after completely wiping and flashing a new rom, it will connect fine the first time but not after that so im thinking it has something to do with certificate/credential storage?
The network I'm trying to connect to is WPA2-Enterprise, authenticated via PEAP and MSCHAPV2
Can anyone point me in the right direction? What system files might affect this? Can I try replacing them from a 2.3 build?
Any ideas/input would be appreciated
Ummm.....I connect the same exact way with the same exact settings at my job and I haven't experinced any issues while running 2.2. Which rom are you using?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Its happend on all of the 2.2 roms I've tried, (AOSP, MIUI, CM6, TW).
I've had the same issue. The odd thing is that some days I actually get it to link up on the first try to the same router, but other days I do all the various steps that you can find while googling for answers and never get to successfully connect.
Almost makes going back to 2.1 seem worthwhile...
Flashed a new rom today and connected to the network fine first try like usual. Cycled wifi and it wont connect again.
Anyone know where it stores wifi credentials? I'm thinking if I can clear them each time I want to connect it should work...
I'm in the same boat...although, my thread is on the second page with no replies. I am also unable to connect to enterprise wifi on campus...drives me nuts. I've spent countless hours trying to figure this out. I had no problems with enterprise wifi on 2.1...I wonder which file I could flash from 2.1 to make it work, I'm sure someone knows.

Are you saying my school restricts Android 2.2 users from using thier wifi while allowing 2.1 users to use it? I'm not sure what you mean...
Im saying maybe they needed more bandwidth so they put a block/allow list on their wifi. Nothing to do with your froyo. Or android. Could be they are ALLOWING ONLY KNOWN IP ADDRESSES now..(Since you dont know what an allow list is) Happened to me at work. And i dont have 3g at work so it sucks.
Only other explanation is that you screwed up during flashing. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. I mean.......my wifi works just fine and ive flashed every rom in the dev section...currently on ec01 and wifi wpa2/enterprise is flawlessly working.

I'm fairly certain its not either of these issues, considering after I flash a rom I can connect to my schools network fine the first time. Its the subsequent connections that are giving me issues.
Here's a link to the issue on googles open source android project.
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1386
It basically says that it was an issue not present in 2.1, introduced in 2.2 and fixed in 2.3. I'm wondering if anyone knows what system files might affect this (wifi driver, certificates, deeper kernel issues?) and if anyone can point me in the right direction so I can start trying to pull files from other builds and see if it fixes my issues. I'm a complete noob but willing to give it a shot.
Can anyone let me know if ED01 or the official froyo rom has a fix for this wifi problem..??

As I'm sure you know by now, none of the froyo updates fix the wifi problem. However, I can report flashing JT's CM7 build did fix the issue and it truly is an awesome rom if you can stand a few features missing.
As of now, there seems to be no fix for froyo builds

That is nothing short of a disappointment...until there is a fix, I'll just have to keep a close eye on my data usage.
I am having same sorts of problems on all wifi since upgrade to 2.2 froyo pushed out to me by VZ when I changed out a "bad" handset. VZ no help, referred me to Samsung; they have acknowledge problem but have no fix, or eta....

Can't find any WiFi networks when searching

Hi there!
So, I have a little problem with my second phone. The problem now is that I can't find any WiFi networks when I search for one. I have always had connection here home, and it works fine on my XS.
I don't want to restore or flash anything because the reason I need WiFi is to back up the bookmarks I got on the Dolphin Browser that is installed on the phone.
I also want to say that I don't have any SIM-card in the phone because I'm using that one in my XS, but that should not affect WiFi as far as I know.
I'm running Android 2.3.3 and baseband 2.1.71.
So what could the problem be?
Thanks in advance!
What rom have you installed, if so, do you have the right kernel and wifi modules? any details of what you have installed?
Are other pc's or mobiles at home able to perform a search for wifi networks and see the SSID of the router?
Upps.. sorry for leak of info.
I'm running stock ROM. Yeah, I have the right kernel and WiFi modules. The phone have worked well before.
Yes. This phone is the only one who can't find any WiFi networks. It sucks! Never had this issue before.
I am having the same issue. Just started the other day. My phone will not find a wifi network unless it is sitting next to the router. If I am over 5 feet away it just says searching and not in range.
Any thoughts?
Okay, just stood 1 meter from the router, still it didn't find any wifi connections!
This sucks!
When you go to wifi settings and activate it, does the tick apply to the box(enabled) or does not do anything?
It doesn't sound nice. if you are sure that you are running Sony ericsson original software (no custom roms, kernel and else) then try to do a factory reset from the menu, if it doesn't do anything then use SEUS and reinstall the software.
This will prove that this is either or not a hardware fault. It is the best way to check. If it still doesn't work after SEUS reinstall, then it is definitely a fault. If it fixes it then congrats..
If it's a custom rom from here then forget seus and flash the rom again.
Screenshots are welcome if you have..(wifi settings, system info..)
Good luck
The tick apply to the box yes.
Okay, so I connected it to my PC and ran Update Service and did a fresh reinstall of the software. Still the same problem. Can't find any WiFi connections
Well you already know the answer..
Yeah I do.. Think I'm going back to the store with it and get it fixed. Also have some reboots problem that may be related to this..
Thanks for answer.
If you only need your bookmarks just put sim from XS in X10 and turn on and backup info and replace sim in XS.
EDIT: do you have unlocked bootloader? If yes u can try relocking it.

hello mister, I have a same issue with you.
my LWW cannot find a network althought I was sitting in front of the router and it says not in range.
but sometimes it can works well, but it often cannot work
still searching for the solutions
Think its the wifi antenna thats failing.
First I couldnt find any WiFi networks. I had it off for a few weeks (got my Xperia S xD) and when I tried it, it worked well.
So its not easy to find the solution for this.. It sounds like a hardware issue

I'm running on CM 9 on my Sony Ericsson Live With Walkman. For almost a month I haven't had a problem with my Wi-Fi connectivity. But, since the last 2-3 days, I'm having connectivity issues.

Problem with 3G usage which leads to pin code requests

Hi,
before I start, I wanna say I have read many threads and used the search function but I still couldnt solve my problem.
I have the I9100G and I was testing different roms, like cm10, supernexus and jelly bam and always the latest versions.
My problem is, when I used mobile internet with my provider, my phone lost its APN settings from time to time. A reboot could bring up the APN settings back and I could use the internet again.
So I was installing APN backup and restore and I think it kinda helped me (also did the integration into the system with titanium backup). now the APN settings do not suddenly disappear but my phone goes into the pin code menu from time to time. from what I read I assume it is because of lost signals.
Then I tried with GetRil and I matched my basedband with RIL (XXLPV).
However, the problem is still there. Whenever I am not using 3G (e.g. internet via wi-fi), the phone is okay, but if i have 3G on for some time my phone asks for the pin code.
What I could do is of course to disable the pin code, but because of security issues i dont wanna do that and the problem wouldnt be really solved.
I would appreciate any help or idea what might cause my trouble.
Thanx
I had this all the time with JB roms, however when I changed the stock kernel to dorixmanx (currently using the 7.4 Mali version) they've stopped. Might wanna give it a try and see if it works for u?
