HTC Wildfire updated to Froyo officially - Wildfire Themes and Apps

Hi ,
I updated my HTC Wildfire to Froyo officially. Can anyone tell me what are the additional features that will be there now in Wildfire... because am not seeing that much change in appearance and all.. as I have experienced 2.2 in other phones..its home menu is even different....
so please help me in finding out what are the new features that I can enjoy...

Nothing really, apart from Froyo's Apps2SD, and the WiFi Hotspot feature. Froyo's most important performance enhancer, JIT compilation, is disabled on the Wildfire.

.... does it support live wallpaper..if so where can i get it...

No. Only rooted phones support it, and, since you have already upgraded to official Froyo, your phone is not rootable anymore, and you are stuck with stock. (Unless you get your phone S-OFF'ed via some mobile unlocking shop which keeps an XTC Clip hardware box)

Difference between HTC Hero and G2 Touch

hi guys,
im planing to get this phone and Im interested in next. Can someone tell, preferably person who is using or used both phones. Except difference in look(color, name...) is there any difference in software? Has T-Mobile changed something?
And second question is will I be able to update G2 Touch on v2.0(when it comes) or I would have to wait T-Mobile to release it?
There is essentially no difference. The G2 does have a "slightly" customized ROM, but the differences are mostly down to minor T-Mobile branding.
When 2.0 is released, you won't be able to install an HTC build directly onto the phone unless you've downgraded the SPL to an earlier version, but this isn't too onerous a process. Alternatively, you can wait for T-Mobile to release their own version of the ROM, which will probably be a month or so after the HTC build.
Regards,
Dave

or wait for pauls custom rom, which hopefully is out hours after the hts build
i own the g2 (from t-mobile germany), after customising it there is no difference to the hero except from the t-mobile letters on top of the display. the t-mobile rom is really only slightly customised, but somewhat older than the newest updates.

I lose warranty if I customize it, right?
So, before customizing there is basically no difference, there is still HTC Sense UI

idk about warranty, however if the phone is not completely dead you can always set it back to stock software in all belongings. imho it should not be possible to prove what you did.
sense ui is mandatory on the hero, you couldn't get rid of it if you wanted to*.
*as of this moment, work is ongoing on non-sense roms, don't see it happen too soon.

Anybody working on a X10 custom ROM with Sense?

I was able to play with an X10 and I should say that the hardware is really nice and slick. It looks and feels great, and this is not unusual for SE.
The software, however, sucks big time. Not only it is Android 1.6 based, but it is quite sluggish (it just doesn't feel like a 1GHz Snapdragon device!) and has none of the HTC Sense widgets goodness, nor anything else (and don't even get me started with this strange "timescape" thing). Huge disappointment. Android 1.6 vanilla ROM would've probably been a better choice.
Therefore, the only reason I would consider this device is if I am able to flash a custom ROM on it. And since I REALLY like Sense, I'd love to see it on-board.
Has anyone heard if there are any upcoming X10 custom ROMs?
Thanks in advance!
Man dont wanna be rude but why don you read the other threads? Custom roms are only possible when rootin will be achieved. And atm its not possible. Hopefully in a month or so..but nothing for now. And its not sluggish at all.. Mine runs 20 apps and its v fast. Download some taskkiller if you havnt already.

.......................why dont you save yourself the trouble of putting a custom rom on it and just buy a htc?
I know installing roms is not rocket science. But it amazes me that done people can even do that.
Lol @ OP's
knowledge/reading fail.
@rayarny
Did you ever see it running next to a HTC legend? The legend is way smoother on the homescreen, like the fps count seems to be double that of the x10.

I happen to have both Legend and x10 (well.. actually the Legend is my wifes.)..
Legend smooth... maybe.. a tiny bit.. but it's also a much smaller screen so imperfections like that are more easily hidden.
Certainly NOT enough of a difference to affect the user experience.
This forum is getting out of hand. It is supposed to deal with Rom development.
Is there a moderator that can move the threads to general?

Well, HTC Desire is my second option
It's just that I really like the X10 hardware - it looks and feels very nice. And the screen is a bit bigger.
I recently sold my desire to get an X10, much nicer phone, all we need is Root, and its the best about
Bloke
MOD EDIT - Moved to general forum as not related to android development

[Q] is it worth updating to Android 2.1

Before someone starts to throw things at me let me just explain my doubt.
As many of you I have been waiting for the update to 2.1 for a long time.
I have read most of the reviews that cover what changes from 1.6 to 2.1, but I see many people trying to revert back to 1.6.
I would just like to know if in your opinion it is worth updating an U20i to 2.1.
Thanks for your input.
i updated my x10 to android 2.1 for the sake of very good apps
So there are no unbearable bugs or drawbacks in Android 2.1 from 1.6?
So far we have 4 votes for 2.1, anyone care to explain what were the major gains or major drawbacks / problems after the update?
Keep the votes coming
there are no diffrences except the browser the base system and the skin

This almost sound as a funny answer. "There are no differences, only everything changes" hehe
Rofl, I like 2.1 now after getting it to work, wouldn't want to go back tbh.

rlly how much ofthe updates do u rlly use???
2.1 is useless
i want 2.2 so i can get the flash playeer
yesyes i know the stupid snapdragon
however NO MULTITOUCH in 2.1
thats an biig bug!!!!!!!
stupid SE shoud go and kill themselves
well now we know who voted against the 2.1 :=)
I should do the update tonight if I am able. Then I'll leave a comment too
My phone got slightly faster. But I updated mostly for the apps
I've just updated to 2.1 and I too note less freezes and a smoother operation. Plus I got my phone debranded and I have access to all the nice applications available on the android market.
Lets see if we can get the bootloader cracked and are able to eventually get 2.2 or even 2.3 on this wonderful device.
The only annoyance I have with 2.1 is I can't seem to get default input to stay off, something keeps reactivating it.

[Q] Looking at the X10

My HTC Aria was stolen last night, so I'm in the market for a new phone. I was pretty happy with the Aria, but I'm checking out some other options to see if I want to stick with it or not. I have to stay with AT&T so the X10 is on my list to check out..
1) Is the X10 currently rootable with the latest stock AT&T ROM?
2) What are the big issues/annoyances with the X10 (if any)?
Thanks!
the latest rom for AT&T is 1.6, so you would need to flash to a generic rom to get the latest (stock) version. by now we are officially on 2.1 but SE will release gingerbread in a couple of months.
you can also flash any of the great roms from the xda x10 devs that are based on 2.2 or 2.3 if thats how you roll.
and yes, as far as I can tell, all the official x10 roms are rootable.
as for annoyances, people say that the usb port tends to come loose but i havent had this problem. for me, the biggest problem is battery life which sucks, cant ever get more than 1-1.5 days out of it, 2 if im lucky.
the camera is awesome (even better than my camera hehe).. so yeah, definitely consider getting it. i'm pretty pleased with mine
you can go for the latest arc/neo if you have more budget
the x10 is old and the bootloader is locked (read: not unlockable)
the latest SE android phones can have their bootloaders unlocked officially through their own website.

[Q] Contemplating rooting and install CM

So I've been using Legend as my primary phone since July 2010, and it's increasingly getting on my nerves. It's sluggish, constantly running out of internal storage space, and the phone reboots itself after running apps that require GPS for some time...
I'm thinking of rooting and install CM (Gingerbread). I have two questions:
1. People who have rooted Legend and installed CM, does it improve your overall user experience with this phone?
2. There are a few rooting guides out there with varying dates. Some older ones require you to downgrade to Android 2.1 (I'm on Froyo right now), make a goldcard (which I already did), but since HTC dev has released unlock bootloader, how does it change the rooting process if at all?
I appreciate any help.
1. I've rooted my Legend for a while now (I got rid of S-On finally since last week) and I can say my phone is faster. I overclocked my phone to 806 MHZ, and it's very stable. And now I moved all my apps (inc. Dalvik cache) to my SD-card, so now I've 160 MB free on my phone, while I've got over 90 apps
2. Use the tutorial on HTCDEV site, because now you do not need a goldcard. Just follow instructions there, and all will be fine.
Wow I'm surprised you waited nearly 2 years for this.

Just do HTC dev instructions until unlock hboot topic. Then with HTC super tools to get root. Then flash cwm and then cm7.1 or 7.2.
If you go look for HTC dev topic here on legend forum, there is a guy who wrote what he have done.

Here's my 2c worth, I got my legend with eclair on it then when I heard about froyo couldn't wait for it. Once I had it I was happy games worked better every thing was cool.
My wives HTC desire HD got the gingerbread update then I was jealous, and was sad when I found out I wouldn't be getting official gingerbread too. That's about the time I found out about ogo2's gingerbread rom (the only reason I actually ended up rooting in the first place). From that time onwards I spent months on xda reading and learning stuff before I rooted.
Taking that step was huge for me & because I was on froyo with that dreaded hboot 1.01 which made rooting so much harder.
What I did was read the guide many times over, downloaded all the files required and did many dry runs of the rooting process stopping before any changes to my phone was made gaining confidence to actually do it.
Once I did it and flashed my first rom I never looked back, I've now flashed pretty much every rom on xda (except the eclair based roms).
When the hboot 1.02 was released and before blay0 pointed out you don't need to go back to stock, I unrooted my phone and when back to stock, and man that only just confirmed why rooting was the best!
If you are hboot 1.01 best method is to do the hboot 1.02 thing, if you are on hboot less than 1.00 then do the s-off method for your hboot version.
So long as your careful, take your time, read up on stuff on xda, do Google searches for stuff too and if your really stuck ask questions, I don't think you'll regreat rooting your phone...
The issue regarding cm well yeah it makes a huge difference over stock but just remember cm doesn't have sense so will take a bit of getting used too comming from stock rom.

1. People who have rooted Legend and installed CM, does it improve your overall user experience with this phone?
I was in the exact same position as you, and looked at lots of ROM options. I wanted something that just works and Cyanogenmod 7.1 is excellent. Coming from a sluggish Vodafone firmware its a total revelation. I went for the slowest 768mhz overclock too and it doesn't seem to have affected the handset at all. Never locks up and is just nice to use day to day. If my contract hadn't expired I'd certainly have no issues keeping it for a third year now.
Off the top of my head here's a few things you might want to install -
Quickpic
Touchpal Dialer
Go Weather
HTC IME Mod keyboard
I'm also only running 3 desktop home screens.

It's not that long ago I did it but I found it to be a total minefield if I'm honest. You just have to be prepared to do plenty research and be very picky regarding what firmware your currently on (i.e. Vodafone, T-mobile, etc). Stick with it as it's definitely worth it. Look on youtube for some Legend CM videos.
Thank everyone for chiming in. I have another year left in my contract so I think I'm going to root it.
it most definitely improves your phone! needs patience while rooting and installing rom, but it is worth it.
