[Q] How to turn off the screen while streaming from browser? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i was wondering why the screen doesn't turn off while i listen to mixcloud.com in the browser?. it just dims down a bit if i pause the stream the screen goes black.
the battery runs low very fast cause the screen is on all the time not to mention the risk of screen burn in

I was wondering the same thing.
When I listen to a radio program via iplayer. Screen stays on and battery dies. iphone used to shut screen off?
Help please

Can't you lock via power button or does the flash stop?

flash is built to stop once the window is out of focus, otherwise your battery would drain whilst ads were running in other tabs.

Yep as soon as you lock screen iplayer stops.
Any other ideas?

Find the audio via another method. If you are just listening to live Radio then I recommend TuneIn Radio
If you are after old shows, if you can get the podcast download that, else you might want to look for iPlayer Radio downloaders on your computer and copy them across (of course this means you can't just listen on a whim).

Can we hack Flash player to work in the background?

Hello all,
As maybe some know, Adobe's Flash player in Android has a feature. The object doesn't activate if it is not in focus (or maybe touched?). This seems to be a security or battery performance related improvement as Adobe puts it.. However, it is really annoying.. Because;
You can't listen to most of the radio stations, or playlists even, if you send them to background. I love to listen to some of my favorite music while reading the daily news.. As many other have pointed out in the following threads:
Thread ID: 854896, 672639, 543354, 489142
I am writing this question here, as this is an Android Flash player implementation issue and this behaviour is by design. There may be many ways to modify the Flash player, or modify the browser to make the Flash Player act as if it is in the foreground even if it is not..
So can anyone work on this? Or maybe we can submit some kind of CR to CyanogenMod issue list? Better yet, how can we submit this problem to Adobe's developers/designers?
Or maybe a hacker has already read this and has solved it already
Thanks a lot..
Maybe this works on other (Sense?) phones, but I know this worked on my 3.29 stock rooted Evo. In the browser you can hit menu > windows and then open a new window, and then close the new window. Now you will still be in the windows view, but are "hovering" above the window you have your Flash content in. Now you should be able to hit the home button and do other things.
I would suggest just using a real music player/radio app.....

x2... I think most, (if not all) standalone music/radio apps will run happily along in the background.

True, but most (if not all) standalone music/radio apps won't play arbitrary flash content online.
I know somebody who likes to listen to a particular TV program, and typically networks only make these available via flash. I'm sure if he works at it he can extract the audio on a computer or find it on a torrent or something, but it would be nice if this were at least an option.
Of course, compared to a normal app I imagine it would suck down a lot more power.
I've found a way to have a Flash webpage running on the background without needing to hack Flash Player on ICS. I stumbled across an unadvertised "feature" of the Dual Screen Browser app by Curry Cat v2.1.
All you have to do is launch the Dual Screen browser, do a google search for the flash web page you want, and once the audio starts playing just hit the OS Home button and the audio keeps playing in the background. It blew my mind.
The device I got this working on is a stock ASUS Transformer TF101 w/ ICS (v4.0.3)
Dual Screen Browser has a bunch of FC and seems to be heavily reliant on the stock browser some how. If you get FC when trying to launch it try the following:
Open stock Browser, press OS Home button, then relaunch Dual Screen Browser
Turn internet connection off, then relaunch Dual Screen Browser
Dual Screen Browser appears to be better optimized for flash/html5 video playback in portrait mode. I had two flash videos playing at the same time on each screen without much of a performance hit.
When in landscape mode pick the left most screen. It plays movies better without cutting off part of it.

Wow, I even forgot that I asked this question. But your solution seems very promising. Well, I'd still like to see HTML5 work in the background to (for the obvious reason that I want to play a youtube playlist while screen off ) Well if I'd have to install a separate app, I think there are other players that does this already.
Thanks anyways.. (Sorry for the late response)
I am using "nextvid" to play youtube videos on the backgroud, no need for hacking it does it by default( free app)

Media Players Force Close Issue

Hey guys, I tried searching for this particular issue but came up empty.
I have an Atrix 4.5.91 and had this issue creep up suddenly. I first noticed it when I tried to play a video file using Meridian. It would start up Meridian, but then keep it on a blank screen. After about 10 seconds the force close notification comes on.
Then I tried to play music using Winamp... It starts up the application, but would stay stuck on the first page with the Winamp logo. FC notification comes up soon after.
Then I tried it with the stock music player. It starts up and all I get is the blue background associated with the new mp. FC notification comes up around the same time as well.
I also noticed that the Camera application would force close after taking a picture. Perhaps due to the opening of the gallery app?
Any idea what's going on with it? I'm offshore right now for work and I use my phone as my music player... it's my only way to not get bored to death for 3 weeks.
P.s. My battery life has also been drastically reduced since this started happening.

Prime suddenly became unusable. Help!

turn it off and leave it off for like 10ish minutes, let it get a good solid cold start and see if that helps..
if not, reflash the .33 zip

Browser Audio in background

I listen to radio broadcasts off of websites a couple times a week. The broadcasts are not available to listen to through any apps. Up until now I have had to keep my browser open while I listen to them which kills my battery because the screen has to remain on. I want to be able to background the browser and turn the screen off while still having the audio play back through my headphones. Is there any way to do this?

I Guess this is an iOS only feature
But u can make ur screen as dim as u can , using apps like lux https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vito.lux&hl=en
I dim my screen to 20% but it still seems to kill my battery quickly. I did do this with my jailbroken ipod touch but I don't have wifi access at my new job. Is there not an app like backgrounder for android? Or will one of the other browsers (ie. firebox or dolphin) work.

Screen mirroring bugs

2 days ago, or so, my screen mirroring was working well (yeah, it lags a lot, but we're talking about a Xperia M4). Today I had to study, the presentations that I needed to read were on the device, so I decided to use the screen mirroring and put some music to study...here starts the problem. When I opened the music app, it worked well for less than 2 seconds...then the phone got....damaged? I dunno. The thing is, if I open the music app, I get stuck on the screen mirroring (Yes, nor the screen mirroring, nor the phone can be turned off, just using the little button on the SD card slot). Also this will bug the phone completely, making it act like it had around 10mb free ram (And it has 40% free ram, so, it's just the phone acting weird). CPU usage is also normal, half of the cores arround 300-900mhz, half arround 1000mhz. Help me please, what can be doing this? I thought it was an app that changes navbar color, but I uninstalled it and the problem remains. Also the music app is factory restored. Oh, and in case you're wondering, the phone is NOT rooted.
Also, if you could help me remove the album app, it'd be great (I want to replace it with the Jellybean model, since I use MX player, also, Jellybean's version is way more beautiful and clean).
Nevermind.

So, while I was writing this message and searching for solutions on the web, I left the phone, mirroring its screen and DOING NOTHING, and PHONE DISCONNECTED showed on the TV. Then I discovered that it was due to a senseless reboot on the phone... And it fixed it! Actually, screen mirroring works better than never.
