Rumor has it we will get the gingerbread update in Q3. Bad things will happen if you flash the DX gingerbread update.
a 2.3 update would be beneficial to both verizon and moto... with other droids getting the update recently/soon it would make sense to expect it at least within the next couple months. the best news is that they already have motoblur working on 2.3, so this should make the update alot easier for the DX2... we sit and wait, as always.
It's rather asinine that the DROID X2 this late in the game did not include Android 2.3.3/4 any high-end(ish) phone that comes out this late with 2.2 is just stupid, Thunderbolt, Charge etc. etc. These carriers are always B*t*hing about there networks and data but they just gotta push all that data to thousands of the said updates to the phones. makes no sense.
The X2 does not have GB because GB is having problems on the dual-core Tegra 2 chipset. I talked with a rep this evening that was pretty knowledgable on the situation and she stated that we most likely won't be seeing GB on the X2 in the foreseeable future, a few months at the least.

I am also very curious about this. I've been harassing P3Droid on Twitter. Since he has inside sources at Moto (or so I've heard) someone should ask him what he thinks...
TBH plans to develop for this as soon as they get their hands on one...
I just wish this phone were more stable to start with. Swapping between wifi and 3G is a lag fest, pulling the phone from either the car dock or multimedia dock is a crap shoot. Often times it'll get confused and just give a blank screen when swapping between apps, and it'll require a reboot before the whole thing runs smoothly again.
I'm hoping a clean GB install will fix these problems because I really want to keep the device.
Anyone else retaining their 2.2.2 virginity, until the "right one" comes along?
So, is there anyone else who is still simply going to wait for the official AT&T OTA Gingerbread release?

................No!
Yep, going to keep mine stock untill the update. (uk orange)
The locked bootloader update is the real thing. I flashed it and it's amazing. I don't know how I could stay on froyo for much longer.

Don't get me wrong...I've seen all positive from Kenneth's release and definitely am eager to update, but I just wanna wait for the official deal.

I just got out if rehab, somehow I knew when I got out this would be a whole new phone... still on 2.2.2 until I can get on a computer

Right now I am also waiting for the official release but if it's not here by the end of July then I gotta go update.zip
Yeah, um odds are good if a person is browsing these forums they're interested in modding their phone

Excellent point. In fact, thanks for the clarification!

what are you guys worried about? how do you know if you right one if you dont try it?
im pretty sure ken's 2.3.4 is same as the official update thats coming, it doesnt have my testing and debug apps that are found on beta releases. if anything the "official update" from ATT is going to have more bloat and handicaps.
I'm keeping mine at 2.2.2 until the official update comes out. I know there is a slight chance it could brick and have bugs if I update to the beta build of GB.

I got my atrix about 4 days ago, and I love it. I rooted it and installed gingerblur on the 2nd day, I liked it better than the stock ROM, but then I messed up something with the messaging app (I was transferring my texts from my iPhone to Atrix, needless to say it didnt work) so I had to do a factory reset on my atrix. I did that and then Atrix no longer showed "H+" it just showed H, and the data didnt really work for some reason, so on the second night I had to flash back to stock rom.
I am just going to wait for the official release and then upgrade, I want to enjoy my atrix without a problem lol.
Btw when the official release does come and when we upgrade do we loose everything on our current phone ?
Running 2.2.2, GingerBlur.
All the permabricks going around got me worried.
Can I still OTA running GingerBlur once the official AT&T with unlocked BL comes out or do I have to revert back to a stock AT&T rom?
NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've got a Bell Atrix right now so I need to wait until something extremely reliable comes along before I toss it on for my daily driver. We can unlock our bootloader using 2nd init but it doesn't go without a flurry of bugs.
Very much appreciate the work all the devs have done, but unless I've got an AT&T Atrix I'm going to sit tight for now. Almost traded my friend his AT&T Atrix for my Bell Atrix (I sold him the AT&T one) but the current bugs in the ROMs are still a tiny bit too much. The hacked kernels are extremely alluring though!
I'm new to flashing moto style (done HTC, samsungs before) and my atrix is still very new, so going to hold off for now. Would prefer to start from a nice clean stock gingerbread + stock unlockable bootloader (ie fastboot oem unlock) baseline.
All those bricking references in the various leaked /beta ROM threads are definitely worrying. Gotta say too the much smaller dev/hacking community is totally noticeable, information appears much more scattered and newbie unfriendly relative to HTC/samsung threads, there are few authorative 'this is the 'official' way to do XYZ' sources. So still lurking and reading
I'm waiting for the official OTA. On stock 2.2.2+root+sideloading and it works fine for me. I'm looking forward to a stable CM build for the Atrix though .
Wow. Scared much?? Its really not that bad....
Im far from the smartest guy in xda but its all pretty easy and safe if you read directions and have at least three brain cells functioning

I've still got 2.2.2, mainly because I'm waiting for CM7 or something else a bit more stable. I was almost always the first to put ken's P-roms on my atrix, but for flashing an sbf, I want to wait a bit until they're all out of "beta".
Scared? No.
Waiting for a 1.0? yes.
Right now I've been happy running the Droid X2's stock Motorola Android 2.3.4 (rooted). That has met my needs (and wants) but only in a "meh" kind of way. After seeing some of the screenshots and user reviews about some alternative Android builds out there, I decided it's time to give one a try. Awhile ago, there were only one or two different ROMs for the X2 so the choices were limited, but simple. Now, I'm seeing some awesome things like CM7 running on the X2.
I'd really like to dual boot, if possible. That way, if the other ROM is crashing too much, or killing the battery, I can switch back when I need to. Is this possible with, say, CM7? I've also heard some good things about Eclipse. Namely stability. Stability isn't the highest priority for me, as long as it works most of the time.
So, what do you think is the best alternative ROM out there for the X2 for someone who is willing to try something unstable but still usable? If it can dual boot (if that's even possible on the X2) with my currently installed stock ROM, that'd be a big plus.
EDIT: I've also been looking into MIUI, but I'm not sure if the nice design is enough to sway me.
There isn't really anything you can do as far as dual booting goes with the x2. What you could do, is create a backup using BSR and then flash between those backups. You'd still need to have a wall charger to change between the two, but it works. it's what I've been doing with MIUI because I still want HDMI mirroring.
Cm7 is very stable and it's what i use. There are only a few things that aren't functioning, but they are minor and won't cause any frustration for most. If you were satisfied with stock blur then you will love cm7. My first choice for blur based roms is eclipse. Very stable, very reliable and an overall great experience.
Dual booting would essentially be nandroiding like skel said. I've run into issues doing this with cm7 though, md5 got messed up but it works for most and has worked for me before.
Enjoy flashing your new roms, it becomes an addiction quickly.

That's probably what I'll do. Make a backup and start the adventure. Haha.
Just installed CM7. What a beast.
Its incredible isn't it. Like one of the worlds wonders but in electronic form.

cm7 is indeed a beast. took my phone a few days a wipes to get used to it but im running strong now.
My only concern with it right now is battery performance.
Go to the market and download Battery Calibration. Once downloaded charge all the way to 100% and run the app. I was on Eclipse and now run CM7 and will never look back. It's way faster and my battery life is great.
Thanks, I'll give it a go.
I'm with you; I am ready to try something new. I hope to be running CM7 by this weekend if not sooner. We have so many good choices right now compared to a few months ago. I think I will stick with 2.3.4 based ROM's for now of which CM7 is one. It seems the Eclipse is now based on 2.3.5. Since there is no official release of this yet I plan to wait on it. Enjoy the awesome cheap upgrade for your phone; I know I will.

Getting fairly good battery on this ROM too. Pleasantly surprised.

Trying to relock my Photon, and the links I have found point to megaupload :-(
Can someone point me to a stock_recovery.smg from CM5?
Thanks.
Give me spot to upload it. I got it

Thank you sir!
I actually reverted to a 2.3.5 ROM, as they are more stable. While ICS looks nice I fail to see a compelling reason to get excited about it. (I have tried leaks on 3 different phones...)
I do appreciate your response.
;-)
I did 2.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_7 (Completely Stock) and to be honest, I could not be happier!! I have not had one single issue with the phone since. I'm even using the stock launcher. Took some fiddeling but, works just like the other launcher that were freezing on me!
2.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_7 is super stable, fast awesome.
And with the ICS Launcher (by Team Syndicate) available in the market, it looks great too.
(Every ICS I have tried is wonky and in no way better than this.)

I'm not a fan of ICS, but my phone is running so good, why mess with it!
198_7?
Ok, I've searched and searched but can't seem to get a clear answer, so please be gentle with me for asking... but is 198_7 a software version that Sprint just never released?
I just got my photon about a week or two ago, ran all the updates, and it is on 198_6. I've been pretty happy with it (rooted, but still locked, w/ go launcher), but I was thinking of trying the notification toggle mod and the battery percent mod through bootstrap... and I see both are based off 198_7.
So, what are the pros and cons of 198_7? What are the differences from 198_6, and why was 198_7 never released (why doesn't my phone update to it)?
TIA.
I have noticed no differences between 198_6 and 198_7. (though I suppose there are some minor changes.)
So I suggest you stick with what you have if it is working fine.
[Though I did get tethering to work with _7 whereas I could not with _6...]

Thanks for the reply. I'm still tempted to try 198_7 to try some of the mods I mentioned, and maybe some of the bootstrap roms (I'm coming from an Evo, so I may just be experiencing flashing withdrawal -- but I am not ready to unlock since I can actually use 4G a few places now with the Photon's better reception).
Is there somewhere I can get some details on exactly what 198_7 is, and why Sprint never released it? (Or if they did, why my phone didn't update to it?)
I have no idea the details f 198_7.
However, I do know that this is the first smart I have owned which does not NEED to be messed with in terms of custom ROMs etc.
(and I have had various BlackBerrys, Hero, Palm Pre, Evo, Evo 3d, Nexus 4g, Optimus, etc...) All ot these phones needed help either due to bad radios, battery or something.
In my experience, out of the box the Photon works as it should, battery life is good, radios are good, etc.
Of course you can tweak for fun, but it's nice to know it is really not needed.
I love my atrix, I really do.... unfortunately it sits in a drawer, unloved ever since I got my grubby little mits on a Galaxy S2. I love both of these phones, and I would like to start using the Atrix again, but after using ICS on the SGS2 for so long, its hard to go back to anything else.
But I am a patient man, I can wait. I was wondering, what the time frame on an official ICS rom for this phone (I know, I know... search!), its been a while since there was talk about it, has anything changed? How are the leaked roms?
I have Nutrino (sp) on it now, and its great. Whatever ICS rom I do pick in the future, one thing is clear, it must support webtop, end of story... full stop. That is one of the reasons I am still keeping the phone, that nifty webtop...
3rd quarter is still the latest news on ICS...
