[Q] I cant see my picture in text messaging app - Optimus One, P500, V General

I don't see my image in a text message thread thought I've set one in my profile. All i see is a grey box. Help!

I too am faced with the same problem, according to what I've read it's an android bug/feature - your number is read from your sim, rather than your profile.
The effect of this is that, if your sim doesn't come with a 'my number' field, your profile is never associated with it, and hence your picture won't show.
Apparently you can put your sim in a phone capable of writing that field to the sim and then it will work. but as far as i'm aware i can't find a way to do it on the p500.

Afaik, add ur profile with ur email address of gmail, go to talk change the display image and u will see the same avatar in messaging apps. Good luck.
Sent from my LG-P500 using Tapatalk

I think you have to add your own number to the contact list with contact picture. It will work only if your sim has the number flashed inside some providers do that and some don't, check in setting > about > my number. If it shows your number than u would be able to change your avatar in messaging app else you have get that number on sim, its possible with cm7.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA Premium App

You must have your number on the SIM card. O1 can't change this number, so you must find other phone, which can and change your number (I have and old Siemens CX65 - it can change SIM numbers).
Otherwise, you can add yourself to address book... ugly but works.

Profile Picture
If I could remember correctly, I was using CM7 when I was able to change the phone number in Settings > About Phone > Status then My Phone Number.
I have flashed ROMs several times now & I'm using devoid now but the phone number remained.

The correct path on cm7 is setting > call setting > additional setting > my phone number.
Change the phone number there to your phone no. Add contact with same number in contact book with avatar. It works.

Very very nice info there man. Will try this one out ASAP.
FYI there's not much phones out there that has the ability to modify this field.
@bindaasathar
The idea is to backup your current setup, flash CM7 then modify "your number" then restore back to your previous setup(if you still want to).

Hmmmmm. I'll try it out! Thanks

adding your no in the contact list with ur snap would work on any stock rom.

Well I can tell you that it works perfectly. I'm now back to my custom 2.2 ROM, contact pic shows!

Goto Settings -> Profiles you will find all the profiles

Thank works great, thanks been bugging the **** out of me for a long time.

Cool..
So, Optimus one has the ability to edit the phone number stored on SIM, the only thing that was stopping before was the ROM...
Bad LG... No Cookie for you

Thanks works great. Alway tryed to edit it in About the Phone Settings.

I rooted my phone but the terminal emulator says access denied whenever I type in 'su'.

Ensure your phone is unlocked at the time of typing su, if not you won't get the prompt to allow super user permission - oh emulator, I misread disregard that.

[Q] Enabling SMS Delivery Reports in Atrix?

Hi everyone,
I am looking for how to switch on the SMS Delivery Report in SMS settings, but having no luck ... it seems that Moto removed that option. I know that AT&T does not support those (was in the US in Jan, made that experience), but for me personally, that would be an option I have always had enabled. I just like to know when somebody does not receive my message.
Is there any way to enable this via shell commands or similar? I looked in /data/data/ , but under com.android.mms (which shouldn't be the right folder in the first place), there is nothing. Also com.motorola.blur.messaging has no files. I don't mind editing manually, but no idea where the settings resides.
Mods, feel free to move this to Dev or Q&A section if appropriate...
.... you mean as if you were to send a message, but maybe put in the wrong phone number as the person to recieve the text? I'm not sure what you mean by it having been removed. Shortly after i got my Atrix, i sent a text to a friend of mine, but accidentally sent it to what was his home number, and got a message back saying it was an invalid number. And there's also the little green arrow when you send a text that disappears after it's been sent.
Not exactly sure what you're getting at.

err... no. Delivery Reports tell the sender whether the message has been received by the recipient (ideally). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_...ation_(GSM)#MT_short_message_service_transfer . Unfortunately, it seems like AT&T do not implement this part of the SMS protocol. You can normally view delivery reports by long-pressing on a message.
This can normally be set via messaging options in android phones, but it seems this option is not available in the Atrix. Maybe Moto has simply hidden the option, maybe it is not implemented in Moto's messaging stack. I do not know, but would like to see whether somebody here can answer this question for me.
yeah... I'm looking for that option too... and install from unknown sources... and hotspot... Think I gotta root...
did you went this option ?
find: data/data/ com.motorola.android.providers.settings/database/settings.db
use RE open the db file. open settings
you will find a option like that :
118 sms_mms_delivery_report_enable default value is 0, change it to 1.
I think that's what you want.
If it can help you ,just give me a thanks.
firstly you need to root your phone, than you should navigate to /system/etc/motorola/com.motorola.android.providers.settings and edit the settings.mkitso with vi and change this sms_mms_delivery_report_enable=0 from 0 to 1 save it and reboot the phone. after that install an sms app like GoSMS from the market and set delivery reports on there and it will work (the stock atrix sms app doesnt allow for delivery reports, at least i didnt find it where to change that), the other option is to just install gingerblur which has this and a lot of other cool options installed and the bloatware removed.

Actually it does. It's in the settings for the stock sms, clearly marked, "Delivery Reports." Just checkmark it.
Thanks guys. I just ended up installing GoSMS Pro from the market. A lot better anyways, and has its own delivery report option.
Go sms has it's own delivery report option but even though it doesn't work.
I think I'll try gingerblur...

Dialling From Contacts Too Slow

Hi
I find that dialling from s2 lacks following
1. In keypad, it sorts either first name or last name, not both. Very disappointing.
2. When we click contacts from home menu, it does not give option of default num key pad. Only default key board comes when we hit search bar.
Any option, suggestion on this. I find dialling too slow.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Well thats the way it works. Do you know one thing, say you have to call John, you just have to dial 5646. I like this feature so much.
Regards.

If you want to dial someone, open the dialer, not the contacts.
Sort by both names?? Do tell..
Why do you need the numberpad to open from contacts??
Open contacts, swipe contact, you're calling. What's "too slow" about that?
When we open dialer, and say I search a person with last name, his or her name will not pop.
When in contact, for searching, we need to pop up the keyboard. A dialer pad auto pop would have made it fast.
I know it cannot work like qwerty, but in my earlier dial pad of htc, sorting of both names was there.
My earlier e72 too lacked this, but, in a firmware update it was fixed.
Else I have to remember and change many first name.
My query make sence. When we dial, it should be quick to reach to no.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
So you want to be able to search both names, not sort them.
It doesn't do containing text searches - it only searches for names that begin with what you type. Just bare that in mind and you can't go wrong. It is fast and easy - it's just different from what you've used before so you have to learn how to use it correctly.
I'm gonna borrow this thread a bit actually. I'm using dialer one since it has all the options I need, but right now I need to get a hold of the stock dialer for entering a USSD code (for disabling fast dormancy).
I've tried entering it in dialer one, but it just said "connection error or invalid MMI-code". I reckon this is since I'm trying to enter it from a third party app. So, trying to find the stock samsung dialer I go. I've checked both phone app and contacts app but cannot for the poop in me find the dialer pad. (You know the 0-9 + * and # keyboard). All I find are call logs, contacts and groups. But nothing about a dialer. I know I saw it somewhere when I first got this phone, but now I can't find it.
Any help?

Question about Contacts?

I have about roughly 30 contacts in my phone (mobile numbers) and whenever i go to send a text, (press the messages app, then the plus sign) i normally type my contacts via keyboard and id get suggestions as a dropdownon my old phone (Galaxy S 4G). however I cant on this. Id have to press the "+" sign in order to access my contacts. is there a way that i can just type in my contacts in the "To:" area in messaging? I dont think this is related to the software setup, i just think its how the phone was made or something like that.
I use handscent and it does that

Your problem reminds me of another one that just recently showed up.
I used to be able to just type "mom' and get my mom's number to show for messaging even though I have her saved as *mom.
Now I have to type the *and then mom to get her to show up.
I didn't have to do this before and I think it has something to do with my Tmobile Contacts Backup syncing.
Before it synced I could just type m-o-m.
Anyway. Sorry I was of no help I was just trying to complain too. Lol.

USSD hack list of immune and unsafe ROMs

Let's make a list of ROMs that can be factory reseted with the USSD hack.
Why do this?
This bug has been here for ever on android, but recently media has discovered it, so probably it is going to take a short time until we are compromised
How to test? (Thanks onepinksheep)
The real bug/vulnerability is that someone could trigger your phone to reset by embedding a USSD code into a message or webpage. To test if you're vulnerable, click on the following link:
http://www.isk.kth.se/~rbbo/testussd.html
If the dialer pops up and immediately shows you the IMEI number, then you're affected. If instead the dialer shows you the code that was typed (*#06#) instead of executing it, then you're safe.

That's not the correct way to search for vulnerability. Like someone above said, the code that shows IMEI has been standard for a long time. Practically every phone will show the IMEI if you type it into the dialer like that. It's not a bug.

From what i have heard, that bug was specific to Samsung's TouchWiz...

Similar to having two browsers. When you select a link, you will be prompted to choose which browser to use.
In this case, when the malicious url is selected, the app (which acts as a secondary dialer) will be one of the options along with the phone app when you are prompted.
Having a secondary dialer is no guarantee of safety. I have a secondary dialer installed on GS 2.2 (a CM7.2-based rom) and it still automatically executes the USSD code. The TelStop app is the only thing stopping the code from automatically executing for me. Try clicking the link I provided earlier -- if it executes, you're vulnerable.
Edit: Just to clarify, a secondary dialer isn't a guarantee of safety unless that dialer doesn't automatically execute USSD codes.

Calm down mate.. what feature do you want them to implement.. as Neko and Hephappy told this earlier.. there is no USSD code to reset LG phones. This happens only with Samsung and few Htc phones.
There are only few codes to check IMEI no. and divert calls in LG.. so this is not a major issue to panic.
If a patch is required to even prevent these.. I think it will be implemented soon.
For time being you can use Telstop!!

Titanium Backup has a feature called App Profiles which basically allows you to have "two (or more) instances" of an app installed on your device. So you would create a new profile for WhatsApp and sign in with your 2nd number. Then if you want to go back to the 1st number, just switch back to the first profile.

Is it something like SwitchMe? Like you havee two completely different profiles or just the profiles for app itself?
Ill give it a try, thanks
Back at my iphone days, ios used to have a script called "appdub" which allowed many instances of any app. That was pretty neat.
I had 2 whatsapps for example. I wass also dubbing games for my brothers use, so we both used to own game profiles for ourselves.
An app installs itself to data/app/..... any version of the same app does exactly name itself over existing one. I suppose if I can merely change installation name even by a letter, I shall have two set ups (well that also needs a change in data folder name, but if one of aforementioned is possible, the later shall also be)

here is the chronology:
A01 = my register number for whatsapp since 2011 this number is on my old phone that's have a better battery backup (just incase)
when on wifi network i usually airplane mode my n7100, but it's also work with data network mode
just enter A01 to the whatsapp when u do the first setup with it.
then whatsapp will ask for verification code that u get from sms. wait for the sms (not more then 1 minute for me), when u receive the verification code, simply enter the code to the box. voila.. u can use whatsapp with different number on a phone that attached a different number too.
if ur register number is on a smartphone with a active whatsapp, then it will be log out automatically at the time u receive or send a message.
i have do this many times, because have flashing many times.
my whatsapp number journey: nokia 5800 <--> xperia sola <--> n7100 <---- while the register number still attached in my SE w880i
i also done it with line, wechat and chat on(no use anymore) all of them use the same number as in SE w880i

sorry my English is not too good, i wish u get what i meant by
