Recovery doesn't show gapps zip - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted to CM7 from TNT Lite. I've been trying to install the gapps but when I'm in recovery it doesn't show the file. I've used root explorer to copy the file to what I think is the root of the machine ( / ). But when I reboot the machine the file is no longer there. Am I copying it to the wrong place?

Figured it out. Didn't know that /emmc was the root of the machine for CM7.

Nooby question.

I successfully flashed (cm6) for the first time and got everything working correctly but I can't seem to find the Android Market. Now from what I read I need to install the gapps file. I found it downloaded it straight on the phone. Am at the clockworkmod recovery, but.....how do I install it?
install zip from sd card?
Wont that mess up the ROM
sorry im fairly new to all this.
From Clockwork choose - install zip from sdcard, then - choose zip from sdcard, then browse to where you saved the gapps file and select it. It won't mess up your ROM.

Ok I did it but there was a problem.
it says
--Installing: SD CARD:download/gapps-mdpi-20101020-signed.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installing Google Apps...
Installation Complete!
E:Error in /sdcard/download/gapps-mdpi-20101020-signed.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted.
and then it froze at that.. /:
EDIT:::::
Disregard, I rebooted and redid the process and it worked out, thanks for the help!

Yes you install the gapps.zip file from Clockworkmod recovery by selecting install zip from sd card. You need to install it from ClockworkMod because all of these Google Apps will be installed in the /apps directory. No this won't mess up the ROM because the structure of the zip file determines what gets written to the various partitions on the phone. The gapps.zip file contains files that will be written to the /apps directory. A ROM zip file will typically have *.img files in it like boot.img as well as files for the /apps directory.
This was a bug in rom manager with gapps. You followed the procedure correctly fyi.

Alright great. Yeah like I said after that weird error message all I did was restart the phone go back into clockwork and install the zip again and there was no error this time around so now I have all the Google Apps. Thanks to everyone for the help.

[Q] clockworkmod recovery help

After flashing clockworkmod recovery via rom explorer my phone will not boot into clockworkmod recovery- only the stock android recovery mode. I did notice that the clockworkmod "recovery-update.zip" file contains files that *look* like they want to be in the root directory (ie /sbin/*), but some of these files do not exist in my root directory. I'm guessing maybe that rom manager did not successfully extract the contents of this zip file? Should I manually copy the contents of this zip file over to my root directory?
When you boot into recovery from ROM Manager..you may need to hit "reinstall packages" a couple of times
yup
Thanks, that did it.

[Q] AHH!! failed

I got clockworkmod working fine, but I am unable to loan ROMs. Whenever I downloand a ROM it opens in muiltiple files and it also happens with TNT, Thi is where Im stuck
Step 3.
Copy whatever ROM you wish to install (it should be a .zip file) to the ROMs folder on your tablet. (Leave it zipped, Clockwork will install it from the .zip file as is). trying to get VEGan 5.1 final
Note: If the ROM you downloaded has multiple files, look for the one named “update.zip” and rename it to whatever you want (something to help you differentiate it from other ROMs), then copy that to the tablet. If an “update.zip” doesn’t exist, and you’re lost…read through that ROM’s thread and see if anybody else asked about it…if not then you probably should (on that ROM’s thread…each one is different).
I cant fiqure how to get the update.zip. When I do open the files i get 3 files
META_INF,boot, and system. I tried to copy and paste all three files in the ROMs, but it never show the update.zip
You don't need an update.zip with clockworkmod recovery... you just need the rom that is zipped and can be named anything.
Stop unzipping the rom you are downloading and just copy it to your device. Install that with clockworkmod recovery.

you've answered your own question, the rar or zip file you downloaded might be in diff names, but always leave it in zip format. if in rar, unrar and the zip file should be in it.
in clockwork recovery, you can update by update.zip or choose your own zip

That is my problem, if automaticly unzips when it downloads. I am not sure if its my windows setting becaue I am unable to download TNT lite because I keep getting " windows can no opem" message. Is there a way i can prevent it from unzipping? Thanks BTW
maybe use a diff browser to download or right click on link and "save as"
You might be hitting open instead of save ...
down load it direct to your Gtab
Download the file directly to your tab. Use ES file explorer to move it to your SD card if necessary. Reboot in to clock work - choose file from SD card-select it and install.

ClockWorkMod Install

I bought my tablet Sunday, and have been trying to install Clockworkmod for 3 days now. I follow the steps listed here and from videos in YouTube. I install recovery folder and update.zip to root, when looking at the recovery folder in windows explorer of the root folder on the tablet, there is a comand in the folder. But, when looking at the recovery folder with ES file explorer(?) there is nothing in the folder. I cannot get into clockworkmod when booting into recovery.
What am I doing wrong??
I have successfully rooted a HTC Aria (thanks to these forums) and my SE Experia X10a. But for god's sake, cannot figure out how to install ClockWorkMod on this tablet....
Not sure if this is in the right section but i used this to load clockwork. You should have two files on the root of your card, one recovery folder with a a command file in it and the update.zip to install when you boot into recovery and it can load clockwork. Hope it helps

[Q] Stock recovery won't mount sdcard

I've been trying to root my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi but keep running into the same error.
I push'd the root zip file package into /sdcard via ADB. I can see this file when I browse the directory with a file manager.
The problem is I can't install the zip via the stock recovery because it won't mount sdcard. I get the following error when I select "install zip": unknown volume for path [/sdcard]
Anyone have any ideas? I'm on a Mac with no Windows machine around, so it seems my options are pretty limited.
Does anyone know of a way to manually flash clockworkmod without root? It doesn't look like there's any other way to install the root zip in the stock recovery. Am I just screwed?
