odin - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi...just a quick question, when it come to put the insecure tar file with odin 1.85, on "pda" button...does i have to extract the file before or simply put the winzip file inside??
thanks for your anwser...

U flash the tar file not the zip file. If its a zip, extract the tar and then flash. Have a look at the guide in the dev forum, its got pretty pictures

[Q] EC01 Radio

I'd like to say I know what I'm doing but now im second guessing myself. When I unzip the EC01 radio file to use in odin, it unzips as modem.bin. Is that correct? I thought all files had to unzip to .tar.md5 in order to flash via odin. Any help or clarification would be appreciated.
If its odin its going to be a .tar file or MD5 file.
You don't extract the files. Just push the file in odin.

+1. Just load it in Odin, do not unzip. The way it comes, it is ready for Odin.
You only unzip if the file has .zip at the end... i noticed myself that the icon for the file is the same sometimes (stack of books) whether its .tar or .zip

[Q] Extracts zImage instead of .tar

I'm new to rooting,
Android Version= 2.3.3
Baseband Version= I9100NEKF2
Kernel version= 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF4-CL280512
Build Number= GINGERBREAD.XWKF4
Firstly am i looking for KF2 or KF4?
I downloaded the zip file for KF2 from chainfire afew posts down where he writes "yet more downloads" but i get a zImage file being extracted instead of the .tar file i expected.
what am I doing wrong? where is the right root kernel for me? I want to use Chainfire's as he provides everything in one.
Thanks.
You need to know your PDA version, not baseband. *#1234# in keypad and see it. Then download the same XXX.zip from CF thread. If you download that .zip file then you will get .tar after extraction, then to get the zImage you have to extract that .tar file again.
Regards.

Thnks, my PDA is XWKF4 so I just downloaded CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KF4-v4.0-CWM4. The same thing happens when I extract though. the zImage is for when you already have root to flash from SDcard isnt it? I havent got root.

That's the right file you downloaded. I just checked for you again, and I do get .tar file if I extract that downloaded zip with 7Zip/WinRar. Don't know why aren't you getting it!!!

[Q] Anyone know the correct format of update.zip for the 10.1 tab?

I have downloaded the update from the link below, and am confused.
it is a zip, with a 7zip in it, with a TAR in it. shouldn't the update just be the update.zip with the .img and .bin in the zip? Or is it really 3 layers of packages?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444714&highlight=el01
here is the link to the update.zip http://goo.gl/6XtFD
Thanks
Rob
It should be named "update.zip" so you can flash it properly.
Use 7zip to rename it to update.zip
If you do decide to rename it from windows, most of the time it will have .zip at the end already, but won't show it. So if you add .zip manually, it will turn out update.zip.zip

Flashing zip Rom with Odin.

Hello. Is it possible to flash a zip Rom using Odin? I need to flash a zip.
Sent from my HTC Explorer A310e using XDA
yes, just take whats inside the zip and make it into a tar.md5 file and that way you can flash it through odin.
PD: it's better to make it .tar.md5 in a linux machine, don't know why doesn't seem to work on windows.
cheers

you can't blindly do a .tar file of extracted files coz Odin wouldn't recognize it like Meta inf is a script for cwm not Odin the rom is packed in such a way that cwm installs it not Odin
Could I use fastboot? I am not having a nice day, my phone is not reading the zip file because it thinks it is corrupted.

just extract the zip file ,click with right mice button and choos extract, you get a SS_DL.dll document and a tar.MD5 package.
I got this file
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2357471
that references odin in the subject of the thread. I tried flashing it via cwm, but kept getting a black screen on boot after the s4 screen.
so I wanted to try odin. but it's a zip. Is there a process to convert to tar.gz? Do I just extract, then recompress to a tar.gz?

Ahh, that's because in the \system\etc\terminfo\e\ directory there are two files with the respective names: Eterm and eterm. Linux file names are case-sensitive, Windows file names aren't,so Windows will overwrite one. If you then create a gz file, one of the files is missing.

I have tried this already....
but Odin Pops up a window saying: ".md5 binary is invalid"
tar/tar.gz from zip file
have seen this question a lot.
to create the tar file, you normally have to be in a Unix environment and an app like File-Roller can do the job of compressinf the files you extracted from the original zip file.
Allright, the solution is simple. You don't even need a Linux machine!
First, check your ZIP file. Does it contain a folder only? And are there some files in that folder? Then you have to make a ZIP file, which only contains those files, otherwise Odin cannot flash it. If there are just some files (and folders?) in your ZIP file, you can just leave it as it is.
Then, you have to download this little tool (direct link) and the thread here . Extract it somewhere you like to have it.
Place your ZIP file in the main directory (the folder where Runme.bat is located) and rename it to yourfile.img, then run Runme.bat (as Admin, probably?)
Now you have a TAR file!
Have a nice day,
VengaXDA
