Just wanted to share a mod I did on my case. Keep in mind that while it's not so professional looking I don't think it's all that bad either.
My motivation for doing such a mod was to allow the case to utilize a geater range of angles instead of being limited to the attached tether.
I couldn't get all the images to resize properly so I had to attach them as thumbnails to save some web page loading time:
First I cut off the binding tether:
Then I bought me some of those clear furniture protection bumpers,Sharpied them black & attached to the case as shown:
Another view:
Here you can see the allowance for multiple angles:
It's not as clean or minimal as I'd like it to be, but I'm sure someone here can up me one & help this idea to progress
Good job!
That is the gteatest thing.
Soon I will post some pics of the costom cases I made soon.
Thanks. I'm still trying to think of other ways to streamline it. Those rubber pads though functional are not aesthetically pleasing.

So at work I have a laser etching machine that is all computer controlled and when I'm bored I mess around with it trying to figure out what types of things I haven't etched and what kind of cool art I can etch on to stuff. Lately I've been testing the Android Developer's battery door design, and attached is what I've come up with.
For higher res pics goto http://picasaweb.google.com/juphro/batterydoor and make sure to click the "zoom in" magnifying glass.
I'm also in the process of testing the other battery door colors.
Member, baggus, actually asked me if I could try the design on his so that's why his name is on the bottom. It turned out very nice! I wanted to also see something in the Android font so that's what I came up with in the second pic in the next post. NOTE: the Android font is *not* able to be copied commercially, I have done so for my own personal use.
More information about the Android robot remixing can be found at http://www.android.com/branding.html and a supposed vector of the Android robot can be found at http://www.android.com/media/android_vector.jpg
Did you know the Android robot can be modified and reproduced freely?
If you are interested in designing your own art for a battery door or interested in how its done, just pm me
How the process works:
-Design your custom image (either png w/transparent background or vector graphic works best)
-Image must be black and white. Laser turns on for black, turns off for white.
-Make sure your image looks good on the battery door w/o resizing. Resizing causes distortion if it is not a vector. PM for the template if you're interested in actually doing this.
-Import the image into the etching program on the template which has been premeasured.
-Instead of printing to a inkjet, the image prints to an Epilog Laser Engraver
The template is too large of a file size for me to upload, so again, just pm me.
A laser shoots down on the battery door literally vaporizing a thin layer of material. How the laser cuts is based on speed an power settings determined by the operator. Each material (rubber, wood, aluminum, plastic, etc) has its own settings based on the speed an power of the laser. I have the settings for almost any material, have tested the speed and power for the G1 finally and strangely enough, the settings are different for the white G1 battery door (J Treat is donating his).
Normally, its $45 for regular customers but since I'm in charge of the machine (and personally own a G1) I would much rather charge $20. Free UPS return shipping if you live in the states. Add $3.50 for USPS international shipping. PM me for details.
Design Ideas
More pics- battery door from white G1. No custom designs on this color, sorry. Banding starts to occur in areas that have large spaces (banding example pics can be found on page 5. Its also not as smooth. Same thing happens when you print photos on a non photo printer, on non photo paper. I am also unable to etch on the curved parts of this color. It just comes out nasty/burnt lookin.
Again- designs are limited for the white G1.
Some people have asked about covering the "With Google." Without actually modifying Android Guy this is how big he would have to be to cover the words- his body is exactly as big as the words. It takes up almost the whole back.
Again, pls goto my Picasa site (above) to view more pics in original size. Other things I've etched -> http://picasaweb.google.com/team1933/lasers
Thats kinda cool. Its amazing what you can do with the right equipment.
if you do the battery door that comes on a white g1, im only a paypal click away from ordering one (seriously)
good job man, they look nice
Wow! really nice.....
yeah, let me know how i can get one made with my name please.
send me a message plz! those look F'n COOL!
Me to fellow Chicago friend!
I hate you for showing me a really cool mod for my phone that i can't do myself >:|
O well... next best thing......BUTTERKNIFE
(seriously though that looks amzing. i wish i had a laser etcher laying around)
WOW!
Thanks guys!! I'm waiting for a white g1 battery door to arrive (its like a tan color). The black one uses different settings so I have to tweak it so that it comes out right every time. When I get it just right I'll post more pics in the first thread and get you guys some more info about it.
@G1-evolve, wootroot, and regulatorg1: you got pm.
i'd probably jump on something like this too if i could get my name on it, it looks sweet
You know what would be really awesome.. is to fill in those desings with paint to give them some color. I just may have to order one to see if I can do it.
I am liking how they are looking. Most def if you get some going for the brown backing I am all aboard for this mod

I have seen color laser etchings that use a so called "color bonding" process but I have yet to see it done.
If you can etch a picture of Taylor Swift into it, ill pay.
looking sweet
i like the android guy, it would by cool if you could through an on his chest and give him a cape! LOL!
only thing that would suck on my phone is that i have the silver/tan or whatever backing on mine and im sure it would be a crazy dirt and grime magnet where its etched out.
you figure out a pricing amount and method? should i pm you for this? does it really matter if you post up a price on this thread?
also i saw on the previous post where you got started up that it wasn't lined up correctly on the silver/tan back, you got that figured out right?
I might have to get one done from you and fill in the etched part with some clear coat or something maybe even a bronze finish to go with the phone
you should buy a heap of battery doors off the net and then do custom desighns for people and sell them with like 20% profit or sumthing.
also would it be possible for you to upload template for the sketch?

I remeasured my template, and on every battery door that gets done the "with google" gets measured again after putting the battery door in the machine. Spending the extra 5mins to double check is worth not wasting a battery door. Will edit first post w/price.
@MiNdAr: the template is too large of a file size to attach but I'd be more than happy to email it.
im still working on my design, ill be shipping you my battery door probably monday or tuesday to have for when i get the design finished, glad you decided to share this service with the community man
its 2:45pm and the mail man just came and left me a brown little package outside my door!
Just wanna let everyone know that I just got my custom battery door and its looking FREAKEN NICE!
has the dev. theme on the back with my xda id on the bottom..
and it took 3days to get here after speaking with justin.
great work and i'll prob be ordering another one with different styles later on.
I was introduced to this product a couple weeks ago, and at the time no Galaxy S templates were there. Now they are.
Product looks cool, full body protection, no bulky phone case required. You can even upload your own images to create a custom skin.
http://gelaskins.com/store/skins/phones/Galaxy_S_Vibrant_US
You even get a wallpaper image so the front has one continuous image across the whole face.
Now, my only problem is finding a picture to use
EDIT: Doh! Wrong forum, can a mod move this to accessories ?
Wow, very nice indeed. Thanks for sharing
YAY got me some new free wallpapers some of those are tight i wish they just sold the front though
Found this the other day in my parousing for accesories for the tab but noticed it hadn't been posted here.... decent selection, close to 300 designs.... Stupid cheap... about time i've been looking for a while for more than just the carbon fiber ones.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ViewSonic-G-Tab...tem2a11553fb8&clk_rvr_id=245990579742&afsrc=1
I ordered one of these and in discussion if they had any alternative's that had more of an astronomy type back ground the person i was in email contact with indicated they could make these as customs with a pic that you provided. If that interests any one contact them and see what they might could do for you.
Holy macaroni.
http://www.ridicgraphics.com/2011/designs/viewsonicgtablet/
The first thing I noticed is that 99% of these "skins" are in portrait mode. I use my gTab in mostly landscape mode.
The second thing I noticed is that there is no link to the wallpapers for these "G-Tablet Skins" for you to download and use to blend with the skin on the bezel of the gTab after you purchase and apply one of these. I saw there are wallpaper links for other devices but couldn't find one for the gTab.
So this may be exciting for some folks but I didn't find it useful. What I would find interesting would be skins that could look good in either portrait or landscape mode (like the carbon fiber skin I already have).
Also, since I have my gTab in a CLIP case about 85% of the time I seldom think about the skins anymore.
If you want the skin in landscape just ask them. I'm sure they'll accomodate they offered me the ability to make a cutom from a pic that i sent them... i wanted an astronomy theme.. but decided on #246 ...
the back ground.. you download the one for the NOOK color list under "ebooks"... it's an android tablet after all... (you'll have to do some creative cropping to get it to fit right)
I can't find a way to lock the wallpaper in landscape, is that possible? In other words, I want to be able to use my tablet in portraite mode but have the wallpaper still be in landscape mode so it still matches the skin.
I havn't figured out a way... may be there is an app that allows you to have multiple wallpapers... one for landscape and one for portrait...I remember seeing something along those lines somewhere... it may be a feature that is specific to certian Launchers also.. did a quick search and there was an app but it wasn't rated very well...

yeah i saw that somewhere too i thinks its something like multipicturelive or something.......
HOLY COW!!!!!
If the selection from the Ebay dealer listed above wasn't quiet what you're looking for.. a shlew of skins turned up in a search on Amazon this AM... check it out... a bit more pricey.. $17.95 ,still not bad compared to the $30 selection we used to have.... but a TON more designs......
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...VIEWSONIC+GTABLET+SKIN&ie=UTF8&qid=1310642213
Did anyone get theirs made? How did it come out? Does it cover the sides like the carbon fibers do? I only ask because I just bought a P3 case on eBay and everything's going to be covered (even the left speaker ) except the sides where the power button is and the other side. Thanks if anyone can help
has anyone gotten these yet and tried them out? i really want to know about the quality and stuff cuase i was interested
I got #246 the grill looking one from the ebay store.. and no it doesn't cover the sides.. there is about a 1/16 inch (1.5mm) around the perimiter on both the front and back... wich is desirable on the back, keeps it from picking up and collecting dust and swarf... the front is ok.. i would look better benig all the way out to the edge.. but the guys at ridic graphics (ebay store) said that they were having issues with people stretching them while they were putting them on that's why they cut the perimiter in a bit.. graphics look pretty good.. not grainny at all... applied easy enough, though a second set of hands made it easier, someone holding the skin up while you locate it is ideal...... over all i'm satisfied...
thinking of seriously getting one from the amazon store because of the astronomy backround selections they have.. if i do i'll comment on them as well...
About time someone started making these. Anyone have a picture of the fit quality once its installed?
I posted some pics in my original thread on Android tablets forum...
they show the bo-bo'd bezel cut line but Ridic graphics sent me a replacement that makes the gap around the top skin more uniform..

Anyone have any ideas on a good tripod solution? I have plenty of good SLR tripods, including a nice Gorillapod SLR which would probably work well as a simple steadicam. It would be great if I could adapt the SGS2 to a 1/4" tripod mount.
Some of the solutions I've seen out there so far that don't seem perfect:
Gorillamobile (suction cups... Just sounds like I'm asking for a repair bill)
Quik Pod Mobile. Say's it works for an EVO so it should be large enough. Not sure about the thickness and if it'd stay in.
Kestrel Tripod Clamp off Amazon: I ended up buying this on a whim as it looks like it extends a good bit. Search Google for some better imaging. Hopefully it's wide enough. I'll update this post when I get it Thursday.
Everything else tops out a 4" diagonal screens. Any one have any ideas?
Also sorry for not linking this post up. I've been lurking on this forum since '07 but don't post as I've found answers to my questions with some judicious searching. Once I hit 8 posts I'll do a better job of linking up posts.
I'll have to keep an eye on this thread... now that I own a phone w/ decent video capabilities, I might actually record some video, and a 1/4" mount adapter would certainly come in handy. Thanks for raising the issue!
Just thought I'd update this thread on the Kestrel Clamp. It's about a cm too small in width. I might be able to increase it's width by changing the screw. I'll post pictures once I get over the 8 post limit.
Here's links to the Kestrel Clamp and the SGS2.

Should work perfectly if I can replace the screw with a larger one.
it's not ideal, but i bought the Galaxy S dock for that. i'm just going to put the dock on its side and prop the bottom up with something so the lens is level.
I'd like to make my own skin for the back cover of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Does anyone happen to have a template of the back cover that I can use to make a skin or could point me in the right direction? Thanks.
Scans of an extra skin I have sitting here. The size is almost perfect; I'd alter it by taking off the corners (they frayed and I ended up cutting some of them off); and the top piece (where the camera is) could be extended on the left side by a half mm or so. Hope it helps!
I appreciate the response. Is there any way to make the scans darker? They're barely visible. Thanks.

Unfortunately I don't have access to any photo editing software. I assumed you had something (since you're planning to make a skin!). I would suggest applying an effect like "solarize" or "find edges." Good luck! Post photos and maybe instructions if you're successful!
I wasn't planning on doing anything complex, just hoping to trace off a template and cut out with an exacto knife.
If anyone else out there has a template, please post it. Thanks.
