I have been trying all day to connect my Vibrant to my pc. I have downloaded the Samsung drivers but still no good. I know i need the nexus s drivers, I think i have found them and i installed them.
I am running CM7 I want to go back to stock so i can send to t-mobile. I got all the files I need to Odin flash back to stock. I just cant get into download mode because I cant connect to my PC. Can anyone point my to the right nexus s drivers or something. I have searched google many times and searched these and the nexus s forums. The ones i installed I found at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19AEbiWYULE
Thanks in advanced.
Sincerely,
The real Mr.Bauer
The Nexus S driver that ur supposed to install for CM7 can only be downloaded from the android SDK. u downloaded the actual nexus s drivers bundle, which have nothing to do with our vibrant, whether running CM7 or not.
The nexus s drivers (installed thru the SDK) allow our phone to be recognized by adb because it upgrades the drivers to be compatible with gingerbread
Assuming u have the SDK intalled, just open up the SDKmanager and update the USB driver.

I tried that i did this
http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html
I got revision 4 downloaded but i cant install it when i plug my " Android powered phone" in it does not see it in device manager.
I am using my brothers lg g2x cord to do all this i read somewhere that some people could not get it to work with other cords like a "4g cord".
Hmm I think we just found the problem lol. I've noticed a few people mention that other USB chords wont work for the vibrant. I never really had any trouble with any blackberry chords, but I've had two seperate LG chords that refuse to cooperate with the vibrant. One of them wouldn't even charge in my car.
I'd suggest to try using ur stock cable to connect it to the pc. That might just do the trick.

fix for USB connection problem for Vibrant with CM7
Thank you maoten,
The link you posted solved my problem.
I had the same problem after installing CM7; couldn't connect using ADB.
What I did was:
1. Downloaded the zip from the link you gave and unzipped into a local folder on my disk
2. Connected my Vibrant to the computer.
3. Right Clicked the Vibrant with the question mark in device manger > update drivers > selected the folder with the downloaded drivers.
4. Next... Next etc.
5. reconnected the Vibrant and now it is recognized as Android Phone / Android Composite ADB Interface.
6. (I also killed the ADB server by "adb kill-server" but I am not sure it's a must).

Hello all,
My co-worker attempted to flash a rom onto his Vibrant today and the problem he is having is that it boots the Samsung and Vibrant logos and the lcd has crazy lines and also makes squeaky sounds. I read up on Odin3 v1.00/TAR/PIT files and here is the problem that I am encountering.
I installed the drivers (32 bit on the desktop XP)
Odin it running with TAR and PIT files selected and ready to go.
I first plugged the USB into the desktop and phone while the battery is removed, and then hold the volume buttons. Once the battery is inserted I instantly get the "Downloading" mode with the digging Android.
Now XP first was installing the drivers as it should, then it has the phone as a unknown device. So Odin can't recognize the COM to flash the phone.
What are the options in this scenario?
Thank you.
Make sure to run odin as an admin (right click>run as admin) if you're using xp. It wouldn't work for me unless I did that.

I ran as admin. Odin isn't the problem the problem is the phone/windows not recognized the usb even though drivers are installed
Try the program in the development section.
How is another program going to solve windows not recognizing the damn phone?

yes this and get Odin 1.7 or higher 1.0 and 1.3 have compatibility problems
Follow the info in the Noob post in the Gen Section by S15274N
Or you can do a search on how to do on youtube there are some very good Videos that will help you.......
Good Luck
you need to download the All In One Toolbox (AIO toolbox) in the Development section and install the drivers that come in that program..its actually a button on the program UI that says "install drivers" the drivers found by windows automatically aren't the ones needed by Odin. That program actually walks you through Odin.
::thanks?::
After installing AIO same issues, prior to download mode it recognizes the phone and then as soon as I reboot into downloading mod it can't recognize the USB.
Any other ideas?

What ROM is your co-worker coming from? If it was CM7 or one of the 2.3.3 Roms, then you will need the Nexus S drivers installed on the pc for Odin to recognize the phone in DL mode.

Yep that'll do it. Grab the Nexus S drivers from their forums, and you should be able to flash odin.

Sorry for being such a noob, this samsung isn't as easy as my cm7 mt3gs
No, not nexus one, the nexus s, different model. There's a nexus s forum here at xda. The drivers are in their dev section. I'd link you to it, but I'm on my phone, and its a p.i.t.a. from the phone.

Whenever you have the chance can you link me the drivers? I've been looking high and low and most drivers I found need the phone to be in fastboot which is nice and all but can't install a driver on a unknown device.
Let me correct my previous statement, its been a little while since I flashed a 2.3 rom, but I am fairly certain the driver files you need are part of the android 2.3 sdk. If you don't have it, you'll have to dl it, unless someone can post them for you. I won't be at a pc until tomorrow at the earliest.

I'm trying to use my 64-bit windows laptop to install the recently leaked ICS update on my SGH i717. Which as of now is only available as a .exe file. The problem is (confirmed by samsung tech support) that the i717 is incompatible with 64-bit windows, and isn't even recognized by my computer. Is there any way to remedy this? I do not have access to any 32-bit machines, and I really want this update!! Thankyou.
I installed the leak via the Odin exe. on my 64 bit machine with no problems.
Really? I can't even get my computer to recognize my phone, not even as usb storage. I've installed and reinstalled every driver I could find. I've even plugged it into a couple different computers. The best answer I could get was that it was because of the my windows version from the samsumg tech support woman. Is there a special driver out there or am I missing something?

Well I tried a few chords. Is there any root methods that I can do from the device without a computer?
Download the latest Kies.
Let it install and make sure you select the USB drivers.
Uninstall Kies because it's ****.
Leave drivers.
Replug handset (make sure debugging is on)
This should put you in the clear mate. If it doesn't, get the Android Development Kit for the proper ADB drivers
Go to shop development, look for the pre root kernel, download USB drivers. It works, but your computer doesn't have the drivers for the phone

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'll keep trying
That's a damn lie. I have a new 27" iMac with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit installed on it. I have successfully connected my Galaxy Note to the computer, every time.
There is a problem with how to get the computer to recognize your phone, that I never had with any of my HTC phones... With my HTC EVO's, all I had to do was connect my phone to a USB, and a bunch of options would automatically pop-up, asking me how I wanted to use my phone. I'd select the option to use my phone as a 'USB Storage Device,' and a few seconds later, my computer would automatically recognize my phone.
You can't seem to do it this way with Samsung phones. What you have to do, is:
MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE IS NOT ALREADY CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER VIA USB!!! This is a must! Your computer will not recognize your phone if it's already connected BEFORE following the other steps.
Go to SETTINGS.
Select the first option (WIRELESS AND NETWORK).
Then you must select USB UTILITIES.
A screen saying "USB Mass Storage" will pop-up, and there will be a button you have to press stating, "CONNECT STORAGE TO PC."
Upon selecting "Connect Storage to PC," then and ONLY THEN, you will finally connect your phone to the USB.
If you follow these steps, after a few seconds, your computer will download any necessary drivers, and eventually it will recognize your phone. I am not sure why it's this difficult to do this on Samsung phones. Like I said, HTC phones are really simple. It doesn't matter when you connect the USB on HTC phones. Samsung, you can only connect it at a certain time. I hope this works for you.
I also run Windows 7 64 on my laptop, and have no problem with my Note. Odin, files transfers, Kies, everything works.
Steve
I used to use my old pen 4 desktop(one im typing from now) to do all my phone modding... When I bought my galaxy I thought that this machine was too sketchy and decided to use my win7 64bit xps laptop... Flawless.
Okay, so the samsung woman gave me the wrong information. Thanks Dr. Evo. I tryed your technique with no success. I haven't had any luck with anything. Could this possibly be a problem with my device? I'm considering a trip to the at&t store.
same here....
Funny... I'm now having the same issue on my laptop.... It connects fine to my 2k8 R2 x64 Server just fine. That one is an old and heavily upgraded Dell D9100 tower. I'm pretty sure I got it recognized on my ASUS U43J Bamboo laptop with Win7 Pro x64 when first got the phone. I've since reimaged and did a fresh install of the OS and drivers, and I'm certain that I reinstalled all the drivers and updates.
Tired the drivers built into KIES 2.0 - fail
Tried the USB_Driver_for_ATT_I717_Galaxy_Note_v1_3_2200_0 driver I used on my 2k8 server - fail
About to try some other drivers I found here. If something works, I'll report it...
***UPDATE***
Before trying any other drivers I decided to try one more thing...
With the phone connected via USB, shut the phone down, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on. On my laptop, PnP found three devices and installed the drivers when the phone powered on:
SAMSUNG Mobile USB Composite Device
SGH-I717
SAMSUGN Mobile USB Modem
Kies 2.0 then saw the device... still sitting there saying "Connecting..." but at least I'm one step further...

I'm sorry my advice didn't help. I honestly have no idea what your issue could be. Are you still within your 30-day return window? If you were, I'd ask for a replacement phone, or if you bought your phone at an AT&T Store or BB, ask if anyone in the store has the ability to connect your phone to a laptop or computer in the store to see if they can get it to work.
For me it worked on 2 different Win 64 installs.
Here is what I did:
Install Kies. On the phone go to settings>apps>development and then check on USB debugging.
Phone connects perfectly. You can see the phone listed as a device in my computer. Clicking on it allows you to access both the USB storage and SD card.
To other poster saying you NEED to enable USB storage. You don't. It works in MTP mode.
Unplug all other usb hardware. Try another jack and cable. Don't use a hub. All virus and firewall software should be off. Log on to windows update with the phone plugged in and turned on. You might have to reboot and check again.
Hey Guys,
I have had my note 2 for a couple weeks now and have finally decided I want to root/unlock it. I am running into some very frustrating problems trying to get the drivers to install. I have tried using Kies to install them, that doesn't work. I have tried the toolkit and that also doesn't work. Every time I plug my phone into my computer after installing the drivers (Yes, I have checked "USB DEBUGGING") it just continuously starts flipping back and forth between "connected as an installer" and "MTTP".
I am at a complete loss on how to get this thing connected to my computer. When I check the status on the toolbar it always says Samsung_Android = "failed" or "device unplugged". Device manager picks up the phone but there is the yellow warning box present and when I select update drivers it tells me they have already been installed and updated.
I first thought I was having problems because I am running windows via bootcamp on my macbook, but I have tried installing the drivers on 3 other PCs and each one will not pick up my phone. This isn't my first go-round with rooting/unlocking phones, so to say this is very frustrating is a complete understatement.
Is it possible I have a faulty phone or is there something else I can try?
Thanks for the help.
Go to control panel/system/about computer. Should show u what ur computers running. And on the left is advanced settings. Open it and go to hrdware. The setting on the bottom about driver installation, adjust that to only install drivers from windows if not on my computer. Un install all ur phone drivers, restart, re install, restart and u should be all good. Windows pisses me off. Lol hope this helps.

Computer wont recognize my device anymore. I have downloaded every set of drivers from this forum, from the samsung website, I even tried downloading kies but it wouldnt recognize it either.
It worked before I did the following and now it doesnt.
First I rooted my phone with route 66 everything was going fine until I made the huge mistake (not knowing) and downloaded rom manager so that I could do a nandroid backup. Well as we all know now, you cant do that. So I got the deadly uellow verizon triangle saying unauthorized software bring it to the store. So I went through the xda forums and found the one that told me how to fix it. I used odin with the alternate restore and got it back up and running. So I wanted to go back and use adams one click unlock and root. I got everything downloaded and ready. I put my phone in developer mode and plugged it in. It starts trying to find the drivers and then it flips from debugger mode to media mode everytime. It starts seeing it as everything but a samsung phone. It says found camera and even cd rom but not the phone. I have read through everything and tried everything I could think of but I am at a loss. PLEASE HELP

I tried that, it is still not seeing it like it is supposed to. I was able to get Odin to recognize it so that I could flash the rooted stock again but I can't get Casual Jailbreak to work. I'm not sure if it is because the drivers or not but I am guessing it has something to do with it. Every time I plug it in, it starts searching for drivers and then always switches from usb debugging mode to media mode. The checkmark is still in usb debugging but I don't think it actually is. You can watch it go from device as installer to media.
Are you using the driver install app (zadig i think its called) to install the heimdall driver on top of "gadget serial". Looking at your other post it seems like a driver issue. One thing ive noticed is, if odin can see the device then heimdalll cant and vice/versa. So if odin can see it you have the wrong driver, if you are infact installing the heimdall driver my second question is, does windows xp x64 use driver sig enforcement like win7 x64 does? if so you probably need to disable it. Just throwing my $0.02 out there.
Are you using the official USB cable? I had an aftermarket cable that had worked for months, then decided to quit working. It works with other devices just not the Note2. Changed to my original cable and all is well.

I rooted my phone a while back with a one click root process that rooted it to a rooted version of the stock rom. Recently I recieved notification that Jelly Bean is now available for my phone and that I need to connect to my computer via usb to update. But, my computer keeps getting a "device not recognized" error. I tried to install Kies for the drivers with no luck, uninstalled the drivers from Kies and installed the others straight from the Samsung website with no luck. I have tried 2 different computers and three different usb cables, including 2 oem usb cables. I have windows 7 which may be the problem. Are there any work arounds like going to stock from my sd card? My phone is no longer rooted, but for some reason still has Superuser which i can uninstall still. I brought my phone to Sprint which the guy was really cool and informed me that its not the usb port on the phone and that odin is recognizing it, but odin on my computers doesn't even see it.

Did you have the Android drivers installed previously? I'm assuming that you're trying to install the drivers for the first time on that your computer and that you have USB Debugging enabled. I'll also be assuming you disabled driver verification, which can be a problem in some computers.
First you need to boot your phone normally, and plug it into the computer. Press Win+R to open the "Run" dialog and run "devmgmt.msc," which is the Device Manager. Look up the "Unknown Device" that is your phone and double click it. Click on the Event tab and check the Hardware ID in the drop-down box. It should look something like this (sorry mine is Android Composite ADB Interface because I've installed it already, but that's what it should look like in the end):
Now you have to make a new section in the driver inf. It should be in the google adt bundle and in the extras\google directory. The file name is android_winusb.inf. In the picture below my tablet is the iDeaUSA CT702. You need to add one of these sections in both the x86 and x64 section if you have a 64 bit computer. If not, just put it in the x86 section. The %USB stuff needs to match that in the Device Manager Hardware ID.
Now you should have a device called Android Composite ADB Interface or anything like that is fine.
It says there are no drivers and that there is no hardware id. All there is are device instance id. Im not quite sure where the driver.inf is located. This has been a pain for the past week. Hopefully we can figure this out. Lol.

If you don't know where the driver is, then download a new one. I've uploaded the official Google USB driver to mediafire here: Mediafire - usb_driver.zip
You need to modify this driver, then when asked to select the inf file for driver installation choose the android_winusb.inf inside. After installation your phone should be recognized. Please tell me if there's any uncertainties you have.
Have you tried connecting the device with usb dev mode disabled? I know its strange but I've a few devices that use different drivers if the usb dev mode is enabled. I've also devices where I need to enable usb mass storage setting every time (settings menu or slide down notification). Also it never hurts to try a new cable, usb wires do tend to wear out and are very cheaply manufactured so they break inside with the slightest tug of the wire. I know most of this stuff is uber basic but I've made things much worse on countless occasions by overlooking simple stuff like this.

Good point. If you don't have developer mode usb debugging enabled, then there will be no "unknown device" as shown above in the device manager. Be more detailed about "no luck" please.
