Thumb Keyboard - Streak 5 Themes and Apps

Did a quick sesrch and didnt find anything on it here, so im not sure if its been discussed here or not. I paid for a new keyboard tonight that i must say is pretty awesome for our Streaks, and i woild reccommend it. Thumb Keyboard. It is quite customizable with different variations, themes, and ability to even change letter sizes. It will take a bit of getting used to if you choose the split screen option as i have, but all in all its pretty sweet. Give it a looksee.

Just installed this app too and I'm loving its 5" split keyboard layout.

I have been using it for a while now. I stick to standard keyboards for my setup.
Sent from The SuperStreak!

I've been using it for quite a while now too, and really love that the new update brought multi-touch (before I would seriously screw up words here and there because multiple fingers would confuse it).

Thumb Keyboard just needs one thing
I'm loving it...
Before I was using the Swype keyboard because of the size of the buttons and I really didn't like the Gingerbread keyboard or the ANdroid....
The Thumb Keyboard only needs one minor little tweak which is the way it handles full screen input... I don't like for it to take up the whole screen so I have it set not to, but sometimes then I can't see the box I'm typing into because it gets stuck behind the keyboard...
Beyond that I have no complaints

I've been using TK since January with no problems. However, the update from yesterday V4.1 causes FCs every 5-6 SECONDS following reboot until uninstall and reinstall of 3.02. I have been in contact with Paul (developer) for past week.
Anyone else having this problem? It only happens if I reboot. From install to reboot it works perfectly.
StreakDroid 1.9.0 New Engineered BB

Im using 4.0 and the only issue i have is that the "a" button gives me double a's all the time. Weird, and annoying. Otherwise im liking this keyboard a lot.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App

My keyboard of choice as well. Cheap, lots of updates and development. Awesome customization, themes...
Just another app to make the Streak awesomer!

TK v4.1 is now working perfectly for me. Much better build than 4.0.
Everything I downloaded from the market this past week had a problem installing. Market ran slow and fc'd constantly. That cleared up yesterday. I re-downloaded all of my updates from last week and everything installed correctly and runs perfectly!

I had the same issue. Doing a Screen Calibration on Recovery Mode (power + up + down buttons) fixed it.
To everyone using Thumb Keyboard -- is it just me or the latest version is a little bit slow/laggy?

As I said above, v4.1 is much better than v4.0.
I only notice a lag when posting on certain forum esp. Pocketables Dell Streak Forum. Otherwise, no lag.
Developer e-mailed me that a new version will be out soon to correct the number pad bug.
kraz

Am running 4.1.2, and loving it by the way, 5" inch goodness and both thumbs going, just drives the wife crazy (one small enjoyment since she has been driving me crazy for 26 years on pretty regular basis) Anyways is beansoft going to update to 4.1.3 or is 4.1.2 the update?

4.1.2 is the most current. I don't know what the next version will be numbered. Could be 4.1.3 or he may skip some versions before releasing the update.

keyboard lag and accuracy on touchpad on webos?

anyone else here notice a lag in the keyboard typing especially on browser, say like replying in a forum...plus the accuracy does not seem to be very good.
Same here! It was fine for a while after I disabled the ripple effect. But starts slowing down again. Its one of the main reasons I keep getting back to android. WebOS has nice interface.

Wi fi is not perfect on cm7 but is working well enough to not have to use web os. You are missing out since Android is working great even in an alpha stage. There is no reason to not give it a try since there is no risk in doing so.
HTC Vision(G2)/meXdroidmod

No problems on WebOS keyboard; I kind of like it better than the stock android keyboards.
As for CM7 Android, it's definitely still an alpha product; it is great if you don't have any problems, but if you do, you are just out of luck. I had no problems with Alpha 2 with Xron's great package 1.37, but alpha 3 with Xron's 3.3 package gives me wifi nightmares. I've seen a few posts with problems like mine - the wifi has to be re-enabled after every boot - also, my wifi drops the connection after 3 or 4 minutes. Kills me because otherwise it is so great. I'd recommend trying it - maybe you'll be like most people and won't have any of the wifi problems.
iirc the breif reading i did so far its a dual boot? so i dont really lose webos at all and can boot into either OS?

Correct. You do not lose web os if you install cm7. That is the beauty of the touchpad. Two operating systems available in one tablet. You have a choice on which to use on demand.

One of the things I like about the webOS keyboard is the accuracy of it, but there is indeed some lag when typing in some forms.
Also, Shift + Enter actually works on the webOS keyboard unlike all Android soft keyboards it's useful for the facebook site or entering a new line
And the webOS browser renders full pages better than most Android browsers as well
I've noticed that android keyboard works ligtyears better for me and typing and zero lag.
Typing seems good for me on WebOS. Sometimes taps seem a little off, but I'm not sure if it's me or not. Anywho, you may want to check out some of the patches in preware. There are some to address scrolling speed and you can disable the ripple effect on clicks.
Personally, I really like WebOS and haven't bothered with the CM7 alpha's yet (I do have two other Android devices in the house though -- one a Nook running CM7, so I know what's out there).

[Q] Why do all keyboards seem inaccurate on the SGS II?

I've had the SGS II for about three weeks now and have continuous issues with keyboard input accuracy. From the Samsung and stock Android keyboard, to the ICS hacked version (and then the Market version) as well as Swiftkey X - I make mistake after mistake regardless of whichever one I'm using. I'm coming from a Captivate where the text input seemed a non-issue on any keyboard I used. It almost feels like the touch panel/digitizer isn't aligned with where my fingers are touching.
Does anyone else have issues with keyboard accuracy? I love this phone but this issue is really preventing me from enjoying the experience.
I'd highly recommend the ICS keyboard linked later in this thread. Much better than what I initially posted.
Swiftkey X works perfectly fine for me.
I'm using the ported ICS keyboard found on the market and it works very well. There have not been any problems for me at all.
Just installed it and I find myself making the same mistakes as any of the other ones. It's so weird...I've never had this problem on the Captivate and other phones in the past.

Happy camper here
I see a couple ICS keyboards on the Market, can ya provide a link? I'm always up for finding something new although as I mentioned already, I like SKP.
I am using go keyboard from the market with go launcher and I noticed the button( keys) are bigger. But honestly I don't have any issues with my keyboard calibration works fine. I sometimes not a wrong key but that is my fault and not a calibration issue. Possibly you can calibrate your screen? Never have done it but I think it can be done. Maybe a bad phone also?

I was able to eliminate this problem by loading the cognition rom. Im not sure exactly why it fixed it but i assume it because it is an international rom that was ported.
im using the swype beta 3.6 doesnt really need to be "accurate" since all you do is "swype" it. but it is fairly accurate for me if i have to type with it.
I'm using the swype keyboard on mine Galaxy S2, I am a new convert from the iPhone and can barely type on this thing. Thank God for swipe. It appears to me that i have to hit the upper portion of the key to make an accurate key press. If I hit it dead on I get the key below it, strange.

I use the newest update of Swype and its definitely not as smooth and accurate as it was on my cappy. I'm On my second sgs2, and have had accuracy issues on both. It's not horrible, just not as good as my cappy. It's the only thing that was better on my cappy compared to this phone, so I'll deal with it.

Yes.. flashing a rom and having no earthly idea why it just magically fixed is quite a solution! Let me jjust drop everything I'm doing, lose all of my time and effort of making my current rom the way i want it so I can flash the rom you are assuming fixed it without any facts or reasoning so I can make you happy.

Yes, it seems like you have to hit the letter you want about 2mm high. At first I thought it was because I was converting over from the iPhone, but two months later I still had problems. I have kind of retrained to hit the buttons on the upper half. I am going to try the ICS keyboard.
And a goodnight too.

Can someone test Swype for me?

Hey guys!
I have a small favor to ask, and I figure this is probably the best place. I was wondering if anyone with the Note could open up a quick text message with Swype on and try something for me.
When the keyboard pops up, take your index finger and swipe back and forth very quickly on the letters. You don't have to type anything specific, just go back and forth fast.
Could you let me know which of the two scenarios occur?
1) Nothing happens until you finally stop swiping and when you do, you get one long word and/or a message saying that it wasn't recognized; or,
2) You get a bunch of small words that are being entered WHILE you're going back and forth.
One of these two have to result, and I found some inconsistencies with the touch screen today.
Thanks <33
Both occur depending on speed when I go at the speed I would have used on my Captivate it breaks it up into little words (used swype for almost two years so quickly) but when I slow down it works normally. I found this issue out when I first got my phone and sadly had to switch from swype as I cant swype near "full speed".

Ok, so I'm assuming that you're saying your Note is affected by this as well?
I ask because I was in the vicinity of a few other Notes today. The issue was confirmed on 2 out of the 5 devices. You could not force the Swype to break on the other 3 no matter how insanely fast you swiped. I have a feeling the issue is a little more wide-spread that I had originally thought. Swype is literally unusable for me in this state, I can't swipe nearly as fast as I'm used to, and it causes me to actually type way slower than I'm used to because of it. I have a replacement on the way, but I wanted to dig a little into the problem in the meantime.
Edit:
I wanted to add, it doesn't matter which rom I'm on, which version of Android, or which version of Swype. I've tried it all.
I don't have any issues on mine. I do use the s pen tho. Pretty damn fast too. Quick question though, do you usually Swype back and forth whilst typing etc.

Swiping back and forth is just a surefire way to reproduce the problem. For someone that swipes fast, it makes the problem a real issue. A friend of mine on an unaffected Note tried using mine to swype and he instantly recognized that he wasn't able to.

Sounds like you have a good Note.
I've formatted the cache partition about 40 times since I've had the Note. My problem persists through all of that. It was an issue with the stock GB, and DAG's ROM, and the ICS roms that I'm testing now. They are all the same.
I am envious of you. Hopefully my new one will work right.
Other tweaks I've made since upgrading to ICS has been to reduce my animation transitions to .5x (from 1x) and reduce VM heap from 256 to 128.
Just trying to think of any little thing that might help for some reason.
Edit: also have 2D rendering forced on in developer settings.

Edit: interesting. just tried the same using my finger instead. get short words a lot. sometimes none, but often it starts breaking it up. So I think someone else reported this same finding so it must lie somewhere within that. To me though I hate using swype with my finger. Unless I just washed my hands there's way too much drag to swype quickly. With the s.pen I can go twice as fast and oddly enough this issue does not appear.

There is a variable here somewhere. You are inflicted with the same issue with your finger that a couple of us have, where I've personally tested this on two Notes where I could confirm it wasn't a problem. I hate to just think it's some flaw in the touch screens, but I don't know what else to try.

Keyboard sucks

I can't seem to find a good keyboard for the razr. I have used swift key for a while on my other HTC built phones, but this is my first Motorola phone and the keyboard just can't keep up with me. I have tried every 3rd party keyboard and none of the can keep up with me on the razr but can perfectly fine on the other phones that I have. Im starting to think its the software problem. The stock keyboard keeps up better than any other keyboard but it still can't keep up. When I had an iPhone no matter how fast I typed it kept up (no Im Not a fanboy)
Is there a hack of mod that I can flash to make the keyboard/screen more responsive?
Thanks

I use this one and it's my current favorite -- BUT it has a bug on the RAZR (running stock GB) where I often get the first letter of a word doubled after I go back to correct another mistake. Works really well otherwise -- accurate and super fast.
Example: "Where ate you" and I backspace to change "ate" to "are" and then when I go to type you again I get yyou, It's a bug because the first y isn't underlined and the auto correct only affects the part I actually typed. Very occasionally I get double letters like "yoyou" when you is all I typed. Doesn't happen too often.....
Do you have this issue with it?
Does FC from time to time.... but that just seems to be an issue on the phone itself.

some people are just useless and they blame the hardware lol
I installed it today, so my experience not really great. But i got zero buggs till now.
I have tried all of those keyboards and yes thumb keyboard is the fastest by far, but it has that really annoying bug for me too, and it still doesnt keep up. I love swiftkey but I only have problems with it keeping up with me on this phone.
Edit:
Apparently Thumb Keyboard hasn't updated his app in the amazon app store in a while. I got it on one of the days that it was free. I just got it for $2.50 on the play store, and switched to the ics theme, and it works amazingly!
Thanks guys
personally I love the stock keyboard that is loaded by default, great coloring, love the predictive words to chose from and its just the right size for my fingers in landscape mode and I have yet to be able to type faster then it can recognize (didn't even know that was possible). If you can out type the buffer you spend WAY to much time on your phone texting.

Per this post I spend way too much time texting, as I can out-type most keyboards. Last night, based on this thread I tried out Thumb KB, and I'm loving it. The dev actually has a 24hr refund policy, which gave me the confidence to try it for two bucks or whatever.

I am currently using SwiftKey (paid version), and must agree that at times it did have a bit of trouble keeping up.
I ended up fiddling around in setCPU in order to make it feel a bit snappier, and surprisingly it worked! Jury is still out on whether it is a placebo effect or not though.
I've also blocked it from accessing networks using DroidWall (amazing app, everyone should have it), mostly for privacy reasons, but perhaps it also might have an effect.
If you have root, I would recommend playing with the CPU settings and see if it helps. No point abandoning a keyboard you like if there is a potential fix.

Maybe its just me, and I am aware of most of the situations where texting is needed (school, work, church and things like that), but given the choice i would rather spend 30 seconds on a phone call then 5 minutes texting back and forth.
If you don't mind my asking how many texts would you say you send in a day?
I will say the stock keyboard and screen size has me typing faster on a touchscreen then I've ever managed before (2-Archos 5's, an EnV touch and a SGS player 4.0 over the last 5 years) but nowhere near your speed clearly.

Looking back at my logs it seems I send 200-300 texts in a day. When I say that it looks excessive; however most of these are ongoing conversations with friends or family. These are usually times when a phone call is not really warranted, and some people (like my wife with our kids) are really busy and can't always take a phone call.
I agree the razr keyboard and screen are great - I type almost as fast as I used to on my blackberrys.

Its my biggest complaint. Text entry i a total pain. I thought maybe its the tapered glass, but the s3 had it too, and I had no issues using the same keyboards.
Please chime in

honestly, I haven't noticed an issue except for typical wrong predictions when I butcher the spelling really bad
/high school education problems
No problems here. Fast and accurate typing on just about Ny keyboard.

The stock keyboard w/ Sense sucks, but you seem to be having a different issue.
I use SwiftKey and have not had any issues at all.
perhaps ill try swiftkey. I cant imagine it being a software issue. Ive tried the sense keyboard and also the ICS keyboard and my typing is just totally innaccurate for some reason. Never had this problem on any other phone. Thanks for the input fellas

Swiftkey for the win. I picked up a DNA last night, and to be honest only used the stock keyboard long enough to get my back restored. No issues with Swiftkey on it.
I'll chime in here with Swiftkey also. I have been using that since release and never looked back. So far I am enjoying swiftkey flow even though I was never a swype fan. Flow's word predictions are excellent.
I've been using Swype since it came out and it was one of the first things I installed on my DNA, No problems here at all.
using swiftkey flow/swiftkey, no issues since day 1. you should make sure your not pressing the screen with another part of your hand/fingers as the screen goes right to the edge of the phone, sometimes i find when im watching a video the side of my finger might touch the screen and pause it. You might not be used to a phone with such a small bezel.
Just got my DNA, and I have no trouble typing at all.
you know what? for the last two years, ive swore by the GB/ICS/JB keyboards as they were nice looking and very accurate. To me they suck on this phone, maybe its me, maybe its the screen size, idk, but I will say this, I used swiftkey before and wasnt really a fan,
BUT
i just put it on my DNA and it has solved my woes! Thanks for the input guys.
Silly question, but have you done the touchscreen calibration? Settings -> Language & keyboard -> HTC Sense Input -> Advanced -> Calibration Tool.
Not a single issue for me. Especially coming from a GS3. I can type rather fast on this keyboard lol
