Don't use rom manager manually flash recoveries
Sent from my Optimus V
belive me i wont.. I have locked up 2 other optimus v's... I dont under stand i have used rom manager on 2 different. phone models in the past and put custom
roms with no problems... obviously that is not the case with the vm670!!! Well than
Do you have the optimus vm670.... if so
I need some advise .. How do you manualy flash a recovery .... And witch version to use for the Optimus VM670
If you have terminal emulator type
Su
Flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img (your recovery file might be called something else, mine is called vrecovery.img, so I typed that in) then turn off phone, hold the home button, volume down and power until your phone gets past the first LG screen. And I hope you have a backup to load. And don't forget to type su first.
Or you can hook it up to your computer and use adb to type in commands. I haven't tried that yet, so I don't know if the commands are the same.

ok thanks.. so that is what the terminal emulator is for... Well have you ever tried to do something in the past and ended up with a blue screen (fastboot)?
this had happened to me twice already, and had to replace. both devices almost afraid to try anything ... are you currently using
a custom rom? Also what would be the best way to backup with out. using Rom Manager ? or would it be ok to use RM
just for a backup

Go to the link above and follow step by step, you could have saved your last two phones with this. Once you do this, you should be safe using rom manager on future flashes. I use it all the time... don't skip any steps
And the blue screen is the boot screen, that's about as much as I know a out it, I'm pretty new to all of this, I think it comes up if no recovery is installed
And I am using the most recent aosp cm7 if you follow the link uptop it will walk you through everything, even backing up. Its almost impossible to fully brick these things, and one more thing, leave all files zipped, ce recovery unzips them, they aren't normal .Zip files

Ok thanks...well the only problem is that I really don't have pc access to flash a custom recovery ...sucks..
Also tried to use terminal emulator
No luck.." flash.img not found"
Tons of people blogging same results .. well I guess I will have to wait, for computer access Or an easier way ...What really sucks is that I have a older 2.1 disconnected android with CyanogenMod 7 running android
2.3 Awesome ....
Wish could I could get on my optimus v ! Or something like it

I have looked and looked and cant find the answer. Im not a pro but not a noob so its hard for me to even ask lol. I have rooted his phone and have clockwork on it but i cant get it to create a backup. I have tried the different clockworkmods in rom manager but none work. The phone just restarts and nothing. I have looked in the forum and see that the optimus series of phone are for the most part the same. All i need is a recovery for rom manager that works and im set. Hope someone can help.
Please explain more. If you get a Bad Boot message it means your battery is low or you don't have enough memory. Describe what actions you are doing by not jst saying it reboots. Say what you selected before that.

Ok when I select any of the clockworkmods from the list in Tom manager and try to have the phone make a backup or go into recovery the phone either gets stuck on the LG screen and I have to do a battery pull or reboots with no error message.

How long is it stuck on the lg logo? If it takes longer than 4 minutes you may have to use amon ra recovery instead of clockwork.

Screw ROM Manager. Is it so hard to push 3 buttons to get into recovery? Also, do NOT flash recovery via ROM Manager unless you want fastboot.

Hey guys,
I need some help with this CWM. It is my first time using this phone.
Ok, I will go through all the things I have down so far.
I got the phone yesterday from AT&T (America) and immediately updated OTA to official firmware 4.5.91.
I then downloaded pudding for AT&T/android 2.3.4, downloaded the latest windows 7 drivers, and the latest RSD lite 5.3.1.
I used RSD to flash pudding onto the phone, but did not enable USB debugging, or the other option to allow non-android/certified installations (located at setting, applications...I think)
That resulted in a no OS found, error 1x000 on the phone, and an error in RSD. RSD said something around the likes of: error - could not switch...something the phone then gave me a list of options and went into fastboot protocol mode.
I thought to myself: "darn, I bricked my phone", but I saw that it went into fastboot mode. I did the fastboot cmd's from my computer to unlock the phone, which seemed successful (unlock on the top left corner), but after I did fastboot reboot, the phone was stuck in the dual core screen, with unlock on top left still.
I had to pull out the battery, but the phone then booted up normally.
Thinking that everything is now fine, and still forgetting to enable those setting in the phone, I booted the phone in fastboot protocol mode and installed ROMracers CWM.
However, I didn't use the second command to delete CWM before installing romracers. It installed fine though, from what I saw.
So I then try to go into the CWM by holding the power button and volume down, then scrolling down to recovery and hitting volume up.
Then the android guy and the triangle warning sign shows up. Great.
What did I do wrong? Everything seems to have worked so far. I am using the latest versions of everything.
I am following a tutorial video on youtube (two weeks old), and I am at work right now so I have not gotten to the part where he gets the same error on his demonstration phone; however, i saw that the guy downloaded a file explorer that can do a specific thing that other programs cannot, but it costs money. I didn't see any more.
What should I do?
Download and install a root file manager, and delete recovery-sh from /system/etc, then try again
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
If you tap the bottom right corner of the screen you will get stock android recovery options.
If you flash the cwm of your choice and immediately boot into recovery after you flash it you should be able to get into ur custom recovery until you fully try to reboot again. I think..... its been a while since I was in that boat.
You soft bricked it, that happens if you unlock the bl after 2.3.4 is on the phone. Its common

Thanks guys.
What program should I use to delete that file? Preferably a free one...why doesn't everyone else have to get an app to successfully install CWM?????
Also can I just install this even though my phone is already unlocked with pudding on it?

You can use es file explorer and use the root option in the preferences,

I went through the same thing you did up until the ROM choice. Even the pulling of the battery. So I would say that is normal and you should not think the problem is there.
My Atrix came with the 2.3.4 update already installed and I did the pudding bit with RDS (which didn't give me root, I had to use the adb method). I flashed the Ninja Speed ROM (very happy with it) and I didn't have any problems.
Did you check with known issues of your ROM? Some require specific recovery apps.

I downloaded the app, but the root feature only works on rooted ROMS/firmwares.
Seeing that I can not put any ROM's on my phone because CWM doesn't work, I am stuck...
Does this help at all...

Do you mean my CWM choice?
Most of the guides say that you should install CWM before installing ROMs.
They also say that the Rom's themselves root the device.
I do not know what to do...
Someone help me out

Did you successfully root your device? If you did just download a terminal app and delete it through the command line. If you don't know how to do that we can help.

Sorry I saw you didn't root it. Do you have the Motorola RSD lite program for your computer? I would go into the firmware super thread and use RSD lite to get your phone back to square 1.
I used plain old CWM and I am more than happy sticking with mainstream recovery options.

Do not use rsd to go back to square one!!!!
Your atrix has the retail ota on it, you WILL HARDBRICK if you flash using rsd. All you can do on 2.3.4 with rsd is flash pudding. Ifyour unlocked already, delete rsd!

This should help you get back to romracer's recovery.
1) Download romracer's recovery for your AT&T phone from his recovery thread in the development section. Make sure you download the fastboot version, not the .zip version.
2) Connect your phone to your computer, and put it into fastboot
3) Open up a command prompt on your windows computer, and issue the following commmand:
fastboot erase recovery
moto-fastboot flash recovery recovery.img***
***you should replace recovery.img with whatever the recovery file you downloaded is called
4) Then boot into recovery and it should be the recovery that you chose in the first step. Hope this helps. If it does, make sure to thank joeavery2, as it is part of his complete wipe guide!
Well, I have tried to flash my phone with cm7 for the last 3 days and when I go to reboot recovery it freezes at the LG screen and I am forced to pull my battery possibly bricking my phone. Does anyone, I mean anyone have a safe sure way to flash my phone? And I have no pc access.....srry

You need a computer. Either you didn't install recovery right. Or you're too impatient. Sometimes it hangs for a minute or so.

use terminal emulator and reflash your recovery with flash_image. you got a bad flash or a bad download of the recovery it sounds like.
there is a slim chance you aren't rooted correctly too, in which case it won't let you flash the recovery until you get permanent root. hopefully this isn't the case.
Pretty dumb question what's flash image n just incase how do I check. For a permanent root?

My advice is not to do ANYTHING until you are at a computer and have at least a half an hour available. This sounds like your first time flashing a ROM, take some time to look up key terms and such, your patience will reward you greatly. It is difficult to flash without a computer. Go to a friends house, a library, something and do it from there. To check if you have root, download the app root checker from the market. Then, after confirming root status, work from there and flash a new recovery by pushing it through ADB. Then, place the ROM on the sd card and flash it through your recovery, then Google Apps. If you follow everything I say, and it still doesn't work, come back to this thread or send me a PM and we will go from there. Look into guides before posting, not trying to be mean, but they are there for a reason.
I'm sorry but i couldnt find anything about it.
So, basically my question is: Is it actually compatible with the XT720 and, if so, what model should i pick when i try to install clockworkmod recovery?
(The XT720 option is absent.)
I'm currently using dexter's froyo and planning on trying out a few other ROMs so ROM manager would be quite nice to have.
Thanks in advance.
It can run this but its dangerous to use it advice stick to open recovery.
Sent from my XT720 using xda premium
OK, thanks.
Is it normal to be stuck on system dumping for more than an hour while making a backup? The media LED is blinking the whole time.
I'm doing it with open recovery, as adviced
Soo I tried again after an hour and a half of waiting and another half hour after that, the result - two 3.5MB files... I gave up and decided to go ahead and install CronosX-RC1-br301-g but openrecovery just sais there's nothing in the cronosx folder, i try to restore all, and basically nothing happens. After rebooting dexter's froyo is intact so i'm going to bed and hoping somebody will help
What Open recovery are you using.
Sent from my XT720 using xda premium
1.46, if i understand right. it's system recovery in app drawer, which kinda puts me off
Install open recovery apk then open install open recovery system and boot in to recovery.

Can anyone help me find a site with stock roms for lg e739 or the lg mytouch 4g? I need it to flash my phone back to stock. Any help would be greatly appreciatied.
Tsk Tsk Tsk, on you for not backing up your stock.
You could always try the LG Mobile Support Tool
www[DOT]lg[DOT]com/us/support/mobile-devices/phone-support
I havent tried to use this method yet so I'm not 100% sure it puts you back to stock, as it came out of box.
Download and install LG mobile support tool, run LG Mobile Update. Click on Customer Support in the menu, then click recovery. Remember to have your e739 connected via usb.
I did make a backup. It just won't restore. Even tried removing the Android secure file from my backup and got a md5 sum mismatch. Downloaded someone else's backup and it shut my phone off before the restore was complete just like my backup before I removed the Android secure file. Now I'm stuck wit cm7.2. Should I flash cwm before I restore like I did when I installed cm7 the first time?
Sent from my LG-E739 using xda premium
You got the md5 error because you removed something from the nandroid...thus changing the ckecksum.
I would say try flashing that nandroid that you downloaded. Makin sure its named correctly. Without removing any files from it.
Also try to redownload that stock nandroid backup n try again. Btw which one was it?
Did you wipe cache system and data partitions before flashing nandroid?
Do not wipe sd card.thats where nandroid would be.
On my e739 during flashing nandroids Ive had it get stuck at lg logo once or twice. All I did then was use adb reboot-restore...then tried reboot from cwm again...if that didnt work then do adb again to get to recovery and flash nandroid again...dont give up. If you want stock keep trying.
You could flash ur cm again to get working on ur phone again but thats not what you want is it?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
If you cant boot into an android you can use adb to push files to ur sd card...If you dont want to do that then ull have to flash cm n use file manager of choice.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
I would offer my e739 stock backup...but i got it from a third party..and it has extra bloat and carrier iq on it. so im keeping it in a safe place.

I don't know how to get adb to work. I downloaded the sdk and jdk but don't know how to set the path. I wiped data, cache, dalvik, and battery stats before I tried to restore. Still running cm7 but upgraded to the RC. It's quite smooth. Scared to try another restore since each time it stops I get a bootloop and have to hard reset to get back into recovery. And Odin doesn't support my lg. :-( any other suggestions?
Sent from my LG-E739 using xda premium
If you lived close enough I would willingly trade. No lol. Real talk! But have you tried unlock root? Our worked like a charm on my e739.
Sent from my LG-E739 using xda premium
To get adb working put phone in debugging mode
applications>development>tick debugging mode
Connect via usb..start>run>cmd type: cd c:\androidSDK\platform-tools
press enter
you can now type adb commands
type: adb devices hit enter that will show you connected devices
to get into recovery type: adb reboot recovery
device should now reboot into recovery
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
Well still not able to get adb for ask to work but on a brighter note, I finally got my phone to restore to stock. Wiped everything 3x's factory/data reset, cache, and dalvik. Then I formatted my system, hit restore, and voila! It went back. Back to cm7.2 RC since TMobile now wants to charge extra to tether. Even tried ICS or cm9 but think I'm gonna wait till there is a more stable version
