hello all.
I am posting this in hopes of getting a favorable response from all the good folks that use the x10(i).
i am seriously considering getting an x10i (either for myself or the wife) however i wanted to open a discussion on some things...
in the past i bought an x10i (about 4 or so months ago - maybe longer) and i didnt like it so much not because of the hardware but because android 1.6 was sooo awful -- slow, sluggish and damn problematic. well now we have 2.2 on other devices and the x10 has 2.1 which is great.
I currently own a galaxy s and i love it for the most part. it lacks some hardware features like a camera flash, real notification led and its just Samsung. not the best when it comes to these things.
se on the other hand has real great potential and makes great looking phones although sometimes careless.
i see the x10 as having the things the galaxy s lacks but main the inability to still have 2.2 or even 2.3 which the galaxy may get first.
other things like the type of processor... i havent got a x10 in my hand to compare to the galaxy but is the arm processor on the galaxy faster than the qualcomm on the x10?
any feedback / advise is greatly appreciated.
oh and before i forget. the x10 is really the only option IF the purchase decision is made. the x10 i can get for $500 ... cant afford another galaxy s for $700. so its either x10 or nothing.
No.. no and no again.
The x10 has many bugs and faults.
The most common problem is hearing other ppl speak in a phone call.
YAY !!!!!!!!!
i know there are a lot of people ready to say this phone sucks, but as with any other android phone, if you tweak it enough, it's a great phone.
some days i get up to 48 hours of usage and some days i get 1 day.
there are times when it's slow, but if you close some of the running tasks it's great.
and this is the case with any other android phone.
also people complain about it not having 2.2.x but hey, i use it enough to say that does not matter.
IT DOES NOT HAVE MULTI TOUCH, so if you are the type that plays a lot of games, you might miss out on the ones that need multi touch.
just a few of my thoughts

48 hours of standby and 8 hours of usage...
Also multi touch allows you to type much faster.

In reference to the multi-touch. isn't that a promised update? and hardly have i found a game that really uses multi-touch ...
i realize that 2.2 has some improvements -- also SE has capped the frame rate at 30 for what-ever-reason so it may not feel as quick as the galaxyS. but whatever. 2.2 or 2.1 as long as they sort of keep up and not keep us in the 1.6 days!
i am considering getting it anyhow and probably handing the galaxyS to the wife.
this video shows good performance; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-zyb1Tnrjw
Also consider the fact that you need to send in the phone to a SE service center several times before they fix it.
As the first few times they will not even look at the phone.
They will just re-flash and send it back.
Also they are not enabling multitouch... they are enabling dual touch "it is very limited.

So im gonna go for iphone 4 for a year and see if the android gets better. Then ill join the android train again.

Dont like the idea that a phone "Can BE" better IF you tweak it and ladidaaaa. I want a fast phone from the start...

QFT
quoted for truth!
I would say get it if you're willing to spend some time tweaking the hell out of it. My phone is running better and smoother than all the desires and galaxies of my friends.
But honestly, don't ask in the x10 section. You'll almost definitely get a "get it" from most people since we're just not really neutral in our opinions. How could we be? It's the same in every section here on xda. Ask somewhere away from enthusiasts EXCEPT, like i said before, you're willing to spend time tweaking this device.
Cheers

The new hardware generation is right around the corner. If I where you I would use the Galaxy a little liner and wait for the dual core devices for example.
I myself can say: I never have.
This phone does seem to have less to none downsides, I heard reviewers complaining about the backcover of the phone, a missing camera button and the Samsung hubs being messy (mainly the social hub which I'm looking forward to, as I like it being all-in-one).
On the other half the advantages:
1. Huge 4,3'' Screen
2. Super AMOLED Plus (less energy consumption, more subpixels (= sharper), better colors)
3. 1,2 GHz Dual Core processor (less battery consumption, more power, great overall performance, ability to record and play 1080p videos and 720p flash content in the browser.
4. Android 2.3.3; great stability and a zillion apps. Nothing more to say.
5. The phone's design. I personally like it.
6. It's a super leightweight, you won't even notice holding it in your hand.
7. Huge internal storage (16/32gb and the support of up to 32gb SDHC
8. Touch Wiz 4.0
9. AllShare
10. 8MP Cam and 1080p recording
11. NFC (not available in every region)
12. On device encryption (imporant for business people)
13. Other technologies for business people (Cisco stuff, VPN and similar things)
14. Multimedia monster (plays almost every file you can imagine)
15 - 45634562475. All the things I didn't mention
I'm getting this phone the moment it's available in my country, no matter what, this is my personal phone of the year, I check all relevant pages daily to get all the news about this phone, kinda addicted I guess but it's very hard to resist this beautiful phone !
Anybody feeling the same ?
same goes for me, every delay is such pain in the ass.
i cant remember when i had the urge to own something so bad like this beast.
will you buy this phone? yeah, **** yeah?
very constructive poll right there

WTF? are you like 12 years old?
I felt this way while waiting for my motorcycle to be delivered...
Now Waiting for this phone is crazy... I hate the rumor mill of delays, it kills you then you get some joe schmoe saying, it was unconfirmed and it all dies down.
This phone looks really good specs wise and reviews have done it justice.
Well, I was eager ALMOST as much before my HTC HD2 was delivered ...........
Since the HD2 disappointed me somewhat I deeply hope the S2 will make it up ..............
The other phone which I anticipated so much was infact the HD2. That supermonster of a phone, after two years, is still a monster. The only phone that can dual-boot Android and WP7.

Hater, much?
The poll is obviously for fun aswell as the "15 - 45634562475."-stuff. Though I expect people who visit this subforum to be interested in the SGS2. Why not hype the phone abit that we're all waiting for? You can still present your opinion about the phone in this thread as I don't care if negative or positive but if you're just whining about others liking the phone then this is certainly the wrong area for you to be at.
Btw your critizising and whining makes YOU look like a 12 year old. Then again I'd like to know what you encounter to my "halfassed list". Bring it hater, bring it !
And yes, I love every aspect of this phone. If you're going from Samsung I8910HD to SGS2 this is a huge overall improvement, and there are people out there who switch from phones less good than my OHD, you should be able to imagine that those people really look forward to this phone.

I'm upgrading from a Sanyo SCP-8400 to the SGS2. You won't believe just how much I'm looking forward to this phone!!!
To answer the original question - there has never been a phone I've wanted more than this one. I was about to get an SGS when this was announced. There was plenty of debate before I picked that ahead of it's peers. Not so this time. There are no close seconds, no runner-ups, no debating among features to see which I want. Anything else would be a compromise.
No, I've never been this eager to get a phone. I haven't really anticipated the release of a phone as much as have videogame stuff. I hope that we'll see a released date soon, and then I can mark it on my calendar
I'm going to be upgrading from an HTC Magic.
I was really excited about the atrix and xoom but this phone is just great
I've never wanted something so badly as this phone
Its just f&$kng awesome
Every time I feel like settling for another phone I repeat to myself "Good comes to those who wait" and hopefully a good outcome will come for all of us soon.
Especially you UK guys

btt: I check this forum and the google news search every day! There never was a phone which I so hardly wanted to OWN!
BUT, I'll wait for the first REAL Reviews from different Websites and from passionate objective users!
And btw I would prefer to pay only 500€ max.

I expect the price to go down to 500€ until release, some shops certainly will go down but then again I prefer wellknown sellers like Amazon who offer good service in case of warranty and return, i wonder if they would go down to something like 499,- aswell if another shop does (in the last 30 days or so the price went from 599,- to 548,50 which is the right direction but hopefully not all).
Oh and to the Sanyo SCP-8400 - Guy:
It will be a whole new world for you

How will a ROM create a hardware camera button?
I was eager as much before mysamsung omnia hd was delivered ........... and it proved a real beast. an unbelievable phone, with not even a single drawback, expecting the same from s2
Okay, there are two things I need to straighten out with most of you, and that is "2.3 official ROM" and "Multitouch"
An actual official 2.3 Gingerbread ROM? Keep dreaming. Ain't never going to happen. Custom ROM's are the ONLY WAY you'll ever see a 2.3 ROM on these phones.
Multitouch? Sure, change the hardware in the Mini (and Pro)(mostly the digitizer, but could be more) and you can have that multitouch. There was one reason why Sony Ericsson chose NOT to throw in better digitizers on these phones: it's size. Try squeezing two or three fingers on these small 2.6 inch screens and play a game with it. Next to impossible, right? Yeah, there's the answer. If you really want Multitouch that bad, sell that crap phone and buy a ZTE Blade for near 100 bucks.
Read it, understand it and accept.
If you don't know what I mean or what I say here, then don't waste your energy writing a reply. Kids these days..
someone is frustrated and is regreting buying their mini pro?
c'mon man, most people here know why they bought their minis/pros, they are pretty decent phones, in my country it only came to the stores about a month ago (i got mine in april), and its a great offer compared to other phones.
i see you regret you didn't buy zte in the first place. well, those aren't very similar phones (yes, zte is better), so i guess you haven't done a lot of thinking before buying mini pro. so now you're mad cause people ask these things, but not everyone is so informed.
but instead of freaking out, you should have told them that there are several very good working custom 2.3.5 roms that are way better than stock, and are a perfect way to turn a nice phone into an even better one. when i show my friends my phone they ask how i've done, so they start to mod their own phones. a couple of nice vibes is a good way to broaden the android community, and we need that.
no hard feelings man, but i thin you're making an unnecessary fuss...
Why do you need to speak that?! There are too many people happy with their x10 mini (pro), with custom roms the experience feels much better. Why do you speak like that?! If you are furious with your phone, just throw it on the wall and it will break, but Im satisfied with it and I think you should close this thread.

yup....GB officially is NOT comin 2 the little ones!!!...i thrashed SE on their FB page for this and they took down the post within 30 minutes!!! and guess wat, it had more than 1000+ "likes" hits within dat short time!!!!...dey r pulling dere hairs off updating the bigger x10 2.2->2.3->Multi touch -> FB inside xperia and wat not and left us out in the wild just because those di*kheaded morons thought of a sequel ....samsung's service is WAYYYYY better!!!!!
Yes, I must admit, samsung's support is way better than SE
It's obvious because samsung is a giant electronic company compared to SE
I'v been SE fans since their K500i released
And the mini, is not that bad, I buy it because it's fit my needs, it's size
And I too a little bit disappointed because no further support for mini, but fortunately this site is giving me a cure, so kudos to nobodyAtall
And my future phone would be the xperia mini I guess.. well who knows I'll change my mind and pick up samsung's android
We have dual touch in the Mini Pro. 3 fingers on its tiny little screen is just impratical. Its hard enough playing fruit ninja with 2 fingers on it, talk about 3!
Hi everyone! First post so, very excited! This may be a bit long so please, bear with me.
I've been an iphone user for over three years. Love the thing, even though I'm still with a 3GS. It's time to upgrade, either by picking up the next iphone, or by switching to an Android flagship. My closest contact with an android phone has been with my sisters Galaxy mini, which I find unimpressive.
Anyway, I'm growing a bit tired of the lack of innovation from Apple. My current iOS experience is pretty much the same from 3 years ago and, to my eyes, Android has been speeding up incredibly. Apple is just sitting on its sucess, which I find annoying. And that's why I'm considering getting an S3. I know I'll be getting a new phone soon and it depends a lot on what is going to happen at the 11th of this month, with Apple's keynote. They should announce iOS6 and, if nothing seriously impressive comes out of it, then it's it, I'm selling all my istuff (ipad included) and I'm going Android!
That said, if Apple fails me (which I'm pretty sure it will), I'm gonna buy an S3. What I'd like to hear from you ios-to-android switchers is how is it going? Is that a meaningful improvement or just a different way to do the same awesome stuff? Are the apps equally better? Can I do the same stuff that I do on my iphone, or maybe even more?
Am I going to miss iOS? If so, what I'm going to miss more?
And finally, a more general question: Is the S3 going to last at least 2 years? I like to spend money on something as future-proof as it gets.
So yeah, this are my doubts. I'd say there's a 80% likelihood of me going Android in the next few weeks, so I need to get informed. Please inform me!
Cheers! And forgive my average English.
If you still holding on to 3gs, you will have the sgs3 with you when you get buried. It's a massive upgrade from that phone. My suggestions is that you get around and try one. The screen will be enormous when you are used to 3.5" . I always loved my iphone and it's a great phone but it's boring frankly . When your phone gets outdated and no more upgrades is available : you root. Cyanogenmod will make sure you are running latest software some years more.
I switched to an iphone 4 from my galaxy s2 because I missed the "smoothnes" but to my surprise it wasn't that smooth as I remembered .my sgs2 made stuff happen both smoother and faster so I had to switch back again, the sgs2 is a beast and still pretty future proof and sgs3 is that phone on steroids . I have had a lot of phones and tried a lot of different os, knowing now that no phone is perfect or close to bug free..this phone comes pretty ****ing close. It's The Hulk after you've made him really upset..like banging his girlfriend kind of upset.
Last, I welcome you to the world of android. Where you customize the phone to your needs, not settle or accept because it's restrictions .

You may miss iOS... all depends on what you are like as a person. Some people want to have a screen displaying a bunch of apps which they can launch. Simple, no fuss and it gets the job done. For simplicity iOS is a real winner.
Android has more options as I am sure you have heard. I look at this as a massive upside, others (like my mum) don't.
Whether you will miss iOS or not is such a personal thing that only you will know.
I've switched from the iPhone 3GS to the s3. Absolutely loving the android experience so far. I used iPhones since they were first released, and so this is my first Android experience.
Of course there is a learning curve, like with any new operating system. Everyday I'm finding out new things about what my phone can do. But as long as you have some patience the experience can be positive, exploratative one, rather than a negative, and frustrating one.
The only other thing I can think to mention is size. Handling the s3, after having only iPhones in the past is quite hilarious. It took me a while to adapt to the larger size, at first it felt quite cumbersome. However once your used to it, it's a pleasure to handle. I now get a rye smile on my face when I handle my wife's iPhone, because it feels so small and my hand looks giant.
To give you an impression on my current opinion here is my Facebook status from earlier today:
"apple will have to do something VERY special to ever make me use an iPhone ever again. So impressed with my S3 and a. Droid OS".
Hope this helps.

You should find out what the return policy is with your provider. As an example Verizon in the US has a no questions asked 14 day return policy and cancellation of contract. If it's the same with whomever you're with that should be plenty of time to figure out what you want.
I can't answer most of your questions (it's down to taste, after all), but as for this one:

stock android ≈ jailbroken iphone
rooted android ≫ any iphone
For example, on stock android you can already use a custom keyboard (swype, swiftkey come to mind) or a custom launcher (e.g. launcher7 for a windows 7 type "home screen", apex or nova for general improvements on stock, or even espier launcher for an iphone clone). And, of course, you can side-load apps.
With a rooted android, you can replace the rom/kernel itself.

For sure you wouldn't miss anything with regards to the Apps. All are Same and will appear better in a bigger HD Screen.
You can never go back to iOS after using a great Android device unless you are forced to like I am from my work place phone with iP4S. Galaxy mini doesn't do any justice compared to any device ! Do not consider it.
Regarding the resale value of the device after its life time is a tricky question in current situation. Truly speaking a used 3GS now sells 2 times than the SGS and same goes with the iPhone 4 vs SGS2, at-least in Singapore its like that.
I currently use SGS3 and iP4S (Work Phone) and I can understand what you are saying, apple is still stuck with the same UI for the last half a decade and things are too complicated to do with iOS, example to switch on or off wifi/bluetooth /etc.. it takes like 7+ clicks and few scrolls which can be done in just 1 scroll and 1 click in Android ! Its that simple.
For sure you will be pleased and love Android like I did when I came from iOS. Point to be noted is, my complain is only about the ****ty iOS that is stuck with the same look and feel for long long time and not about the Hardware . I still consider iPhone 4/4S hardware as one of the best leaving out the tiny display
My Advice : Do not get addicted to flash ROMs every other day and become a flasaholic. The Stock ROM in SGS3 is super perfect that can run just fine any time than its predecessors.
Welcome to Android.
Well i went from an iPhone4 (32GB) to a Samsung Galaxy S3 and i must admit that i didn't do a bad choice it is so much better compared to the iPhone, i think it is a great upgrade had mine for 4 days soon and i love it.
Backsides of apple:
Unable to use the devide freely as you like to, and it is a closed operation system
to gain something out of it you have to jailbreak it, hated the iTuned and everything that begun with iXXXXX nothing bad about mac computers but that phone sucks.
What i liked about apple: was back in 2010 the retina display which still is pretty amazing and how many apps there is availble but it stops there.
The Samsung:
I like: the big 1280x720 hd ready amoled display and the real BLACK! i like the quick response from the UI (compared to the slow/lagging iPhone especially if you had 1500 pics/videos it got so slow) the freedom of being able to use the phone more freely and it is open source operation system and loads more it is worth every single $
Dislike: The limitations of the camera app, like below 15% you can not start the camera and if your in a call which i am often longer then 15-30min then you might
want to be able to use the camera if im in a call.
And what i hated the most about the iPhone is the antennas on the outside that meant if i held the phone in my left hand i lost the reception! and real issues with bluetooth.
So go and grab your self a new samsung handset you will not get disappointed!
This is some superb feedback, thank you very much!

This is really something I am looking for. iOS just makes me do too many steps to accomplish some very simple tasks.

I like having options. Not having much options is what is making me change my mind. My phone is jailbroken, but still...

It does help, thank you. Some days ago I went to a phone shop to see some Android devices up close and specially to check if the bigger size would be a problem. Well, it's not. I have big hands and only the Galaxy Note felt cumbersome. Everything else was fine, specially the HTC One X whose size I find perfect to my hands. The S3 seems to be about the same.

You should find out what the return policy is with your provider. As an example Verizon in the US has a no questions asked 14 day return policy and cancellation of contract. If it's the same with whomever you're with that should be plenty of time to figure out what you want.

This is some excellent advice that I hadn't remembered before. After reading your post I checked with my provider and was happy to know that they have a 30 day return policy, no questions asked. This is fantastic for someone like me, who needs to use the device for some time in order to know if it's the right thing for me. Thanks!

Rooting is something I may look into in the future. I feel like I need to get my head around the android for a few months, and then... puf, maybe root the thing to get even more out of it. My iphone knows I did this very same thing with it.

Thanks! About the apps, I always had this feeling that android apps were ugly. Now I'm starting to see some truly beautifully designed apps, which makes me happy. I like pretty stuff.
The resale value is one thing I always liked about Apple. Somehow I can sell my current used iphone for about 200€, when I payed 250€ for it 18 months ago, used but as new.

I'm totally with you on this, I hate the damn itunes. It may be great on macs, but on windows? jeez, stupid, ugly thing. If I'm really going Android, something I'm really going to be happy about is finally getting rid of itunes.
This feedback has been great and I have to thank you all. I'd like to hear some negative feedback, something like "oh I had an iphone and got an S3 and I don't like it because of this and that" but, given how this is an android forum, I may not get something like that.
Anyway, for those who are interested, I'll make my decision on the 11th and, upon finally making the purchase, I'll keep updating this topic with my personal experiences. I feel it may be useful for the potential ios-traitors... which is something I am about to become. ahah
I live in Australia and we have UMTS 850 and 2100 so I can use the DNA, J Butterfly or International Butterfly, however I notice all of the developer support going out to the DNA and not the Butterfly. Will the same development work on both, for example kernel and ROM? The support already looks slow enough as it is, let alone none at all if I choose the wrong model! I wonder why there is no Butterfly sub section?
Is development always this slow for this phone or is it because it is a new device?
Depends on a lot of things.
Butterfly is not getting wide spread international release like most HTC phones do just yet. There is big question mark if it ever will. With their financial troubles and pulling out of many markets, they might skip widespread Butterfly launch and just go with M7 global launch.
Either way, DNA makes more sense at this point. Even if Butterfly releases widely internationally, the phone shares almost everything except modem with DNA. So any ROM that is released for Butterfly can and will be easily ported to DNA. If not the one that works for Verizon, then the one like Virtuous DNA+ which is dedicated ROM for 3G HSPA users like you and me.
So getting DNA makes more sense as it is global phone. So you have 2 development channels open. Easy ports of Butterfly ROMs and dedicated DNA development. I am sure most developers who will work on Butterfly in future will release simple port for DNA as it will increase their popularity and they will get more donations with minimal efforts.
And at the moment DNA is getting more development as you said as it released in the US as the only 1080P phone early.
Win win for DNA owners.

Thanks for that. I was at my local shops today about to purchase the Note 2, however it is too much like my last 3 phones SGS 1,2,3 and it was very uncomfortable to handle due to the nature of it's size. I was then looking at the Nexus 4 online and now the Droid DNA. I am having a hard time deciding on 1. I am blown away by all of the development for Nexus 4 and the front bezel looks sexy!. It is really sad to see little developers for DNA! - I am not used to little support, coming from a Samsung. I know for certain if the DNA threads were busier I would not hesitate to choose it over the Nexus 4.
the DNA is as wide as the S3 and taller, if you haven't compared the two yet

I don't mind the size of my S3, however I wanted to try something away from Samsung now. I have been using them since Eclair. Like I said above, the only reason I am hesitant with this device now is it doesn't look to be flourishing in the development community!
I think HTC has become a little bit suspect over the last couple of years and that also worries me. I have owned a HTC Touch Diamond and a H2 (which I converted from windows to Android) and both of these phones overall weren't impressive to me at all. I just really hope if I buy a DNA/Butterfly, I won't regret it or be disappointed. Was anybody else on the fence with this device? if so what do you think now?

Well that is tricky one to be honest.
I have give more than fair chance to HTC over last few years. I had Hero, Desire, HD2, Sensation, Sensation XL and One X before DNA.
The One X I ditched purely out of frustration. It received fair share of development, but even lot of developers themselves were frustrated with S-ON and Tegra 3.
The S-ON blasphemy still lives on till today and that is the biggest caveat I have against HTC and same is the case with lot of developers. They just loathe the fact that you have to go through HTC DEV to unlock bootloader and S-ON putting extra restriction on them and one more step for end users to remember and make sure they dont mess up while flashing custom kernels and rolling back to stock.
The only reason I am even giving chance to DNA is purely because of Hardware. I am not a big fan of Sense either. But it can be refreshing for a while. I went to One X after using 2 back to back Samsung TWUI phones, and for a while it was great to use something else. In long run though that beautiful piece of hardware was nothing but disappointment. But I hope DNA is different. Even if it does not get as much development as Samsung, couple of key devs can make a lot of difference.
I just wish they do come here. We already have few good ones. But their interest needs to last.
In the end you can always ebay the phone if you take care of it properly (cosmetically) and recover large portion of your investment. Specially high end little exclusive device like DNA which is not easily accessible outside US is in great demand outside US.
DNA will never get as much developer support as Nexus 4. Its not happening, neither will it match Note 2 or SGS3 or upcoming SGS 4 for that matter. What we need is just enough developer involvement to address some critical issues or add some really beneficial features to a phone with stunning hardware. This time the hardware is all there. We just need little bit of development. I for one was willing to take that risk when I jumped in. If it works out, well and good. Or it hits ebay in month or two.
Usually it will take couple of months after device launch for developer section to start buzzing on the exclusive devices like DNA.

You raise some very good points. If the Nexus 4 had the same screen, I would not be typing this message. Thanks for your advice! Have you received the phone yet, if so how do you like it? - I understand that Samsung will win with development at this stage and it will take some time for HTC to gain back their audience. I just really hope for the same things you do with development!
I use a DNA on Telstra, am really enjoying it. Once you strip it down and cull the bloat, it goes well. Data on NextG works fine. I got MMS going with a few tricks, too. Happy to help if you decide to take the plunge!

Yes, I got phone few days ago. Been using it for a week or so now. Havent yet completely switched to it due to busy schedule so I can transfer all my data and files to this phone yet but using it daily as secondary phone for now.
I like the phone, the screen, the overall feel. Wish sense animation was little bit faster. Phone flies in apps which is to be expected thanks to the hardware, but sense feels slower than TWUI or AOSP UI. HTC has opted for that smooth transition effect which actually feels slower on such fast device. I am so used to Note 2 flying through home pages and app drawer that this will take some time getting used to. But there is very little wrong with the phone for day to day use.
I actually wish we get good stable and fast AOSP /AOKP release for this phone so I can switch to it. Simply switching launcher does not seem to give the desired effect on this phone.
But it is far from total disappointment. In fact it is good experience so far. Just want it to get little better :good:

If you go into the advanced development settings menu, you can raise the animation speed from 1 to .5 and it makes it more like TW animation speed. :good:
MMS doesn't work outside VZV unless you edit a few things in the build.prop (they blacklisted the 'mms' APN). To do this, you need a kernel with /system write available, so your changes stick after a reboot. You also need to use a third-party messaging app like Go SMS Pro or something.

Ahh cool. I might ask you when I receive my phone. Just ordered it now. Costing me $598 delivered to Australia. It's fully unlocked and comes with an Otterbox Defender case. There weren't many deals going on and it took me a few days to even find this deal! I just sold a Nexus 4 for $550, so this is only costing me an extra $50 and it includes the case, so I'm happy. The phone has HTC USA 1 Yr Warranty. (Luckily for me my mother in-law lives in the US!
How much is the going price on the device outside of eBay? In the states for example.

Outside ebay its $599 + tax + shipping. So a lot more than what you paid. Even I got mine was way less than this from ebay only. Got mine for like 550 delivered. But yes I too had to wait for couple of weeks for right auction and little bit of luck with auction ending late local US time in the middle of night.
Most ebay phones are people who had upgrade option available and got the phone for $199 but decided to make some money by selling the phone on ebay and keep the old phone for another contract cycle.
This is what 99% of ebay deals are for phone like this. So we do save considerable amount by buying from ebay. If you have a look at the seller ratings, you are safe and covered by ebay guarantee which heavily favours buyers. So its pretty safe bet if you take minimal precautions.

I am little bit of phone fanatic. I end up buying almost all high end phones from HTC, Samsung and sometimes some good chinese phones.
At the moment I have Xiaomi MI2, Note 2 and DNA with me. And just sold Nexus 4 few weeks ago, but you already had that so you know how it was.
Xiamoi is on par with DNA as far as performance is concerned. Its blazing fast and thats understandable as it has same chip. And no throttle issues like Nexus 4 on this phone. It just flies out of box. Mind boggling performance. It does out perform even DNA in benchmarks like Antutu as it has 720P screen and not 1080P. But you can feel the speed with this one. Total bang for buck for something I bought for less than $400 shipped. It does run out of battery quickly if you do anything processor intensive so it is mainly used as house phone.
Note 2 is a beast. Its screen is much better than SGS3. But DNA screen looks totally different. 1080P is heaven if you are viewing right content. Sadly somehow you feel sense is not making use of the real estate available. Specially those who have good vision and can live with smaller font or rather smaller icons / more grid lines as an option would have been nice. But thats fine. Nothing major. Sure someone will make a rom that will implement this down the line.
1080P and games that scale properly look super nice on this phone. But playing games with on screen controls is better experience on Note 2 thanks to bigger display. But I dont game much these days, not heavy gaming for sure. Just some 2d time pass games or sudoku, puzzle or jetpack joyride etc..
But the huge battery, and S-Pen make it much better productivity device. And I do have large hands.
I am totally in love with Note 2. I dont think that will change. It is better, more productive device at this stage of its development. But if you have problems with Note 2 size, DNA is definitely next best thing right now.
For development i say buy nexus.I had HTC desire and since then HTC changed, became a locked garden, Devs are moving away from HTC scene. However if you feel the need of some htc sense candy(i sometimes miss it) ,it is another story but i always flash an aosp rom usually so sense is kinda waste for me.Experience also taught me that software support is far superior as opposed to a slight advantage in hardware.Just my 2c though, it is your money and you decide how to us it at the end of the day
If not that why don't you Terry xperia z atm i don't really know about that line of phones but i only hear good things even from our beloved cody back at the sammy forums.

Awesome! I already had the SGS 1 and 2. I then followed suit and bought the SGS 3. The phone was way too similar to the SGS 1 and 2. I got bored of it extremely fast, which was a first for me in a long time. I decided to flash a Samsung based ROM with AOSP apps, which I thought was pretty good for about a day and then flashed Paranoid, CM10.1 and AOKP over the next couple of weeks. I eventually just got sick of the look and feel of the device being too familiar to me.
At this point the nexus was the 1 and only phone for me....... I first thought. After using it for a while it didn't seem like the screen was even any bigger than even my SGS 2 as it loses so much screen real estate because of the OSKeys and it certainly didn't feel like an upgrade from the SGS 3, besides the fact it was extremely polished and fast being vanilla.
However, the thermal throttling and screen size pushed me away (Not to mention I was scared about the resell value if it eventually does come back in stock). So naturally I starting looking at the Note 2 (Which mind you is fantastic, but after using my friends over a weekend, I just found it to be so much like the SGS 1,2,3 in design and feel, with that same familiar Samsung feeling. Also it was very hard for me to handle while doing my day to day tasks. I did have a final play with it at the shops and it really just felt too strange to handle.
I am now taking a gamble on the DNA but oh well, it is selling in Australia for a lot more so I know if I want to resell it I won't lose any money! The screen looks brill and the muscle car chassis is dangerously gorgeous. I have never liked HTC phone after my previous attempts but fk it. At least I can give a complete comparison to others later on
Honestly, all of this fuss just for a phone which I will most likely sell to buy an Xperia Z or another 5"1080p phone by the second half of this year with perhaps the Adreno 330 or perhaps a comeback by Tegra? Who knows what the year will bring. All I know is their is a lot of competition that has yet to arrive from Sony, Oppo, Motorola, Acer, Asus.... and so on!
P.S It was refreshing to actually see some movement in the thread!

For development i say buy nexus.I had HTC desire and since then HTC changed, became a locked garden, Devs are moving away from HTC scene. However if you feel the need of some htc sense candy(i sometimes miss it) ,it is another story but i always flash an aosp rom usually so sense is kinda waste for me.Experience also thought me that software support is far supurior as opposed to a slight asvantage in hardware.Just my 2c though, it is your money and you decide how to us it at the end of the day

Hey bart. Been a while mate. I don't think we have spoken since my fantastic post about the history of CheckROM and it's developers.
As for the N4, Been there already man. I loved the Nexus 4 for that pure clean experience. Above is my reasoning as to why I chose to leave it.

Yeah well the grass is never greener If you read my long boring post above from start to finish you would have seen me mention the Xperia Z near the end of the thesis
I am now again looking at buying the Droid DNA due to being screwed around by previous seller! I wanted to ask this: Everywhere seems to state that the Droid DNA is network unlocked. Is this true? If it is then why are people sometimes stating on eBay that only GSM will work and no DATA outside of Verizon and the US! (I live in Australia and this is obviously important)
I am seriously getting so confused because of mixed seller listings. Some people say it is factory unlocked and some people say it is locked to Verizon. What is the deal? Also if the phone has a bad ESN or they fail to make a payment later on down the track and it does become bad, does this mean it will stop working in Australia or is it solely based around US and Verizon in general?
About the seller on eBay, I have now been refunded my money for my recent transaction. The seller did not mention that the device didn't come with it's box, instructions, charger etc. He also has no intention of mentioning it because he has relisted it without even indicating it. He is just trying to get an international buyer to deal with it is my guess. It was just a handset and a case. Very misleading, I am lucky that I confirmed with him just before he was selling it. It was one of those buy it nows that need to be paid upfront.
Thanks guys
