Maybe this has been covered, but I googled and searched the best I could and I don't seem to see any others talking or affected by this. I just received my Gtab and followed everything from "Nflashing" to upgrading from Stock 1.1 to 1.2 then on to "Honeycomb", even with stock I noticed the wifi is extremely slow when connected to my router, strange thing is I also have an "Elocity A7" tablet that pulls 17-20mb when doing a speed test, the Gtab is lucky if it gets 2mb. For the life of me I can't figure this out and couldn't find anything when I googled it either. Do I have a defective unit maybe???
Dunno, but if anyone has any input, please share.
Sorry MODS, could u please post in the Q&A forums, my bad
Not sure why you are having slow speeds..
Here's my Gtablet running Speed Test at work today..
Test Date: May 24, 2011 10:20:19 am
Connection Type: Wifi
Server: Columbia, SC
Download: 16.44 Mbps
Upload: 18.87 Mbps
Ping: 7 ms
FIXED
Ok, so gotta give big props to my man "roebeet", I had pm'd him to get his opin about it and he told me to play around with my wireless, trying "g/n" settings, well when I looked it was set to "Mixed b/g/n mode" so I changed to "g/n only" and now I back to "flyin high" LOL.
So in closing, I guess always make sure to include your router in your troubleshooting.
P.S. Can't believe I didn't think of checking the router.

For consistency, please use the following test method.
While tethering your phone to your PC, use the speedtest located here: www.speedtest.net
Please post a graphic of your results as Maccaberry has below.
Please only post if you are in a Rev A area.
Note about testing speed...
Just to make it clear, you cannot test the speed of the broadband connection accurately using the phone and Pocket IE. It will not return the correct results!
The reason for this is that the processor needs to perform double-duty in order to load a page in Pocket IE; this means it processes the incoming data and also has to render the page. While the page is rendering, the data has to wait, and vice-versa.
The correct way to accurately test the speed of the data connection is by tethering the phone to your computer and then perform a speed test, through someone like speedtest.net or something like that. This is because the phone only collects the incoming data and then ports it to the USB for your computer to render in the browser.
My results confirm this:
Download Speed using the new ROM:
Pocket IE: ~950Kbps
Tethered: 1550Kbps
The difference is due to the processor not being able to stream all of the data at the maximum speed AND render the page all at the same time.
Hope this helps!
Geckotek,
I agree that the only way to accurately test is via tethered pc. PIE has never given anything like a real number for me.
www.speedtest.net seems to be the best and the one that most posters use as their reference.
Now if you could amend your instructions to use this method we would be onto something.
EDIT: with old radio and rom I get 1400 k DOWN and 120K UP as a point of reference. EV-DO Rev0
From the VZW network side
sitting at the console, from 3.27 to 3.55.04 RNC says session is REV-A for both, BER is better for new resulting in more reliable session, speed is a little better due to the BER (a timer was tweaked in the leaked radio) S/N ratio a tad better with older ROM but if you are in a good signal area then youe EVDO stays up better because the noise ref figure for fallback is set higher, and EVDO speed drops off faster with lower signal, new radio is wayyyyyyyyy better trust me as I see it's impact on the system.
I get about 440Kbps d/l and 104Kbps u/l tehered to my laptop. Seems strange that I can't get better numbers than that with 5 bars sitting in the center of Houston, TX. Certainly we have Rev. A here...
Very good point about the processor guys. I'll make the changes.
I like www.speakeasy.net/speedtest. For my posted results (which are > 1Mbps download, >300kbps upload), I used WMWiFiRouter to tether to my laptop and ran the test out of Firefox 3.0b4 running on said laptop. I believe this should be valid.

Yeah, that's been discussed. The entry is to "Disable" Rev A. So "Enabling" the entry would in theory "Disable" Rev A. So the general concensus is to leave it alone.
Dealing with MS registry entries you find this type of logic a lot.

I'm sure most people know about this, but I'll put it here for posterity's sake.

OK - slightly off topic - sorry - but when I go to speedtest.net it syas I need at least flash player 7.0 or higher. I installed the flash player bundle and thought that would do it. no dice - anyone have an idea what I'm missing?

You are not off topic. In my reference to www.speedtest.net I specifically referred to tethering to the laptop because of the issues with running speed tests on the ppc itself.
Yet another reason that they should change the name from PIE to POS.
While using wmwifirouter
used two different sites
Last Result:
Download Speed: 2235 kbps (279.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 618 kbps (77.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
There is no point in doing this at all. Would you do a speed test on a WiFi access point when you have no idea what other people using the same access point are doing? That's exactly what you're doing with EVDO. You could be sharing bandwidth with 50 other people.
VZW here in houston area
Here is my test I did this morning...
Speakeasy.net/speedtest
2324kbps Down
316kbps Up
Sprint PCS Houston
Rev. A enabled ("Disable" shown in epst)
Rev. A disabled ("Enable" shown in epst)
I have a minimum of 4 bars where I am, jumping to 6 at periods. Any clue why I can't break the 500kbps barrier?
i've searched and searched and can't find a related post to my problem. I have a CDMA touch pro (obviously) running merdins newest (i think) rom and i've tried three different radios. i connect my phone via usb using ICS hacks and using WMWifirouter my connection seems to work great. I go to speedtest.xxx whatever the one is that everyone posts the picture with and i get speeds from anywhere from 1000kb and 1200kb. That seems like the average most people also get, but when i download anything i can only seem to reach 100to 150kb pretty steadily. I also use a download manager sometimes and that has an automatic speed regulator and it shows my max bandwith available and that jumps between an average of 700kb to 1200kb but never gets under 500kb. Now i know its not the sites i'm downloading from because when i am d/ling anything i my surfing is very very very slow so i'm obviously using all the bandwith available. Now is this normal due to it being a cell connection?? if it is than i don't understand why everyone posts their phones internet speed because i could do the same when i know i'm only getting 150kb or so, or is it an issue that other people have and is fixable. ohh and i also had the same issue using the wifi connection thats why i began to use the usb because i thought it might be faster. sorry for the super long message but i would appreciate any help, thankx
ohh i forgot
i don't know if it makes a diff but my service is through sprint. thankx again
EDIT: first off i didn't realize that i could edit my old post instead of making a new one. (i'm new at forums)
for everyone who wasted time to read my thread sorry. i think i figured it out. the speed tests are in kilobits not bytes and that is the issue. i guess i just thought my service should be faster. i've read posts of people claiming to get download speeds of about 300kbs. Still if anyone knows how to increase my speed please let me know. thanks
My wifi tends to drop from a solid connection (50-65 mbps) to a crappy connection (2-5 mbps) no matter what rom I am running. Was wondering if anyone else has this problem? Possible fix?
It will constantly drop data connectivity...market will give error, browser gives error.
Connection starts at the solid levels then within 1 minute or so drops to the crappy level, with excellent signal. that's what makes me really mad..it's got perfect signal and **** connection. any help appreciated.
Hi,
What ROM are you using?
I think you should first check your wireless LAN/router location, modem and LAN setup through yr desktop. Check if it is any enable firewall in yr setup, try to disable it. Test wifi connection using yr laptop, check it any drop or not. Try again at same time using laptop and yr vibrant in several distance from wireless router. Try also WPS if you have it.
If your laptop no problem, and phone wifi drop, you might to try reflashing ROM.
Before that, you may try also Wifi analyser, install it from Market.
Good luck.
no firewall on router. get great signal on desktop(no laptop), great speeds from router on my old g1. only the vibrant. doesn't matter which rom, 2.2 or 2.2.1. they all do it. starting to think it's a faulty unit...
wish my g1 had a decent camera on it, i'd record how fast the wifi drops.
oh, i set up a static IP since posting this..it's helped somewhat with the error boxes poppin up but the connection is still dirt slow.
edit: i'm on stock kb1 w/tigerblood v3 kernal ATM..been on bionix v, most of EDT's releases all with same result..only thing i haven't flased is CM7 cuz it's still an early build. oh and Frost..don't like white so it never made the cut.
Hi,
I think any ROMs have no problem on wifi, except originally a broken unit. I dont know how you flash ROMs, but try to a clean install starting from ODIN and stock vibrant on each flashing.
- Is your wifi secured?
- Do you use internet security on your desktop? Check the firewall or network/LAN setup managed by security package on comp desktop, and allow your new phone device.
Good luck.
All of my devices used to do this until I changed some settings on my router. It was set to only handle 15 devices at a time, so I set it to 50 and I had no more problems. Maybe yours is set to a very low number, I can't remember the exact settings, but hope I helped
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Nope I can handle up to 150 devices in my dhcp client list...not that that really matters seeing as how I got it set on a static ip and its still dropping signal. Thanks though..starting to feel like it's a bad unit..i don't want to exchange it though.its got great gps. Any other ideas??
Edit: forgot the other guy..wifi is secured. Wpa2 personal. No firewall on desktop..wouldnt matter anyways.
Little info on router...linksys e4200 dual band n with the 5 ghz band disabled because no thing on the network usesit ATM. Router is a beast really and performs awesome with every other device in the house.

Sorry if this has already been addressed, but I noticed that I'm getting rediculously slow download speeds.
0.06Mbps down, 1.5Mbps up
I have 100% signal, on a Linksys WRT 310N router. Currently set up using WPA2 - Personal, AES.
I'm going to boot over to WebOS and run the same speed test, then depending on results of that test probably wipe and reflash.
Also - using Alpha 2.1
If this has been addressed before then please leave a link and I'll request a mod delete this post. I did do a couple searches on this forum, I hit the Cyan Wiki, and even checked over at Precentral(where I found lots of WebOS tweaks, but unsurprisingly little information on the android build )
EDIT: Just booted into WebOS and ran the same speed test (speakeasy.net/speedtest) and after running it about 10 times the highest download speed I was able to obtain was 1.4Mbps, with the average at 0.7Mbps. A little better then the Android counterpart, but still REALLY slow. Same test from my computer/iPad/cell phone yields 18.5-26Mbps, so I know the router and interenet are running reasonably fast.
I do have the Unthrottle patch installed from Preware.
If anyone has any ideas I would truly appreciate it. I'm going to go ahead and do an uninstall and full wipe of the devices, right down to doctoring webOS.
I hope the reset fixes it. I do not experience this issue on webOS 3.0.4. I also have the unthrottle patch.
Doctoring and reinstalling has fixed whatever was messed up. Perhaps I installed a bad patch or something, but in any event the issues resolved. average 20Mbps up and 3 down.
congratulations! i'll keep this in mind if i ever run into any similar problems! Thanks for posting back.
I have the same problem, did you have to install CM7 again after doctoring? I'm new to this.
Hi Folks,
Had my TFP201 for about 4 weeks now (C3 preloaded with ICS 4.0.3.15)
Updated to .21 standard...
My WIFI has been VERY unstable compared to iPad/iPhone/PC's on the network...
Yesterday night i decided to have a go and changed my encryption settings on the AP from WPA/TKIP to WPA2 and "BOOM" !
My WIFI Signal and stability suddenly became strong like hell.... ( i could have up to 35/30 Mbit on the other side of the house..)
Have not had the time to see if this also have any impact on the WIFI/BT issue, but i will try to test this weekend...
So, to those with unstable WIFI : Try to play with WPA/WPA2 or even turn off
to see if this could be a part of the challenge....
This could very well be a router/AP related issue (I'm running on AVM 7390)
Interesting, ill try tonight when I get home....but ill proly have a few maker's marks sooooooo I'm sure someone will beat me to it

I've noticed this and I think I've read it around here on XDA. I have a Cisco AP and when I'm connected with the my Prime it works flawlessly. I also have a Amped Wireless extender all my other wireless devices work great with it except my Prime. As soon as I start transferring files or stream anything it will run for a couple seconds / minutes then drop the wifi and reconnect. Perform the same process using the same files connected to the Cisco AP - flawless. While at work we only have Cisco AP's and NEVER have an issue with my Prime.
I believe the AP can / does make a difference.
Just so you guys are all aware, the only encryption you should use for wireless n is WPA2 with AES.
Anything else and it generally falls back to g speeds.
Also, if your router had a setting for WMM, and "no acknowledgment" having the no ack setting on can cause wifi issues for some devices (my i9000 and wife's iPhone, and my prime drop wifi, for example)
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2
I also have an amped wireless extender. Using it as an extender posed no problems for me besides cutting bandwidth in half which is normal. Using it as an access point negates that issue easily. I have my regular access point and just changed it to suggested setting so I'll see if it does anything.
WPA2/AES is faster and also more secure than WPA2/TKIP. TKIP generally had broader support on older equipment, but it's hard to find new devices that won't support AES. I've seen TKIP used in combination with various certificate and authentication protocols for large networks, but for home use, stick to AES.
