[Q] Help! HD2 gone to default after softreset. - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I was unable to find any thread speaking of my problem.
I made a softreset to my HD2, little red button on the back, this morning, and while loading, on the orange Windows screen it was saying "performing the phone for first use". I waited for a little while, and as it was taking too long and kept loading and loading, I took the battery out and removed the SDcard from the phone. After that it loaded pretty fast but now the phone looks like at the day of purchase.
It doesn't load or show any of the programs installed, contacts, messages. Nothing.
But through the file explorer it shows that all the old files are there. I mean the photos, program files and so. I don't know where the contacts and messages are stored.
It looks like the phone has the files but doesn't use them.
How do I make the pone go back to the files, and run all the soft?
Where are the Messages and the contacts are stored?
Please help me.

Messages and Contacts are stored in the Outlook database.
Try backing them up using PIMBackup, then hard reset your phone and restore it.

If you could just be more specific.
Where do I find Outlook Database? Can I still back them if they already don't show in my phone?

I assume you mean that your programs and information are on the SD card, since it appears that your phone did a hard reset, which clears the internal memory. The programs won't work because WM requires one to reinstall the programs in order to build the registry entries and copy any needed files to the \windows directory on the phone.
Your data files on the SD card should be fine.
The pocket outlook information is stored in the pim.vol file in the root directory, but if it hard reset those files are gone unless you backed them up. I use MS MyPhone, which automatically syncs my stuff every night at 2300.
After you get any files off of the main memory (if possible), remove the SD card and do a real hard reset - by removing the battery while it was doing initial setup, you may have stopped the OS from installing needed support programs.
Good luck, and be sure and come back and let us know how it is going.

You seem to be right, as on the machine itself there are no files later then the begginning of 2010.
Is it possible that the phone made a hard reset by itself?
Does it mean that there is no way to restore the lost data?
I have made a backup in RescoBackup a couple of month ago, but I added a lot of new numbers to contacts during the last two weeks.
Is there a chance they were saved on the SD card?
I have a pim.vol file, but how do I check if it has the right data in it? in wordpad it shows jibrish.
Thanks in advance.

Unless you backed it up to the SD card, to MS outlook (via Activesync) or to some online backup, sorry, it is gone.
If you have a pim.vol file from before, just copy it to the root directory of the phone (not the SD card). Note that you will ALWAYS have this file in the root directory; it is automatically generated on a hard reset. You will need to have a copy that was backed up.
I highly suggest that you take a couple of moments and make a backup plan for the future. Your phone may have a hardware issue that caused the hard reset; it is not easy to get the HD2 to hard reset, and it should never do it automatically. So you may find yourself looking for those backup files again.

Well, big thanks to all who tried to help.
My phone probably did a hard reset by itself. Something to be noted by HD2 owners.
Lucky me, I made a backup a month ago with Resco Backup v. 2.01. I have to say that the software didn't work at all as expected.
It froze every time I tried to restore the phone data. So I restored it in small portions.
And in about an hour I got my phone back (as it was a month ago).
After all big thanks to RescoBackup tool too.
Good day to everybody.

PIM restore without backup..?!?!

Dear folks,
I've got a major problem and I hoooooope there is a solution to it..
My tytnII froze when I tried to delete an appointment.. Therefore I had to do a hard reset and now I've lost all my contacts, sms etc..
I tried to find a software which can get the pim.vol file back but until now I didn't encounter any..
I dont have a backup, which is stupid, I know..
I've also thought of a solution.. For windows you've got recovery software like RecoverMyFiles.. Is there a way to connect your phone to your pc and make RMF see your phone as a removable disk or something similar..
Greets..
AhmetK
I don't think it's possible since the memory is wiped.
Good bye sms and tweaks.
For PIM... Well, if you are using ActiveSync with your PC, you will be able to get back all your contacts, appointments. Otherwise, all is lost, I am afraid.
+1
if no backup = lost
if no sync made = lost
if you have made sync, beware to check the direction of the sync ! else you will wipe out on PC too...
for future, use PPCPimBackup : www.dotfred.net

[Q] Restoring apps

Hello, after rooting and attempting to flash ClockworkMod on my LG Optimus 2X (P-9999DW), I got stuck in the endless reboot loop, so I had to do a hard factory reset. I lost all my apps, but I had previously moved the contents of my phone's internal SD card (totaling 647 MB) to a folder on my Windows 7 machine. I'm really new to Android phones so I didn't know that one could back up apps through Titanium Backup. When I move the contents of the file to my phone, the phone doesn't recognize any of the old apps I had. I still have the 'Superuser' app from root, though. I had a couple of games with full save data in my 'backup' folder too. I'd love to get them back on my phone somehow.
Is there any way to view my app history from my Gmail account so that I can download them again manually? Or is there some program I can use to put the apps from the backup that I saved on my computer back on my phone? Please help a silly noob out! Thank you.
P.S. Ever since I did the hard reset, my phone's SIM card isn't showing up. Should I call my mobile service provider, or is it just a technical issue? Please answer!
TitaniumBackup should solve it...
maybe under me smarter,heuheuheu...

[Q] Urgent Help needed (deleted apps)

I have a problem that is causing me a lot of stress and have been unable to think of and find a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Today a friend of mine was looking through my phone and commented at how my internal storage was almost gone. He said that he could free up some space and so I obliged, as he knew his way around phones quite well. He was looking through a folder and commented that there were some .apk files that could be deleted to free up space. Thinking they were files I had gotten from downloads, I said it was OK to delete them. This was my mistake, as I should have asked where exactly these files were. He deletes the files and my internal storage frees up a few dozen megabytes. This is where everything went to hell. As soon as he finished deleting those .apk files applications start force closing one after another. Thinking it was a glitch he shuts down and restarts the phone. Upon restart, I find ALL my applications gone. The icons are gone and when clicking a spot where an application used to be, it says application not found.
My phone is rooted using DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit.
I HAD Titanium Backup (root) installed before this mess started.
I HAD rootexplorer installed as well.
Upon further investigation, my friend told me that he had deleted these .apk files from the phone memory under a data folder. He couldn't get more specific than that. He accessed these files through rootexplorer.
I seriously don't know what to do and am about to cry.
I thought that by reinstalling google play and titanium backup I'd be able to restore these applications but I can't even install the downloaded .apks from the internet. Tried putting it on my SD card and opening it but it doesn't recognize any program to install. I thought of using the Sony Ericsson PC Companion to install the .apks but don't know how my phone will be affected since it's been rooted using DooMLoRD's method.
Someone please help. I'm still a newbie with all of this and don't really know what I'm doing. Searches for similar problems on the internet haven't proven useful at all. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thank you
Okay. You need to loose all your data. Take back up of contacts. It should be possible with the stock contacts app. And your msgs if you want.
Then do a factory reset. You will need to download your apps all over again. And if you had taken back up using titanium backup, you will be able to reinstall titanium back up after the factory reset. And you can restore things.
Thanks,
Rick

Your solution worked. Lost some data restoring a Titanium backup a couple days old but it's better than having everything missing. Thanks!

Couple of questions on Resurrection Remix JB 3.06

Hello.
I just replaced my old Gingerbread by GT-I9100 Resurrection Remix JB v3.0.6[04-09][AOKP JB](AROMA+OTA) using the suggested 'extended steps' and selecting its default settings.
I did this after taking full app+system data backups with Titanium 5.5 and EFS backup with EFS Pro.
The system restarted just fine and looks pretty spiffy.
I tried to restore back my data and that's where I got stuck.
USB debugging shows as checked but Titanium keeps asking for it. EFS Pro is also having problems with it.
If I disable it, EFS Pro complains. If I enable it, EFS Pro runs at full processor load trying to initialize without ever managing to do so.
Titanium on the other hand, refuses to find the data it had saved earlier. They are both on the phone itself and in a laptop. It only shows the new 4.1.1 applications and I see no way to point it to anything else.
Is it a matter of version incompatibility or something else?
Do I have to install some extra mod before these two work?
Thanks in advance.

1. After enabling USB debugging, just reboot once. Although in JB, titanium backup doesn't require USB debugging, in order to function properly.
2. Goto Settings - Apps - All - superuser - force stop and clear data. this ensures next time you run those apps, they ask for Su permissions again.
3. Manually tell Titanium backup the location of your old backups.
How?
- Run Titanium backup
- Press menu button, Select Preferences
- Select Backup folder Location (under Backup Settings)
- Browse to the location of your old backups and select use current folder, when you are done.
Notes:
A). Ensure your old titanium backup folder is still present on your phone's Internal/External SD.
-Use a file manager to confirm this.
-If your old folder is missing or empty, copy it back from your Pc and try the third step above again.
B.) Your internal SD is the location always shown by default. Your external SD is located in
/storage/sdcard1 Or in /mnt/emmc
C.) Please only restore your apps only with titanium, don't restore their data. This is to only ensure maximum performance and stability of your new ROM.
Problem solved!
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII
Thank you much Jokesy.
I tried to follow your instructions and came up with some completely different problem right after the reboot in step 1.
My unlock popup doesn't come up.
Instead I get a message on the bottom of the screen:
"SIM card is locked. Emergency calls only"
The battery is full, the signal level is at zero, and I find myself inaccessible when I try to call my cellphone.
I can still run CWM but don't see any relevant options.
Removing/reinserting the battery didn't make a difference. I haven't tried installing some other SIM card yet.
Update: I tried another SIM card and it gets into the phone. My standard card still doesn't.
How did that come up out of the blue? And how do I get around it? Do I have to redo the ROM installation?
Thanks.

that another SIM you used, does it belong to the same network as yours?

It's the same SIM I was using before.
Situation has improved in the meantime.
I left the phone without the SIM card and the battery for a few minutes and then tried with a dead SIM I had around.
It got in with no problems and I managed to restore the apps as per your instructions (but see below).
I also set it to ask for a pin code instead of swipe.
At this point I rerun EFS Pro. It gave some sort of error during intialization but it started up and I restored the saved EFS settings (that seems to have done the trick with the signal).
I powered off, replaced the dead SIM with my working one and restarted.
Back to the 'SIM card is locked' and a dial pad on the screen. Entering my code, didn't remove it. But I now had a full signal.
By hitting the buttons randomly, I eventually got an overlaid message about the Nova launcher not starting up or something and should I wait (it was a bit unreadable). I told it to wait and the system started up right away.
It looks like the 'SIM card locked' message is triggered by some delay in starting up the lancher. Maybe some timer fires up.
The final problem with the Titanium restore, is the contacts list.
It refuses to restore my contacts.
I pointed it to the proper folder where the contacts backup is along with the apps (I can see the file and a hex editor shows my contacts in it) but it never shows them as a restore option in the list (they are dated 9/9/2012 and I only see the default contacts file created by the new ROM (which has only me and a couple of others from my Google account).
Is it a bug/conflict in Titanium or some esoteric trick is needed?
Thanks so much again.

1. Some people have reported entered enter pin issue, after flashing JB ROMs.
2. You must be kidding me if you think Titanium will restore your contacts from Gingerbread to an AOSP based Jellybean ROM.
They had some better options than titanium in backing up your contacts.
1. Exporting your contacts to SD.this one is simple and doesn't require you to download anything.
2. Using free apps like contacts backup & restore.
3. Merging & syncing your contacts, with your Google account.
My advise:
- backup your present ROM,
- flash a stock based 4.0.3 custom ROM
- Restore your contacts
- backup your contacts with the options i listed above.
- Restore your ROM via CWM recovery
- Restore your contacts.
Done
It will only take few hrs, but you will get your problem solved.

OK, I'll try this and report back.
This (2) is annoying though.
It's just a SQLite database. If they can backup JB (therefore they know the contacts format) they should be able to restore anything back to it.
Otherwise it defeats the purpose of using a database for backup.
Oh well. I have some restoration to do
I must say I never expected such a mixup with the upgrade but at last, it seems to be on the right track.
I followed your last instructions, reinstalled my old XXKI3 ROM, restored and made a couple of backups of my contacts.
I restored the backed up JB 3.0.6, rebooted and imported the contacts, but in the process I lost the signal again (wi-fi was OK).
So EFS Pro back to the rescue, or so I thought.
I tried importing the saved EFS folder from the old XXKI3 but EFS Pro had a problem now mounting the /efs so nothing happened.
I even installed KTool at this point, renamed the EFS Pro image to efs.img, and tried loading it. I can't remember if it also gave me a mount /efs error but I still had no signal.
Trying to go back to the old XXKI3 with Odin, it gave me the same /efs problem so I didn't have a signal even in the old version.
Then I found out about GSII_Repair.
I got it from the market, run option 1 (save existing efs), then option 2 (make /efs writable) and rebooted.
Back with the signal again (but with some different IMEI). But it worked just fine. It seems option 2 doesn't just make it writable but it also loads up some default working files.
I did the whole cycle again, upgraded to JB and all's fine.
EFS Pro can restore /efs now but it loses the signal, so it's back to GSII_Repair to restore it along with the wrong IMEI.
All in all a good exercise.
Hopefully I'll be able to reset the IMEI back to what it was (or find a way to convert the saved img to the actual files and maybe do the IMEI fix manually -- I found this thread that might help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264021 )
The problem can be considered as successfully completed and I have no words to thank you enough Jokesy.
Much appreciated for your help.

Titanium Pro: Cannot restore data, just endless spinning circle

Hello, I’m happily using Titanium Pro for a couple of years now but this week I’ve stumbled upon a big problem.
I’m using a LG G4 with LineageOS 14.1. Backed up all my user apps to do a system upgrade to a newer version of 14.1 (and eventually 15.1). I’m using Titanium with encryption with a passphrase and in the past this setup has worked fine for me. Backup is stored on a MicroSD card, tar.bz2 compressed.
I have wiped my Data and internal storage and flashed the new ROM (which works). Installed Titanium Pro, found the backup folder etc., alright. But then my apps were not reinstallable from my list, the restore button was missing. Further, they only have their developer names like "org.videolan.vlc". Okay, checked the backup folder, there are *apk.bz2 files for each app which extract nicely and I’m able to install them the manual way. Then, a restore button appeared (the regular app name too), "Data Only", yes, please… And then I got "Restoring Data" and the spinning circle followed by "?" (an actual interrogation mark). This never ends, I have to force quit Titanium and nothing gets restored, apps even fail to start. :/
This is a pretty bad condition, I was relying on this backup solution for a lot of configuration mess, not to mention my Google Authenticator entries and so on…
I have tested another ROM and even a Lineage 15.1 (Oreo) ROM but this situation was all the same :/
Tried with both LineageOS Su and SuperSu with the same results.
In panic, I’ve found a PHP script which can decrypt my backups and it accurately did so. I then have transferred my decrypted tar.bz2 files back to my phone (I have still a backup of all encrypted original files) and tried again, but with no more luck. So, with or without encryption, I can’t restore my backups. But they are all ok, I can check the archives and poke in their folders, it’s all in there…
Tried the alternative "app processing modes" indirect and interactive with no other results (seems to me they are only relevant for APK installs anyway).
I hope very much that someone here can help me. I’m attaching a logcat log in which I try to restore data for an installed app. In the screenshots you can see (1) the apps list without proper names, (2) an app info dialog without restore button and (3) a data restore attempt after manually installing the APK (or via Google Play, tried both).
I don’t think I will ever get a response by the developer, so this forum is my last hope! :fingers-crossed:
I have found the problem and a workaround: Apparently, Titanium couldn’t read from my SD card. But still sort of, don’t ask me. It listed the developer names of the apps like you can see in my screenshots but could not actually access the files although it had "Android 5+" document picker permission for the SD card. Mega strange and much frustration. I fixed this by copying my backup folder to the internal storage and changing the backup folder to the new location in Titanium, voilà, restore worked again.
Thanks a lot for all your self-sacrificing help!
