Is there a handy guide to compiling from source for X10? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would very much like to compile AOSP from source using Z's sources (just a learning experience really)
I see lots of guides for other phones but none for ours (or am I missing something obvious (I did search).
Cheers for any answers.

Considering you can't manage to post a question in the Q&A section, I suggest you start by getting familiar with searching.

10 Posts first....

Am I understanding this correctly? I need to post 10 times in General or Q/A before I can post in Development thread?
I don't have any Q/A posts to create other than this and I don't have any general questions.
All I wanted to do was post to a thread that the Kernel is running great and no issues so far.
The only question I have is the following:
Should I post then new posts that are useless to get my count up
or
Post back to this thread I created 10 times?
I am leaning toward the latter but before I do I want to make sure I do not get anyones panties in a bunch. If this is an issue I'll just leave it as is and stick to reading.
If you just wanted to thank the dev who made the kernel, you could always just click the thanks button.

Well yes but wanted to report my success and setup as well.

From my understanding of this forum, this isn't like other forums where you would post all questions and comments that are related to development in the development section. Since this is xda-DEVELOPERS they seem to assume that all questions are going to be related to development.
So all regular comments go in the General section, and all Questions go in the Q&A section. I believe they want you to post in the dev section only if you are developing something (a kernal, a rom, a mod like CWM).
If you want to report success on a specific rom or kernel, couldn't you just hit "reply" in the thread for that kernel? That's what I usually do.
Also, this will probably keep you from getting griped at by lots and lots of wannabe moderators (in addition to the real moderators).
Yea I know how u feel I'm on number 4 I think so this will be 5 half way there.

Questions belong in Q&A. Questions/problems on a specific ROM/KERNEL/MOD in the development forum belong in the thread related to what you have the question/problem with, not in a new topic. The development forum is for releases of stuff only, along with discussion in the same thread about said releases.
thanks for the clarification. one of these days i will get my 10 post in to thank all the hard working developers

Same here I was going to post in the developers kernel thread to provide feedback as it was new and they look for feedback.
This rule I can understand for new posts but for replying to existing posts I don't understand other than the fact you get a lot of people that post in wrong places all the time. However this will happen with this rule in place or not as they can reach ten posts pretty quickly.
Either way just found it an odd rule. Some forums do a "you must be a member for X days before you can post". This rule allows new members to do reading before they just start posting all over the joint. That one I understand.

Devs do check out the Q/A and general section too, so you dont have to post in their thread if you have a problem.
One good thing regarding the 10 post is that people wont post a thread with a question in the development section. A lot of people who accidentally post there says that their question has to do with development, and so they decided to post there instead of Q/A or general section. If people with a lot of posts still does this, by accident or not, imagine how much work mods will have to do if anyone can post there and is new to the forum.

Which thread should I read to move to bootloader 1.2 and some Honeycomb?

Ok, I'm lazy and I admit it. I've gotten behind on all the threads so rather than try and read every thread, can someone just shove me in the right direction?
I want to move to some verion of Honeycomb. My GTab has CM 0.8 and VEGAn-Tab with the 2.6.32.9-clemsyn-00001-g6e47897 kernel.
Which thread(s) should I read in order to properly move my GTab to a newer rom?

You need code yellow from the start here section.

Also, just fyi this is best suited for Q&A section.

You've now admitted that you're lazy, and that you have trouble comprehending forums. You posted a question in the development section, that contains at least 3 threads regarding Honeycomb roms, yet you say you want somebody to point you to a thread that will help you?
Which thread(s) should I read in order to properly move my GTab to a newer rom?

Well, you're in the development section already, so I suggest that rather than just clicking on "post new thread" that you read the existing ones. There's illuminate, BOS, and the 1.1 version of BOS. On second thought, PLEASE stay away from "some version of honeycomb." ALL OF THEM ARE BASED ON AN ALPHA ROM. This means that they are not intended for daily use. Yes, you may get lucky and not have any problems, but some things do not work, some things only half work. Some things simply WON'T work. If you haven't researched enough prior ot asking this question, then I find it hard to believe that you will even read the entire post for the rom you are thinking of using. Not doing so will only lead to problems. Problems that you will bring here, and expect people here to bail you out of.
If you check out Goodintentions "G-Tablet for dummies" website, I suggest that you pay close attention to his disclaimer page...essentially written by your's truly.

SGS2 ATT Official Stock ROM 2.3.4

Hi,
I have been searching the forum for ATT Official 2.3.4 stock ROM. I am new to Android and planning to put in a Custom ROM in my SGS2. But before I do that, I wanted to have the Official ATT 2.3.4 ROM so that in case any issues I can flash that back. Also I did read about keeping the flash counter intact. I primarily want to be prepared before I start with it. Please share if there is a link available.
Thanks
Seriously? The Development forum is only 4 pages long and you're too lazy to even skim thread titles there?
I suggest you go back and read the XDA rules again. Search before posting.

I was looking through the development forum as well and did find out there were some ROMs which were already rooted. I was looking for a unrooted ROM and maybe would have missed when I was looking through. That does not mean I am lazy... I am new here and did ask for help after trying!

Your reactive comment is really uncalled for. People are here to help, and they do not get paid to be here, but some find it a little tiring when people appear to ask questions before they even look for the answer.
I understand that to a new person, sometimes you don't even have a point of reference to know what you are looking for. What you need can be found in the development forum as "Unbrick/return to stock by Entropy512."
Also refer to the sticky topic "Library" in the development section, and the sticky topic "FAQ" in the general section.
Edit: OK I see you removed your reactive comment, so I removed it from the quote also.
My bad..sorry about the reactive comment.
I am a new user to Android and just moved from iPhone. I do appreciate the DEVS work and understand it is an extra responsibility for you.
I had rooted and unlocked my SGS2 but being extra cautious not to brick it when flashing the ROM. I maybe should have read through all the posts irrespective of the title
Thanks Guys.. I got the thread.. I will pick it up from there

If we spoonfed every new person that comes here to XDA we wouldn't have enough room for actual development dude. So what you are suggestion is basically ridiculous. I want to come here for development. Not a bunch of links and "how to" posts. Searching is a good thing.

I tried searching, but a lot of times, its confusing on which Rom is actually the stock version which would return everything as before.
I looked at restoring the phone thread and couple of others which also say they are stock rom, hence the confusion.
There is no point in fighting. I got my answer, so its ok if people got mad at me for asking a question. They will forget about it in a couple of hours, and I will try to search a little more next time.

READ BEFORE POSTING: Android Development Section

!Please read this before posting in the Rezound development section!
I know this has been stated a thousand times before, but the mass number of posts in in the development section that are not development is getting out of hand.
THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION IS FOR DEVELOPMENT ONLY. If you are posting something that others may use regarding development such as a new ROM, kernel, guide, mod, recovery, or tool, it will be posted there. If in doubt, just post in the general section. Our moderator will move the post if it should be in the development section. Please do not post questions/concerns in the Android Development section.
THE Q&A SECTION IS FOR YOUR QUESTIONS REGARDING DEVELOPMENT. If you are going to post a question about development, it goes in the Q&A section. If you have a question about accessories or themes/apps, post your question there if you like. If you have a question regarding a particular part of development such as a current ROM or kernel, you can post in that particular thread to see if you can get some help. So if you are using Ziggy's kernel, you could ask a question in that thread. DO NOT POST A NEW THREAD FOR A QUESTION IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION.
THE GENERAL SECTION IS FOR EVERYTHING THAT DOES NOT FIT INTO THE OTHER CATEGORIES. If you have anything else that you would like to talk about that is not a question, accessory, theme/app, or method of development, you will want to post it in General. If you post a question in General (even though it should go in the new Q&A Section), you probably won't get yelled at. You will, though, if you post in the Development Section when you should not.
Please try to keep the development section clear and clean for the developers who will be giving us amazing ROMs and kernels to play with on our newly rooted/unlocked phones. This will make it much easier for us to find them in the future.
The funny thing is that this thread should actually go in development... And be stickied
I was going to post something similar, but it looks as though I don't need to

Ha, I know it should. But that would be kind of hypocritical. If a mod wants to, they can move it. As long as people read it and don't post in the dev section, I'll be happy
I feel like xda sub forums are lacking in some extra boards. Questions and guides need to be added to all the sub forums.

Yes, some extra boards would be nice. This will have to do for now, though.
I quit posting in peoples threads and just report all of them. I am sick of telling people so I just click report every time. No one will learn man. This thread will be burried too. I PM'ed the MODS to get a possible warning thread before allowing to post in Development. Haven't heard anything back.

Do you know how much more there would be to moderate if they gave EVERY device extra subforums? I think they tend to do a pretty good job of adding a q&a(or whatever is needed) section when it becomes necessary due to a device becoming more popular. I'm betting the rezound will be getting one now that its unlocked and development has taken off.

Yes we need a Q/A thread like the Evo 3D has. Then people can ask questions about development and devs can share knowledge. It would be a really good thing to have. Sorta surprised that this forum lacks a Q/A sub forum.
