So I installed the new ROM today and had no problems at all with the install...but the GPS will not seem to work.
Location services is turned on...and no luck. Both google maps and live search say "Seeking GPS satellite" and nothing happens
How long have you waited? It has taken some time for some folks to get thiers working.
Have you tried another area. So people have had to drive or walk around to get it working.
which rom are you running? ver , alltel , sprint or telus??
i am running telus and cant get gps to work.. may be it works on sprint only and its agps ??
someone gave me the helpful hint of going to my phone settings and changing my location from 911 to location ON
it worked like a charm

that seems to work... its off only by few miles but it works
when i used the GPS it was able to put me in the living room of my house... and then i went to my bedroom and it followed me... scary.... however remember this GPS does use signals from the sky and you should have an unobstructed view of the sky
no problems
i just did my first rom flash yesterday. i had no problems everything works great. i used the first rom that was released not dcd's. i just joined this site, and whats the difference with these that dcd does and the officials? stripped down?
mine doesnt work either i just installed DCD 2.0 Sprint beta rom and the radio and settings are all fine....is it my location?
make sure you change location setting to not be 911 only...from dialer goto menu then options then services tab and "Get Settings" for location setting and choose LOCATION hit ok a few times and voila gps works in gmaps
oh and either put it by a window or go outside for initial connection, may take up to 30 minutes

Another tip from my experience of the last 24 hours getting the new ROM to work; I used sbp backup to backup my device when I switched ROMs, and as soon as I restored it, the GPS stopped working. After a little playing I discovered that some registry setting got restored and that disabled it. I haven't taken the time to try to figure out which one, I just did a selective restore and rebuilt the rest. The point, simply, is that little things like that might throw things off.
Other than that, though, I checked to make sure the External GPS settings had COM4 on the first screen, and google maps just worked... but only after awhile. to start with, didn't work. Now, works great even inside.
Just be patient, play with a few things, and try it when you first flash DCDs new ROM if all else fails to make sure it's not something you installed afterwords that's throwing it off.
Good luck, and thank you to all who have made this possible! this is exciting!
I was having problems with gps but after a hard reset all is good
I also restored a Sprite backup and broke my GPS
I restored a sprite backup and it broke my gps too. i have so many apps installed that rebuilding would take forever. do you have any idea what registry setting might have changed to disable the gps? any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

Verizon TP - Scroslers rom
My phone was working great until the rainbow touch screen issue(again!!!!!). My replacement came 2 days ago. I flashed the new one with the same rom and then used sprite backup to restore my phone to exactly how the old one was.
everything looked good. It was the first time i did a full restore like that and its restored the new phone to the last txt received, email, even saved game state. Perfect....
But GPS isnt working. Ive checked the settings. and i think they are right. I cant fix on anything using the HTC gps tool/google maps/vz nav/live search. not one sat.
Ive re installed the gps fix, still nothing. Anybody got an idea?
Nothing?....
Please help me..
This is the first time that i have had this troublesome phone work the way i want in 3 of them and multiple flashes.
I can now flash and back up with sprite, every thing works great. Someone, please take the time to walk me through my gps issues. no connection at all. Please, ill provide any info. I have htc gps tool wiith baud 4800 com 4. Quick gps,.....it does not connect...
Have you reverted back to stock and make sure everything works then? Upgrade radio? In gps tool update quick gps, slect clear memory, select open let run for 15 seconds then close. Then select warm start check repeat let run for 10 sec then select nav init. Check your sats.
Ive been reapplying the fix a couple times a day and then all of a sudden it started working.

I've been running on this awhile. A few weeks ago, I noticed that my GPS just stopped working. Ie meaning that it was working before, and I made zero changes and now none of the GPS applications can detect that there is a GPS.
I'm looking for the most painless recommendation that I can do to get it working.
A. Do I need to flash a new radio rom and then do another set of the GPSFix using the windows tools again?
B. Do I need to upgrade both the rom and radio at the same time (ugh ...)
C. Is there another reason for the fact it no longer works, such as the IP address changed for assisted GPS or anything and I could just change it?
Anything you can offer would help. I went through a few pages of the 70+ page posts here on these subjects but couldnt find anything relating to prior working phones randomly stop working.
I will say that my friend is also on Verizon, has a mogul, I think he has a similiar radio and firmware and his has stopped working as well, so my guess is something has change carrier side and we're just not in the know =)
Thanks in advance for any points, and no flames for not being magical and finding the right post with the answer already in it ..
I just went through the latest updates to the AGPS article at:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=VerizonAGPSFix
I have updated the IP address to the one listed there (mine was different), and still no luck.
Working now. Had to restart it twice, turn location on and off and on again, and then let it sit for awhile. I just didnt have the patience.
My GPS isn't working, it won't lock on at all. Anybody else experiencing something like this? If so, do you know a fix?

Did you try removing the battery? Do that, and leave it out for about 1 minute. Let it reboot and see what happens.

That did the trick for me as well.
I had GPS issues with EB01 too - I narrowed it down to: if I rebooted with GPS turned OFF it would never get a GPS signal if I turned on via the notification bar. If I went into Settings-->Location & Security and checked "standalone GPS services" and accepted the warning GPS then worked great, locked immediately. But if I turned it off and rebooted again the same issue would occur. I tested this with SC 2.1, SC 2.2, and the stock EB01 ROM. Same behavior every time.
It also seemed like if the phone sat overnight (no reboot) and the GPS was off it would then not see any sats until I went into Loc&Sec again and checked the box there, but I didn't do extensive testing on that.
I never keep my GPS on unless I need it, so this was a deal breaker for me, back to DL09 until the next Froyo build comes out.

That sounds more like a confusion from the DL09 to EB01. Did you wipe your data?
yes, wiped data, cache, and dalvik cache twice each before installing each ROM I tested. Consistent across all three.
Im seeing a decrease after installing the voodoo kernel for eb01. I turned on all 3 gps providers and rebooted and it was a little better. Im just gonna give it time to work itself out.

Thanks for your response. I recently rooted and went to EB01 SC2.2 and have been experiencing GPS issues, and started to try to figure out what makes it glitch so I can have some consistency. Have you found out anything new, or just waiting for next update?
I've noticed that I can only get a gps lock with vzw and goggle location services turned on along with the standalone gps. After rebooting, I have to go into the location settings screen and manually turn on the standalone gps if it was off already (or click it off and then on again). After that my GPS works pretty well.
What I have noticed is now all of a sudden Google Navigation will occasionally say "GPS Signal Lost" while I'm driving which never seemed to happen before prior to DL30/EB01. If I open GPS Status immediately after I hear that, half the time it's still connected to several satellites so I don't really know what the issue is there.

No, I gave up on EB01 until the next formal update/leak is released. Between that GPS issue and the battery life seeming significantly worse in my SHORT trial of EB01 I decided to go back to DL09 and wait.

Interesting, thanks for confirming that I'm not the only one who has had this same issue. Most people have just dismissed what I've reported without trying it saying "EB01 is the b3st w1nnar why do you turn off your gps that's st00pid".

Its the unfortunate way AGPS works. You can download GPS status & toolbox from the market. This will (upon startup) connect and download the most recent orbital GPS data providing a fast lock.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
Two quick notes:
1) If you are running SuperClean, the VZW location services setting does absolutely nothing. It is only used by Verizon apps (i.e. VZ Navigator). Google Maps is not able to use the information obtained by VZW AGPS. The entire service has been removed from the ROM.
2) The dropdown gps button is virtually worthless right now unless you leave google location services enabled all the time. There are multiple ways to turn on the GPS through the OS code, and the current implementation causes GPS lock to take nearly a minute longer than if you were to go into the Settings menu and turn it on. At some point, someone will probably mod the drop down to emulate the same method as the settings menu.
That being said, from inside my house, with all my AGPS data cleared, on a freshly cleaned and flashed phone, I can get a fix in less than 3 seconds, accurate to 20 meters without having location services turned on, using only standalone GPS data. The trick is to turn it on from the Settings menu, not the dropdown.
Hello,
I have a SG Ace with the CyanoGenMod 7.1 installed.
The GPS only gives the position sometimes. I have tried GMaps, Navigation, GPS test plus and GPS status and none of them work properly.
Actually, only Navigation has worked twice and when it does, the rest of apps work too (just for a limited time).
It takes ages to work and the problem is not finding the satellites since I detect (with GPS status and GPS test plus) 6 to 10 of them. It seems like it can't process the data and calculate the coordinates.
Any idea of what could be the problem? Have you heard of same problem in others SGA with CGM7? Any solution?
Thank you very much!
PD: I haven't tried the GPS with stock rom but since it has work twice with CGM7.1 and detects the satellites I think we can discard that the GPS is broken. It is more like bad configuration.
EDIT: when I download the A-GPS info I NEVER get a satellite. This maybe a symptom of something.

Now we have a problem. I have tried almost every trick and nothing worked. I can't believe we are the only people having this trouble, there must be someone else.
Does anyone know how the GPS works? What is the algorithm? We should be able to find where the problem is located.
My GPS can find the satellites (from 6 to 10) even inside of buildings (2-5) and have worked twice, only twice but it went okay. Usually, it doesn't give me the coordinates, as I said, this only happened twice.
I think the error could be related to the next step, once it has located the satellites, what does it have to do? Synchronise with the ntp servers?
Also we can try a personalized gps.conf config file because the others below haven't worked.
I hope someone understand the GPS process better than we do and can help us.
Thank you all.
I provided 2 sets of gps.conf and secgps.conf and both also didn't work for you?
My problem is similar.I can't get any satellites until I reboot.even after reboot, it doesn't lock even after having more than 10 satellites.I have to restart the GPS status a few times before it locks

Not sure if you have the latest modem/radio. Flashing the latest might help if that's the case.

Finally getting very quick fix times (inside the house) by following instructions in this thread:

I think using Assisted GPS was the key though.
With assisted GPS, it is expected to have much faster lock

I have tried almost every gps.conf in the forum and I haven't fixed the Ace yet.
However, I discovered two things:
1) If you reboot the phone with the "GPS Active" option ticked and reset the AGPS data (with GPS-Status) you always get locked.
2) When you get locked as I said in 1), it always refresh the coordinates once per 30 seconds (a normal GPS do it in once per second, checked with a stock galaxy s2).
The 30 seconds refreshing is very suspicious, like a wrong value in a configuration parameter. Any idea?
I think the problem is in the cyanogen, remember this is a ported mod from galaxy s to galaxy ace so it was not originally programmed for this phone.
Good information, I suspect it's due to cyanogen too. Can't wait for the official cyanogen. I hope it will fix the GPS issue. It's annoying sometimes....

After trying all the possibilities:
- Installing stock (gps-ok) and restoring my cm7 backup NOT WORKING*
- Installing stock and cm7 from new NOT WORKING
- Installing different stocks versions WORKING*
- Installing mods (gingerreal....) WORKING
- Trying almost every fix with cm7 (gps.conf, fasterfix-apps...) NOT WORKING
After all, the GPS HAS NOT WORKED EVER* with cyanogen mod 7.1 RC1 in galaxy ace.
So I just got back to stock, rooted and reinstalled apps, configs, etc.
I have something to say: if GPS doesn't work to anybody with CGM7.1, this MUST BE in the specification rom page because for many people (like me) the GPS related apps represent a high percentage of use. People should be warned about this issue in order to install or not the rom.
Thank you all, you have been very helpful, as always in this forum.
(*) normal working means <20s to lock, refreshing every second, even when you turn the gps off and on again...
