ROM Usage! - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Friends,
I have flashed many ROMS till now and im currently using CM V.6.
Its a very pretty good rom but i like the camera functionality in the stock 2.1 ROM.
I feel like reverting back to it but i play a lots of games and stuff and install many apps which is impossible to move in stock 2.1 to SD card.
I tried using link2sd and app2sd but i didnt get them right...everytime i try to configure, they give me error that my mmc is not partioned properly.
Pls post me a guide to properly partition my mmc so that i can revert back to my favorite stock 2.1 and move the apps i install.
Plz..plz...plz...

use titanium backup and back up your games, then restore them on your new ROM

oh sorry, you are worried about the phone's memory being used up?
Sent from my X10 TripNMiUI using XDA Premium App

Yes....the reason i use a custom ROM is due to memory issue.

Unfortunately, you can't usr apps2sd on a 2.1 rom. But I think you can add a few lines into the build.prop to force install apps into the sd card.

Can you let me know what lines and where i shud add those to builp.prop

I am pretty sure you can't app2SD in 2.1 but, who knows

I'm not sure what those lines are but I'm sure it's somewhere in this forum.

A rom that support all app on sdcard and have good performance ?

Hey,i need a rom with support for all apps on sdcard and good performance for Lg p500. Which room is recommended for my criteria?
Maybe void/devoid would fit your needs...

All apps that have Darktremor A2SD.
Like people already said there, void currently is the best choice, fast ROM + a2sd.

i tried void and megatron... after all im using megatron

ModInstallLocation will move almost every app to a2sd. Currently I'm using it and can't complain

You can also try Nessy, its same like megatron rom but updated to Android 2.2.2.
I have tried almost all ROMS here ... ONe word. LOLv1.2 rules all
is there a rom that has no force closes....n lags........im using CM7..n im really pissed at amount of FCs it has.......n really laggy as well...i dont mind froyo...jus need something stabe with NO force closes n NO lags..
To be honest, I love the stock 2.2 V10B. I rooted it and installed Move2SD Enabler and moved all the apps to the SD (Except the widgets) and I currently have about 155 apps and about 60Mbs free on phone memory.
I prefer this because the Iraqi ROM I am using has perfect arabic language that no stock ROM provided.

void ap2sd creates the app folder symlink on sdcard. That way all apps go on sdcard. There is a catch though. The phone will be stuck in boot loop if booted without sdcard. If that is fine with you, then go for void echo.
I use Nessy Fenice

[?] Miui vs. touchwiz

I'm currently using simply honey 4.0 rc3 and I've always heard good things about miui but it sounds very difficult to install. I have gb boot loaders so I'm not sure how to install it since they're aosp. Another thing is I've heard miui had inferior battery life to touchwiz roms so can anyone share any advice?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
If u flash with gb bootloaders the external sd wont mount no big deal but I quickly grew accustomed to MIUI because its so customizable and I hated touchwiz and as for battery I flashed the glitch kernel and undervolted and I got about 12 hrs with moderate use and my battery was at 61% but I guess battery varys from person to person
Sounds good which miui and how do I backup my efs
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
you can always just flash the froyo bootloader if you switch to miui and you won;t have the external sd problem

Yeah but the complex and tedious work to test a rom just seems a little out there so I wanted to know is miui really worth the big amount of risks I'm happy with my current rom but I've heard good things about miui
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Tedious? all you do is put it on the root of your int sd card and flash it...then odin back to stock if you want to go back to Touchwiz based roms.

Why would you want to do that, you can just restore the backup.
Dont forget the backup holds lots of personal info on it, so you dont want to share it....
Just curious as to why you would want to do this?
The data portion contains sensitive info right??? Not the system.img isn't it
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I wanna make my own Rom and share it with ppl... I've added toggle panel to notification bar, changed animations in framework-res, changed icons in systemui, did some build.prop tweaks, some out-of-memory manager tweaks, took some apps from the arc s firmware, removed some preinstalled apps and added some apps to system partition itself (like browser replaced with opera, titanium backup included in system partition, applied adblocker...) and many other things.... I hope that qualifies me to call it my *own* ROM????

Oh ok,
You need to use sdk and pdk software to make your own roms, I am sure its much easier that way.
Just google them and download
PS, just themeing a custom rom doesnt make it your own, but developing from the stock rom in any way does, especially if it more than just the UI. Circular battery mod and other UI's are easily achieved in UOT, but changing OOM values and build.prop is different, as long as you know the benefits you are making
I've made changes to stock only. Not on anyone else's custom ROM. Yes did make some oom changing scripts. (umm.. Yep I guess I know what changes and what advantages. Lol) also removed some stock-ware added better alternatives like go sms n dialer in place of stock ones.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I have the android sdk. I'll get the pdk... But what after that?? How to make the zip file of the ROM?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Just pull (with adb or root explorer) everything you changed then make a flashable zip of that. No need to post a whole rom, just call it a mod or theme...
Btw I'm not even a proper firmware-tinkerer.. Far from being a dev or anything. I'm just a humble 12th grade student. Still pretty much in my teens.. Lol
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Ok that's a good idea now... Lemme see if I can pinpoint which files I need to pull and which I can do without.... But about the zip thing.... I never really understood the certificate thingy... That meta.inf and all... What is that about??? Basically how to create a flashable zip??
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Same here, I am not a dev, but I teach 12 grade!!!
As far as I know that can be done with apk manager, the update zips I use are generally borrowed from other zips, as I only mod things others have done for myself, or make them in UOT.
Try getting in touch with a dev called DooMLoRD
He is very good and friendly (Also from your neck of the woods) but he is very busy. He helped me out inmy noob days, and I am sure he will help you if he has the time.
Ya he did seem helpful.... I know him of course... Anyone who aspires to overclock their xperia knows him....lol... But ya he is busy usually.... And he's more of a deep dev...tinkering with kernels....not the one to make custom ROMs and all isn't it???
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
So what I can do is take the zip of someone's rom, keep the certificate in it. Remove all other files, add mine into it and voila I'm done???
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I've made a lot of modifications to my stock rom, and would like to share it.... so is system.img a valid way to share my *own* rom or mod ? (valid as in technically feasible? means ppl can d/l it n flash using recovery n use it?)
my main concerns are... will it boot on someone else's device? (i tried it myself... total wipe + clean stock instal, followed by flashing only my backed up system.img, *didn't flash data.img, only system* it took an eternity to boot first time but it ran)
second concern... system.img doesn't have any personal data right? logs, msgs etc are in data partition i guess??

"Link2SD" use of it... For newbies ;)

Can someone tell me
1. What is the advantage of link2sd??
2. How to use it( I heard something partitions like that) and how to do that??
3. And difference between Apps2Sd and link2sd.
Thanks in advance

Everytime you must wait few hours, someone reply everytime... You must be more endurancefull
But, for a reply:
1.) Nothing, on 2.3.3 ROM it doesnt make any sense, because apps on sd are supported natively by OS.
2.) Not neccessary to explain, see 1.)
3.) link2sd is simply linking the app in phone memory to sd card, but app2sd moves the whole app onto sdcard. At the end both has same advantages - frees phone memory. But on some older OS, which didnt support app2sd was able to use link2sd instead.

rooting my phone????

Now then guys... i am thinking about rooting my phone to put jelly bean on my samsung galaxy s2 .... i was just wondering views on which is the best one to go for ( LINKS PLEASE ) and is it easy to do you know the usual questions you will have heard them before lol IM A NEWBIE !!!
Cheers People
Download Siyah 3.5.2.
http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/07/29/siyahkernel-s2-v3-5/
Tar for Odin.
Then use this guide.
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s2-i9100-root-android-4-0-3-ics-xwlpd-88120/
Nevermind it says Cf-root. I flashed my Siyah kernel that way.
After that, flash any rom you want in recovery. Just do a Nandroid backup in recovery and backup apps with Titanium backup from Market!!!

Don't restore apps after flashing newer ROM, cause your phone will bootloop.
Better create text file and write names of installed apps.
Im not sure why everyone is worried about backing up there apps ive flashed about a 100 roms and never had to back them up cause if u go to the play store under my apps there always there
Infact there are apps there id forgotten about just pick which ones u want and re install .some roms auto instal them for u .make sure you have a google acc obviously!

What type of data? Music and photos are saved to the external SD card for me, and as for game save data, I believe that is externally backed up as well.

Only if the application is on the external memory card then it's backed up there. Otherwise they'll loose the data if that's not the case.

If you restore from google play, you loose all your app settings and you will have to reconfigure each app.
Also, Google Play will not show apps installed offline (apk)
Restoring app data with third party app like titanium backup is safe if app is compatible with the target rom

in order to install a perticular custom rom , all u have to do is to follow the install instruction's of the same in there OP. and the same applies to all other roms also.
since installation instruction do vary from one custom rom to another
Jasper, you are better to read up on things so you are familiar with the processes of like rooting/kernels/roms/cwm/Odin/troubleshooting.
I understand reading 1000s of posts is tedious, but you could end up with a non working phone.
