I bought my Atrix 2 days ago. I have successfully rooted it using GingerBreak. My phone already has the superuser app. I can give permission to apps such as titanium backup. I also used the Root Checker app and it showed that I have my phone is rooted. It also showed that I already have the Busybox on it. I tried using the superoneclick to enable the installation of non market apps. It said that my phone wasn't rooted. So I decided to manually enable this option by downloading the Root Explorer app and modify the install_non_market_apps value to 0 (zero)on the settings.db file found on /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
I used the SQLite editor to change the value. I thought this would work, but I keep on getting the security warning message about blah blah trusted sources. I would like to know if there is anything else that I can do to enable sideloading, or if I'm missing a step.

I'm having trouble with GladEnable.
I started with an unrooted Atrix on 1.5.7. I downloaded 1.8.3 using the motorola updater. I installed Gingerbreak on the phone and ran it. I think I am rooted now...I'm basing this off that I downloaded the free Titanium Backup from the market to the phone. When I run the backup app, it tells me my system won't allow me to restore settings and that I need to go into settings/applications and tick the "Unknown Sources' box. I don't have that box.
I extracted GladEnable to the C drive of my computer. I connect the phone, have USB debugging on and USB set to None. I run the gladenable.bat file.
It say up "Allow superuser request on phone". Then says files copied. It asks if I want to install sideloading, I type in "y" and hit enter. It says "Allow superuser request on phone". Then it says Permission denied.
I'm not concerned about tethering so I type "n", then the phone reboots.
I posted this question over at Android Central. Someone suggested to check mark the "Allow Mock Locations" under settings/applications/development. It tried that and then ran GladEnable. I got the exact same responses.
Why is the sideloading being denied? Am I tapping/not tapping something at the right time?
Thanks

If you can't get that to work, try it this way (have to download sqlite editor in the market)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13451234&postcount=22
If you are not rooted, it will not allow you to do this though. It will tell you if you are rooted when it asks for SU permissions
I was having the same issue. So I was going to try this too. I'm using root explorer cause thats what I have. Does that matter?
The question I have is I can't find that directory. I'm running a search now but it's taking forever.
Thanks!!

I'm a retard, I didn't ever find that directory but I tried the other method again and it worked.
I'm a Mac user and forgot to add the driver to my windows side in VMware. I rooted on the OSX side so I wasn't even thinking about it.
Thanks for the tip any way!

This is my first android and first time rooting. This sounds like it may be above my ability to try. I was panicky just doing the Gingerbreak method.
Here was a response at android central (in red) and my response on what I tried (in blue).
Sounds like you may or may not be rooted, and that you don't have "sideloading" setup. You need to find the sideloading app and install it. The installation will give you (after it's completed) the ability to install apps from unknown sources. That will appear in Settings, under Applications and you need to be sure that the box has a check mark in it. Do you see a Super User app in your app drawer? If you do, you can check and see if it has granted SU permission to any of the apps in your drawer. If it hasn't try running one of the apps that require you to be rooted, in order to work - like Root Explorer, ShootMe or Titanium Backup.
-Mike.
I see the Super User in my app drawer. I've only downloaded free Titanium Backup since I "rooted" the phone. (Again, I thought I was rooted because I was able to download Titanium Backup) Titanium Backup is the only app showing when I open the Super User app. When I tap on Titanium backup, it's status shows "Allow". Also, I can open Titanium Backup. I guess I can use it's basic functions, but I can't freeze anything since it's the free version. So I am assuming it is functioning.
Ok I just downloaded and installed ShootMe. (It nows shows up in the Superuser app along with Titanium Backup) When I open it, this is what it says.. Shootme has been granted Superuser permissions...Trying to start server....Failed starting server. Please check you have "Root" access on your device and enabled access to the lower level graphics.
So am I actually rooted? Can I run Gingerbreak again (I still have it on my phone), or will that cause more problems?
Which sideloading app are you referring too? I was using GladEnabler, without luck. Don
So does it sound like I'm rooted?
If not can I re-run Gingerbreak?
Will only root necessary apps show up in the SuperUser app, or should all my apps show up in it?
Thanks
Thanks

No, you have to have sqlite editor from the market to change the values. If you download that, you will see what I am talking about.
Most people use sqlite on the pc when you change the values, so this is almost easier to do on the phone in this case since there is an app for it.

Yea, you should be able to rerun Gingerbreak if it was not successful at first.
You can sideload Gingerbreak with the Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine if you like.
And No, it doesn't sound like you are rooted fully.
I was on stock 1.8.3. I have never rooted before. I tried the gingerbreak.exe and gingerbreak.apk method. Do I have root? Well, you tell me. I did alot of reading here to see what to do. I installed Rootcheck and Connect bot. According to both of them I have root.
I've installed Titanium backup (free) and Shootme (was one of the apps recommended to use to see if have root).
Each time I open Backup I get the following message: Your system settings will prevent you from restoring applications. To correct this, go to your phone's Settings, then in "Applications" and tick the "Unknown Sources" checkbox. I don't have an "Unknown Sources checkbox.
Each time I run Shootme I get the message: Shootme has been granted Superuser permissions...Trying to start server....Failed starting server. Please check you have "Root" access on your device and enabled access to the lower level graphics.
I have Superuser in my apps. Everything Ive installed for the rooting process shows up there as allow (ConnectBot, Gingerbreak, Root Check, Shootme Titanium Backup).
Regarding Sideloading........
I've tried to enable sideloading using Gladenable. It shows:
Allow Superuser request on your phone. Files copied. Press any key to continue. I press enter.
It asks Do you want to install sideloading? [y/n] I type y and hit enter.
It shows Allow Superuser request on your phone..
Permission denied. Press any key to continue.
I don't need tethering so i type n. Phone reboots.
I tried using Superoneclick's Allow Non Market Apps. This is what it shows:
OK
Checking for sqlite3
Pushing sqlite3...
1177 KB/s (24120 bytes in 0.020s)
OK
chmod sqlite3...
OK

OK
Checking value... (requires root)
Non-market applications are disabled.
Allow non-market apps... (requires root)
OK
Checking value... (requires root)
FAILED
I tried to see if i could install a non market app from Amazon. i downloaded it but got the unsafe app warning and it wouldn't install.
Can someone help me here? Am i rooted? Why can't I sideload?
Thanks

Try this, double-click Superuser to make sure it's actually running and then go back into Titanium Backup. If that's not working, then download "Busybox" (if it's not already showing in your app drawer). Download, install, and let BusyBox do its thing.
I had to go through that stuff to use Titanium Backup with Gladroot...

I clicked superuser (not sure how to double click on my phone), and opened it. I then went into manage apps and checked to see if it was running. It was. I opened Titanium backup and got the same message as before.
I checked the market for Busybox. There were a couple Busybox apps by different people. I installed the one with the most downloads, by(stephen stericson). It shows in my app drawer as Busybox Installer. It says I'm rooted. Not sure what to do with it from there though. I again opened T. Backup again and still get the same message..

That is weird.
I have the Bell version so unfortunately I can't speak for newer AT&T firmware.
This is my 5th Android phone, and gaining root on this is the biggest PITA I've ever dealt with. Half the time you're rooted and the other half you're not. I kinda knew that things weren't gonna be easy when Superoneclick had issues with this device.
Anywhoo I'm waiting for an "Official" stock Bell SBF to surface before into the deeper end of the pool on this device...
I played with Titanium Backup tonight. It let me do a backup. But I still get the same message whenever I open it Your system settings will prevent you from restoring applications. To correct this, go to your phone's Settings, then in "Applications" and tick the "Unknown Sources" checkbox.
I still can't get sideloading enabled.
download "terminal emulator" from the market, open it, and type "su" and then enter. if you see a # sign, you are rooted. if not, you are not rooted.

Sh*t. Well thats gunna be handy. Thanks!
Well I am rooted.
And after numerous attempts with Gladenabler I finally have sideloading. I tried something different. With the phone connected to the computer I turned USB debugging off then turned it on. Then ran Gladenaber. On the first try I finally got the superuser request, but the sideloading permission was still denied. I tried it one more time and whoo hoo it gave me sideloading.
Thanks for the replies
Don
I have a HTC IS. I have rooted it .... well ...
In fact, if I use terminal emulator, I do have root access: su brings the prompt sign to #.
But, if I use connectbot, then not root access: su does bring the message "permission denied".
Is this correct??
Thanks
update:
-----------
I used Root check and it reported that my root access was not properly configured.
I booted in recovery mode, and activated "check permissions". Next, root check confirmed my root access.
Hello Everyone,
I have a Droid 4 XT894 running OS 4.1.2 and i was looking for a root exploit, I ran into Razr Blade and decided it should work, I used it, checked my root with Root Checker Basic and it keeps saying I dont have access. Why?
Did you activate the root option in your superuser app?

Not gonna get an answer here, you posted in the wrong place. Look here for your solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-4
Hi. I have a Lenovo A7600-F tablet, and I've been trying to root it. I've heard that iRoot is the best way to root this device, so that's what I did. I went ahead and installed the APK, ran it, and clicked root. It said that it has rooted successfully, so I rebooted, and when I enter iRoot again it says I'm not rooted. However, the Superuser app is still there, and cannot be uninstalled. I click root a second time, and the Superuser app disappears. I reboot, and the Superuser app is back again and iRoot still says I'm not rooted. I installed some root apps and this is the output:
iRoot - Not rooted
Superuser - Not rooted
Root Checker Basic - Not rooted
Some other root checker - Rooted
Root Browser - Apparently rooted
Terminal Emulator - Running the command 'su' puts the number 255 before the typing space
Got Root? -
SU Exists: True
Version: 16 com.mgyun.shua.su
Root Obtained: False
I'm confused. Am I rooted? If I'm not, how do I remove the Superuser app?
By the way, when I look in my device's system files, I can see /system/app/irootsu.apk and /system/bin/su.
halp.

Try installing Chainfire's super su and check again i think you might not have the correct super user app installed when using iroot.
just search the playstore for it

It is not rooted. Any app that requires root privilege will not be functional.
That being said, there are known methods to "root" Remix OS. A "systemless" method is to be found elsewhere in this forum.

Android apps can't get root access without modifying the RemixOS installation, however there is a command prompt with root access that you can enable in the experimental options part of the settings app. Once enabled you can press Alt+F1 to get to it, and Alt+F7 to get back to the desktop. It's not as useful as full root access, but it works if you just want to remove system files or disable some apps that you can't disable using the settings app.

There are a couple options on the forum that are available already pre-rooted, and there are also threads with instructions on how to root it yourself. :good:
Thank you guys for the answers!
i want it to not be rooted.
So if it is not rooted from the begining, then better.
