[Q] Is flashing via odin or heindall save? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
My last two phones were the two nexus' and with this phones i flashed with fastboot but most of the time trough the recovery. So i never used one of this programms befor and i`m a bit afraid to flash without a recovery. Should i wait until there is recovery or is this the normal way to flash on a galaxy?

yes, have a jig handy though

Lets say 99% safe if you follow the instructions .
90% safe if you do not follow instructions that is its 90% recoverable .

[Q] Is there any limitation flashing using ODIN?

Is there any limitation flashing using ODIN?
i mean, is that safe using ODIN several time to flash the S5830?
or any limitation for doing this? to avoid the bricked situation
thanks
Using this ace since March, I've flashed through ODIN at least 20 times and the most problematic hurdle was a bootloop. Once. Nothing I can't fix.
But there is going to be a degree of potential bricking when flashing (either through ODIN or flashing zips).

flash memories have certain amount of read/write cycles so don't try to flash it that much with odin as at end of life it will refuse to do anything..
no one can provide you specific number as it depends on flash chips on device

Problems/doubts related to rooting the phone

I was going through threads on rooting, ROMs, kernels and bricking. Before reading threads about bricking I wanted to root my phone but after reading I got scared of bricking my phone which I think is difficult to debrick (unbrick).
Is it really the case that we cannot debrick the phone at home? Is it ok to root with such a consequence?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
All I can say is if you're that worried about it, don't root your phone or flash anything. Leave it on stock & enjoy it.
Is it possible to change ROM without rooting the phone?
And what are the chances of bricking the phone while rooting? And if bricked what is procedure to make it as earlier

use this to root your S2...It is 100% risk free. However use only if u are on ICS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
Also, read everything before u flash a rom/kernel..95% of them get bricked without reading or consulting properly

I read it, but I didn't not find anything written as it won't brick the phone. So just wanted to confirm even if I made any mistake, it won't brick my phone, right?

if you don't wanna brick your phone, then don't screw up in following the instructions
Look at method 1 in the link from my signature
It will not brick your phone as I now include cwm4

Done with rooting.

My phone won't boot anymore....

When I restarted my phone today, my phone does not finish booting... It stays at the Samsung screen and does the little vibrate thing (that it does just before the boot is finished) at intervals but it never finish...
I also took a factory reset from Recovery but it still refuses to finish booting..
How can I fix this?

were you rooted - should be if you were able to delete that....? if yes, can you get into recovery mode and flash something there
if not try to get into download mode
vol down + power + home button - if you can get into donwload mode just get a stock rom and flash it via odin.

God here, sorry I was a little slow posting people have so many problems they want sorting out.
My divine knowledge says this person is correct, because you deleted a system folder the only real option is to reflash your current rom (you won't need to wipe) via CWM or Odin, both should be accessible because it's a system problem. You could also flash a different rom, however this will require a data wipe.

So you say by beeing rooted you have a custom recovery? Anyway just flash with odin same rom, and all is fine.
Like others said this should easily be fixed by flashing a Firmware through Odin.
However there really was no need to open up 2 threads with the exact same question:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2095932
Factory reset no need to install another firmware . You have not removed the bin from your hidden recovery image .

Black screen after boot! HELP (URGENT

Hi, I'm new here so bare with me.
I just rooted my Samsung S3-I9300 hours ago. And I was pumped up, what I did later on is I installed bootanimation and I didn't quite understand how to use it and I still don't, but in the end I got it to work but the logo was too small but this isn't the problem. I entered recovery mode and I don't know what I extracted or installed and I rebooted my device and all I hear is the Samsung booting music and that's all. My screen is black.
Your help is appreciated.

Yes, it is booting. I can see the back button and the options button lit. It's just black.
BUMP.
I would probably wipe data in recovery mode, and last case scenario flash official firmware from sammobile.com.
This will make you lose all your saves and stuff though.
Wipe cache and/or full wipe. If still nothing, reflash ROM. It happened to me long time ago, nothing to worry about.

If you didnt make a backup, yes, use ODIN to flash a stock ROM.
You can find out which rom you currently have in settings/about phone.
Download the rom from sammobile.com and flash with ODIN.
