can i flash franco's kernel on cm7? and if so, will there be a significant boost on my phone's performance or the other way around?? thanks!
Check this topic mate this question already had a place here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097187
yes you can . i did and i like the performance
there seems to be a battery drain issue on mine though.
Install setcpu set governer to savezed. If you are using 3g for data than battery consumption is higher.

I think i need to shift to a froyo rom like openoptimus etc.

You mean frequency? You have to use an app called SetCPU which is free for xda members.

You can choose the governor and Frequency.

That the tweaks are included means you don't need to do anything to enable them.
No kernel requires any sd card partitioning.
Yes, you can flash it via CWM. Just wipe cache and battery stats first.

Just thought id put my 2 cents in and say I've flashed every Rom on my p500 and gingercrust V1.3 has to be one of my favourite roms to date.Added the patch with no problems. It's basic fast and has everything you need. I've flashed the latest goldleaf and the battery is real good, well I'm happy.
Thanks for an awesome Rom and look forward for further updates keep up the good work team.

2nd:this is the second day with this rom and so far so good. But I have 2 problems : I can't find out how to change the ringtone and i can't update su binary.
Other than that,it's good.
Glad you like it.
The su binary, you can update it by update superuser on the market. The ringtone can be changed as usual, there is not any prblem with it.

Use 1.1 kernel. v2 is labeled as testing release and it hasn't got any important improvements, so yeah.. I would go for v1.1

First of all, I would like to congrats you that you have successfully installed the best kernel in the world - franco.Kernel v2
then, let me tell you: the battery consumption is NOT because of the kernel.
according to your findings, you said alarm manager is activating the partial wakelock.
confirm the wakelock is occupying that 8 hours of awake
if not, see if there is another wakelock
do not uninstall alarm apps, they are NOT THE ONLY apps that activates alarm manager!
according to the xda wiki, it says...
Alarm Manager
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/app/AlarmManager.html
Alarm Manager manages intents to Be triggered at Specific Times. Alarm Manager has little to do with alarm clocks. It is related to Android holding a process in state until it is either needed again or exited fully.
Quote:
This class provides access to the system alarm services. These allow you to schedule your application to be run at some point in the future. When an alarm goes off, the Intent that had been registered for it is broadcast by the system, automatically starting the target application if it is not already running. Registered alarms are retained while the device is asleep (and can optionally wake the device up if they go off during that time), but will be cleared if it is turned off and rebooted. ... The Alarm Manager holds a CPU wake lock as long as the alarm receiver's onReceive() method is executing.
Make sure you exit apps you no longer want by using the back button before you put your device to sleep. Do not use the Home button to exit an app.

Ask in the Siyah thread in the development section.
No you don't need cuz in version 2.6.3 we see
removed siyah-battery, siyah-defaults and siyah-performance scripts from the blog. please remove all existing scripts before installing this version (or flash your existing rom again to remove all scripts). use init.d scripts if you know what you do, otherwise use VoltageControl app or ThunderBolt! scripts. use this CWM recovery flashable zip to remove previous 01siyah script. just flash it once and /system/etc/init.d/01siyah script will be removed.

and for 2.6.6 you don't need zip for battery.
The scripts people are talking about are pikcahu's thunderbolt! scripts, you dont need to flash them if you dont want to, they can help, but performance/batt are good at stock values.
(Part of thunderbolt! is built into the kernel anyway)

No.. undervolting is lowering the voltage at each frequency step
Underclocking is lowering the max frequency.
eg setting the max to 1000mhz would be underclocking
setting 1000mhz to 1100mV would be undervolting (just an example)

Hi All,
Coming from a iPhone4, I noticed that even overnight when the phone is in standby the % drop in the battery is greater on the SGS3.
I am currently running the Omega V25 ROM and the battery drain when in standby is about 10-13% over 7hrs in standby whilst I am sleeping. I read a few days back on the Omega forum (cannot find it again) one of the users saying how great the battery life was for them...something like 1% drop over a few hours in standby....do you know if there is some trick to get such good performance?
I have used good programs like Juice Defender which brings it back to on par with the iPhone4, but does get a bit annoying sometimes waiting for the network connections to restart. Sometimes it even refuses to restart the network which is VERY annoying. I was wondering if there was something I am missing that can get great battery life (IN STANDBY) without 3 party programs like Juice Defender etc....
Thanks,
Ray

Hi!
I gotta advise you that juicedefender/other battery defending apps hurt more than it should actually help. Think of it this way, juicedefender is also an app. App=RAM consumption, High RAM consumption=High battery consumption.
Also, flashing a custom kernel can help out. There are tweaks which you can do with custom kernels.
E.G. *Undervolting [if you are a total noob on this, then you might read thoroughly how to do this]
You can have manual settings to low screen brightness, not go to vibrate mode, led notif off, etc. And more importantly, CLOSE APPS THAT RUN IN BACKGROUND Such as: Facebook
You can never really rely that let's say, Person1 is having awesome battery life with KernelX because it depends mainly on your SETTINGS and STANDARD USAGE
I hope this will help you out

Depends on your usage. Of course, powersave would be in the running for best battery life, but it would not be ideal if you are a gamer or heavy user. I personally use a governor not available on any of the GB kernels as far as I know (SmartassH3).
Never liked SetCPU. I use No frills; simple UI, allows you to change governor and I/O scheduler, look at some frequency stats, etc.

SmartassH3 is supposed to be a more battery efficient version of Smartassv2.
I don't think changing your governor will help with sleeping issues. Governors only affect how the CPU ramps up and down. If you have issues with your phone sleeping, then it is most likely one of your apps.
Since you already have BetterBatteryStats, you can easily check partial wakelocks and see if any apps are keeping your phone awake.
I really doubt upgrading the app will change the battery usage of your phone.
If you cared about battery life, being on stock is bad start. Why not use CM7 or CM9?
