[Q] No video on SGS2 using Plex - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My SGS2 came yesterday and after installing Plex for Android, none of my videos or movies would play streaming from the Plex server from my mac. I had no problems with my other Android devices.
I can hear the sound playing, but there is NO video.
Anyone has any ideas?
thanks
http://www.plexapp.com/

Damn thats real bad news!! I use Plex extensively on my iPad and previous Android phone.
Try contacting the dev if other SGS2 users too face this problem.

Plex works fine for me.
What firmware are you on? Have you tried doing a factory reset? Have you tried rebooting the Mac? Do you have the lastest Plex software for the Mac?
Throwing out ideas here.

I only got the phone yesterday and don't think I need to do a factory reset. I am on
Baseband version:
I9100XXKE2
Kernel version:
[email protected]#2
The problem is not with the iMac, must be something with the phone.

Do you have an iPhone/iPad or another Android phone to test that with?
The iPad version has an option called Direct Streaming in its iOS App. If Android version has that too try disabling it and see.

Plex doesn't work on my GSII either. Definitely a problem I think. There was a thread with the same issue in the app forum.

Apparently this is a common problem on the SGS2.

are you able to access "http://homeserverIP:32400/manage/" on a desktop other than the home server?
The phones you listed, is that just stating what firmware they have or that they are streaming with that firmware?
Custom ROMS have been known to have issues, for instance, I stream no problem to my stock Captivate with 2.3.3 installed, but I have an issue streaming to my Galaxy Tab 10.1 with TW... (funny thing, both are leaks from Samsung not custom ROMS)
More info about the devices your trying to connect with might help.

I don't think many people run plex here. I only had an issue with getting plex working was when UPnP was enabled. I disabled the service and did the firewall settings and enabled it again, been working no problem since.
With as many devices you have trying to get working, you might be better off going to the plex forums and inquiring there. http://forums.plexapp.com/
I've read through before and they do not support custom roms, only stock. And as for the galaxy tab with calkin's, it does not work for me either but it does on stock honeycomb and the first KFC touchwiz release. I am hoping the new official touchwiz will work out of the box. Good luck!
I confirmed wont work w/ TW you happen to have a link to get me back to stock 3.1 US rom? i look in dev section and get overwhelmed lol

Yeah which version? The only one that worked for me was KFC release. So if its KFC based then its the Euro ROM and I am only interested in the US release.
I tested KM7 and KG8 and both did not work for me, but it did on my Captivate phone.

Yep, I have the KFC - Euro Rom. I plan on flashing back to stock tomorrow, in preparation for the update. If the update breaks PLEX... imma be pissed.

I haven't found a format it can't stream I have tested extensions *.mkv, *.divx, *.avi, *.m4v.
It did have some troubles with mkv that had DTSHD as the audio, but they have released two updates since and I have't tried again. I set all audio to downmix to stereo to help with keeping the bandwidth down.

Since updating to UEKM7 on my tab, Plex no longer plays videos for me. Music still works. And I was never able to get my tablet to connect to Plex from outside of my network (no issues with Splashtop & Playon).

do you think it is as simple as the netflix issue and just a lib has to be swapped out?

Best part is, if you have 1080p mkv, it'll stream also that well without any issues.

[Q] Poor image quality and video playback?

Hi Guys,
Picked up a Sim free Galaxy S2 yesterday from someone local to me. Was a unwanted upgrade.
Straight away I noticed that the image quality on webpages wasn't quite right and also video playback in the YouTube and BBC Iplayer apps was poor despite being connected to Wifi and the highest quality setting being selected.
Any ideas what this could be?
I downloaded a HQ video from YouTube using TubeMate and that plays perfectly, nice and clear :S
Android 2.3.4
Baseband: I9100XXKI3
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575468 [email protected]#2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKI4
Thanks

Sounds like maybe the previous owner messed with the dpi setting of the display. I don't know off the top of my head how to fix this... You can probably find this with a search though.
Sorry should have mentioned that I've searched on here and Google and can't seem to find anything.
Originally I thought it may be T-Mobile's stupid data compression but I disabled this when I had my Nexus S. I also tested it with my sim out and it was just connected to Wifi.
Very strange and annoying.

*sigh*...
Quick google shows me dpi setting is in build.prop, entry is "ro.sf.lcd_density=" with a value after that. Default is 240. Check that.
but a dpi change would be apparent on the entire phone wouldn't it?

Hmm... then I'm not sure. is it all videos, not just YouTube? What about videos you shoot with the phone?
Video captured from the camera looked ok, standard GS2 quality really.
Like I say a HQ video downloaded and played works great.
Never mind, phone is packaged up and off to be recycled tomorrow. Can't even be bothered to sell it on.
I hate IOS and can't wait to get back to Android. I guess I will have to wait for the Galaxy S3.
Thanks for trying to help.

[Q] problems with dlna

Hi all, have you allready used allshare on new SG3? I have tried it yesterday and I could not run it. I have Synology DS211 and with SG2 it was no problem. Now i cannot connect to it. Any advices please?
Many Thanks!

There are thread about this on the Q&A sub section, follow the link on my sig please..
nobody is using dlna on SG3?
I'm a bit baffled about the AllShare element of the GS3. I was quite happy with the way it worked on the S2, but with the S3 I have to install something on my PC to access the files on it even though I have AllShare installed on it.
When I open the stock Gallery app, I'm able to see any pictures on my DLNA enabled PC. Maybe with the Video Player app you can do a similar thing? I'll check this when I get home from work...
I have DLNA sharing on Synology, where I can't instal any Samsung aplication.
Now I am solving it trhoug another player called BubbleUPnP, but I am still hoping, that this must be done through Samsung software...
Same here. The stock video player just keeps scanning when I access, my NAS. Every other app works fine.
...and the stock audio player is ok by you?

I can't get this to work either. My s iii shows up in windows media player and the computer shows up in nearby devices but in the phon's music player the "loading" notice keeps running forever.
I just tried using the video player and I found some videos, maybe the problem is that the 30+ gigs of music is jusslow to load. Has anyone else experienced something similar?
Edit: Iwent back after some time and the song listed! Unfortunately they were all in one alpha list, and tapping one would;'t play it. I think this is pretty much useless without organization so I'm going to try Allshare.

video lag in browsers

hi guys,
looked through the fora but could not find something maybe someone can help me out.
I have bad lag when i watch flashvideos in my browsers. all of them same lag. standardbrowser, skyfire, mozilla, dolphin.
Anyone with the same problem and even better anyone a solution?
Yeah I started thread couple week ago. It's in a q& a section. Unfortunately, there's no solution as of yet regarding video freezing but sound keep playing when streaming on network. Playing on wifi works fine.
One thing I found helps is restarting phone before starting Netflix for example or watching from browser.
Also note YouTube app does not suffer from this, so sometimes if it's a YouTube video embedded in the Page I just click on video link to be able to watch in the app instead of browser.

Yes I'm also suffering this problem. On network or WiFi on all browsers. Pain in the arse!

Flash doesn't lag on the GS3. But it does freeze frequently. If it lags then very likely you aren't actually using flash but the html5 player instead.
Netflix app does not actually use nor is dependant on flash. Also uninstalling flash completely, so that videos that do play, default to html5, still freeze while sound keeps playing, which leads to conclusion that it's not flash issue.

Try ICS Browser+ from Google play...
Flash videos did lag for me initially, so I tried clearing the application data but that wasn't possible. So I installed flash 10, which was incompatible, then updated it using Google Play to flash 11 and it seems to work better now.

Unable to Stream Videos.

Hi guys, hopefully an easy one.
Have searched previous threads for advice but no luck.
Recently purchased Samsung Galaxy sIII, i9300. Network provider o2.
The phone is ROOTED and is running on Android 4.0.4.
My problem is that I am unable to stream videos on Facebook, iPlayer, ITVPlayer or TV Catchup. The videos load, and I can hear audio but there is no video. Also, the phone kind of locks up when I try to quit the app.
Youtube streaming is fine!
The problem occurs when connected to 3g and also when connected to WiFi.
Adobe Air is updated, can't find flash in play store, but I've downloaded SmartSWF instead but still nothing.
Was considering upgrading to JellyBean to see if this would resovle the problem but thought I would try here first.
Thoughts / advice please?
Much appreciated. S.
Try searching for adobe flash player for Jellybean.
You will find threads about it and there it will give the apk to download and install and it works perfectly fine.
Not completely sure why your device isnt finding adobe flash player.
But they stopped officially supporting android devices from 4.1 and above.
