Hey guys, I'm in need of some help.
Long story short, my friend has an lg optimus s that has a corrupted recovery that doesn't seem to want to be fixed by being flashed over. When I try to boot into recovery mode, the screen is just dark.
Any tips on how this might be solved? I've looked everywhere and I haven't found a good solution.
I've tried flashing a new image using terminal, but no luck with that. I still keep getting the blank screen.
I'm not sure what info is useful, but I know the phone is rooted. If there's anything else you need to know, I'll see if I can figure it out and report back.
Thanks so much
Apologies if this is a repeat/stupid question - I've looked and looked and can't find/understand a solution that fits my problem. I just acquired a Fascinate, and couldn't help myself - I wanted it rooted. I previously owned multiple Erises and rooted them all, so I figured it couldn't be that bad.
I followed the one-click instructions in the Android Central forums, as I had trouble finding instructions for a Mac user that I could comprehend anywhere else (sorry, I'm new enough that I can't post a full link): forums dot androidcentral dot com/verizon-fascinate-rooting-roms-hacks/65924-guide-tools-information-mac-os-x-users-updated-04-07-a.html
Somewhere between steps 3 and 5, my phone got stuck in recovery mode and won't come out. Everything looked like installed successfully. But now it's a black background, blue text. Clicking "apply sdcard:update.zip" gets me an error message. Wiping seems to work. Rebooting just gets me back to the same screen. No option to choose a zip.
I googled around all last night, and can't find a solution. It looks like there are lots of options to use Odin in some way, but I have a Mac. In this case, there's TOO much information out there, and I can't decipher it. HELP!
I realize I'm totally at fault for jumping the gun on rooting, but here I am. The thread I used has been quiet for weeks and no one's answering. Can anyone help? How can I get my phone back on track?
Thank you!
Since you're using a mac you need heimdall to fix it...or find a friend who has a pc to use odin.your phone is recoverable so your not really screwed yet but I have little knowledge on how to use heimdall...do some searching on the site, dale v had an excellent walk through on how to use it but I just can't find the link right now...maybe someone else will see this and post a link for ya.

Thank you both - I will check all of the links out. Much, much appreciated.
I have been running normal CM7 from BatF and decided to give Neutrino a try. I followed all the instructions. My phone is now in a bootloop on the M Dual Core screen. I tried entering recovery, but after I select it, the screen just goes black. Any ideas? I'm not receiving any kind of error code.
Well after some more research I was able to find out some more info.
I found this thread that seems very similar to mine:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1376993
I'm thinking I should follow post #5 but I was thinking of getting some confirmation before I screw anything else up.
Don't know why I never had Romracers before, but everything is working great now. Thanks to anyone who looked at the thread and thought about problems at least
So, the day before yesterday I decided on advice from a friend to root my phone, a Galaxy S 4G (T959) from T-Mobs I got in January. The process itself was easy and made me feel (apparently) over confident.
After doing a little reading I decided if it was that easy, I should upgrade it from 2.3.6 Gingerbread up to Ice Cream Sandwich, I mean what could possibly go wrong?
I ran into more than my fair share of glitches.
Well at some point I tried solutions for problems with ExRom 2.0
E:Short write of /tmp/sideload/package.zip (no space left on device)
and then from code.google zip
E:signature verification failed
New ROM Data fix
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
At some point I should have stopped myself, but I kept reading tips and solutions. 9 hours of reading post on XDA and half a dozen other forums, thinking, "I used to build desktops, I'm sure I can do this myself."
Now 3 days later and some 35 hours of reading posts, I've managed to get my phone to a point where, no three button combo seems to bring it download mode. It will only bring up "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" when i hit any key or plug it into a USB power source.
I'm assuming this is the everlasting reference I keep finding of "soft bricking" as I can't do much with the phone.
So, I've got Odin v1.85 and a bunch of downloads I don't think I know which are which anymore. I've not spent the better part of 35 hours in the past three days trying to fix my phone. I'm on the road for work and the only communication tool I have is my laptop (thank goodness for this at least).
Since my brain is fried, could someone tell me is it fixable, or is it really what I think and the phone just doesn't like me anymore and wants to do nothing? Could someone point me to right files for ICS for T959 and installation instructions, or to the right thread with instructions. I'm worried I followed the wrong instructions enough already. Any help would be appreciated.
THANKS GUYS,
Regards

Of anybody could help me that would be absolutely fantastic. I was half asleep in a thread on trying to get a custom recovery for my Verizon Ellipsis 7 (quanta qmv7a) and I found a recovery.img and it was noted that it was a test. I'm just curious of anyone knows how to fix my brick because the recovery won't load and I'm now stuck in a boot loop, the "welcome" screen comes up and goes away and comes up again repeatedly. Is there a way I can adb flash this tablets stock recovery? I still have the original recovery.img I just need to figure out how to flash it when its boot looped due to a wrong recovery.img flash. Help is greatest appriciated! Thank you!

-The complete lack of responses could mean that we're screwed... (or we've asked a dumb question).Today, I too was a little too eager with the Enter button without triple-checking if the version of the recovery would be compatible with my current ROM -- it obviously wasn't -- Ellipsis_boot_patched_140902-025705.img over the top of 4.4.2 -- should have done more homework
Google's bots have hit this thread -- I hope we can help others who find this thread in our predicament and give solutions -- not just be a dead-end as it is now.
It's only been 4 hours since I've been working on it... it had an unlocked bootloader so there is hope.
I can tell what _doesn't_ work straight away:
1. Pulling the battery cable -- the back cover comes off easy -- insert a credit card starting at the SIM/SD slots and work your way around the cover and then gently pull the battery harness from the battery terminal assembly -- At least I don't have to see WELCOME taunting me by flashing every few minutes.
2. Combinations of button pressing -- I tried all the dead-Andi tricks...
3. Adb and RSD-lite aren't being acknowledged.
For just a few seconds before re-cycling -- Windows DOES recognize the phone (via USB) -- enough time to (indirectly) put a batch file in the bootloader?
-- or the answer could come from a combination of all the above.
After months of tweaking, I had just gotten the 16G SD card to be stable and (fairly) transparent as the main-APP drive -- Thanks mostly in part to Vicky's recent overhauling of her app: Apps2D -- I don't want to abandon all those hours without giving it one last concerted effort.
I am also willing to give playing with the physical ROM a try (-- I pray it's not embedded in the Soc). I remembered all the fun I had with JTAGs all those years ago when I was messing with DSS systems.
The tablet was a grateful gift to me but would not be one I would have ever purchased... The Ellipsis 7 was one of the first "cheap" tablets on the market... it shows. I would never use it professionally -- but wouldn't hesitate to use it as a backup or taken out camping...
I'm giving this a 30% chance of success.... well, i'm in the market for a new tablet... maybe one of those new Win8/Marshmallow dual-booters made-in-China?
You say you have the original recovery.img could you send me that please?

Is there a chance that you have the entire ROM? I tried to root and ended up bricking the device
