I just did a *228 option 1 and 2 and it took no problem. You are probably just experiencing a tower issue.

Look under settings/about phone and look at the baseband version.
If you can text and/or use WiFi there is nothing wrong with your radio.

If this is a issue I would flash back to stock and then change your number but before you do so I would make a complete backup file on my computer or sd card that way you can simply return your phone to previous .

Enable your wifi.
Go to the market.
Search Blockbuster.
Download and enjoy.
Also, there is a bloatware installer that you can download from the gingerblur thread just in case there are any other items that were deleted that you want back.
