OK, I got a real nice surprise today when I saw in my phone bill that i had been dialing internationally through my wireless provider even though "google voice" would pop up on my phone since it is set to be used for ALL international calls. I now set it to ask before dialing, but I go check my call history in google voice and I have no calls made... WTF????

It seems that the calls dialed out are just not going out through GV - regardless if they were local or international.
I called a friend's phone from my GV and my regular cell number shows despite asking it to dial all calls. While the phone shows that google voice is dialing out, it's just your phone dialing.
WTF, stuck with a very high bill now. Who is to blame? SE, ATT, GV?
I am out of the country at the moment and cannot check but I saww Google voice was updated, maybe it works after this update.

Unfortunately you. The best way to ensure gv is being used is to make calls from the browser. I have had ongoing problems with the app.
Instead I created an icon on my nineteen with gv as the bookmark. When I hit it, it goes straight to the gv call screen. It ain't pretty but it works.

That is a snarky answer. I never ever had a problem with GV on 1.6 from March to October of this year, and from what I read it was even more integrated in 2.1, why would I assume a Google App would not work properly when it pops up when I make an international call? Thank you for the workaround though.

I agree I did expect the same as you. When I got stung it was around $300 more than my bill normally was. Calling my buddy in Cali at 35 cents a minute flat!
The only way I have found to be sure is the browser way and only because you are receiving a call. IMO gv should have some sort of pre-ring notification to verify it's operating.
OK, I know I'll probably get slammed, but I searched and searched and can't find the answer...
I'm coming from the Nexus One on ATT where google voice worked flawlessly. Now, on Verizon with the Thunderbolt, it's a nightmare. Incoming calls don't get my Gvoice message, just a notice saying to enter a PIN. Also, Gvoice isn't showing the correct outgoing caller ID... even though everything "appears" to be setup properly in Gvoice settings and on the Thunderbolt.
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!! Any ideas?
The information on the Google Voice Settings page didn't work for me. Telling you to dial some crazy * #### blah blah blah.
So I did some calling to Verizon and dug deeper. In order to get GV on your VZW, you need to do these steps:
*71[Google Voice Number]
*90[GVnumber]
*92[GVnumber]
Then GV should work.
I was in the same boat as you. Upgraded from TMO Nexus to this and was going crazy trying to figure out why GV wouldn't work.

I just installed the app, dialed *xxxxxxxxxx (whatever number i was told to dial by the app or site) and it seems to be working fine. I've never used it before though, so I'll update this if something goes wrong.

I just followed the directions on google.com/voice and mine worked fine. My voicemail gets picked up by GV.
i had previously set up gvoice with sprint so what I had to do in gvoice was delete my cell number and re-set it up so it would register with Verizon. Works fine after that.

All U.S. Verizon Customers are on the CDMA network.

That code only sets up forwarding for one group of calls. Unfortunately, you need to setup GVoice on the Thunderbolt to properly forward BOTH unanswered (missed) calls, and ignored (intentionally declined) calls. The two different actions are handled differently by Verizon - hence the multiple dial-in codes. Although I don't know what the third code is for.

I'm not going to get into a huge back and forth over it, but I just tested my Thunderbolt phone both ways...I called it and let it go unanswered, and then I called it and hit the decline button on the screen. Both times it rolled to my Google Voice voicemail. I only set it up with the *71 code.
I'm not disputing that your experience may be different, but that's how it worked for me.
Whenever I try to add my new Verizon phone number, it shows up as a Gizmo account no matter what I select (Mobile, Home, or Work).

works the same as it did for me from my og droid. i wish there would be an icon telling me what number the people are calling me on. i have a bunch of people call the wrong number and i never know what line its on.

When I was done I tried to call myself and see if it works, I get a message asking me to put the # I am trying to call and hit the pound button. Please help, Love Google Voice and I tried Verizon tech help and absolutely useless, tried to sell me theirs.

I had a friend of mind call in and he got the same message. I have seen other posts of people with the same issue. I can not find out how they resolved their issue. Someone must have the answer, Verizon tech help didn't have a clue unless I was buying their V Voice Mail.
I also came over from t-mobile. All I did was set my phone's voicemail setting to my Google number, then did *71(my Google number) and my voicemail works fine.

If you are using the wifi calling feature from T-mobile, it uses your minutes. If you're using some sort of voip solution while on wifi it will not. I have the same plan as you and I use GrooveIP for all calls while on wifi. The sound quality is OK. Some people complain about it, but it's definitely usable, and it keeps me under the 100 minutes of the plan. The other thing about it is that it uses google chat to complete the calls, so you have to have a google voice account (free) and people calling you will have to dial your google voice number. This wasn't a big deal for me since I was already using google voice and everyone used that number to reach me anyway, but if all your contacts have your cell #, you'll have to get them to start using a different number to call you. You can set up google voice so that it forwards all calls to your cell and to google chat simultaneously. Then set up GrooveIP to only work when on wifi. This way you'll get your calls whether on wifi or not. It also works on 3g/4g, or is supposed to. I didn't need to even try as unloading the calls when on wifi keeps me well under the 100 cell minutes, so I can't tell you about the quality of that.

It depends on where the call was started from. If your call originates on wi-fi and you have the feature on your plan then it is free to you. If the call originates on the T-Mobile network and you then go to a wi-fi call it will be using your minutes. YOU MUST have the free wi-fi calling feature on your account as well for it not to use your minutes.
This isn't specific to the Rezound, but how do you block your phone from receiving or sending text messages. I couldn't find the option on their website, nor any other guide for doing it.

that's basically it yeah. I called long ago to have them disable it. you pretty much should call for any adjustments. I also have it set so if I use up my minutes it automatically declines calls so I don't get charged overages. I have the cheapest 200 minute plan & mainly just use Skype.
You know if you go over you can just call and say you want to bump up to the next plan, no overages, then the following month you can go back down.
Is that the senior plan or whatever? The two hundred minute plan? Will theyvlet me on that because I don't use many voice minutes a month. If u do I could just use groove IP to make a few calls.

its a plan that's not officially offered anywhere, you'd have to call Verizon and ask them to put you on it. I didn't know about it myself until I called once asking if I could just have data only onmy plan stating that I don't really use my phone for calls. they wouldn't give me data only(unless it was for a tablet) but then said they had a special 200 minute plan instead which aaved me $10/month so I took that.
Quick ?, I am new to Verizon. If I use google voice for sms does that go against my sms plan? Also If I use skype that wont go against my minutes? One more, If someone calls me on my google voice number does that use my minutes? Thanks for any help. By the way I am loving this phone even more than my epic touch!!!!

Google Voice uses only data. Your texts with GV do not count against your SMS limit.
Google Voice does not count toward your number of sms.
Skype does not count against your minutess.
Both count against your data.
Google voice forwards to your phone number, so it does use your minutes.

Mms is sent through data, always has been. You've probably never noticed when you've sent before a 3g or 4g signal pops up next to your wifi icon to allow sending and then disappears when done sending.

I have my old TBolt that is not activated (replaced with my Rezound). With a couple of market apps I can send email, text, and make calls all over wi-fi with the TBolt.

lol but really, 3g always turns on when wifi is on to send an MMS. today, it woudln't, even though mobile network was on....then 3 minutes later, it just turned on and started to send lol but i HAD 3g the whole time in my house. i turned off wifi for 1 pic, and it sent...so it was a problem with the phone turning the 3g radio on to send.

Does any of this mean the messages are not counting towards your texting totals? I don't see why they charge extra for texting, especially the amount that they charge. Does it put a big strain on the network or is a completely different thing or is it just because they can?

Yeah, I've got two tabs open in Firefox now reading about google voice. I'm worried about the whole phone number thing. I don't want to possibly lose it somehow by porting it over and I also read that I may be breaking my contract with Verizon by porting it and don't want those fees for sure.
I'm new to Verizon as of 11/23 and bought my phone from Amazon. I'll have to see what they say about porting it to google voice. Still looking into it but I think I need the unlimited texting and that's $20/mo which seems excessive to me.
Would it work to test out google voice with their assigned number and forward calls there just to try it out? Would texts forward? I know I'd still get charged for the texting doing it that way. Where do you see/get the texts? Same as usual or is there a different interface?
You will have a location like you would in Gmail, etc. where all the texts would show up. Believe me, a lot of people use this and never have any problems with vzw. Of cource you don't tell vzw you are doing this. If you root your phone you don't tell vzw you did it. My daughter took a rooted phone to a vzw store this weekend to get it activated. It had a sense 3.5 rom on it and they didn't say a thing to her. VZW employees root their phones.
But if you are worried, don't do it.

When you sign up for Google Voice they'll assign you a different phone number. This is your Google Voice number, and is only used for Google Voice calls and texts (more on that in a bit.) You can port your existing number, but I believe you'll need to pay the ETF as you're basically cancelling service on that line through Verizon. Probably not a good idea. If you don't port, you must associate the GV number with an existing phone number (probably your current mobile number.)
You can set this new Google Voice number up to transfer all incoming calls to the phone number you registered with GV. You can add other phone lines to the account, as well, and set up rules as to who gets forwarded to which number (also by time, I believe, but never tried that.) You can set up your voicemail on your phone to use GV as the voicemail provider. This means when your phone rings for an incoming call, instead of going to Verizon's voicemail, it transfers it to your GV number's voicemail, which you can read either through an app on your phone, or by using your phone's voicemail dial, if you set it up in Phone options.
You can use your GV number for SMS (not MMS, yet!) You can either have SMS to your existing number forwarded to your GV number, or the other way around, if you prefer. You can even have SMS to your GV number sent to an email address. You read/send SMS via the Google Voice app which is available on the Market. Yes, it is a different app and not the standard Messages app. You also get your voicemails through that app.
Now, here's the interesting thing, if you want to completely mask your "real" phone number on your phone, you can have Google Voice set up all your outgoing calls to go through your Google Voice number. They will still use Verizon's minutes, as I'm pretty sure all they are doing is having Verizon transfer the call directly into Google's telecom network which then "places" the call to whatever number you're calling. So by forwarding incoming calls people make to your GV number to your phone, and by making all your outgoing calls originate from your GV number, essentially you are hiding your mobile number, and providing yourself an extra layer of protection.
I don't think you can get full protection if you are using SMS, because while SMS to your GV number can forward to your phone, you can't "bounce" SMS from your phone through your GV number. If you reply to one of those, I believe it will go directly to the original sender. However, I haven't tested this, so I'm interested if anyone can confirm this or not.
And I say "protection" because Google Voice allows you to completely blacklist certain numbers. They will never be able to contact you via phone or text, if they don't know your real phone number. Useful if you have ex's that won't go away, or if you're just paranoid, like me.

On some networks, GV outgoing calls (using your GV number as your caller ID number) are counted as call forwarding minutes. They were on T-Mobile. I can't say for sure that they are on VZW because I don't use my VZW account enough (I just pay the bill )

I don't think Big Red distinguishes those minutes from regular airtime minutes. I've made GV calls and seen the minutes show up as calls to my GV number.

Figured I didn't need to quote the whole thing but it was very useful info.
So yeah, I'm worried about ETF and not having to change my number with all my friends etc...
I'm kind of interested in the voicemail aspects but mostly I'm hoping to save the $20/mo. for texting. It really irks me that any carrier charges for text messages. So if I keep my number with Verizon I would still incur message charges through them, right?
Too bad I didn't know about this before, I could have ported my real number to google voice before I switched to Verizon from AT&T. Seems weird that they tie it to the number and not that I'm still keeping the line active. I'm going to confirm that with them.
google voice callback- not the most convenient method, but free calls. I use it when I get too close to overage.

really annoying, i'm STILL getting issues where 3g will NOT kick in when wifi is on, to recieve or send. it's pissing me off now; this is JUST how the roms acted on the increidble. wtf?
