Hey XDA
I've a problem with my SGSII.
I've tried a lot different roms like CM7, CheckRom, Oxygen, miui to find the perfect rom to fix my battery usage(my phone usally last for MAX 1 day, even on low usage. (Is this normal??, my friend get like 5 days with his SGSII)
Anyway, on pretty much all of the ROMs above I've occurred a problem with my internet connection - When my phone is idle for a while I looser internet connection and then I have to restart my phone to fix it.
Anyone with similar problem?
Is my phone defect?
Any way to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
This is my first thread on XDA, I hope I did it correctly (I've checked out suggested threads btw)
the problem with the internet connection is because of the signal is not resetting itself. You can use signalreset (market) app as a solution otherwise flash a stock firmware ROM from sammobile and see whether the problem is solved!
My Wi Fi stops working the same way too. All I do is that I reconnect WiFi from the notification bar.

Thank you for such a great and fast answer!
I will check out Signalreset asap, however if it just en/disable flightmode I am not sure if it helps. Because when it happened I always try en/disable flightmode, without luck - I have to restart to make it work :-/
Soo... it's a generel failure in some deeper laying hard- or software, that's not dependent of the generel software-version.
I'm starting to hate my phone, as it is loosing connection again and again, but only after updating to KI8_NEE. There has not been ANY problems with KI3_NEE, which worked perfectly and rocksolid - and solved the same problem from the previous versions... KI8 may be smoother, but i prefer stability over this generel failure (there's a lot of generel faults, not just lost data-connection).
If that the case, i'm going to smash this phone, or put KI3 back on it... i have been so happy with it, but after upgrading to KI8 - i'm starting to develop a hate-relationship with it...
My old HTC might be slow - but it is dead-on stable...
After trying the signalreset it still doenst work properly.
Any suggestions?

What baseband are you on?
I'm on XWKI1 on AT&T in south Florida and my connection is rock solid now.
That was not the case when I first got the phone with the factory ROM and baseband.

No I dont, I've tried Juice Defender but it didnt help my battery life so I uninstalled it..
I've tried a few days with the stock unrooted and the problem didnt occur, however the internet was still extremely slow, even when I had full signal.
Is there an application to boost signal/speed and/or fix problems?

Omega and Wanam are not stock roms?
Its from the router. I had the same problem. In my hometown, no problem with wifi. In the town that I study, it reconnect every 5-10 minutes. Turns out it was the security. I set it to WPA2 from the router and no reconnects since.

Hi
i dont think that the router is the Prob. because i have set it to
- WPA2...don´t work
- set the wifi to open ..without passwort...don´t work
- change the chanel under 10....don´t work
- change wifi name....don´t work
- on the S3 set wifi/sleep to off...don´t work
but if i on AOKP/CM10 Roms all work fine....just Sammy based roms have this Prob.....strange
WiFi is kernel .

One word....WTF?
I think he means to try different kernels.
I've had Wi-Fi issues on and off with various Sammy ROMs
No issue with my setup below.

The stock samsung rom definitely has some wifi problems, I've posted previously about incorrect behaviors when using 40MHz sideband. No such problems on cyanogen 10.
Can you please open the build.prop of each of these ROMs and tell me what the value is for
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=
On my stock Samsung ROM (LTE international) this is set to 180
what ever your value is for yours, halve it and then tell me if that makes any difference?
So in this example change it to wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=90
You do this with a root browser app (free on this forum) http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=915223&d=1329956263
or rootexplorer. Make sure that you have read write permissions to exit the file by long pressing it in rootbrowser/explorer.
Save the build.prop with the new value. Change the permissions back to read only. Reboot the phone.
Test the change and see how it fairs against the previous rating (you say is very bad). If the phone is perfect, keep trying by adjusting the value is say 10 or 20 incriments back towards its original value. i.e. 90 is good. Change it to 110. Test it again.
The reason you want to do things like this is because whilst your wifi is on it will be scanning every 90 seconds instead of 180 and although this will maintain a solid connection it will more than likely impede battery performance. i.e your phone battery won't last as long.
You keep increasing in increments till you find a happy medium between maintained connectability and lost of battery power to increased scan rate.
IF however dropping it to 90 does not satisfy you with the connection strength (what ever your test is of transferring a large file of your liking?) then reduce the numerical value to less. I recommend that if you have gone to less than half of the standard rate already and your are not happy, that you test by reducing it in much smaller increments e.g from 90 down to 85.
After all of this, if you are not happy with the amount of consumption your battery is chewing on a lower rate for an "ok" connection then maybe you may want to look into flashing a different modem that is more suitable.
To give you an idea of just the type of thing that goes on in this Android world, my Galaxy S2 had a LPQ modem on it as standard from Optus. This was a very poor choice on Optus behalf cause for in order to maintain any sort of connection the wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=10
YES!! Every 10sceonds it was scanning to maintain connection. I switched to LPR modem and reduced my wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=360
The result was a great solid connection and much better battery performance.
I believe that the modem is not just deviced dependent, but also region (geographically) as well as provider dependent.
I can bet money on it that the issue you have is most definitely a not suited modem. Most of the time the providers give you the best modem for your phone on their network....and othertimes they are completely wrong and totally **** things up.
I flashed a Telstra 4G modem onto my Optus 4G S3.....I did not get any signal what so ever besides 4G. Wifi was average (to nearly no change). And that was after I had flashed the stock XXAI9 modem (UK) which had great signal and wifi across most areas but did not ever pick up 4G LOL.
Hope this information has proved valuable to you.
Regards,
James
PS: I have no idea where you are located or what network so can't even give you a vague recommendation as to what modem you should migrate to?
i cant find this line in this roms....just in ressuration rom.....can i copy this to Omegas build.prop ?
Hello
Yesterday I tried flashing my GT-I9300 with MIUI 4.9.20 rom with Danish language..
But I have some problems with the new rom.. My wifi and phone signal seems to have become unstable, when looking at the signal strength it jumps between full, low and no signal..
Don't know much about flashing roms, last time I did it was about year ago..
Looking at the forum, I see people talk about flashing modems etc. on the mobile.. Do I need to do this??
Anybody know how I can fix this?
If you need more information please ask..
I have recently resurrect my htc flyer from a soft brick and flash a custom rom . But when i was in custom rom my wifi signal was ridiculous low and i have to be right next to the router. Then i flash the stock one but the problem is still there... i made all kinds of wipes/formatting but no increase in signal for me.
Any suggestions ?
I'm using stock ROM at the moment and I'm only having 3 hours of Screen On Time in this which is extremely annoying to me. Is there any ROM / Kernal out there with a better Screen On Time ? Please let me know! Also post a picture of the SOT. Looking forward to flash as soon as possible Thanks
I'm interested this too. I'm no Flash o Holic, so i want to find best possible rom and forget it.
hi
now best rom is something u need to decide and battery life depends on ur usage ie calls, data usage wifi
mine is quite low on data and wifi and average calls im using CM13 i have used most of the roms but im confy with temasek give me a day and a half and i dont off my phone at night .Assuming u know that to use these roms u need to add TWRP their is a tute for that on the forum
