Think this could do with updating tbh!
We need a current list for the current firmware!
There's loads of apps in there which we don't know if we need, or are just wasting kb's of space!
CdfInfoAccessor.apk
Etc Etc..
Anyone know!?
You can remove all apks, that were removeable on 2.1.A.0.435, you can use my guide...
The new apks seem to be important, according to their names. Don't have time for experimenting atm, sorry.
But even with some more junk apks the new firmware is fast!
Flo95 where's your guide ?
I thought Flo95 should have put a link up too. This is one of the 1st thread to pop up when searched. Here it is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947974&highlight=remove+junk+apps
Yeah, sorry.
I was online with my phone so I couldn't post a link.
Thanks for posting the link

Hello,
I got a rom.zip file and I was wondering if it's possible to add/remove apps by removing or adding them to the /system/app folder? The reason I'm asking is becaused I pushed some files there but I never got the app properly working.
If I do it this way, will it work? Also, do you need to resign the rom or anything?
I am an amateur Dev, but yes you can, also, i.e. own an Evo 3D and in a lot of times developers add the data folder to there roms also for things like little market apps that people may or may not need, and can be uninstalled if they aren't needed. But yes you can add and remove apps in the ROM, and you need to have it signed, but I think their is a tool somewhere in these forums that makes it so that after you build the ROM, it signs it for you, maybe someone can clarify because the name of the tool skips my memory right now. But yes you just need to be sure its signed!

Suppose I should add shedloads of pointless exclamation marks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This doesn't seem like the place for the standard (and irritating) "use Google search" response. There's little to nothing about vstdata out there, which indicates that whatever the folder belongs to is somewhat new.
I'm not real concerned about this vstadata-DONOTDELETE matter, but it would be nice to know from where it sprang. I'll keep an eye on this thread. And on Google, of course. No exclamation points necessary.
Google search 3rd result, complete explanation.
Laziness. Waste.
Great first post btw...
Yeah, well maybe with practice, I can become as charming and popular as you. You sound like just a delight.
The third item in my Google search is in French. It might be a beautiful and elegant solution, but I can't read it. I'll find what I need in another forum. Thanks, though.
Thanks for your reply guys!!
I didn't find much in google search, hence posted here!! Anyways ll try backup my system and try

You have learned that to, be patient.
If he isnt secure in him self, or want some help (or somebody think) he ask for it.
I would do that to.
Sorry for troubling you guys.. I'm new to android and stuff.. Henceforth will make use of google search!!

Hi, thanks for getting back to me, I have figured it out all I needed to is remove app installer apk from the ROM using TB
By the way I'm stock using latest ICS released by at&t.
thank you...
could you please put the word "SOLVED" in your thread title ?
It helps users find the answers to their questions, and it keeps the threads clean.
Thanks !!......g
OK how do I do that ( put SOLVED ) ?
You can edit your original post...
simply find the "edit" button, and use it to open your mesaage, then you can change the title.
No big deal if you can't, it's just a suggestion....g
Hey mates, I got a question:
How can I modify the icons of an app? I want to modify the icons only from system apps....
I already searched this forum for a thread, but didnt find one, if you know i would be happy about a link
I know that there is an app that "changes icons of apps", but it only creates custom shortcuts, I need "real" new icons...
Hope you can help me

Quick and dirty method:
Download 7zip to your computer. Take the apk you want (camera, for example) onto your computer and open (not decompress) it with 7zip. Find any instances of icon.PNG within all the folders inside the res/ folder. Check their pixel dimensions. Ensure the PNG file you want to use is the same as the original file's. Copy New file and replace the original file in 7zip. Back out of the (example:camera) app using the back button in 7zip. That should do it. If it is an app like settings.apk or any other system dependant app, you need to flash it in recovery (best to just do it this way, regardless). Search the forum for instructions on that. If it is a system app updated via the market (gmail, maps, etc) you will have to redo this every time it updates.
Better method: find a thread here on how to theme, and change the above png using their instructions.
Wow thank you very much
it is systemapps that i want to change to original, i just came to the idea that i could also flash the original apps, I am stupid -.-
but i want to make my own theme anyways so thanks again

No prob. Read all you can! There is a lot of info on theming here, and several methods and programs available to help. I've tried several tutorials and did successfully make one theme.. the learning process is a bit painful. So start small and simple. Also an easy tip to remember: if you theme an app that is a paid app from anywhere, do not share it!!
I have no paid apps only a few books, but not really need them...
so, i wont even come to the idea to edit and share one

How do I search for and delete a spam ad in my operating system?
It shows up in my browser as adtracking.king.com/modules/(more stuff I cannot remember)...
I've searched everywhere and had no luck.
My phone is a Huawei M835 running android 2.2 which is rooted.
I've tried root Explorer, but cannot find /modules section.

the only way to delete it is uninstalling the app. turning off any connection to the internet works too i think.
can I delete it via file manager?? ...
I've taken the battery out several times and can see where that's not going to work much. So I'll turn off my internet right after I post this.
FYI: the ad seems like it's on a timer. Plus it keeps telling me different things such as "your phone is at risk", "free app of the day", "Samsung galaxy phone", and the URL is usually for candy crush saga, which not only doesn't work on this phone, the URL redirects me to Google Play Store.
Thank you for helping me out!!
Is there anything else I should try??
Get "airpush ad detector" , it is most likely some app that is causing this!
Delete the offending app.

new kernel means fewer problems likely ...
I'm not getting anything more than the network notice.
Airpush doesn't mention an app or anything else so I'm really not sure what to try next. On most Linux systems, when you disable or worse, delete the network manager - your out of business. The thing stops working. I'm 200 miles from the nearest metropcs store, so that's why I asked.
The bulk of Linux distributions don't have issues such as this, so that's why I'd rather put the new Linux kernel in. Plus, I'm very familiar with synaptic and a host of things that android simply doesn't have.
I've actually found a premium Linux installer which installs Debian and Ubuntu on your cell phone right from sourceforge.net.
Also, I did some research and metropcs offers phones up to android 4.0. No word if they're still going to run in 2015 when metropcs switches over from cdma to T-Mobile's gma network.
I'm sorry for the late reply. I was nearly killed in a motorcycle wreck in January (6 months ago) and I've been sick in bed for a while. I was in a coma for 4 1/2 months. My new bike was destroyed. Several broken bones. - So I apologize.
The URL showing up in the address bar is http://adtracking.king.com/modules/ad tracking /?com.=candy.crush.saga. Is there a way to hunt this /modules directory down in Root Explorer???
You could try adding the address to the hosts file in /etc/hosts

The problem sounds oh so much like a malicious app, did you install something just prior to this starting? Maybe pull a logcat and try to see if you can't track down what's doing this.
FYI a lot of free games will do exactly this, try a clean wipe and just installing what you need

another malicious app on my android phone?? ...
Shannon -2, demon - forum contributor
Thank you very much for getting back to me. Are there instructions or a thread that will help me do this?
Demon - I agree this is some balogna planted on my phone. Although I always use Google Play for my apps and never ever install games, I did get gingerbreak 1.2 from a non XDA source and I think that's the problem.
Is there a clean Gingerbreak link I can use??
Also, what android versions does XDA premium run on??? It's borked on my 2.2 version of android.
Just search "NexusHD2-gingerbread " by tytung

Shannon -2,
I looked up, and found tytung's posts regarding the ROM's and even found the posts for the new 4.2 ROM's then bookmarked the posts too.
Since a few mods got mad and deleted the download links, is therĂª a place that will allow users to download the ROM's we need?
Also, will these ROM's work on non -HTC cellphones?? (Such as my huawei M835).
I honestly don't know how to determine if my phones have the type of / version of software listed to run the ROM's tytung's listed in his posts. - I read most of his posts in on huge thread, including the new screen he created with other Developers. I just don't have the knowledge yet to decipher if this is appropriate for my two phones or not.
Since your an experienced developer, will the XDA premium app run on android 4.0 or higher and let us post??
Lastly, is there a Developer that I can Pay to updated my ROM?
Thank you Shannon!!
AFAIK all versions are supported by xda app.
If you search on google you will find links to tytungs roms, the mods don't want links posted here!!
Search for 'NexusHD2 Android forum' and you will find guides for installation on all of these roms.
No, these roms are specific to the HD2 hardware so won't work on your huawei M835.
If you want a fluid rom go for the gingerbread version, the 4.x roms have some lag!
If you have any problems post back here.
Good luck with it.

I deeply appreciate your help and most of all, your patience.
I will search for the instructions right away.
BTW: I can't get XDA Premium to install on my Huawei M835 at all. The free version lets you send pm's, but won't let you post. - Something I hope to fix once I update my phone.
