I was kinda thinking the same thing. Maybe improvements to the software will be made in the release version resulting in better quality. Either way, this trumps my crappy Samsung Moment camera!
It looks like the camera on the E3D really SUX! The pix don't look any better then ones taken from my old Blackberry Curve.
HTC build nice phones, but they need to really do something about their camera sensors/software. Don't they realize it's 2011 and not 1999?
This is the one area Samsung owns HTC.

I don't understand, in this day and age, how a camera in a phone is as bad as those pix look on Picasa!
Where does HTC even get their cameras from? It's like they went into a old junk drawer and found a bunch of 10+ year old camera sensors, so they decided to use them.
They say you can take 3D pix and video, but with a camera like that, you won't be able to tell what you took a pic or video of. It really makes me think the 3D part is really more a gimmick then anything else and any pic or video you take in 3D will be a joke.
WE dont even know if these really ARE from the 3d.

They are probably from Team Six's new Nokias.
From my soon to be Evo 3D
I would certainly trade the 3D part for a single high quality 5 megapixel camera on the new EVO. Oh, I'll throw in Sense too!

if you were going to give up 3d, wouldn't you trade it in for a 8mp camera instead of a single 5mp
Not if it the same sensor and lens in our current evo.

just download the pics from the page, open them up in amost any viewer, right click on the image, check the properties, or info tab, and it will state PG86100 took the picture. It's the model number of the Evo 3d, so there's your proof. I doubt somebody would edit the EXIF information on a picture just to make the camera look this bad, but you never know who upped these pics either, could be a competitor.

Different screen technologies. The Evo uses a parallax screen which blocks one eye from seeing what the other eye can see which creates the 3D effect. See here for more info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallax_barrier
Hence when you close one eye you lose 3d because you arent seeing one of the images at all. And when you are looking at 3d media if you change the viewing angle a lot the image will flutter.

It's magic LOL
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
because the 3d on the evo is a gimmick, and 3d on tvs is not.
TV uses glasses with a shutter IIRC, wherein the glasses simulate a left/right motion or up/down (or both) 120+ times a second to help create the 3d effect.
Or I could be totally wrong, I'm just trying to recall what I was told....
Shutter Glasses are vital signs for creating a 3D effect. The shutter glasses are basically an expensive pair of glasses, which has a layer liquid crystal on lenses that turns dark when voltage is applied. Infrared help in signal transmission to sync the Shutter Glasses with the 3D TV set and it’s electronic circuits controls them in creating the 3D impact, when they are worn while watching TV.
The content for 3D are basically pulled out from three major sources.

All I know, my head hurts when watching too much 3D on an in-home 3D TV.
EVO 3D it isn't too bad.
Cool
And the reason why they don't make TV's like this?

Proximity... You'd need to remain in a relative position to have optimum viewing of the displayed media for the EVO 3D.
I can sit in almost any location where our 3D TV is located and have a decent view of the screen still.
EVO 3D, I have to keep it in a good somewhat consistent location to view it decently.
The wikipedia posting above has a lot of good information for how our phones work.

Because the screen on the 3vo requires your eyes to be between certain distances from the screen, and facing it head on in order for the effect to work. With TV, people will all be watching from different angles and distances, so it won't work for that.

Toshiba is working on glasses free 3dtv. They had a prototype of them at this past CES in January. It worked pretty good and you didnt have to stay in one spot or view it face on.
I can't find the link (more like too lazy right now), but it was just out at a convention in China I believe...
Lenticular lens lay over sheets to be placed on devices up to 23" for an affordable price are coming out in the near future it looks like.
Glasses-less 3D TV's are just around the corner... We're not that far off in technology land.

Oh well that sucks. That would be about the only reason for wanting it IMO. 1080p is probably gonna look like crap just like it did on the OG Evo. I would have rather they used some of the time & money giving us 1080p & used it to give us a better camera cause the one on the OG Evo sucked balls & the one on the 3D isn't that much better.

What phone are you coming from if you don't mind me asking cause the camera on the OG Evo sucked balls & the one on the 3D isn't much better. The camera on my Pré took better pics even though it was no where near 8MP. Like somebody else said HTC sucks at making or buying cameras. The 3D made my 6th or 7th HTC phone & even though I liked them all the camera was always lacking. Especially the last couple ones when compared to other phones on the market.

flash adds a green tint to pictures, supposed to be fixed by an ota like last week according to some posts here, but hasn't been remedied yet.
So the green tint is a software issue then.. I can handle that. Do other camera apps have that green tint carried over?

Good, because with all the issues just trying to get fully working ROMs and proprietary drivers not being made available, its just not worth the effort. Things will be faster if 3D drivers are not part of the equation.

I can't say that I am even a little sad. The 3D was a joke. I wish I had never changed from my Evo 4G. The hardware, while I guess was nicer, wasn't worth the upgrade. The 5MP camera wasn't as good as the 8MP. Not to mention the 3D driver issues. The only positive thing I have to save is that the physical camera button was nice.
