[Q] Problem with TV out of my Vibrant T959 - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi dear xda developer citizens )))
I purchased a Samsung Vibrant T959 phone.
but having a troubles connecting it to TV via 3.5mm tv out.
I am using a Nokia CA-75U cable as recommended in many places but it is not working.
I am having some terrible noises on the TV screen.
I already searched this forums and found some threads about this issues.
in many of them it says that i should use the nokia cable but i already did and its not working =(
i also tried to switch the PAL and other mode but it didn't helped me too =(
any ideas how can i fix this?
Thank you in advance!

and I also tried to change places the red, yellow and white jacks. it also didnt worked =( i'm still having a terrible noises on the TV screen
however the signal is sent to TV cos there is a something appears on the TV screen but completely cant see anything. only noises and other stuff.
btw, I just want to know, is my phone has some problems or i just have to try another TV OUT cable?
P.S.
sorry for noob questions, i'm just very very new to this phone )

Make sure and use NTSC in the us. Also make sure the cable is all the way in. I had that problem when I first got my phone as well. If the cable has three rings then they all have to be popped into the Jack. The last click is a bit harder than when you plug in headphones so its easy to miss it. Don't be afraid to push the plug in pretty hard. Also if your using a custom rom you may want to check to make sure it supports video out.

I already tried to push it really hard.
it is pushed to maximum!
but still cant make it work =(
and also tried to use both PAL and NTSC but it didnt worked either. =(
by the way, what you mean with custom rom?
what is that?
sorry for dumb questions ) i'm soo noob =(
oh yes, and one more thing!
my nokia cable has a big metallic stuff on its back.
can it prevent it from getting all way inside?
P.S.
i'm not trying to watch avatar on the TV. i know, it'll not work cos its drm file.
but nothing else works. no screen, no web browser, no even sound.
however th signal was sent to TV cos I can see some noises on TV
how do you thing, is my phone is defective?
or i shud just try antoher cable

Check my threads. I found a ipod cable on amazon that finally worked. Ill post a link later today

omg, dude, i read your posts and understood that not every cable works with it.
I have same situation like you. I had an original Nokia cable that camed with my fathers Nokia N95 8gb but it didnt worked. (however some people say that it worked for them)
by the way, when you had a problems with this, did you have the same terrible noises on the TV screen? or something else?
Oh yes, plis gimme the link to the cable that worked for You

You did turn tv out on on the phone right? Not saying your an idiot but there have been so many threads about this and over half was because the person did not flip the tv out on on the phone. I can say that mine works fine with the zune cable with two colors flipped around on the cable.
I am just asking about the switch so don't take it as me putting you down, it has been a commonly missed item.

If you flash a new rom like cyanogenmod then TV out wont work. But if your on the stock rom you should be good. Ive used a few different cables... one from an iPod and one from a digital camera and a few generic ones and I haven't had one not work yet. One of the generic ones had a bit of uneven plastic at the end that prevented it from being pushed all the way in so you might check for that. Also as stated above, make sure TV out is enabled.
The TV will generally pick up noise even when the cable isn't plugged into anything so unfortunately that's not nessiarily an indication that its working... (try plugging it into the TV and touch the other end with your finger, you'll see what I mean.)

reddragon72,
Yes yes I already red all of the topics about this TV Out problems on this forum
and tried tu push it really hard. but its on maximum.
firefly6240,
i havent installed any other ROMs
i bought it just about few days ago.
I think it also can be cause of that plastic thing on the end of the cable that prevents it to get all the way in.

so guys, what else I can do to make it working?
or if its cause of the cable, can you please advice me which cable I should buy?
Thank you in advance =)

this might be a dumb question, but what does the cable you have look like?
is it red white and yellow plugs on one side and a 1/8th inch plug with three rings on the other?
or is it just red/white with two rings?
or just yellow/white with two rings?
the ones I've got to work have red white and yellow with three rings.

my cable is Nokia CA-75U cable.
here is the photo on ebay if you didnt figure it out:

here is another photo that i found on net:

Works, dirt cheap, dont have to switch cable colors.
And yes. I always got fuzzy sound and distorted image with others I ordered and wasted my time with.
Yw.

Thank you for the link dude =)
P.S.
I found that cable also on ebay )
will buy from there cos amazon dont want to ship it to my location =( (i'm out of US right now)
oh yeah, and here is it on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Audio-Video...437384?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item415a372408
i think they are similar =)
I will also order few other Tv out cables and lets just see which of them works.
I will post here as soon as I get them and will tell you know which cables are working )
for statistics =P

I can also confirm that this cable works with the Vibrant:
Dynex DX-IPAVC.

I purchased mine at Best Buy for $9.99 a while ago but they no longer carry it. I bought it for my crappy Insignia Media Player but it's also meant for IPod (not IPod Touch or IPhone). I plugged it into my Vibrant, enabled TV-Out and voila! It works! Yellow plug for video, red/white audio. I think Amazon has it:
http://www.amazon.com/Dynex-DX-IPAVC-composite-mini-phone-4-pole/dp/B000MAET1O
Or just google Dynex DX-IPAVC and see where it's cheapest. I'm guessing any cable that does TV-out for IPods should work as long as they're not for IPod Touch/IPhone.
NOTE: At first I couldn't get this cable to work. I read through this thread about not having the cable pushed in all the way..It turns out the case I bought for my Vibrant was preventing the plug from being inserted all the way in. I removed the case and now it goes in all the way and TV-out works great!

Hey guys)
Just ordered two cables from Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260567288607
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...6&si=umjAzdDBJbmTdk9cATzbFA5dx3o%3D&viewitem=
Hope they will work =)
I'll write in this thread as soon as I test them so the other people will know which cables are working =)

YAAAAY =)
Good news everyone! =)
today I received this cable:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260567288607
and it worked with my Vibrant =)
very coool )
just bought NOVA and playing it on my TV =)
anyways, if you want a working cable take it )
it will work =)
and by the way, thanx to everyone who helped me with choosing the cable =)

I was having the same problem also but to fix my issue I plugged 'red' into 'yellow' and 'white' into 'white' and left the yellow plug out.
This worked for me.
Just my 2.

My cable is also meant for IPod (not IPod Touch) and works fine with my Vibrant's TV out. So just get any IPod AV cable and you should be all set.
Oh and make sure you plug it in all the way. The case I bought for my Vibrant was blocking the plug from going all the way in. I have to remove the case if I want to use TV out, something to keep in mind if you just bought a cable and can't get it to work. Time to find another case....or maybe I'll just cut a larger opening in the case with an exacto knife....hmm...

hahah guys, today I received my second cable for Samsung galaxy s xD
this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...6&si=umjAzdDBJbmTdk9cATzbFA5dx3o%3D&viewitem=
and its not working xD
however Ipod cable works well xD
anyways, never order samsung galaxy S cables for Vibrant xD
cos they will not work with him xD

Updating with just the patched classes, instead of the update.zip due to complaints. Inside you will find the source to the app (yeah doing it in Settings.apk would be better, I'm being lazy) and the modified classes for services.jar. This is not working yet, it is being uploaded so other devs can tinker as well. We need kernel source before this will work, more than likely.

From what I have gathered, there are three common types of cables most people might have hiding in their closet. There are multiple devices that use these types of cables, but most of them tend to follow those pinouts. If we definitively find out the right layout, you can mod a cable you already have, or get them for dirt cheap off of ebay/monoprice (fully recommended, they have nice cables for cheap).

A) Samsung Galaxy S official cable, Nokia (cable #CA-75U), cables that come with most Media Players (Archos, Gigabeat, Creative, Zen Vision, Cowon iAudio, Apple iBook)
B) Standard Camcorder cable -This is the most likely kind that you'd find at a store if it doesn't specify what it is for.
C) Zune
D) iPod Video
Quick Fix
Some cables you already have can be used without modding the cable, even if the pinout isn't the same.
Type B/C/D device with a different Type B/C/D cable
By plugging the video plug into one of the audio channels, and vice versa, you can swap the signal without cutting your cable. Refer to the chart to see which audio channel to plug the video into.
Type B device with a Type A cable
Plug the cable in all the way, then pull it out one notch. You will have only one working audio channel though, so this will sacrifice audio quality.
What type do I have?
If you have a multimeter, it is easy to find which type of cable you have. Set your multimeter to resistance (ohms). Put one lead on an RCA signal pin, then touch the other to each of the 4 spots on 3.5mm jack. Whichever one shows ~0 ohms means that that RCA signal is connected to that spot on the jack. Some MM have a continuity mode that will beep whenever you make a closed circuit. This is easier since you don't have to look at the MM while you are doing this.

Our tests were inconclusive, as we only had one cable of an unknown pinout and one tester. We have gotten rid of all errors, the device sees the cable now, runs the service and communicates with the service.
Patch is for Superclean based on eb01 with voodoo. I am not responsible for any thing that happens due to this patch. Please don't apply unless you know what you are doing and can recover a "soft brick" on your own.

What the!!!??
Have you actually gotten to see anything on the screen yet?? I'm going to bust this out and try it now. I have my own cable that has been sitting in the packaging for weeks just waiting for someone to come out with this. I will test it out and report back shortly. I have no qualms about bringing my Fascinate back from the dead if I bork it ...
If this works, and something actually shows up on the TV, super big thanks!
Wait as in a micro usb to composite/component? HDMI?
Wait, wha? This would be awesome!
Before I blow $40 on cable ... do you know if this is supposed to only work for analog NTSC output or if HDMI output over the microUSB is one of the available options?
edit: sorry finakechi, you beat me to it.
Subscribed.
3.5mm to RCA, we haven't gotten output to the screen. I ordered a grip of cables and a fascinate, but it wont be til friday when I can test it.
Testing shows it seems to work, and nolonger errors. We just haven't gotten output. I posted here with hopes of someone having a working cable with the right pinout, or another dev picking up interest and joining us.
the usb to hdmi cable is to costly and I won't be looking into it unless someone sends me one. I think RCA is good enough.
I know we have two cables at work that are from two different digital cameras..they both work with their respective cameras but only one works with the fascinate and the vibrant phones we have here... the pinout looks the same though... so you may be getting output and you just don't know it yet.
Got an error report:
<fuzzhead> i do think your app/patch is kind of working or trying to work though. i opened gallery and video player and both fc'ed while i was playing with rcas. leads me to believe it was trying to output
If someone with experience using logcat can reproduce this, and get me the log it would greatly help.

If the cable doesnt work, switch out the wires, it might not be yellow that is video out. Also if it doesnt work, then we just investigate further.

Hahaha. That is a little bit of an "oopsie."
Edit: Well, this is weird. I installed the patch, and now it's doing the robotic female voice and taking forever to reboot. I wiped caches and such, but I don't remember changing any voodoo settings ... hmm. Yeah, it's still talking to me. Weird. We'll see what happens. I'm on EB01, but not a superclean. Suppose locking up a phone is as good a reason as any to try a new ROM.
Well, after a successful boot, the app indeed runs and lets me change settings without any apparent issues - no force closes, etc. I have the mini jack to the three RCA breakout cables. It's the Dynex brand from Best Buy (purchased when I still had employee discount, of course!) With TV Out enabled or disabled (I tested PAL and NTSC both just for fun) I couldn't get the TV to display any audio or video regardless of how I plugged each cable in - red, white, or yellow. I am going to have to find some cable clamps and do some individual circuit testing and see if it's send out any signal at all, and trace it. It should at least be sending out some kind of audio, because I tested regular stereo headphones, and they still work. I'm excited to monkey around with this a bit. If I can narrow down which signal is going where on the 3.5 to RCA adapter cable I have, I can at least detect, hopefully, that audio is still being sent properly, and even more hopefully, if there is a pos/neg combo that will magically be a video signal. No more time to work on this tonight though.
Thankyou, jcase. I am waited for it, will beta test it as soon as get my cable.

I don't get it, what's the point. The phone reads the USB storage? What would the application for such a setup be?
EDIT: Will the phone actually read data from an attached USB drive setup like this? That actually would be super cool if it works that way now that I re-think it (sorry tired from being overseas, my head is kinda out of it). If it works like that I'm in for one for sure.
yes it works natively.you just plug in, wait for the notification to tell you its scanned and its ready to go.
edit: and just like plugging into your computer, make sure you select the unmount option in the notification bar when you are done to keep from corrupting it

Seems like the tablet (or a laptop) would be better suited for that, but I guess, hehe
true but my laptop has been reduced to a desktop (battery life is shot) and im planning on selling my tablet soon cause the cool factor is no longer there for me, its more hassle than not you know.

Yeah, I don't get it why the tablet market has stayed so strong. I have an iPad 2 for the SOLE reason of it's battery life as a media player when I travel. I literally do NOTHING with it except use it as a media player. Kinda annoying carting it around the world along with my MacBook air, but the battery life at 10 hours just makes it unable to be replaced by a laptop, and the screen size is perfect for airplane\airport\hotels without having to get out the laptop.
do you like your air? ive actually been considering replacing my tablet with an air... i know this is a "love android hate apple" forum but i like what i like. i thought about putting the money i get from the tablet towards oen

I'm not the type to take sides. I've gone from iPhones to Android on the phones, but I've been around the block with Android tablets and they're not fully baked yet. For a tablet I want a dumbed down device that just lasts forever and does 1 thing well - MEDIA. That's why I have iPad 2.
As far as the MacBook air goes, yeah, it's hands-down the best laptop I have ever owned, and I've been around the block. Apple designs a solid laptop, and with the form factor you can't go wrong. I've been Mac for about 5 years, and keep downsizing (Macbook Pro to Macbook to now Macbook air) ... I have an iMac for my primary computer (desktop), and I'd say spend some time with an Air at the store to see if it's a fit for you if you're using as primary computer, maybe consider the 13" (mine is 11").... but it's AMAZING for portability and overall use. Even though it's been out for 2 years it still turns heads in coffee shops and airplanes, and is still as fun to use as the day I got it.
Not really sure why people on here are so anti-mac sometimes. Some of the devs use mac, and there's developer support, but I guess some people just become tunnel-visioned with their fanboyism. I'm an equal opportunity fanboy of Apple and Android. You have to be logical and realize that Apple does some things well, and Android does things well. If people couldn't diversify their selection we'd all have Hyundai Cars, Hyundai Microwaves, Hyundai TVs, and everything the same.... this would would suck that way haha.
Had one of these from my Nokia E6. Works like a champ, but making these 2 USB host each other creates a space time warp. lol
Just bought one! cant wait to try it out. Is there a way to hook up two usb devices at the same time with a splitter?

You need an external hub - and the phone needs NTFS support.
I'll add the NTFS modules in my next release, but do note - NTFS drives must be mounted manually to my knowledge.

I haven't seen anyone post about the MHL capabilities of the DNA yet so I figured I'd try my adapter from my Nexus... it works fine with the cheap 5 to 10 dollar ones you can buy on amazon... you just need to be sure that you power the adapter it wont work without external power

I also have a mhl adapter from pny but I did not connect power to the adapter and the external display worked. Was your display on the phone and tv laggy or smooth after you connected the adapter? Were your videos in sync with the image produced on the phone itself?

With licensed MHL technology it is a real 30 frames per second so there's no delay and the sound quality is great when playing even advanced games. My kids love MHL, they only want to watch Netflix kids programs now without painful commercial interruptions.
The only thing to be aware of with Android MHL is that some sites block the HDMI port out. Two examples are Hulu+ and HBO (they don't block it from iOS). Most others, like Netflix and almost all web streaming sites works perfect. Google Play has an amazing picture quality on the newer videos when you rent them, absolutely clear 1080p resolution if you have enough WiFi bandwidth. The best use of MHL is to show photos and videos though on the big screen TV. The quality with good adapter is near perfect and the phone is charging while you are doing it too.
The "cyber Monday" price for an iBOLT complete MHL adapter kit with 6ft HDMI cable and the required 1 amp microUSB wall charger is only $24.95. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll check back daily here. Here's a YouTube video showing the technology and the kit I was referring to. The Samsung OEM has a very good reputation if you don't like this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmaKIJ90Xz4&feature=plcp
The image and everything was in sync... Sounds were good I watched a little but of transformers... The picture looked like crap but that is because it's compressed over Google play... You tube looked great

I bought one and it works well, but the framerate seems a little slower. It is usable, but certain apps seem to not allow being shown via the HDMI such as NFL Mobile and Hulu Plus.
The Samsung adapter for GSIII works on the DNA.
I have experienced issues with hardware accelerated subtitles using the MHL cable. Viki shows video but no words and that is kind of useless for me. Fortunately downloaded subtitles play in MXplayer with the software subtitle option.

I think I know the answer to this question but I will ask anyway...lol
Is there any MHL to HDMI adapter cables that do NOT need an external power source for the adapter? Seems kinda crappy to have to plug power into the adapter,
If so, a link to one would be greatly appreciated
Just put my order in to upgrade from my Thunderbolt to the DNA. Figure I will want to get a wireless charging pad, the MHL to HDMI adapter, and a micro USB to USB to mount external storgae.
As an aside...I cannot believe no company has actually created a micro USB to Micro SD adpater cable! I saw some links to threads here where people actually built their own...pretty cool...but hard to believe no company has stepped up for this. With the form factor fo phones moving more towards the DNA, One X, etc, I would think those would sell like hotckaes!
While browsing this thread I came to wonder about the DNA's mirroring. So when the right cable is connected, mirroring becomes available? Makes me wonder if a cable exists that might be micros USB on one side and (don't laugh) RCA on the other. My car's head unit had an add-on that allows RCA video inputs to display on the nav screen. It worked back when I used an iPad occassionally.

dock connector layout

Can anyone who has the dk30 dock connector throw it on a tester to find out which pin is positive and which is negative in relation to the phone? I have my ultra coming today and would like to cnc myself a few docks (One for the shop, one for home and a wider dock plate for my truck) at my shop instead of buying 3 docks and customizing one for the truck.. I am planning on using some thick acrylic to make the docks. I will share the results here when I get them done.
Thanks!
Someone has to have purchased one of these docks who has a simple voltage tester!
After reading the bad reviews on the dock, I want to start making these custom docks. I have everything I need to make the docks except the pin layout on the device. I don't want to risk applying current backwards seeing the connector is only able to be installed one way.
All I need to know is which pin is positive and I can make the mold for the docks.
I would like to know this too! Please someone with the DK30 make a quick measurement!
Regards
parts ordered
I have pogo pins, micro usb breakout boards, and small rare earth magnets on order. I plan on making a mold for a connector which can be used in different dock configurations. I have a cnc router so can simply make either wood or plastic docks (maybe even aluminum) to receive the custom connector. If all goes well, I should be able to reproduce them. If someone can take this reading for me, I will send them a dock when I complete them (only the first person). I will also post the results in a new thread. 4 days with the ultra and I'm already sick of the doors over the ports. I can do better than the sony dock for sure!

I made a prototype out of some white corian while waiting for the rest of the parts to come in. I ultimately want to be able to plug a micro usb into the back of the dock as that is mainly what I have everywhere already. The full sized usb on the Sony dock is just stupid! Anyway this is just a quick one.. no magnets, just gravity to make the connection. I will be making an improved version as soon as my parts come in. I also plan on incorporating an nfc tag so I can set up the phone to open car mode when on the road, a clock when next to the bed, etc.

I'm not sure why I would want to use the dock at the same time as connection ting the device Over USB. I use wireless transfer for files and seldom have a reason to plug in other than for charging. In fact I Wonder if there would be a problem connecting 2 power sources at once.
USB can be use for plug OTG as well. Like usb keys, xbox controller and as much usb devices android accept. It is true that each person use things differently, prior use for me when I finally will get a dock will be for can use OTG and charge my phone in the same time. As main reason I limit use of Keyboard, mouse and xbox controller on android devices is mainly because I can't charge in same time. Magnetic charging really seduced me ^^

I am waiting on some micro USB breakout boards as well as Some magnets to play around with. I will keep this current design for use at my shop, but am planning a car dock and one for next to the bed. Both will have a nfc chip embedded in them. I will post the final product here or will more than likely link to a new thread. I have to see how long they take me.. I have a lot of work at my shop right now. If I can make an easily repeatable design I may make a few to sell.. I'll let you know....

Everybody definitely has their own preference! I use a bluetooth mouse, keyboard and controller. Otg was way too cumbersome, especially when having to use a powered hub. I love the ultra because i can log in remotely to my computer and tweak cad drawings on the road if in a pinch using the mouse and keyboard.. the screen size and resolution on this thing are great. Bluetooth just works so much better for me. i have never had a need to attach a thumb drive to my phone.
A dock which allows you to access the usb port would be easy enough though. I simply don't ever want to open the door to the usb port again Hell, I may even make a custom connector for use with a power pack so that can use the dock pins as well!

For me nothing is more reliable than a wire connection "fastest, most stable and never need to charge". I agree wireless is more comfortable but not work better.

Looks good , will you be making a version that works with a case on the phone ?
For example I'm using a Incipio DualPro That I cut & modified in the spot
were the Magnet charger hooks up . I would be interest in both car & desk mount
if it would work with my case on & a set of both for when I don't use my case .
THANKS for the update .
Any Updates on your docks ???
Was also wondering if you might want to tackle a project & make a belt clip the phone can
slide in similar to this 1 , but maybe with the holder section on the magnet side placed above
& below the charge section . I would be very willing to pay for a couple & a friend who has the
Z ultra also would like a couple . I'm sure there is a market for it .
link to example of what I'm talking about .
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Hard-...t=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&hash=item3f29d6db91
I am talking about just the section are Phone would slide into so we can clip it onto our belt , computer bag , backpack , pocket , ect ...
please let me know what you think ??? :fingers-crossed:
These car docks could turn into your next business venture.
I'm an OTR truck driver. I use my Note 2 for all the normal stuff plus I have a truck GPS that runs on it. Needless to say that it is on my dash 24x7 due to other trucking apps. One of my big problems is due to the vibration USB ports don't last long. I love the magnetic charge. I like the high sides for control of the unit. I do have 110 volt power running to the dashboard to plug things in.
If you decide you are going to make a few of these let me know how much. I'm sure truck drivers will eat these up. I can see where these phones and going to be popular. For those who don't know for a truck driver to basically pick up their phone and dial it the fine for him us over $2000. The fine that goes to the company for the same offense is over $11,000. If you are lucky enough to be an owner-operator you get to pay both fines. The use of the processor, OK Google, and other voice command features will explode with this type of phone. We are still allowed to use bluetooth to talk and you can press the button on the side of your headset to do things.

How is this not the norm? Reversible micro-USB

About a month ago I was browsing a website called "dudeiwantthat.com" that has all sorts of random cool stuff that I've often never heard of (I love that site). And I came across a reversible Micro-USB adapter, I believe the brand then was called McFlip, or something similar. I checked out and it didn't explain much, like whether it supported Quickcharge or anything like that. I was in the middle of something and kinda forgot about it. A couple days ago it popped back into my head and I asked a handful of friends if they've ever seen anything like that and they were all shocked to hear it existed. So I just googled the term to see if there were any others that ARE QuickCharge and found this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Cambond-Reversible-Charging-Braided-Connecting/dp/B00V3FRZPE
braided cable, QuickCharge, reversible Micro-USB adapter. I'll be picking up a few myself. But figured I'd let everybody else know in case some of you think it's as cool as I do. After having an S5 for so long, and what a pain it was just to plug that thing in, finding out there's a cable that i don't even need to worry about being upside down. And the pricing isn't bad for what looks like a durable cable that will be a cinch to use tired, in the dark, whatever. I plan to do a review for it when I get it. But if someone already has one, or gets one before me, please let me know how it is. IMO every micro-USB cable made now should be like this. Seems like common sense to me
I backed the MicFlip on Indegogo, and 1000 years later once I received the product, I was pretty disappointed. It was super finicky, only working if wiggled in my Nexus 6, and won't work in my s7 at all. Obviously other brands will vary, but that left a bad taste in my mouth for them.

sorry about that. I know the McFlip was the micro side, but aparently it was a good concept with **** execution. But it sounds like there are some companies making quality ones with the reversible micro plug. Though it's almost too ironic that they finally come up with something like that just in time for the death of Micro USB. And USB-A as a whole for that matter

Quick charge has nothing at all to do with the cable. It's negotiated between the phone and the charger. Any Micro USB cable will work.

It isn't possible to have a reversible micro USB plug. The female receptor is shape dependent, unlike the full sized USB connector which is non-shape dependent..

Not at all. The head rotates. It can still ONLY be inserted in one (and only one) orientation. It's the same thing as turning the cable upside down. You would simply be rotating by the head instead of the cable. If you try to insert the male micro USB head into the female receptor, it still will only work if it is turned the right way.
In contrast, the full sized USB head (in this case) can be inserted either way, without rotation.
The result is still that the micro USB connector side is still not reversible.

I have three of the McFlip cables. They all work fine. What I'm waiting on is one with a detachable magnetic tip. Hoping my ZNaps gets shipped soon!
I have the blitzwolf cable, and all I can say is WOW. I have had a lot micro usb cables, but never before such an awesome quality. The cable itself is so heavy and full of copper, you can bend it and then it stays that way. WOW.
The connectors, on both ends are reversible and of Mega high quality. not super-high, but mega-high. period
