So my dad just bought a Dell Streak off craigslist and he came home with it and there are a TON of problems with it. First off, its purple and I have never seen a Purple Dell Streak. Second, the 3G doesn't work, it can't get system updates for some reason, its laggy, and when I try to put it into fastboot it gives me this other weird screen that asks me if I want to test stuff, and doesn't even mention anything about fastboot mode so im stuck.
It's also stuck on 1.6 and I have no idea where to go from here. I was able to root it though.
Has anybody else gotten one of these weird purple dell streaks? any advice?
It could be an aftermarket shell or something regarding the purple,
could you take a screenshot of the about screen and write down what it says exactly in fastboot mode?
no problem...
I can't get into fastboot, but when I boot it into bootloader mode it gives me the following menu:
MMI BB test
X MMI wireless test
X *#7589
X Dock test
Device info display
SD download
X USB massstorage
X Auto loop test
Into DIAG mode
Factory Reset
Clear flag
and at the bottom of the screen it gives me the following highlighted in purple:
DT: A2.503 Built Date: Oct 12 2009, 14:04:14
and since i am a new member, I am not allowed to post links but heres the information in the about device tab:
Model Number: MO1M
Firmware Version: 1.6
Baseband version: AUS_GAUSB1A1001251
Kernal Version: 2.6.29-perf
OEM Version: unknown
Build Number: 77720
I also forgot to mention that the android market is not available, and none of the stock google apps are loaded such as navigation, maps etc.
oh! you have a pre-release rom, those are extremely rare and it's likely one of the units quisda/dell used when they were making the streak.
there's a possibility that it's not even hardware identical to a retail streak since it's likely half a year older then the first retail streaks.
If you could make a nandroid of that it'd be great, considering it's age it might not be a good idea to try loading a retail rom onto it.
ok, how would I do the nandroid?
and also, will I be able to fix my phone? lol it super laggy and doesn't work very well...
Do you know how to use fastboot? if you do install streakmod in the dev forum
if you dont, use multirecovery flasher and install streakmod though that
When I try to boot into fastboot, it loads the menu above. Is there another way to boot into fastboot?
I dont know, if the fastboot button isnt there it's because it has a different program loader
Are you entering fastboot mode correctly? it's shutter +power during power on
oh well, I guess i'll just play around with it and maybe ill figure something out...if you learn anything let me know
thanks

yepp, and it brings up the above screen...
you might want to try other random button combos during boot up and see if any of them work
Thanks for the tip, holding the volume down button put it into fastboot. Im going to try to flash streakmod now and see if it works...
ok I flashed streakmod recovery and now my streak won't start anymore. I am able to put it in fastboot mode, but when I try to start my streak the screen goes black after the dell logo, and it doesn't boot.
That doesnt sound right, how did you install it? flashing a rec shouldnt do that
I flashed it using multirecoveryflasher and then rebooted and then held both volume buttons and then selected 'software upgrade from update.zip'. The screen went blank after I selected that, so I waited, and still nothing happened so I had to take out the battery. I tried to start the phone after that and now it won't go past the dell logo and just shows a black screen. I tried connecting it to a computer and that didn't work either.
try and find safe mode, on a normal streak it's vol up + power
mabye that would help?
If you have the ability, join us on irc.freenode.net, #dellstreak
This way we can do something real time. I know TheManii has real interest in ALL of the variants of the ROM and devices, and he is there frequently. Hopefully we'll see you there.
could you please upload one or two photos of the purple streak? would love to see what it looks like
any word on this, i have the same one
If you have a prototype streak, it's worth absolutely nothing as a normal phone. Anything you install will just brick it and you wont be able to fix it.
Only thing it's worth is for the prototype rom on it

Well, after spending almost 11 hours trying to boot into recovery or download, I know for sure that there is something going on with my phone re: hardware locked. The date on my box is 7-16. It is an early Vibrant. But no matter what I do, I cannot get into download or recovery which means my ****ing phone is literally worthless.
I have tried all possible thousands of combination's of buttons, batteries, and cords while booting and nothing happens.
The Vibrant logo shows, then it shows the pink, annoying as hell T-mobile logo, than goes to the Galaxy S logo which loads for a little bit and then just leads me to a black screen. Eventually the 4 buttons on the front of the phone turn on and then nothing else happens. It will just sit like this forever.
I know all I need to do is get a working ROM loaded but it is literally impossible to do so.
Can anyone offer any suggestions? Or are anyone else having the same problem?
I guess the only way I can get a working phone is to get in touch with T-mobile and do a Warranty exchange. That's a damn shame too, because I will be without a working phone for a week.
What about using adb?
adb reboot recovery -or- adb reboot download ?
I had a hw locked vibrant, never tried the adb reboot download, recovery did work.. I added another line on my account last night for somone, who got a vibrant, theirs wasn't hw locked, so I traded 'em ;P
Agree with the above poster I have been stuck on the vibrant screen or dark screen and adb still worked to save me
when i try to use adb, it just tells me that it cant find the device. i'm not able to boot into android OS at all.... screen just hangs. so my computer is never getting a chance to see my phone hence why i cant use adb to reboot it into recovery or download.
I believe your device has to go into recovery mode then check with and devices and if you see a device I THINK it is and reboot download, I am 90% certain

i do believe i have the correct drivers installed. i was able to use adb to run lagfixes before i was having this problem. when i boot my phone, i get a sound from my computer saying that it recognizes a usb device. the two drives in the vibrant show up in My Computer but i cannot access them as windows says they are not accessable at the moment.
at what point will adb be able to recognize my phone when booting? no matter what i do when i try adb shell i get error: device not found
It could be the phone not bring in debugging mode, either because it's been turned off or the os isn't getting far enough to turn it on. I think I've been able to get adb to recognize my phone even while it was booting up (at the white vibrant screen). Maybe you can try adb then?
Same problem here. I probably just have to sell it fast on ebay or something. Hopefully some kind of fix starts by the end of the week. First phone in my smartphone life to brick from a simple Voodoo lag fix. Please XDA gods find a solution.

4- press the vol + , vol - , the power botton together.
5- when the screen gose black release the power botton only.

this isnt working either. :-(
I just fixed this on my phone. Your phone will go into download mode. Plug the phone in and wait for the battery symbol to fully load. Hold Vol + and _ and PWR until it goes black, then release the PWR button only. It will go into DL mode. Fire up Odin, and flash the "Froyo that does not brick" ROM. It will boot into the i9000 recovery mode and give you an error. Hold the Vol + and - and PWR again and release PWR when the phone goes black. It will go into DL mode again. Now with Odin, flash the factory firmware, making sure to click re-partition this time. After the phone reboots, it will fire right up into the factory ROM.

this is exactly the method i want to try. but unfortunately i cannot get the phone into recovery or download mode. i have tried at least 100 times now with many different combination's of plugging the usb cord in and pressing the volume and power buttons.
two ideas: one, is it possible that i wiped recovery and download mode from my phone on accident? the reason why i ask is that i was super tired and flashing roms and kernels to my phone. i flashed back to my original stock rom and then i flashed the kernel. for some reason, i selected wipe date/cache in Rom Manager before flashing the kernel. i have no idea why i did this. seriously. totally noob move. so im assuming i have a kernel flashed but now there is no ROM installed for the phone to boot into.
two, if above is not the issue, than im going to assume that the phone is not recognizing any button presses while its off, so when i turn it on it just recognizes that the power was pressed and ignores the volume presses, thus not booting the phone into recovery or download.
edit: i should mention again that at no time does adb recognize my device. so i cannot use adb to reboot the phone into the mode i need.
just a comment for the OP - the vibrant isnt worthless, it is something that YOU did to get the phone into its current state. So dont blame the phone for something that it didnt do on its own.

I understand what you mean. I appreciate your criticism of my original post. Let me say that I wrote it while frustrated. But I know that isn't an excuse.

Anyways, I received a replacement phone. I will be more careful this time.
Hi guys, I am feeling really nervous about this... So, the problem is, that I've just rooted my HTC GSM Hero and installed 2.2 ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=767886). Now I can't boot device into normal mode (it shows hero for a while, then turns into black screen, and nothing more happens) or recovery mode (it stucks when it shows HERO). Stay calm... it's not necessarily bricked yet
First thing i would like you to do is charge your phone to max!
Try and turn on the phone and hold to "On" key and "Home" key together for 60 seconds. If this doesn't boot you to recovery, try again one more time! It's happened to me that i didn't realise the button wasn't pressed all the way down.
If that doesn't work then let it boot as normal and even though it goes to the black screen don't panic.
Do you have any of the android tools installed?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502010
See there for help on how to get adb up and running and then come back here.
Another thing i'm curious about while we're here... when you boot the device as normal.. connect it to power, the orange (or green) led at the top should be off for a few seconds while the hero boots up... when it goes to this black screen that you see.. does the light come on?

When my phone is off, the led is red. When I see that black screen, it is off... Is that bad??
Not necessarily.. it could just mean that it's not finishing it's boot up... let it charge for a while.
Your phone is most likely fine. You just confused it so it can't start up normally. We'll get you back in recovery mode and then you can reinstall your 2.2 rom.

Yes, it finds HEROIMG,zip, then loads it, then checks it, and adter that nothing happens - the phone still doesn't boot.
ok, volume down key response is good
ADB apears not to discover Your phone, probably drivers problem ;/
Look for RRU file it's used for factory reseting entire phone.
You can download it from HTC.com site.

EDIT: go to htc.com site. look for downlaoding software for Your phone. You will have to provide Your imei. and You will receive .exe file - that You will have to run on Your PC. You can also look for it on this forum, they should be around here somewhere (or perhaps shipped roms.com)

Maybe there's some way to flash my recovery img via hboot (POWER + VOLUME DOWN)?
Try downloading usbdeview HERE plug the phone in,turn it on,leave it for 10-15 seconds for windows to recognize it...load usbdeview and uninstall and delete anything with android, htc, mass storage or adb in it thats showing as connected (on the right hand side) unplug phone......then download and install HTC Sync HERE let it install, then reboot (to be safe) plug the phone in and let its do its business,DONT let windows search and direct it to program files/htc sync/drivers (or similar) you should then have adb! If you dont it could be a problem with your misc.img i had this with my magic and fixed it with a post on this forum but will post it up if the first bit doesnt work
Any troubles gtalk me [email protected]

I was trying to install GingerStreak. Flashed the amss and dsp1 and then got boot loops. Did a factory reset, and now I just get the buttons lit up and nothing else. Holding volume buttons & power doesn't take me to recovery. Holding camera & power doesn't take me to fastboot.
How screwed am I?
edit: now it doesn't even seem to want to turn on at all
Been there myself, and mine is fine again now, so there is still hope.
1) If it won't even power on, pull the battery. Then wait - at least a minute, more if you like...
2) reinstall the battery, being careful NOT to hit any buttons while holding the phone, then hold down the shutter button and power on to head to fastboot.
3) while in fastboot, flash the amss and dsp1 files (I use he 351 ones), and then the custom recovery of your choice, StreakMod is nice.
4) hold down the volume buttons and run a fastboot reboot, to make sure you go straight into recovery.
5) run the dell factory reset, but hold down the volume buttons to make sure you loop back into recovery when it reboots (think it does an automatic reboot, but it has been a while)
6) this time, in recovery, select option 2 and go into StreakMod, then install StreakDroid 1.9 (it is stable and this is about getting your phone back alive)
7) let it boot normally, you should end up with a happy working Streak.
After that, feel free to upgrade to GingerStreak, or head to a stock rom, or whatever, but the above should recover from most situations where you can still get to fastboot.
if steps 1 & 2 don't even get you to fastboot, then you're going to need QDL tool.
Thanks for the super guide reply. There is hope, sweet.
I plugged my Streak into a desktop it hadn't been connected too and hardware wizard popped up, so it's got something in there still.
I still can't get into Fastboot, so I've looked into QDL, however most guides reference repairtool.zip, which I can't seem to find. The Streakdroid.com link most guides use doesn't work anymore.
It is currently listed as Quallcom CDMA Technologies MSM, and has no driver installed.
Any idea where I could get repairtool?
The files I can do
here are repairtool.zip which is the full main QDL tool that takes you to 2.1 pre replease
http://www.multiupload.com/YWYDN3AEXG
and also streakflash.zip, which is a slightly older version, and doesn't flash as much - if the first one doesn't work, this one often does, it is designed to get the phone back to the point where you can repair it, rather than flash a full OS onto it
http://www.multiupload.com/1YG0JCZW7Z
As for the driver, the one I installed went something like the following (from memory)
Pull the battery, wait a minute
Instert battery, DO NOT POWER ON
hold down the volume up button, and plug in the USB lead, STILL DO NOT POWER ON
Windows should recognise a device, and try for a driver, go through the dialogues to an all devices, choose a driver, have disk, and the one you need to choose is the driver in the repairtool zip
BUT, sadly, I don't have my streak with me here, so I can't remember the exact device name that you need to choose once you navigate to that folder
as I recall, it was the model 9002, and NOT the one with modem in the name, but I could be wrong. Hopefully someone else will be able to fill in the gap
Between you and this guide
I think i should be set. Much thanks. I owe you a beer.
edit:
I just want to add a few notes on what I had to do, mainly in regards to Windows 7 64-bit. Since Streakdroid.com is currently being rebuilt and some important resources (things that lots of other post reference) are currently unavailable.
Reboot, tap F8 to get the windows start up menu, choose "Disable Driver Check"
The driver you want, even if you have an Intel chip is the ..\Driver_2.067\win64\wnet\amd64\qcser.inf
(There is one specific Intel chip that needs the driver in \IA64)
I love you guys. For three days I tried to get away from Gingerstreak (It's horriable),and I bricked my phone. You're thread was a life saver.
I bought a factory refurbished streak off of eBay a few days ago. One day it froze randomly.
Afterwards, it turned on with a blank black screen and with the LEDs on.
I tried QDL Tool (Both versions), and I get SUCCESS with "streakflash"
As for "repairtool" I get a hang at ADB-- However, after it times out, my phone goes into ADB mode and I am able to use fast boot. I manually flashed all the files in the 'images' folder as per this post http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/7108099-post3.html, but it still turns on with a blank black screen. Battery door seems to be on securely. Does anybody have any idea of what I could do? I'm calling Dell, but I doubt they'll honor any warranty since I bought it off CL.
It has been a while for me since I had to flash from start, but why not boot into FASTBOOT, then send the recovery IMG to it then restore factory stock image, or the streakmod recovery image and then flash whatever rom you want onto it.
I got into fastboot, flashed recovery, boot, system, and userdata. Still black with blank screen, no matter what combo I try. Any other suggestions?
Have you tried installing just the recovery.img file and corresponding stock pkg file?
I've flashed recovery, then no button combos will let me into recovery. Everything I try brings me to a blank lit up black screen with the LEDs occasionally on/off.
ok heres what i have deducted...
I can get into fastboot mode normally, with camera and power, then pressing where the fastboot button should be.
I'm guessing my phone's screen broke, somehow, randomly, while I was playing with a rom. weird.
Try a different recovery from the streak wiki.

Guess I didn't make myself clear--
When I turn it on in fastboot mode, the screen lights up black--then I press the area where the button for fastboot is, and it boots into fastboot mode (I know this because if I connect a cable at this point, I can flash with fastboot). The screen remains lit and black the entire time.
Another bricked streak
since you used streakflash that gives you all base drivers for 2.2 so you have to use a stock 2.1 recovery or clockwork to get android back.

did you read the rest of the thread? the screen is broken, i've reflashed everything through fastboot.
Check your internal screen cables?
I just got a used Streak 5 off eBay, and it would light with the Dell logo, but no touchscreen ability (seller replaced broken screen, but it would not work right). I could see the options for the recovery/startup stuff, and could use the buttons for selections/actions, but anything involving touch did not work. I took it apart several times to fiddle with the cables several times, but it took very carefully reseating them all the way in, and flipping down the cable clamp on the socket for the one that needed that (then putting its rubber cushion on top to hold it down it seems).
My point is, reseat those 3 screen cables in the connection sockets fully, and carefully - might yield "magic".
The other issue I had with the unit was that it took me a few tries at looking at all the closeup details in tear-down pix (on Pocketables I think) to finally realize that the (really) internal microSD (not visible till the back cover is removed to expose that and the screen cables) for /data and /cache (think those are the dirs on that card) was missing. The seller stated cardS not included, and i missed that trailing "s" at first. Several attempts at factory restore went nowhere until I figured out that was missing, and put a new card in there - more "magic"! DUHHHH
Ok I have looked around quite a bit, and most of the information I've read is quite dated...
All of the stories are different from mine, but some match up in certain areas, and they all look not very bright
Here is my situation:
I had the latest stock rom (As of Jan. 2013) on my TF201
"Cool im gonna root this mother"
Get the unlock tool for JB devices or whatever, it doesnt do anything but unlock. no brick, no root, nothing tried.
I forget to root it for awhile, so it went through heavy use, many reboots, etc. it is acting normal
"Oh yes, rooting" i recall my want to root
So... i hit up fastboot with this: www . clockworkmod . com / rommanager (the 5.8.3.4)
fastboot devices
(whatever in god's holy name the serial number was came up
fastboot flash (some hex here) blah blah blah then i pointed to the recovery
it went through fine on the Asus side, showing up all good and such
i reboot it with the fastboot (with the hex) reboot command
i boot while holding power, vol-down and this is when it gets creepy...
IT COMES UP AND I PRESS RCK with the volume up... and it FREEZES
so im like... ****
i reboot normally, and it goes to android all fine and dandy so im happy! yay!
i try again with the RCK thing and it freezes again.. so im just like **** it, and i go back to just using the tablet normally.
well i ended up wanting to factory reset it, so i went into settings and found the factory reset thing and pressed yes, its cool, seriously do it, etc.
it freezes again at the beginning... i left it there for like 2 hours on the charger... still frozen with the RCK statically highlighted.
i reboot... and BAM nothing..
i cant press vol-down and power to even get to the bootloader menu anymore.
damn it
so... my question is, with this crappy information ive given you... is this fixable? i did not NVFlash before, so none of those files are here.
I CAN get into APX mode (i think)... Black screen from the vol-up/power combo?
I have mac os x on MBP... boot camp installed, win 7 on that.
please help me :crying:

It is written all over this forum that installing CWM onto the jellybean bootloader will hard brick your device.
I reported it to the creator of CWM and Rom Manager months ago but unfortunately he never replied or did anything about it.
If you cannot access fastboot then I'm sorry but you are hard bricked and will have to have the motherboard replaced by Asus at a cost of about 200 dollars.
