Hello!
I'm using Sony Ericsson's Android 2.1.1. I've lots of contacts and many accounts like Facebook, Twitter, life.contacts etc. I sync those accounts. Because of the multiple accounts, multiple contacts pop up. That is not an issue since they are merged. But my problem is that the phone selects information from 1 account out of all available for a contact and displays that info in my Contacts app. For example, it'll display Facebook display picture and name for a contact which would differ from its corresponding Twitter account info.
Here is a rough example -
Accounts
Facebook
Name: Greg House
Picture: gh_facebook
Twitter
Name: Gregory House
Picture: gh_twitter
What I want the phone to show -
Name: Gregory House From Twitter a/c
Picture: gh_facebook
How can I manually select the photo and name as primary from different accounts for a particular contact to be displayed whilst keeping its another accounts information?
I'm basically asking for an app which can do this.
I have this issue too.

i have a quick question
how can i join contacts (skype, msn (if possible), gtalk, facebook( but keeping the names i have on my phonebook?
is annoying that it changes it
thanks
The only way I have found is to sync everything, then use ContactAnalyser2 from the market to merge them.
However you must also be aware that having data syncing from a lot of different places will slow your phone down massively and even cause the overheating problem mentioned in other threads.
I haven't found an MSN client to date that will sync. There is a Messenger Beta all doing the rounds but I don't know if that syncs either as it's in Chinese!

I do have the same issue with confusion and the different names, I'd like to suggest to Add Field as Nickname and put the name that matches the Social Network's one ... I think it might work.
Any other ideas to sort this out please elaborate.
I've done a weird route to organize my social phonebook, after some frustration with Yahoo contacts integration (you can't delete a yahoo contact through the phone for instance!). I went to my Yahoo page on PC and noticed they also sync the contacts with facebook or gmail, and it's a bit easier to organize and merge accounts through there, then i got back to my phone and updated contacts from yahoo and it's all looking nice.
So, I'm a bit confused with the plethora of options built into this phone. In order to set up Google Play, I had to enter a gmail account. That partially populated email on the phone. But there's also a separate GMAIL program. I can't remember which was necessary before contacts and calendar stuff started to appear.
Am I better off sticking with the phone's email program for gmail, or using the Gmail program from within the google apps folder? What are the plusses/minuses?
Also, is it possible to import contact photos from twitter for name matches or by linking profile to contact name?
Thanks!
GMail app is better for GMail as it allows specific GMail features like the stars, etc
Maybe the e-mail app supports that, but I am only using the E-Mail app for exchange
I would say go for the GMail app!
Use gmail app.
Hi
I regularly use several email accounts, one on Hotmail, one on Gmail and one via a work Exchange. Plus I have my phone contacts.
I have set them all up on the Samsung Accounts with my choice of Contacts and mail etc sync settings. But I am a little frustrated because:
When in the phone dialer it shows many email only contacts.
I can't work out where to tell it to put new contacts by default.
Although I can laboriously select and manage more than one contact entry as one, it does not seem to copy the settings between them
There is no clear way of merging the contacts and having the combined settings copied back to the original sources (e.g. if I have one entry with a phone number and another with an email, I can't merge them physically so the missing values are copied back to the source systems.)
I am seeking any suggestions as to settings / practices / software that could help me manage my multiple contacts across several email systems?
Any help would be much appreciated.
I have a similar issue; I have a bunch of email, Facebook, and, you know, actual contacts. Instead of automatically merging those with the same names, they're all listed together. I turned off everything so it only shows contacts, but I'd rather be able to merge them all together. Pressing the "Join Contact" button prompts me to join together email accounts or Facebook accounts only, which I don't want; I want to join contacts with their Facebook/Email accounts.
Anyone know how to do that?
try exporting all your contacts to the sd/internal mem card.
import them to your google account. they should then be in different categories.
check/uncheck the relevant boxes to show/hide contacts
Hello everyone, first time to post or ask a question although I've always found all i'm seeking through this forum and it's more than awesome, but i face a little problem...
The problem is as following, some contacts i have on my contact list are stored with another name than the name on facebook, ex: "John (Jazz Club)" isn't getting merged automatically with "John Lynn", specially when he's not showing the email on the facebook page to be stored once and every time i re-flash a ROM and sync, i get the contacts merged, i got hundreds of contacts not merged and seperated (my contact list are over 2k :S), and don't ask me to rename the contact cause i will never remember who the hell is John Lynn
I've imported facebook contacts via yahoo, exported and imported via gmail and the facebook section in the contacts with the profile name is shown in the contact online but still when i sync facebook contacts they are still separated.
What i need or what i wish there is, a method to add some sort of a link on the gmail contacts for the facebook profile, so whenever i flash a new ROM and sync facebook and gmail contacts, they got merged automatically
OR
an application that does some sort of a combined backup with the both contacts and it needs aswell to import all the newly added contacts on gmail into it, is there something like that ?
sorry if i complicate stuff but if you saw how the contact list looks it will scare the @*#$ out of you
Try long pressing the contact and then "join contact" then you can pick it manually.

I think he knows about the Join Contact option, what the OP is asking is if there is any way to store in Google Servers that action for future restores of his contact list.

Exactly Zedread, join contacts just join the interface of the two contacts together and as soon as you flash a new ROM it's all wasted, i need a method for a "once and for all" merge, either on the Gmail servers or by an application that works stand alone
No Hope guys ???
Well I placed my order for my Lumia today! I am anxious to get it and take it for a spin. As a a previous HTC One X user I am curious if there are any tips for making the switch anyone could provide.

Yep, the only thing I would recommend, is to take a few minutes, or hours to arrange your contacts in your live account:
1. Delete contacts that you don't know
2.- Merge repeated contacts so ther is one contact with full information instead of multiple.
3.- Find on Internet how merge Facebook Calendar events on your live calendar (Very useful for events, and birthdays)
4.- If necessary, add manually, or via Office Outllok your current phone contacts to your live contacts. (Use outlook Connector to add your live account to Outlook, and edit your contacts from there, it much more easy and fast)
5.- If you do all the above steps you wont have to ever think about syncing or backing up contactas ever.
6.- If you add a Coporate Exchange account, contacts wont be merged or displayed on your contacts( that's cool, because most of the time, you dont even know that well of the people on your job) but if you have to write an email for example, you will be able to use your corporate adress book.
7.- If you want to add birthdays of people in your contacts list, don't make it through calendar, make it in the contact itself, so when you are reminded of an event or birthday you can write on facebook wall or text, or call directly from the calendar app.
Once you do that, it is really impressive how WP merge all your contacts from your different services ex: live, facebook, twitter, linkedin, etc, The very few contacts that aren't merged because for example you use nicknames or name abbreviations yo can merge with no hassle inside each contact.
If you do this, you are prepared for the best experience ever, because on the case of phone lost, or formatting or new phone you just input your live credentials and vualá you have your contacts, and calendar synced right away.
Besides that, you only have to find your favorites apps, taking in to you account that for example, facebook and twitter are already embedded in the operating system so they are not necessary.
Welcome to Windows Phone, it is an amazing experience
Excellent thanks!

These are good suggestions but probably not required.
When you add different accounts such as Hotmail, multiple Google accounts, Facebook etc, the contacts will all be merged if they share the same name. If not, you can still manually merge them on the phone. None of the information on the corresponding services is changed - only the way it is displayed on your phone. You can also un-merge certain contacts if you want to. You can also choose what contacts you want to see on the People hub - so for instance, you can turn off your Outlook (work) contacts.
The same is true for the calendars - you can choose which calendars to sync and which ones to show in the Calendar app.
I don't see a need to go through organizing everything online - can be a pain if you have hundreds of contacts.
In case of a lost phone, you still have all the data - just spread around on different services and it will be a breeze to set it up again.
Case in point: I have Hotmail, three Google accounts, Facebook and work email account set-up. Took me less than 5 mins to organize everything on the phone. I turned off Facebook and work email on my People hub - I don't want to see all those contacts.
Anybody else - if you have a different experience, please speak up. But I assure you syncing multiple contacts and calendars is a breeze.
