hoping someone here can help me out since i am new at this stuff and managed to totally screw up my venue. tried to delete some system apps and apparently i deleted one (or two) too many. it stays at the dell logo when booting and will not restore. guess i also screwed up my restore files. have searched for the original android 2.2 restore or update and can only find the India version.

Hi all,
after playing around and testing for hours and reading all possible documentation I am completely lost. Maybe someone could help me? I'm quite new to the "flashing business"
Here are the facts:
- I have an European 00 Streak
- I wanted to go to 2.1
- Fastboot works without any problems, also Clockwork can be installed anytime
- After recovery which worked fine the Streak freezes when trying to update to ANY update.pkg, it does not seem to accept it
- After trying different things my device was "bricked" (I know it is not really the case)
- The only way I brought it back to life was downloading a Nandroid Backup of somebody else and restoring, which works absolutely fine
- I know from the Modaco forum that some other owners had exactly the same problem and the backup was the only way to get it back to life, but: Those others had no problems updating to 2.1 with the pkg file directly after the restore, which does not work for me
- Now I have a O2 1.6 Streak 4399 running fine
- Trying to update to 2.1 with the Update.pkg freezes the device again (but after a restart everything is fine again)
- Tried formating SD Card, different SD card, factory reset before updating, all you usually would think of
So now I look for an alternative method to bring my device to 2.1.
I tried
- regular way- freezing
- Clockwork with the update8105.zip available here - it says no valid archive
- Downloading the Streak_8105_img. zip
With the last one, I don't know what to do. Is ist possible to create a Nandroid backup out of that and restore it as this seems to be the only way to flash my Streak?
Thanks a lot for any help!
... closed. After posting, I tried again to do anything right from the start again as in the original description, and although I did that 5 times already, this time it works...
Glad to hear you got your issue solved. May I ask where you found the nandroid backup you referred to? I have a pesky battery drain issue (see posts in general forum) which I would like to look at with different ROMs.
(I'm running a Uk streak on o2 germany with a RebelSim 2)
Thanks in advance,
W0nk0
I previously had the S2, I've just got the S3 and I've managed to somehow restore it to factory settings; in this case, factory settings meant nearly no system apps.
I managed to push Play and TiBu to the phone, then restored Swiftkey (the default keyboard was wiped) and then... well, a few hours later, here I am. Play doesn't entirely work, it throws "Server error" whenever I try to use it. I've managed to set up my Google account, though. I'm sure I can restore the remainder of my apps using TiBu, but it'd still be useful to be able to get these apps updated, for example.
I've tried searching and all I can turn up are posts/threads/articles about restoring to factory settings, but this was the problem.
I'd be extremely grateful to someone that could tell me how to:
Get the phone working in the current state (I'll gladly supply any further information required), or;
Restore it to the original, stock, out-of-the-box I9300 ROM and apps
Of course, if another post already does instruct on one or more of the above, I apologise, and I'll gladly look at those if someone could point me in the right direction.

Thats wrong all system apps should be restored .
Suggest one factory reset phone via recovery menu .
Fails then match your current rom details to one in stock rom/branded rom thread .

I've tried this - multiple times - and it doesn't seem to help. Seems like CM doesn't actually install the stock apps? Unusual, or perhaps I'm doing something wrong.

I'm currently downloading stock, and will post back when something more has happened.
Hey, so I've tried the above; it seems to work except that the phone gets stuck on the Samsung logo screen while booting.
I'm not sure whether I just need to wait longer for it, but it's been a while now and I'm not sure that this has worked.
Is there any way for me to find out whether I just need to wait, or whether there's something else that's gone wrong here?
Something is going wrong .
Factory restore just reinstalls the last flashed firmware file including all its apps .
Stuck at boot loop pull battery replace and see if it boots if not flash stock firmware again following the instructions .

So perhaps something is seriously wrong.
I've removed then replaced the battery, then I've re-flashed stock firmware, and still stuck on logo screen - the glowing Samsung logo, mind, not the Samsung I9300 screen. But still no luck.
I've rooted my S2 plenty of times with no such problem, I have no idea what to do next, though.
Any more ideas?
Fixen (somehow)
So at some point after one of the backups I've done this morning, it's started working. Not sure why, but hurrah!
Searched, but found nothing specifically related to this. I was on CM10 and flashed back to stock until they get the bugs worked out. Flashed back to stock via Odin with Samsung toolkit v. 2.1. I had backups for TB so I decided to restore missing apps with data and system data, however whenever I did, the device would get stuck at the samsung logo. I suppose this is due to conflicting system files, so the device doesnt know what to boot from, but how can i avoid this in the future? I thought TB was the ultimate answer when switching roms to transfer data, this is the first time I've had trouble with boot issues with TB.

You're getting boot loops from restoring system data, thats a big no, no. Missing apps and data, I usually dont have any problems with that. The only "ultimate" is do a nandroid backup in CWM
True, but nandroid replaces system so it wouldn't be best when switching roms, correct?
So, i was happily running the update, when i made a mistake that bricked my phone. I tried to restore a safestrap backup from earlier(still on the leak, though), and it succeeded...but when i tried to reboot, the phone wouldnt boot and the bootanimation was kind of screwy looking, and was blue. Could not get into android. So, i booted up stock recovery to try and reinstall the update, but couldnt because i had replaced the default gmail apk in /system with an inverted one. (The error message specifically referenced gmail.apk) Also, like an idiot, i uninstalled some verizon bloatware via titanium backup. I can , however, still get into safestrap. Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Update: restored to .211 via droidrazr utility, got into stock recovery and reinstalled jb ota. I Iost root, but hey, at least I'm not bricked! Lol....merry christmas to everyone!
I have really messed up my os with rooted programs playing around. I would like to make a backup rom from one untampered with tabelet to flash to the tampered with one. I've read about rom manager and nandroid but I cant use them because I have a generic androud tablet. Dragon touch android 4.0. Cant find anything on it through google but alot of apps refer to it as softwinner's crane-a721. Please be aware that some how my stupidity changed my factory reset as well. Example....factory reset now installs super user, I once selected an option to remove my boot screen and now the app is 4 factory resets long gone but boot screen is still gone. Basically what I screwed up is now the factory reset. Can some one please help me or maybe even help me find a better flashable rom for this mysterious device?
