[Q] Will an S2 work in Canada? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I'm looking at buying a Samsung Galaxy S2 from someone over the internet. I'm not sure of the exact origin of the phone, but I'd like to make sure that it works in Canada. I'm on Rogers and I want to make sure that it works on the 3G/HSPA network here. I bought a UK HTC phone in the past and it would only operate on EDGE.
Here are a few pictures the seller sent me. Is there anything else I should be asking or is this good enough evidence that it will work?

Thanks!

Bought mine from clove.co.uk. Works at hspa + speeds on Rogers in Southwestern Ontario.

Buying an unlocked phone?

I'm getting antsy waiting for T Mobile to say when they are going to release the SG 2. Is it or is it not correct that if I were to buy an unlocked one that is not issued by T Mobile that I would not get 4G or even 3G data speeds? Are there any other downsides to buying one that is not sold by them? TIA...
Since Europe and Asia use different wave frequencies for data connections you will not be able to use the Samsung Galaxy S II GT-i9100 for 3G/4G connections in the U.S, but EDGE will work. I use T-Mobile in the States and own the Galaxy S II and can only use the EDGE network aka 2G. If you care for the 3G/4G then don't get this phone, yet.
I have heard that you can use AT&T's network for 3G though.
That's what I had heard somewhere. Thanks for the details as to why.

Flyer 3G on Fido or Rogers

Hi everyone,
I am looking to buy a HTC flyer with 3G from expansys. I was told that the 3G data will not work for the Rogers/Fido network in Canada. Is this true? Can someone confirm this for me?
Also, I know for a fact it will work on the Wind/Mobilicity network. Is anyone currently using it on this network? How is it?

Unlocked phone but no 4g, please help

So I bought a new SGII 1777 for a really good deal. Brand new out of box, etc. Anyways, T-mobile is my carrier. I was able to root the phone and unlock it. The strange thing is that now that my T-mobile SIM card is in this AT&T phone, I am not getting 4g. I am only getting "E" coverage. I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432. Am I missing something? Is it firmware? Kernel? currently, kernel in phone is 2.6.35.7 with Gingerbread.UCKH7. I'm in the US, so if any of this info helps my cause please assist. Any advice/help/suggestions are welcome. Thanks XDA!

Your on E and you will continue to be on E. The AT&T phone dosent support 3G/4G Tmo bands.
You won't get anything faster than Edge with an att phone on T-Mobile. Hardware is the cause.

The exception would be some of their LTE phones reflashed with a T-Mobile radio. Pretty much Skyrocket and Note and that's it.
This is because AT&T uses 1700 MHz for LTE and T-Mo uses it for 3G, and other than the radio firmware the T989 and Skyrocket are almost identical.
Right now, with the exception of the above cases and the international unlocked Galaxy Nexus (which is pentaband HSPA) - only T-Mobile USA phones will get 3G on T-Mo USA. There may be a small handful of other exceptions, but very few non-Tmo devices support 1700 MHz.
Some research could've prevented this. Or just buy the phone made for T-Mobile.

Galaxy S3 International works on Rogers?

Hi, I've read that the international quad core version of the Galaxy S3 can be used on Rogers.
I know absolutely nothing about phones so I was wondering how this can be done?
Do I just buy the international version without contract and take it to a Rogers service store and add a plan on it? What type of plan should I be using with the international version? I don't need LTE or 4G. I'm fine with the 3G network as long as the phone works without any issues. Is there any trustworthy sites where can I buy the unlocked international version of the S3?

From a little bit of research, everyone is saying the international GSIII will work as long as it's on a 3G data plan. Is there any downsides to using the international version other than being limited to 3G? Is it as simple as buying the unlocked GSIII int'l phone and using a 3G plan on it?

I don't think there is any downside apart from not being on LTE. Yes it should be as simple as buying an unlocked phone, putting the sim card in it with a 3G plan. In case if your data does not work check if APN is added. I remember it was added automatically for me on GSII
I'm on rogers with the 9300, works fine. Obviously no LTE, but the HSPA+ is fast enough. Not to mention Canadian bandwidth restrictions making LTE a huge turn-off for me. 6GB a month for $60+, no thanks
EDIT: I could be wrong but I don't see a problem with what you mentioned in the OP. Get the phone and just buy a regular smartphone data plan, or whichever plan you want. As for myself, I kept the same plan as my X10 and just cut my sim up because it wouldn't fit and it works fine, no change of plan or anything.

Can you use the i9300 internationally?

I don't really understand how cell phone providers work, but my friend is in Germany for another year before he comes back to the US.
Would Samsung Galaxy SIII Smartphone (16GB, UK Sim Free Unlocked) work from the amazon.co.uk site for him to use on T-Mobile in Germany, then return to the US and use it on a new contract at Verizon/T-Mobile/Sprint?
It will certainly work in the UK and Germany, with the same modem. The phone will operate on the right frequencies for the USA but I'm not sure you'll get the best out of it, as there will be no specific modem for the i9300 in the USA. Calls & texts will certainly work but data could be slow or none at all.
