[Q] Help with my Samsung Fascinate - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed the Imnuts ED03 Odin ROM for my Fascinate, found on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1077686.
It works great, but has one annoying problem. On the lock screen clock, there is a leading zero which is maddening! Also, there is a period at the end of the month (it now reads "May." currently). Anyone know how to fix this??

Have u tried going into settings, location and security, screen lock settings, and either settting your own password or choosing none. Also go to settings, date and time, select date format, change it to what you want. Don't know if yup already tried but easiest fix options first.

Removing stock screenlock - device rooted

Hey guys,
New to the android world n I'm trying to get the hang of it so pls bear with me and my silly questions. Hopefully some of you may be able to help me with this question.
So as the title goes, I'm trying to remove the stock lockscreen slider since it seems to be kind of inaccurate everytime I slide to unlock. Sometimes it hits immediately but most if the time requires 2 tries.
I wish to replace it with something better but I don't know yet where to get the apk for it.
The phones rooted already and I am using sdx stock app remover. I am trying to figure out which apk I need to remove to disable the lockscreen. Does anybody know the name of the necessary apk file?
On top of that can I replace the deleted apk with a custom lockscreen? If possible, where can I find good ones.
I hope someone will be kind enough to help me. I really don't like the slider bar on the motoblur.
Thanks,
Aqua

I wouldn't mess with it until we get an sbf, but until then you can get a lock screen replacement from the market, there's lots of them like GOTO Lockscreen, Lock 2.0, FlyScreen, Widget Locker Lockscreen and many more Hope this helps
Cool! Thnx man. That helps a lot. I've been looking for an app to do so but never could find a good answer. I won't play around with the core files till things are clear. Thnx again.

Easy from home screen. Setting>Location & Security>Setup Lockscreen>None

Ehmm yea but that disables the security feature like the pin or pattern or Biometrics. What I want to disable is the screen lock slider.

get 'no lock' from the market
I'm with you on this, I would like to get rid of the stock slider and still keep my pin/pattern lock. I use widget locker so of course I have redundant screen locks whenever the security lock kicks in. 'no lock' on the market removes the security lock as well.

In my search for no lock, I ran across a few apps on the market that did this as well. Don't remember which ones, but if you search on 'no lock' a few of the apps that come up do exactly what you're looking for - you just have to put in the time and go through them...
The stock motorola slider and the PIN/Password security are all the same screen and cannot be interacted with separately in any standard manner. I'm looking into alternative ways of doing this, but they're very complicated even with root. Pattern is less strictly tied to slider, and already works better in 2.0 with WL 2.0.1 improving it more, but motorolas slider in front of the pattern is very difficult to deal with too.
Me personally I love using my fingerprint locker instead of the slider, it's quicker and more efficient. Just a quick heads up
I'd love using it too if it doesn't keep missing my fingerprint. Sometimes it could take up to 3 or 4 times to unlock. Don't know why.
So Im now using widget locker. Awesome app.

[Q] CM7 and unlock behavior

I recently rooted my TB and installed the latest CM7 ROM. The only thing that bugs me about the ROM is that when I unlock it after being idle for a few minutes, it always returns to the last app or email or whatever was open before it locked. I would like it to always return to the Home Screen, or Desktop each time it is unlocked. So far, I have not been able to find any setting to make this happen. I was hoping someone might be able to give me a hand with it.
Thanks,
Mark
you could always just download "No Lock" from the market & just use the power on/off button to turn the screen on/off. then you wouldn't have to bother with the lock screen at all. i use that no matter if i'm on sense or aosp. always hated the lockscreen b.s.
Go into cm settings, lockscreen, style options, custom starter app. Set that to be the launcher of your default. Adw is the current defaulted launcher unless you have installed another 3rd party.

You can disable the lockscreen in the cm tablet tweaks settings. No need for 3rd party app.
Thanks for the replies guys. I was hoping to keep the unlock screen appearance the same, without adding more options. I like things to look clean and minimal. However, if it's not possible, then I'll just have to deal with it the way it is.
Thanks,
Mark
Did you ever find a solution?
I too am used to returning to the home screen when I turn my phone on, not the last app I used. Seems like it would be a simple setting...

Phone freezing when making calls

My wife has an S2 with stock ROM. It's unlocked, on a T-Mobile UK SIM. The phone is about 6 months old. There is a problem with the phone screen going blank and not responding to any button or screen presses when dialling a call. After 10-20 secs, sometimes longer, the phone starts responding again.
The problem has been around for a few months, but has got alot more frequent in the last few weeks.
The phone is running XWKI4, Kernel 2.6.35.7.
Does anyone know what might be causing this, and whether there is a fix?
Save your data, do a full wipe, flash again using Odin.
You did UV?
This issue might be from how you UV. If you set the value to low, ur phone will not have enough power to run the tasks. So set value high on Set voltage tab might solve ur problem.
Just to confirm - this phone is completely out-of-the-box. It's not rooted, ROM'd, underclocked/overclocked or anything. I want it to stay that way as it's my wife's phone. I was just wondering if anyone else had these problems with a vanilla S2, and whether it may need to go back for a warranty repair?
Answer stays....
But you can try wiping using dial code first.
Save any pictures and videos on internal storage.
Re-flash what using ODIN? I didn't flash this phone in the first place. I don't want to put a custom ROM on this phone.
Who says custom ROM?
I try again, problem is you people ask but never do what told later...
Save you're picture/video
Using dialer dial *2767*3855#
It will wipe you're phone / factory reset.
If this don't help learn how to use Odin, get a stock ROM and flash using Odin.

Then which ROM should I flash? Also, if the ROM and kernel are the same as when it was purchased then why would re-flashing a ROM help?

So far you've suggested "flash again using Odin" and "try wiping using dial code first". It would really help if you could suggest something specific, and maybe leave out the cryptic comments?
How specific you want?
I even write the code which will do wiping for you.
And than I said if that fails learn how to use Odin to flash stock ROM.

Thanks for the suggestion. Sorry if I'm being dense, but I can't find and entry for the Phone apk in the app manager. There's "Phone Util" and "Dialer", but nothing else that looks like the phone app. Any ideas???
Are you using an alternative dialler? I had similar issues when I was using go dialler and go launcher. Uninstalled it and things were back to normal (for the most part). Check that first.
Step 2 easy way out is to reflash. You won't lose warranty etc if you do it right. Loads of tutorials available and check out samfirmware for the firmware you need to install.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
Edit-have you also tried alternative diallers? Does the problem come up using them too?

, atifsh meant that you do a soft restart for your phone: no need to flash anything: just simple soft restart.

She is using the stock dialer. She hasn't tried an alternative dialer, mainly because we couldn't work out a way to change the phone shortcut on the Touchwiz dock menu. This doesn't prevent us from installing an alternative dialer of course, but it the dock can't be reconfigured she will always be launching the stock dialer by mistake!
Can anyone explain how to change the default dialer, and recommend a good alternative for the S2?
We did also try rebooting the phone - several times - but the problem remains.

You can change out any of the shortcuts in the dock.
Open the app drawer, hit menu, edit, drag the icon you want to replace off the dock and into the app drawer, then drag the icon you want to be in the dock from the app drawer into the dock.

Try Touchpal contacts / dialler. I really liked that one over go dialler or dw contacts. And then, as indicated replace in the dock.
But first you need to determine if the issue presents itself in other diallers as well.

[Q] Change the Clock On the Lock Screen?

As odd as it sounds, are you able to change the clock on the lock screen or change the "effects" for the swipe to unlock?
I could do so before the AT&T upgrade, but I can't now (although, the upgrade may not be the cause). The selection in the Lock Screen Settings is gone and the clock widget no longer shows up in the widget list.

Well... On my phone, it used to be there. I actually ran into this issue, yesterday afternoon. I did a factory reset to see if it would fix the issue. At that point "Select Screen Lock" appeared under the Lock Screen selection in Display (which can also be reached via the Lock Screen Settings when you push the Settings button while on a home screen.
This isn't a matter of me not knowing how to make the change (I've already done so twice: 1) with my original phone and 2) with this phone, after replacing the original for the phone jack issue). The setting selection is no longer there (and the clock widget, no longer appears in my widget list and it was there before the AT&T SW update). FWIW.... the effects settings for the lock screen are also gone. This is truly bizarre.
Looks like you need to get the apk from someone and adb push it to /system/app and then reboot.

I'm probably demonstrating my ignorance, but if I was able to procure the apk and use adb to push it, what prevents it from disappearing again?

It probably was only deleted by the update. Sometimes that happens. Some samsung updates on my phone deleted the browser and gapps. As long as you push the apk, I don't see why it would disappear. Although, have you checked other places in settings? Perhaps LG reorganized.

I too don't see why it would disappear. Which has me completely baffled. I've checked every where, but I seriously doubt that it's a "reorganization" of the settings menus. The menus were exactly as laid out in the LG manual, youtube videos and as described by people who have responded to this thread (and the other one in the LGOG unbranded thread), when I first started the phone and after each factory reset. Then within an hour or two, they were no longer in the Lockscreen menu.

Even if the apk was deleted, the references to it would still be in settings.apk, so the menu option would be there, but clicking it would lead to a force close.

Follow up question for one of you extra smart dev types....
New phone has the same issue (several of the lock screen settings are gone). In addition to installing apps from Google Play Store, I also install apps that allow me to get my work emails and calendar (as well as work IM). The apps are: Junos Pulse (security/anti-virus), Lotus Traveler (for email and calendar) and Lotus Sametime. Lotus Traveler requires that I use a password lock. If someone enters an incorrect password, 10 consecutive times, it automatically starts factory reset, to wipe the storage.
I noticed that the lock screen menu options disappeared after I installed and activated the 3 apps listed above. Is it possible that Traveler is deleting the lock screen options menus as part of it's security settings?

I noticed the same thing. For me, it was my MS Exchange account. It requires a PIN secured lock. Once activated, the clock and shortcut options disappeared in Settings. I removed the MES account and they reappeared. So, I set to my liking, then set up/activated the Exchange account afterwards.

I can't uninstall the app. From what I can tell, the only way to do so, is to do a factory reset. I haven't rooted the device. I'm certain that I could do the uninstall if I were to root the phone. At this point, it's not worth doing so (I'm considering returning it for a refund and get an N4).

Thanks for the confirmation, that someone else is experiencing this issue (and I'm not crazy).
I have noticed on mine that those lock screen settings (clock& shortcuts and screen effect) only show up if it set to "Swipe to unlock". If you set it to pattern or pin, those options disappear, however what you selected before stays in effect.
If you switch it back to "swipe to unlock", those settings will reappear and you can change them again, and then switch back to pattern or pin.
I don't know if it's by design, but I hope not.

Wow, that's very interesting. I seriously doubt that swipe to unlock vs PIN or Password unlock is supposed to result in menu items disappearing.
Update: I've figured out the method to uninstall the lotus email apps (you have to deactivate it as device manager 1st, if anyone is interested). After doing so, I can confirm that the lock screen settings that disappeared have in fact reappeared.
My issue is different, just got the phone and the 4 app shortcuts were on the lock screen. I changed the clock and now they have disappeared from the lock screen. I changed it back to the default clock and the quick apps are still missing. How do I get those back I'd like to quickly get into camera and browser from my lock screen.

[Q] Lockscreen problems

Having problems with my lockscreens. I'm attempting to substitute Widgetlocker lockscreen for the stock one on my Droid DNA (non-rooted). I'm also having my handcent notification popup show up between the layers of lockscreens.
A quick explanation of what I've done so far:
Created a custom lockscreen with widgetlocker.
Tested it, had 2 lockscreens. (Custom screen, and 3 option pull down screen).
Under the advanced options of Widgetlocker disabled stock lockscreen
Tested, 2 lockscreens still. (Custom screen, and 3 option pull down screen).
Installed NoLock. Enabled no lock mode.
Tested.....THREE lockscreens. (Custom screen, and 3 option pull down screen, and the circle you move to the operation you want screen).
Under Settings -> Personalize, selected No Lock screen
Tested, three lockscreens
Uninstalled NoLock
Tested...2 lockscreens.
At this point I'm at a loss for what to do next to get rid of that stock lockscreen. I would even just give up assuming it can't be done without rooting....EXCEPT, my handcent popup notifications will popup on top of my custom screen, but BELOW the stock on I'm trying to get rid of....this is my 4th Android phone and I've never had it popup under the lockscreen before. Makes me think this is bugged out somehow.
Any help?
I use the settings...personalization..no lock screen route and it works fine. Widgetlocker is the only lockscreen. Maybe undo the "disable stock lockscreen" option through widgetlocker? That's the only thing I can think of. Rest assured it is possible, that's the setup I use. You probably just have some conflicting settings somewhere.

I thought about trying to disable the "disable stock lockscreen" option.....I even went to do it...but it seems it's a one way option. There is no button for undoing it.
My thinking is that it's bugged out somehow.....regardless of how many lockscreens I have, popup notifications should best all of them, right?

You can just remove the lockscreen through adb. You will have the call answering issue...but maybe Chingy will let you use his mod that fixes it.

The more I read and play around with this, the more I think something is wrong - not just a setting that's off.
I uninstalled Widgetlocker, set the Personalize to have a lockscreen.
I checked to make sure that there was indeed a locker, noted which locker, then switched the type under personalize. Checked again....didn't do anything.
So even without any of the custom goodies, the lockscreen isn't working. There has got to be some bug or something here, right?

So I'm a dumbass, as was the expected result....I will share for the benefit of anyone having similar problems (to my shame).
I was using Nova Launcher, but had installed Go Launcher first because that's what I had with my old phone. With Go Launcher came Go Locker. Yeah. I had mistakenly believed that when I had stopped using Go Launcher, it stopped using Go Locker as well.....and it doesn't work that way.
So that lockscreen that I was seeing was actually Go Locker. I wasn't seeing any change when altering the Personalize options because GoLocker was eliminating the stock app without me knowing, putting itself in it's space.
What really threw me for a loop was when I installed Nolock and had THREE lockscreens....it appears that NoLock and GoLocker, each set to disable stock lock, will cancel each other out and allow the stock lock to run.....while not preventing themselves from making an appearance. If that makes sense. So I had GoLocker, Widgetlocker, and the stock lock all running at once......Go me!
Anyway, hope that helps someone.
