There will be no fighting with anyone in this forum, its only to vent your anger here. I will start.
I try to help people by reading through the forum but everyday real problems are over shadowed by people asking what is the best way to root their thunderbolt....every day that shortly followed by how much they searched for this subject when if you simply search on Google Thunderbolt+root method you will find you answer, if you can't find Google, do a Bing search on it or askjoe.com
Second why are all these new guys over clocking to 1.9 and expect their phone to be stable? Don't they read the forum of the kernel they flashed? Or just rush to general or q&a and post freezing problems. People you will get very good support if you post in the kernel you use or Rom your kernel came with the developers keep their eyes on that thread.
When did thunderbolt general become Verizon support if you have a network drop, don't make a thread for each city it is down in, call Verizon don't think every issue has to do with a radio or your kernel or your Rom.
If I helped you in any way please use the thank you button
aah - hahahaha!!! great idea for thread. how about the idiotic post like :
"down loading now... "
Sent from my SHIFTAO5P using XDA App
My personal favorites (not in any particular order) :
1. Lol/Lmao;
2. What is the best ROM; and
3. Just rooted what now?
Arrgh!
"It works great for me / works for me, thanks" (in reply to a new update of something) (use the "thanks" button ffs)
"How do I install this? (install directions mentioned in the OP)"
"This alpha/beta/testing software sure is buggy / why is feature x broken in this? (broken issue mentioned in the OP for said software) (followed by vague description/no description of what is broken without a logcat by user asking question)"
"What's the best ROM / Rooting Method?"
"Help! I installed a non-root user RUU on top of my rooted phone"
"When will we get x / what is the eta for x?" (x = gingerbread|ics|next phone|new rom|etc)
Asking a question already answered in the stickied common questions / noob guide in the Q/A forum.
Go look at the PRL thread in the Incredible General forum. I get reamed out and called every name in the book.... But I was the only one that produced an answer! I'm about to the point of letting these idiots twist in the wind. I'm tired of fools that can't find the answers that are basically fed to them. And if a mod has a problem with that frustration, oh well... Do the right thing and ban stupid, not me.
I like when someone throws an off topic question in a thread and others bite. Then if you are interested in the original topic you have to filter through all the garbage to see if any progress or good information was actually posted.

or asking about how to fix an issue that was asked just 2-3 pages back when it really shouldn't be asked in the topic thread at all (post it separately in q/a). This is why developers don't reply to their threads much. They just get to be a mess and they give up.
I just ignore those.... It's easy, everyone should try it !
How do I get better battery life? Beating a dead horse.
The one I like is when they ask...
Hey has anyone tried Imo's yet...does it work? Does anyone know if it works?
I don't know, why don't YOU load it and tell us?????

The thought "help those who help themselves" always comes to mind when I see those posts !
Ya my other favorite one is when they ask which rom is the best.
I feel like asking them, so if I tell you to jump off a bridge will you do it?
If not, they why would you take what I say as the best rom as the gospel?
Roms are such a subjective thing. Some people like some things some like others.
My first Android phone was a G1, so I was pretty used to the "stock" experience. Even when I rooted, I stuck pretty much with Cyanogen.
When I got the bolt and realized Cyanogen was not really "available", I got into BAMF and I gotta tell you, they did a pretty impressive job with sense.
Before I would have just laughed at someone if they said sense was the way to go, but I really kinda like it now. So I know that even my viewpoint has changed somewhat.
I don't understand why these people cannot just go out and make up their own mind about which rom they like by just flashing them and trying them out. If they don't like it, they just nandroid back to what you had before they flashed the new rom.
I wonder if they all look like lemmings? Hmmmm.
I get so tired of people running AOSP ROMs creating new topics and stating in just about every AOSP ROM thread that they can't get a lock on their GPS...
Drunk texted from my CM7 Bolt
[RANT]Agreed. Google is my best friend. If I don't know how to do something when I cook my Rom, Google. When I need to know something about linux, Google.
STOP ASKING WHAT THE BEST ROM! THERE ISN'T A BEST ROM!!

This will always be the best way to deal with it. A lot of things that happen on XDA drive me nuts but it is what it is. If you don't like it ignore it. I really think more people should go out of their way to make stupid people feel and look stupid.
People who post a question then an hour or 2 later say "so no one wants to help". This isn't a chatroom, people don't just wait around on the boards all day to answer questions.

Yes, thank you for your concise, yet completely worthless contribution to a question being asked. Once I've managed to trudge through the million or so posts, I will form an opinion if said thread was even remotely useful.
While your extreme enthusiasm and talent in pointing out things that are obvious are appreciated, I would actually like to request information pertaining the stability and whether you have tried it. Since you have not managed answer either question with any one post, I suppose you have failed three things; to answer the two questions I've asked in the OP and at life.
To anyone else reading this, I'm merely berating a neanderthal with near catatonic grasp of the linguistic requirement of reading; please answer the OP question as best you can.
Lolwow, that actually made me laugh, seriously, totally talented phrasing there.
On the matter of the OP:
I haven't tried myself yet (I hope that doesn't rule me out as a potential "may reply guy"), but from what I have gathered so far it's flagged "experimental".
UI stuff mostly works, some other things (like making a call) sometimes work and then don't again.
Definitaly not "daily use" capable, but a very good impression of the work that is already done and to see that work is heading into the right direction.
They say they'll be "stable" around Jan./Feb., so being a coder myself I'd rather think of March / April (NOT meant badly, I just know the countless unforseen reasons a project gets delayed!).
And if you are not as lazy as some of the members here you should aleast read the Op or the first and last 10 pages of the thread you worthless dumbass.. You're so lazy you won't read atleast the OP or last pages to see how it is? Thanks for the honest answer. I was interested in CM9 mainly as a daily driver, since I only have one phone.
As for the Q1 timeline, I have heard from Cyanogen himself and from Samsung that their timeline is similar. I am, of course, near morbidly curious about hardware acceleration on the UI without a Samsung-based kernel.
Please excuse an old man while he brushes up on patience.

Here's my summary of the OP after I have read it:
1. Experimental.
2. Install using CWM, with addons.
3. No bug reports; dev not bothering anyway.
4. Logcat, or GTFO.
That should cover the basics.
Last ten pages summary:
1. Volume problem when headset connected.
2. Volume hack presented, although quite "dirty" as represented by the author.
3. Various other complaints/answers and going off-tangent.
I suppose there are other issues I might add, but the first two points seem to discuss this issue quite a lot. Also, the OP was updated to include said volume hack.
Of course, your answers were quite rage-induced, so I'd like to ask you to calm down and think about what you're saying. Even my twelve-year-old son does better than calling others "immature child" and using the f-word when he feels threatened. That is despite me allowing him unfettered access to Call of Duty multiplayer.
Yeah yeah was not in a good mood already and then i read your somewhat sarcastic reply.. Sorry for what i said and you should'nt answer people like that.. I did reply to you answer (1st one) in a proper way and not a sort of know it all read the op etc type.. Anyway, a new leak will be out this new year (from sammobile) and maybr devs can work on it to minimize the bugs so i'd suggest to wait for the next version..

this is not a good way to start
people may just never going to reply to you with this attitude.
anyway, to answer your questions:
1. i tried the second built, not the 3rd one (just downloaded)
2. it's almost usable, but still a lot of bugs here and there (volume when you connect the headphones, signal lost on some networks, default sms app crashing).
If you don't mind an "almost working but amazing" phone, then go ahead, else i would suggest you to wait another couple of builds at least.

I've read the CyanogenMod 9 thread, have proven that I've read it, and I believe it is impossible for any sane person to have read the entire thread. No CWM right? Hmm, cant you just ODIN a different kernel and then have CWM? Are you rooted? Try the Mobile Odin app, put a differnt kernel on the root of your SD card and try flashing that way.
Or perhaps the worst case scenario is you have to ODIN back to stock to wipe the damages that Rom Manager did.
I hate Rom Manager so much...

You were pointed in the right direction. You were told to read the stickies, which you SHOULD have done before posting in the first place.
You clearly did NOT do this, because, without you even stating what you did, it was obvious to at least three people who read your post what you did wrong, despite the stickies having instructions to NOT DO WHAT YOU DID in the DAMNED THREAD TITLE.
Edit: Oh yeah, and one of the posts here gives you a damn good hint too...
I'm not new to XDA. I couldn't find exactly what I needed to find and was lost. Didn't know which stickies to look at and where. Actually, we'd find much more joy in people just reading the stickies, posting to an existing relevant thread and doing a search before posting. But yeah, we do like our snide remarks, too.
Believe me, I dont find any joy in having to respond to 40+ reported posts on the same OP/thread and then having to close them or move them.
I do find joy in reading humorous, snide and condescending comments though. Those can be really clever sometimes.

Seriously - there's a total of only 13 stickies over 3 I777 subforums.
One of them is marked as a FAQ. You should always read FAQs.
One of them says in the thread title, in capital letters, NOT TO DO SOMETHING. Based on your description of the issue, it is clear to all of us THAT YOU DID IT ANYWAY.
And despite blatant multiple hints (no we're not going to hold your hand and spoonfeed you when you are going to be this lazy or dense), you still haven't figured it out.
Yes, Red, thanks for occasionally leaving a thread open so we can vent.
Actually... wait... I looked more closely at your picture... You didn't use ROM Manager (which often causes the problems you've described) - you're still on stock recovery!
The concept that someone could still be using stock recovery and not understand that stock recovery won't work for anything but wiping... well, seriously, that's so incomprehensible that we'd assumed that at the very least, you'd ****ed up by using ROM Manager to get to CWM recovery.
Edit: That said, the answer to your question IS in the FAQ. Of the only 13 stickies here, at the VERY LEAST you should have read the FAQ. Seriously, FAQ posts are there for a damn good reason.
Howdy all! If you've seen me around you'll know I love being an active member of these forums. With my job I have free time some days (some days NONE lol) and helping people makes me happy. I hate causing problems. But there has been a rash of interesting posts within the last 6 months (maybe going back farther but there has been an increase in the past 6 months that I've noticed) of people beginning their posts with:
" sorry for the noob question, but..."
Also, some start with, " sorry I did a search but I'm pressed for time and...."
OK. Look. When I joined up, I had to watch a video. It showed me how much of a noob I am, and told me to search, then search some more, and finally, SEARCH. Again. Now, maybe I'm crazy, but that is still XDA policy. Just because yer new, it doesn't give u an excuse to be lazy. Just because yer in a hurry , it doesn't give u the right to ignore the rules u agreed to when u signed up here.
I was a noob too. A year ago. Guess what? From day one I searched. And searched. And searched again. Why? Cause I love solving as many problems as I can ON MY OWN. Lets try and get back to that. Google search is a great tool. Yes the mobile app search is limited. But u have a browser on your phone. U can go to the actual site and search there as well. Remember, we're a community. And these rules are put in place to help us and maintain some semblence of order.

I like this guy, but I have low expectations.
I personally have NO issue reading "noobie" questions. Everyone is different and I don't expect they must act like me. For you, me and others who spot a so-called "noob question", if you don't want to help then report the thread/post to mod so they can take care of. Yelling at newbies just makes the matter worse and that have been proved for ......... like you said, the past 6 months.
What irritates me more is SAME person asking the SAME question by creating multiple threads.
Therefore, for us, seniors, if you're not willing to help then just simply walk away from the thread, don't post, don't act like you are the mod.
One other issue, don't be an ass-kisser here.
For newbie, pls read the sticky thread FIRST.
This is 100% correct but you are missing one other important word to go with your "rules, etiquette and respect" slogan and that word is "Attention"
People need to pay attention! So if you could just change the title of the thread to "Rules, Etiquette, Attention, and Respect" or R.E.A.R. for short? Then I think that will cover it. So next time someone asks a question in the wrong thread? I can just point them right to your R.E.A.R.
Most of us are coming to under stand that there is no help what so ever for what the old gaurd calls common qustions so we just go else where
I spent 18 hours sunday working on my phone and I am happy with the results.
The biggest problem is even the fairly detailed instructions leave out the tiniest simple things people do not think of because they just figure everyone on earth should know it.
take for example if you are trying to get your phone ready and going right now the easiest way is to use the directions and flash to a older SU rom then up grade it from there. I searched for hours and could not find an answer to a simple question on why Odin would not upload the files I was trying to load so I had CWM.
In the end the answer, which I figured out my self, was that Odin will not load the .zip files everyone uses for CWM. I accedently tripped over a kernel that was in a different format,.tar, and got lucky.
After that I soft bricked the phone a few times following directions and then ran across the Little bricker Rom that had GREAT directions and loaded first time perfectly.
So for you old timers I might say step back every once in a while when you are writing the great write ups you do and think of the first time you did it. It is the little things that count and are left out most of the time
As Android grows you are going to have to deal with it more and more and you just can't keep kicking people in the teeth or they will not return. GOOD you say? No not good. Not everyone wants an Apple and you do not want to wind up like Nokia or the old PDA platforms that are dead and gone.
So take this how you may. I did get where I needed to go but a simple 20 minute gig took 18 hours to figure out because of the little things all of you take for granted and do not always include.
Thank you for the site
All said here is true but as a noob i must say that there is a lack of usual information here.
A BIG lack...
The problem is visual.
The stickies was made by a dev. Just find a good NOOB to do it and youll be fine.
The first stickie must be how to flash a rom. But this one is not there. It is inside of another stickie at the line 157... cmon
The noob that decides to flash wont read all the stuff. He'll just read the info that he wants.

I don't think there is a lack of information, far from it. I think the problem is that the information is scattered. For example, the guy 2 posts up that tried to use a .zip in Odin...the information that you need to use a .tar is posted in these forums, it's just not in an easily accessible place like the FAQs. I think it's a combination of: lack of organization on the forum's side and laziness on the user's side.
Sorry about my english, there is a communication lack.
you are right, the info was there but people just dont get it...why is that?
Ive edited my previous post...
There is too much info. The noob needs the basic. Step by step he will learn.
Inside the Red stickie, look at the title of the topics listed there.
That is chinese to a noob.
How to flash custom binaries... what a hell is a binarie?
How to flash... the counter?
What... counter?
That is not made for noobies...as i said before, find a noob to do it.

And these rules are put in place to help us and maintain some semblence of order.

you're not even a mod...what gives you the right to post this?
I think some of you have forgotten how this place originally came about and its primary purpose. It was and still is, mostly, a place for developers and development. It was never supposed to be a help desk. That it is a great resource for people needing help is a secondary byproduct, not its raison de'tre. I think this misunderstanding is what leads to incorrect assumptions and expectations and, in turn, hurt feelings when the forum doesn't meet what some think it should be.

I respectfully disagree. The noob does not need a step by step guide. The noob needs to read, research, and learn so that he (or she) can make sense of the available information. a quick guide so the noob "can haz ROM nao" is only going to lead to a disappointed, knowledge lacking noob later on down the line...

And you need to remember that the developers in here, for the most part, don't get paid for what they do. We get all their great stuff for free. Actually, we get it for the cost of doing our own research and finding our own solutions. Seems like a fair trade to me.
And as dandrum noted, helping noobs by leading them by the hand is a bad idea. People need to understand fully what they are doing and what it does because otherwise when they inevitably run into a problem they will have no idea what to do to fix it or where to start to even look. This stuff isn't rocket science, but it does require a certain level of comprehension. it is unfair to expect the unpaid members of this forum to bail people out when something goes wrong because they either didn't do their homework or have no understanding of what they're doing.

From my perspective I feel as though the vast majority of the time I have virtually no reason to post.
This is usually because of one of the following:
a- someone else has asked a question that I do not have the answer to, not that I'm a n00b but do not know or I would rather leave it up to the real devs to deal with it;
b- I would just be either flaming someone for asking a stupid question or leave a stupid question unanswered because some things should just be figured out by yourself; or most importantly
c- if i have a question or some other issue I can search for it or spend time reading through many posts because there are enough people and knowledgeable people around here that at this point my question or any sort of problem has already been answered, or at least the question has already been asked so there is no reason to spam the same questions over and over.
so just always remember before you make a possibly redundant post there are plenty of us sitting back and reading because usually that is all you need to do

**** has been outlined in almost every single thread I have look into.
I've been looking everywhere and just need some direction on where to find a stock Rom for the HTC one for at&t version. Also I want to know if my phone will still be rooted or not afterwards? I know it normally has to be a rooted Rom but that surely wouldn't get rid of root just because I flash a stock Rom? And is flashing it essentially having stock or is there a way I can go completely stock and it not even have access to bootloader and can anymore? Thanks in advance for any help I'm still not very good at this.

Be prepared to get smart ass comments like the one above mine. If you flash a stock Att ROM you will still be rooted. You can find one in the android development section. In order to get rid of custom recovery you would need to run the Att ruu. You first have to relock your boot loader. There are several informative videos on you tube. Just do a Google search for Att ruu for HTC one.

I don't know if it was smartass (it definitely wasn't that smart)...but it was rude.
A person asked a question...and a second person not only did not answer it but tried to shame him/her by saying: "you should look in the right place".
What's up with that??
Why are some of the older members on these forums (some with thousands of posts) so hostile to newbies??

That's exactly what I meant. It happens a lot on XDA. Instead of using your response to help a person, they either have a smart comment or try to make the person asking the question feel stupid.

How do you know this person didn't post in the international section originally and was moved here by a mod? So don't make assumptions like that because I've seen it happens many times. And most of us aren't mean, we just don't feel the need to do all the legwork for said noobies. That gets no one anywhere if people can't figure these things out by themselves they should not be modifying their expensive devices. Not trying to be mean, but we do not want people bricking their phones here.

We don't make anyone feel stupid. If anything they make themselves look stupid especially when the answer they're looking for is right in front of them but they just feel like someone should send them a link because they're entitled to it.

This is exactly why I hate looking for answers on forums. If people would help out and actually provide some helpful answers then people would be able to find the right solution when searching. I can't tell you how many threads and posts I've had to go through because of spiteful responses.

I asked a simple question yesterday (as my first post) and the very first response was a smartass remark...I wasn't even surprised.
There is a lot of nerd rage around these forums I suppose, and been an electrical engineer I am used to dealing with that...but still, I thought this was supposed to be a "community".it'd be funny if everytime one of my neighbors asked me a question about how to do something, I answered like that.
And by funny I mean, I'd be an asshole for answering like that.

First of all... why does it matter if a person posted somewhere else?
Secondly, there is no need to be hostile or defensive...ever.
Third, no one is asking anyone any work...some people are just asking simple questions about how to from A to B.
Fourth, if a person asks a question, and a second person doesn't know the answer then they shouldn't answer. And if their intent is to point in the right direction they could just say:
Hey, check this forum out and here is a link... no need for smartass remarks.

Because if they post in the international section they wouldn't have much help there as most people with the at&t version post here where there is also an ruu.
Second, there's only a few here that may be hostile. Telling people to search is not hostile.
Third, why should we spell it out for someone again if by taking a look around before posting will answer their questions?
Fourth, that's what most people do, except they don't always post links because they shouldn't have to. Most people I see tell the person with the problem exactly where to find the answer and linking to it isn't necessary. Do some people do it? Sure, but it shouldn't be necessary.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I understand there are some stupid questions asked on XDA but overall the attitude is hostility. It's been that way since I started rooting/flashing 4 years ago. XDA is very intimidating as a noobie. You have to learn lingo/terms and even as a half way experienced flasher I still read read read and sometimes am unclear on some things. There are a lot of helpful people on here and the devs are amazing but sometimes honest questions get ripped.

Telling people to search may not be hostile but is douchie...If the person is in these forums is because they are searching. If I know the answer to a question that someone asks, I have two options, I can either choose to answer it or choose not to answer it. If I choose to not answer it then I should not type a smartass remark.
So here is a simple suggestion for some of the most hostile older members of these forums...
If you don't feel like you should answer a person's questions then don't ****ing answer the question...Why spend the extra effort to try to be a smartass??
---------- Post added at 11:33 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:18 AM ----------
By the way Nick...
You have not been hostile to me...just to be clear...
Which baffles me that you are defending some of the a-holes who are.
I agree people shouldn't be aholes but I'm just trying to explain why the attitude around here is the way it is, I started as a noob once (back in the captivate days) the first thing I did when I tried to root that thing was mess it up, and I was able to fix it by myself without asking for the easy way out. Most people expect everyone who joins to do that so that's why people say "search before posting" and if you still can't find the answer then no one will be hostile in any way and will most likely answer your question politely. That's all, I understand it's intimidating but we just encourage people to problem solve by themselves first and ask questions after

No need to do that. When I know the answer to a question I either choose to answer it or not answer it... To say "hey, go search search"...is rude.
What makes you think that person wasn't searching? I can tell you if they found these forums is because they are searching...and perhaps they could not find the answer.

Usually you can tell, especially with people that make new threads like" how do i return to stock?" those kinds of things make it obvious that the person didn't look at all. Most of the time I will point them in the right direction and hope they can figure it out on their own, otherwise they shouldn't root/mod their phones. That's all.

The problem is that there are so many threads with misinformation and you never know which method to follow since there aren't many "official" threads in how to do something. Most of the time I search and read various methods and then will usually have to go with the mostly used method.
What I describe above is what is wrong with the internet in general.. not just xda.
You never know who knows what and when you find an answer your hoping it's right.. but I've been burned before where you follow someones suggestion, but then 20 minutes later, someone with more experience gives the right solution.

few quick questions
I flashed the Google Edition ROM earlier today and I have a couple of quick questions about the Google Edition ROM...
Right now my home screens are set to 4x4 arrays and the # of icons on the dock is also limited. Is there anyway to change this while using the stock launcher? I have the Nova launcher installed now, but I was wondering if there was any level of customization that could be done on the stock launcher?
Also the stock launcher is not allowing me to re-size widgets and such...is that a by product of this "Google Edition" using the Sense framework?
Lastly is the Trebuchet launcher on CM any better when it comes to customization? And anyone who has tried both and has an opinion one way or the other?
I'll greatly appreciate the help.
Flashed the CM10.1 June 28 nightly played with it for almost a day...liked it a lot but will stick to the Google Edition ROM for the time being...mostly based on Stability (and silly as it may sound the Beats Optimization)
Will probably switch to CM 10.1 once it reaches Release Candidate status or Stable version.
Great job so far...I really really like where CM is heading.
I have to agree with all of you in one way or another. When a person asks for help trying to locate information about their device. it really is not hard to either answer with a proper response of, Did you search for your info? Where did you look? And there certainly is no problem with going, this is what your looking for, hope i helped. (link)
As a senior member myself, i still have had times where i asked for some assistance because i could not find exactly what i was looking for, I have read, and searched, and searched, and read. and when i have asked questions... i have gotten one of two responses, here is what you are looking for, hope i helped you out. And the other being, you are not entitled to any help, go search, if you dont have time to search, you shouldn't be in the forums or modifying your device. also.. you must not mod alot of devices if you have to ask that question, you surely don't know what you are doing.
People here can be rude. if a person doesn't want to help, here is the thought.. you are entitled to keep your mouth shut instead of be a smart ass and let someone who is willing and patient to help the newbie understand what they are doing and help guide them. this is how beginners turn into our next gen of devs. and certain people acting like A**es makes them not want to be part of this community. I have gotten rid of certain devices because i couldnt tolerate the rude ignorant remarks in those device communities. it is also another reason that i dont do dev work anymore and dont post as much as i used to. People are rude.
i feel entitled to ask a question in hopes of an answer that may help me. you are entiled to keep your mouth shut if you plan on being rude in regards to said question.
to my last statement..... you have a better chance at scratching a bobcats ass, than coming up to me and talking to me in that sweet sister ass voice.
help the person or not. but at least have some dignity not to be an a**hole!!
