system partition not accessible - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
i installed a custom rom and later wanted to flash back the official KE7
i got into a boot loop which i was able to resolve by doing a manual factory reset (vol up+home+power), but i am getting the message during boot time after every rom flash that it cannot access the system area !!!!!
how can i remedy this and get back to "like new" KE7 firmware
Thanks

Boot into recovery and do a wipe/factory reset and then flash stock rom.

did that

Thanks i already did that, but same problem is still there.
Strange that there is no easy way posted to get back to "Like new" firmware status

Try using my Frankenstein KE7 package with the 3 separate components and flashing with that. Make sure you get the CSC that you require from under it if the multi-CSC package doesn't match your device CSC.

sorry i was wrong, it is not that the phone cannot access the system partition. The exact message is:
Installing multi-csc....
can't access to '/system/csc/xeu/system/'.
successfully applied multi-csc
apparently there is something wrong with the csc data, help please

Ok, this is a non issue. Sammy seems to have pooped on their firmware package, it's that way on all of them.

I wouldn't have tried this as your phone is i9100P, although I know the difference isn't that big.
Also, was your phone rooted? It had to have been rooted beforehand.

Hi, yes it was rooted prior to this, but i thought the only difference was that the P version had NFC - but now it seems I am stuck at the boot screen - any ideas? I would appreciate it a lot!

Yes, that should help. Btw what version you are downloading? 4.0.3 or 4.0.4?

I am downloading 4.0.3 from here: devsrom4android.blogspot (DOT)co (DOT) uk/2012/06/i9100pxxlph-o2-uk-samsung-galaxy-s2-gt.html
4.0.3 is what I previously had, and I believe that was the exact firmware I had on the phone (o2 NFC version)

That's your problem. You were on 4.0.3, which is ICS.
The instructions at galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-rooted-galaxy-s2-i9100/ don't specify, but they are for Gingerbread ONLY. The recovery kernel contained within that zip package is ClockworkMod Recovery 4.0.1.4, which is for Gingerbread.
This thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693) is the updated version of that recovery kernel for ICS.
You don't have to flash the full firmware, just flash a kernel that is meant to work with ICS and you should be fine.

Thanks for the advice - but i already have the stock ROM on an SD card so i think i will flash this. Problem is i cannot get CWM to read from the external SD card, so i cannot locate the zip and install it - help?
EDIT: if i install the kernel you gave me the link to ([KERNEL][ICS] ClockworkMod Recovery 5.5.0.4) , will it remove the root access i had?
EDIT 2: I have just flashed the kernel via odin, and it finally got past the screen with the yellow triangle! However, it is now stuck on the second screen which shows the 'S' logo with the words 'Samsung Galaxy SII' under it. Any more ideas?

Can you boot to recovery? If so, you can try a factory reset/wipe data. You'll lose all your data, (not counting pictures/media) but at this point, do you have anything to lose?

Well, now I'd say you need to flash a full firmware. You said you downloaded I9100PXXLPH from here? Should work. But you'll no longer be rooted, and you won't have CWM recovery.
How did you get into this in the first place? You wanted CWM recovery?

I will be sure to try that, and basically earlier today i rooted it successfully, and then i had to get CWM onto it so i could start flashing new ROMs etc, and i tried installing CWM via that method that has now caused all of this
Never the less i will try your suggestion, so should i basically mount usb from CWM, then copy the firmware over to the phone, unmount, and then wipe, and then flash it finally?
EDIT: it wont allow me to mount USB in CWM
can i just flash the ZIP using odin in download mode, or does it have to be a .tar file?

No. That download is for a package that must be flashed while the phone is in download mode. That will require you to use a computer, and a flashing tool, such as Odin or Heimdall.

How would I go about flashing it in download mode, i really have no idea as I don't think you can flash zip files in odin, forgive me for all of the questions I really appreciate your help!
EDIT: I have unzipped the file and hooray lies in it the .tar.md5 file! I am in the middle of flashing this and will report back on results
Thanks a lot guys!!
THANKS GUYS FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP, my SII is now working fully again! Cheers to all that helped, flashing the stock firmware worked with wipe/cache
Can't thank you enough!
Last thing if you don't mind, i want to root it again using this: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582)
Now after that, how can i install CWM without getting into the mess i got into today? cheers!
Nope, I think that's for GB. For easy root use method 1 from 1st guide in my signature.

Well I think Chainfire's CF-Root kernels (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399) are not for i9100P, so not sure if he can achieve permanent CWM recovery. Anyway if he don't plan to flash every hour new ROM he should be fine with latest temporary CWM 6: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840223 although will ask Phil about compatibility.

Can you get into CWM (I assume you can from above statement)?
Can you get into Download mode?

After the Jelly Bean update, the device kept in reboot loop and everytime it runs, it shows the screen, hangs, then reboots. I did full factory recovery, restored to the stock 4.0.4 and still the problem persists. It sounds to me like hardware failure. However, I am still able to install ROMs, root and reach both recovery and download screens. Installing stock ROMs did not change the custom firmware counter into "0".
All what I need now is Flash Counter Reset so that the "Custom Binary" is set to "No" and counter is set to "0".
I cannot use TriangleAway app, as I cannot reach apps, even I cannot activate!!
So I need a CWM-flashable one if you can help me on this.

did you try to do a mega wipe to have a 100% clean slate (it is different from factory reset) and try to flash a stock 4.0.4 rom afterwards?
I am not aware of any way to reset flash counter from CWM, maybe there is one from Odin/Download Mode?
TA is the only method .

here you go, just flash in CWM, but again be careful as it erases anything (not efs folder though), hence prepare a flashable rom on your ext sd card.

Thank you. But when I choose to apply zip from sdcard, an error appears showing "Can't Mount /sdcard"
It is NOT hardware failure.
An unsuccessful ROM installation attempt does not damage the hardware. Your chances of having Samsung replace your phone are near zero.
It will help you if you tell us EXACTLY how you tried to install the JB ROM: what tools you used, what options you set, and so on.

1- Downloaded stock JB Rom from SamMobile.com. Unzipped to get the .tar file (XSG).
2- Using Odin3 v3.07, I chose it as PDA. Ticked ONLY "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time".
3- After auto-rebooting, I could work for like 5 minutes on the device using internet, apps, etc. Suddenly, the device rebooted and went into endless boot loop.
I think it is hardware failure, because when I attempted to install CWM Touch 6.0, everytime I enter to recovery menu the phone enters the same boot loop!! Hangs, unresponsive screen, then reboots from the recovery menu!

[Q] question about firmware and rom

Hello,
well, i'm beginner in all the android custom stuff but yesterday, I wanted to try jelly bean on my galaxy tab 10.1 wifi version.
So I've installed a rom custom with this tuto androidauthority.com/galaxy-tab-10-1-wifi-p7510-paranoid-android-2-custom-rom-114133/
But i'm not satisfied with it and i want to go back on the previous version I had : official ICS.
So i've a question : are the firmware (download on sammobile for exemple) simply updates or complete ROM that we can install on our devices?
In both cases, i would like to find a way to get back an official rom...:crying:
Can you help me please?
First rule of Android modding. Always make a backup in recovery. If you had you could just boot to recovery and restore the backup. To answer your question the firmware downloads from sammobile are indeed fully stock roms. They are designed to be flashed with Odin (.tar.md5 files) flash them in Odin the same way you flashed a recovery, point to the .tar file with PDA slot in Odin.

Tanks for reply,
Actually, I did a backup before, like the tuto said, but when i want to restore, i've an error during the restauration of the data so it stop and don't restore.
And like you said, I've flashed the file from sammobile with Odin and the installation seems to work but when I reboot in normal mode, I'm stuck at the Samsung logo screen.
So do you know a way to reinstall proprely an official ICS ROM, even if I have to format my tablet?
thanks for help

After downgrading, it's a good idea to wipe data/factory reset from whatever recovery you have (stock or CWM). Factory reset may resolve this.
Note that the first boot after an installation is slow.. the logo screen stays around for several minutes if I remember right.

Dm verity verification failed is problem with Imei.
Have you tried to flash the firmware that I posted?
1st - go into download mode on device. Hold home power and up.
Plug device in to odin.. on odin it should have blue box saying COM:1 or something like that.
Extract the firmware and put the .tar file in AP.
Make sure auto reboot and re partition are UNCHECKED.
Then start.
Try this and post a screenshot on here of odin one it's finished.
I had exactly the same issue and flashing this firmware fixed it.

my G925I just restarted and never be able to boot again, so i enter to stock recovery and wiped cache data BUT no luck, and flashed a stock firmware and still the same, it's boot to stuck recovery and show installing updates BUT at 30% its stop and saying "erasing" then its reboot and stay in bootloop,
i managed to get into download mode and flashed TWRP recovery, when ever i try to flash a rom the phone restart again and enter bootloop and it's never shutdown!!
tried :
1- wipe everything
2- flash more than one stock firmware
3- flash recovery and succeeded BUT it's keep restarting !
4- flash custom ROM BUT no luck, keep restart at installing !
5- flashed custom kernel and it WORKED :good:
for now i can only boot into download mode without restart
have a solution ? :crying:

This is a soft boot due to the fact you still have the ability to access recovery and such what i would suggest you do is get factory files and restore phone back to stock and start over this should fix your problem. If you look around XDA you will find the files you will need ODIN being the main tool you will use to flash your phone.

You have flashed a stock firmware with stock bootloader etc. using odin and still stuck in a soft brick ? remember to wipe the phone a rule of thumb i use is to wipe the phone 3 times before i flash and 3 times after i flash. during the first boot up it may take a little time to boot as it must rebuild the cache. I dont think it is a motherboard issue i think you may have just flashed a wrong file that needs to be wiped out before continuing on. i have had this problem in the past with a galaxy s2 when i was developing custom roms for it. it took me a couple of wipes and factory firmware reflashes but i eventually got the phone back in working order. look here for the factory files you will need to re flash your phone with odin ----> https://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-G925I/ also make sure you are using the latest version of ODIN you will to put your phone in download mode instead of recovery
Hi, could you fix it ?? I am facing the same issue.
