I found an application on the market called 'Swapper for root' , which creates a swap memory to speed up your android device.
I tried it and found some great improvement on my regular usage speed. Search ' swapper' on the market and install.
Some changes i noted-
* No lagging in 'Abduction when switching to full graphic detail
* Home screen more responsive
*Apps loading a bit faster
*ROOT REQUIRED*
Let me know if the app does good for you!

I've just edited the post Read
Just tried this on my mini pro.
The app works, as far as i can see but by using the busybox free command, as recommended by the app owner, it does not use any swap memory.
There is a swap file created on the sdcard though!
Any thought on this?
Thanx for mentioning the app!

This works, thanks!

i have not rooted and yet my mini never lags while playing abduction at full graphics
Mine does

Looks interesting, but where do I get a kernel with swap support (or just a kernel module would be fine) for x10 mini?
Ok.
I have come to know that it lags abit in some stages having rain ex japanese jump.
So i may root and install it
Thanks dude
Seems working. Thanx for sharing.

Exactly, but why do people claim it works?
Maybe a placebo effect? I dunno. Will give this a try though...
OT
Abduction works flawlessly on my x10 mini pro. Even NFS Shift works smoothly. The only app that stall in the middle of the game for me is iBasket. I have to kill some apps before playing it.
-Pabs
Abduction gets sluggish on the stage where it rains !!
Buat... The real name of the app is swap for root 2?
Thank You!
Well it works fine
How swap works
In my opinion it doesn't makes sense because swap is used just when does not there any memory ram available in the system, and if that occurs frequently there something wrong, maybe there are many apps installed; more than the phone can handle.
To know if this app is making effect, download "terminal emulator" and type "free -m". That will show how much swap space is used. If it is 0 this swap app does not make any effect.
Means it using our SDcard as RAM when the internal ram is used up?
Sure will the SDcard class type play some role too?
And running this apps in the background is also some resources eater as well as battery drainer??
Does it actually work? And if it does, does it save a significant amount of battery?
Ive heard it works and I've heard it doesn't work I dont use it I get about 16 - 20 hours with moderate use using the freeze option in titanium backup pro this belongs in q&a btw
My bad on the Q&A part. But thanks for the help.

How, using the freeze option in Ti Backup to freeze an app, save your battery?
Some apps don't stop running when you back out of them some system apps run all the time but are not needed freeze them and they won't eat your battery all day long .......longer battery life!
Sorry for the noob question but how do you figuer out which app is running all the time even when its not showing up in the default task manager. I would love to use this feature to get more juice out of my battery.
System panel is an app you can get and see what apps are running in the background and if there not crucial to the system freeze them I would ask someone before freezing anything though cause you could really screw up your phone and have to odin back to stock which isn't that bad just a pain in the ass

Not to get off topic, but does anyone have a list or recommend common apps to freeze? I see it mentioned a lot and everyone says ask someone before freezing, but I never see examples of what is safe and what is not.

Freeze drm and samsung apps and media hub and then I freeze whatever apps I don't use cause some apps have core functionally if you freeze them you'll get f/c but I'll try to make a list of things I freeze and post it later

I'm curious about this as well. Is there a good rule of thumb abou what things are not going to cause problems to freeze?
Now, I freeze the basic stuff, like Allshare, etc. because I don't use them, but I'd like to dig deeper into what services can actually be frozen as well.

Hi people,
I'm a new android user (owns X10 Mini Pro) coming from iPhone.
I love the phone so far. It's not rooted, I have installed Helix launcher, some apps I use like FB, Twitter, YM, Foursquare, Dolphin Browser, etc to name a few. I have installed an updated Google Maps 5.0 as well and the stock Gallery of Android 2.1 (since the Album app is boring in Mini Pro) . So far everything's good.
Can anyone recommend anything I can do to pimp up my phone? Any "useful" apps?
It's ok to root the phone as long as the reason has some worth apps to install and as long as it will NOT 'slow down' my phone.
I was an iPhone user for more than 2 years and I want to get convinced if Android is really better than iPhone, so bring in all recommendations (and instructions)
Thanks!

Install Zeam launcher (very fast and easy to use) and Fancy Widget, which gives you weather, time and battery status on one widget.
Install a nice offline navigation app that works in the Philippines like NavDroyd. It works offline and you don't need internet connection in navigation.
Install WiFi Tethering SW like Barnacle. It comes handy when you're not in a WiFi hotspot and you need internet connection for your laptop. Assuming you 'forgot' to bring your Globe broadband dongle.
Install Windows95 (or is it 98?). Try searching the x10 forums about that. Not useful but cool.
If you want a bit of extra speed.. the ultimate Pimp is enabling JIT.. if you haven't already, thats a good place to start... it will make apps and games like angry birds a bit quicker. (you need to Root you phone first, but that's easy)
(download Quadrant benchmark from the Market to see what your current speed score is then try again after JIT, you will not be dissapointed)

besides making the games faster, can it also make the phone (itself) faster? like scrolling to homecreens, opening settings, texting, etc?

I don't think so. I'm only using wireless tethering. It would be useful though since barnacle consumes battery a lot.

I feel stupid! I thought the name of the app to enable JIT is Ultimate Pimp. Hahaha. kept looking for it in the Market.
I realized you mean like 'a great tweak for speed' is enabling JIT. Didn't know enabling JIT needs some commands.
Will definitely try this one when i get home

yeah i thought so. and im thinking wired tether is faster than wireless.
i saw a wired tethering app called EasyTether which doesnt require root, but I think its a trial version which cannot open secured sites, unless you pay.
But I guess bernacle is good. i can always plug the phone via USB while tethering just to keep battery power right?
thanks!

Dunno about u all, but if JIT is installed to my phone, it always creating a problem for my Wifi connection. Maybe for safe step, reflash it first then install Root + JIT, then anything else follows..
Wanting to use "Advanced Task Killer" app instead of rooting: Good or Bad idea?
Hi folks,
Since I've decided not to root my phone, I need an alternative.
I noticed the "Advanced Task Killer" app and wondered if this helps to stop bloatware.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Thank you kindly,

Well, maybe with ICS coming out for the Amaze 4G, app/task management will be better??!
Who knows?
Thanks again
I currently use advanced task killer. Is anything wrong with it?

Once you kill it the program will restart itself. No matter what every time you kill it, it will restart. which will cause your phone to lag and use more battery than the phone would if everything was running. The way the android operating system is designed is to have every program running in the background. How ever the program isn't actually running. Using task killers can do more harm than good when it comes to things like bloatware. It can cause and has caused my phone crash. Id just use Titanium backup to get rid of what you can. Overall I'd just use the task manager installed in the amaze because I stopped using a task killer and i get better performance as well as the same battery life ect.
I've always stayed away from using task killers unless I'm really desperate to free up some RAM... In general, I always just freeze whatever apps I don't want running at all (eg. bloatware, stock messing app, Sense if I'm using a third party launcher, etc) and never had any noticeable issues with not having enough free RAM

Most kernel devs (people who really know how stuff like this are handled) will tell you to stay away from task killers.

The problem with Juice Defender is that most of the power saving settings can be achieved without the app, and the screen off/data off feature sucks for people like me who use and rely heavily on messaging apps. I use Kik and GTalk heavily and even setting the data sync at 5 minute increments is still annoying.
If you don't use your phone this way, then I would definitely recommend juice defender.
MORE SMOOTHNESS, MORE SPEED, LESS LAGS
you don't have to use Task Killer!
Try This: RAM Manager PRO OR RAM Manager FREE
The thread is here
Having a really tough time here. I can switch from xda app to browser and back to xda and I have to scroll back to the EVO LTE forums. Annoying. I do hope a custom Rom can fix this. If this is my phone for the next two years as the EVO 4G was, then I need it to multitask.
On a side note, in settings> developer settings, what advantages does selecting At most 4 processes have over Standard limit? I wonder what the standard limit is. Though, from using either, I see no noticeable improvement over multitasking.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
Yeah, the multitasking is garbage. Screens re-fresh when you switch to them, losing your place or any work you've done. Quite annoying.
Does changing that to no limit help with it? You may have some apps auto starting and trying to push everything else out of memory. Also be sure that the "don't keep activities" box is not checked

With 1gb of RAM, it shouln't matter.
As far as app/RAM management, I don't see a difference from EVO 4G with 512mb Oops did i say that o_o
I had a thread here about the problems multitasking. It was especially annoying with moving files in dropbox to the sd card. If you left the app it stopped exporting.
If you are rooted (and why wouldn't you be?) Someone in that thread was nice enough to share this, which hasn't solved all the problems but has helped significantly. I can now dropbox export and even play some games. It isn't perfect, but it is better. Plus I figure it is only a matter of time until the devs fix it for us anyway

Yes, the multitasking is terrible on this phone. Nearly every app refreshes even if I leave it for only a few seconds.
Edit: as someone suggested in the linked thread above, I used Rom Toolbox Pro and set the auto memory manager preset to "mild." multitasking already seems so much better!

I have also been going nuts about this. I'm going to try this memory manager trick and will let you guys know how it works.
CM9 helps. Unfortunately as long as HTC says everything is working fine, this is probably our only real option.
At least it's working amazingly well.
