Bricked TB - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
My TB (rooted and running VIRUS ROM) froze earlier and would not do anything until i pulled the battery. When I did it booted up but did so as if I did a hard reset and now gets stuck in the ANDROID splash screen and will not boot up at all. I dont know what happend but is this phone bricked?

What did u do to it to cause it bootlooping

First off, wrong forum.
Second, the answer is:
No. If you can get past the bootloader, then your not bricked.
Reflash the ROM (don't format /data) or just a new kernel and that should fix it.

have you tried to connect to PC and run
adb reboot bootloader

Click to collapse
you can also try to power off and power it on while holding on the volume down button

Boot the phone with power/vol down pressed…. will bootloader run?

Please note: if you have a PG05IMG file in the root of your sd card, recovery will only allow you to run that update. I had to remove my card, insert it into a USB/micro-sd card reader, delete that file, then reboot phone with volume down. From there, you can choose recovery and flash appropriate files. If you don't have a microsd card reader, may need to put in another phone and tehter with USB to gain access to card files. Hope this helps.

[Q] went from das bamf 1.4 to gingersense 2.1 now stuck in htc loop help

I made the change from das bamf 1.4 to gingersense2.1 and now I'm stuck in HTC loop, I can't recover or anything, I'm so bummed please help
Did you wipe through CWM? Are you on the correct radio version?
Boot into hboot and then restore from previous backup or reflash ROM. (Shut the phone down/Hold the Volume down/Then press the power button)
Similar thing happened to me, but not due to the Roms you mentioned. Here is how I was able to get out of the boot loop.
Before You Begin:
1. Perform the steps below at your own risk!
2. Make sure you have a USB micro SD Memory Card Reader (~$6)
3. Charge your phone's battery as best you can, or use a spare battery
4. Download Rom of choice to your computer
5. Do some research into removing the micro SD Card as needed
6. Don't Panic! (I Love to Say This!)
Here We Go:
A. Remove battery from phone
B. Remove SD Card
C. Insert SD Card into USB micro SD Card Reader
D. Plug micro SD Card Reader into USB port on computer
E. When prompted, select option to view folder contents
F. Rename Rom PG05IMG (Keep .zip extension - PG05IMG.zip)
G. Copy PG05IMG.zip onto root of SD Card
H. Eject micro SD Card Reader from computer
I. Install SD Card in phone and then install battery
J. Press and hold Volume Down & Power buttons until phone boots into recovery
K. PG05IMG.zip should be automatically recognized by recovery
L. When prompted, press (Not Hold) Volume Up button to start update
M. Wait for flash to complete (Be patient, get an ice cold Root Beer!)
N. When prompted, press (Not Hold) Power button to initiate reboot
O. Wait for phone to boot (Be patient, get another ice cold Root Beer!)
P. If all goes well your phone will live to fight another day!
Personally, I reset my phone after following this process. I then perform a wipe and flash the Rom a second time before setting up my phone. Some will say this is overkill though.
Try to boot into recovery (pull battery, hold volume down and power button). Wipe Cache then Wipe Dalvik Cache, then reboot and see.
i did all the steps from above EXCEPT trying to rename any ol rom, i did try to reflash the final rom from the rooting process, to the save results , stuck on the htc white screen loop. i was using das bamf ginger remix , had it working , but with no signal when i powerd phone down to reboot is when i got the loop, from what im reading there is no cure?????? ill try to reflash a different rom ,, but really need the link to put it back to stock to return to verizon, please help
Don't panic. Somebody here will be able to help you, and after you are done, you will not need to return your phone to Verizon. Renaming that file to PG05IMG.zip is important to get it to read in H boot. are you able to boot into recovery at all? and if so, do you have any other roms still saved on your sd card?
Also, how long are you waiting for the screen to change?
I can get into recovery for a second then loop starts all over again

You need to have a Rom on the root of your SD Card named PG05IMG.zip for recovery to provide an option to flash. As I mentioned before, I was stuck on the HTC screen and recovery would not work, but I was able to escape the boot loop by placing a renamed Rom on the SD Card. Try it, it works!

Boot loop + Radio on root = brick?

Hi,
So I really did it this time. I forgot to delete the radio I flashed yesterday from the phone's root folder and upon restoring to what appears to be a non-working version of DASBAMF I'm stuck with:
BAMF that loads but only to my background image. The touch screen doesn't respond, the soft keys don't do anything. Volume buttons wake the screen and so does the power button. But, when I hold the power button down, the reboot options don't come up. The status bar updates, I can see emails coming in. When I plug in the device to USB it goes into charge only mode.
OR
Hboot that finds the radio immediately. Flash or don't flash the radio and all I can do is reboot.
I'm on Windows 7 64bit and I've tried to install and setup ADB per these directions: http://www.thunderboltforums.com/forum/htc-thunderbolt-development/315-android-sdk-adb-driver.html
as well as the HTC sync software. I can't get ADB to recognize the device nor HTC sync.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do to either remove the radio or somehow get into recovery?
Turn off the phone, remove the micro sd card, put it in your pc card and remove the radio. When you put the micro sd card back in the phone hboot will look for the file and not find it, you can then choose recovery.

If your PC has a multimedia card reader, you should get a SDcard adapter, and insert the micro SDcard from your Thunderbolt into it. Then you can delete the PG051.img via Windows Explorer.
After a few such experiences, I wouldn't root my phone unless I had a PC with a mmc reader and an adapter. It's a lifesaver.
Same thing happened to me a while back, except I didn't have a PC available, but luckily was able to put the card in my gf's phone and delete it that way
Thanks for the help guy. I didn't realize the radio was on the SD card (duh) and I could just take the card out, boot into hboot -> recovery, and then factory wipe.
If the ROM was truly in a bootloop, I would have had to use a PC to remove the p05img.zip. Thanks for the help.

[Q] help me i think i change rom in wrong way now i cant on my phone

i rom my htc incredibles(rooted) with sense 3.0 rom with rom manager... it reboot and stuck on loading i on bootloader to restore and it does not work after that i factory reset ,but i still cant on my phone
can someone help me pls ..i'm so dead if my mom found out
ALRIGHTY so what you need to do is turn your phone off completely, if this requires a battery pull, that take out the battery and put it back in. Then hold the volume down button, and the power button, hold them until your phone starts, then use the volume buttons to scroll down to recovery, this reboot your device into recovery mode, then choose reset phone/factory default. Let it run, then, mount disk drive in recovery, download this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1191936 place it on your SD card, then install zip from sdcard, that should flash, the new ROM onto the phone, and you should be able to boot let me know if you have any questions.
thank and nid one more help
how can i mount disk drive using recovery

[Q] Rooted Thunderbolt - Verizon Update - Installation Failed

i rooted my thunderbolt and have CWM 4.0.1.4
Apparently verizon released an update today and my phone tried to update on its own. when i work up my phone is in CWM saying
E:signature verification failed
Instillation aborted
If i reboot it just immediately tries to run the update again and fails, so i'm in this loop.
what can i do?
thanks for any help!
I'm a newby myself so others correct me if I stumble, but I think you can pull out your micro SD card, connect to your PC, and download a working rom image to the root of the card (not in a folder). It will have a name like PG05IMG.zip
Put the sd card back in, hold the volume down button as you hold the power button to turn it on to get into the bootloader, press the power button again, and it will look for the PG05IMG.zip and install it.
is there anyway to correct the current issue w/o installing a new ROM?
i would prefer not to have to install a custom ROM and wipe my data if possible
That is a good question, above my pay grade, but I am guessing what happened was the Verizon release you got today was corrupt. I would guess you can pull your SD card, and look if it downloaded a PG05IMG.zip file to it, and just delete it. Or try rebooting without the SD card installed just to see what happens?
This post had the solution, no data wipe and even kept root

Anything with a PG05IMG.zip is for a new radio, not a new ROM. Many people have been having this problem, but the solution is also above my paygrade

[Q] Lost recovery

I was trying to partition my external SD card through Rom Manager and it said I needed CWM installed, so I did it. The problem is, I had TWRP already installed and now I can't get into recovery. It will just stay at the Asus logo screen. I am having trouble getting into Fastboot as well. It just seems to freeze whenever I press vol up on anything. I am able however to boot normally into android so at least I'm not bricked. What should I do?

when you go into fastboot it doesnt do much. try this hold vol down while powering up. then when you have 4 icons let go and push vol down until the usb symbol is highlighted then push vol up. this is fastboot mode. then do this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34359560&postcount=5497
Yeah I saw that earlier. But my project for today was to get HB going with data2sd. Can I flash that one you posted fix it, then flash the regular TWRP to be able to do data2sd?
Edit: Nevermind, got it!
