Do it via the custom recovery (AmonRA, ClockworkMod) under "Partition SD card"

there are so many options... which one shud i use

Go to partition sd card. Then partition it use standard values if u want. Swap 32mb n sd ext 512mb or whatever u want. Then cnvert ext2 to ext3 and cnvert ext3 to ext4

Which recovery are you using? I suppose it's AmonRA.
Go to "Partition sdcard", then choose "Partition SD ", after that set Swap 0 , sd ext 512MB.
You don't need to convert to ext3 or ext4 because by default after partitioning you will get an ext2 and it is the fastest.

this is the right procedure for amonra and if using clockwork just create a 512mb partition it will automatically convert the partition to ext 4,choose swap 0
note:make sure u have a class 4 sd card atleast to avoid any issues

Why do you want to partition it? If you want to use it for App2SD, Link2SD etc., the instructions are already there in the relevant threads, telling you how exactly it needs to be partitioned.

how do i check the class of my sd card?
i have them both amonra nd clockwork. which one do u recommend i use.

jus chkk the sd card if u have 2 emboss on a circle or nothing writen its a class 2 so whatever the circle states thats the class of sd card.
this is the quickest way to know the class and as far as recovery is concerned clockwork is best as per my pref

Ok I have a class 2 sdcard.. is it good???? Also which ext shud I use for this.

- Not really, class 2 is slow.
- Kindly finally go and read what the instructions for the ROM you want to flash. franco kernel supports ext[234] so it does not really matter which you use.

My 4GB card is just not enough for me and when I plan to get a higher one how would I do the switch process? I'm running CM7 by Mik. Will the ROM be affected in any way when I switch cards? Can someone outline the process?
I think that the rom doesnt matters..i did it like this.....
Connect your phone to pc
Copy all folders to desktop(just copy not move)
Disconnect the phone
Turn of the phone
Change sd card
Connect again to pc and copy the files from desktop to sd card
Your done

If you are using a ext already than yes. You should also backup your apps and restore it on to the new sdcard

Just speed. Therefore class 6 is recommended

sori for the noob-ish question, but what do i do with that ext and partition" that u are talking about??^__^
Another way would be backup using custom recovery, replace new SD and partition and finally, restore ur backup
Nvr bad to copy everything to computer

A partition is used by the data2sd mod. If you haven't partitioned your card when you flashed the ROM then you won't need to partition this one. Just copy all your files in your PC and paste them on your new card.
tnx a lot!!! even though i flashed a rom, partition does not have anything to do with it, right??? so i'll just copy all the files and it's fine?
There are some ROMs that require an ext partition, but mik_os's cm7 does not require one.
Yes, just copy the files and that's it.

I have an 8 GB Class 2 SD Card, does it make a huge difference? I'm guessing as in speed your talking about phone performance? Should I not use the 8 GB I have and buy another one with a higher class or does it not matter enough to get a new one?
Don't use a class2 sdcard, it's way too slow. Class 6 or higher recommended.

If the seller has a picture of the SD card the class should be next to the amount of GB and circled. So a Class 4 should have a circled 4.
thanks! ^__^

Noob alert question-apps to ext

I know I can move apps to SD, its an option by going to manage applications. What I want to know is how can I move all of my apps to ext to save even more internal memory. I'm currently on void forever. I'm not using ungazed or darktremor. I did download S2E from market but it only allows moving of downloading data. I don't want to run my entire phone off of SD just applications. Along time ago about 2 months ago I did set up a partition l. I forgot the specifics but currently I'm using a class 6 8gb card, so I know it was higher than 512mb

There is no way to move all the apps you want to sd in froyo without ungaze&co.
In cyanogenmod you can move every app you want to sd but apps with widgets will cause errors and other apps wich were not designed to be moved to sd will not run 100% correctly.
With ungaze, I flash the zip than what?

Flash the zip then your apps will be moved automatically to your ext partition.
But there's a catch: in time it is possible to damage your sd card because the apps will run directly from the sd wich is not really designed for too much r&w.
Appreciate the help

Errr.. You are confused.
1. S2E does move apps to the ext partition on CM7 based roms.
2. I suppose you want to use ungaze's data2sd based on your previous posts, A2SDGUI doesn't work with that.
3. Yes you require an ext2 partition. Simply use recovery, minitool or gparted.
link2sd is an amazing app I absolutely love it on my vm670 which has so little internal memory.

Ext patrition
Link2SD works only you have EXT patrition on the MicroSD.
If you haven't, first make the EXT patrition. (EXT2)

Think you have that the wrong way ,;-) ext2 is ancient.....

You can still move these 2 apps to sd. To be able to do so, u will first need to remove these apps from ur system/apps folder using root explorer. And then download these apps from playstore. And then these apps could be successfully moved to sd without hving a need of ext2 partition
Sent from my MT11i using xda premium
Or use systemcleanup to move turn system to data, then you can move to sd
Sent from my MT11i using Tapatalk
Just open the Link2SD and click on the app you want to move. First make it a "user app" from the options and then click on the link to sd button.
