i put the framework-res into a flashable zip for recovery, but had to sign the zip.
Update i found the xml file, its in the styles.xml. But im having trouble recompiling after making the edit.

To change the text in menu popup to white edit the styles.xml
In the styles.xml change:

The modification is at the end of the first line [parent="@style/Trans"]
Also you need to add the following style somewhere. At the end is fine:
PHP:

In addition, you need to put the attached tinted_trans_bg.9.png to the /drawables/ directory.
This is for the Settings.apk background as well as a few other small apks.
twframework-res.apk/res/values/styles.xml:
PHP:

The modification is at the end of the first line [parent="@style/TwTrans"]
Also you need to add the following style somewhere. At the end is fine:
PHP:

In addition, you need to put the attached tinted_trans_bg.9.png to the /drawables/ directory.
This is for the MMS.apk, and I think Contacts, but can't remember for sure
Contacts and MMS:
These need more changes, but I'll have to let you know more later. That should get you started at least.
Thank you so much. A lot of good info.here I really appreciate your help.

[Q] Hex color codes? What are the two first digits?

Code:
<color name="quoted_text">#ff808080</color>
<color name="drafts">#ff990000</color>
<color name="background_read_conversation">#ffe7e3e7</color>
<color name="unread_conversation_subject_text">#ff313031</color>
<color name="text_color">#ff424242</color>
<color name="label_background_color">#00ffffff</color>
<color name="default_text_color">#ff000000</color>
<color name="light_text_color">#ff666666</color>
<color name="label_drop_target">#ffffcc33</color>
As you can see, most of the colors come with "ff" being followed by the actual hex.
Some do not have "ff", but "00", "7f", "c0".
Does anyone know what that means???
Thanks
Transparency? That's only a guess but I think it's fairly common.

Found this, but doesn't explain much:
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/resources/more-resources.html#Color
It is transparency.

yea that would be RGB(Red, Green, Blue) and ARGB(Alpha, Red, Green, Blue) and yea alpha is transparency. 00 is transparent and FF is fully opaque

Just noticed your using the xblast app didn't see that before, don't know how that works.
You can decompile the SystemUI.apk change the two xml files at the locations indicated previously then compile the apk and install on your phone easiest way is to use vrtheming and just flash the changes you made through recovery.
You would need to understand deconpling and compiling of apk's and theming.
