Next Steps To Install Custom Rom - Optimus One, P500, V General

I instaklled rom manager
installed flash clockworkmod recovery
booted into custom recovery
chose backup/restore and selected backup
the backup started but at the end i got this error
No sd-ext found.skipping backup of sd -ext
then the backup finished succesfully and i got a clockworkmod folder in my sd card which i have copied in my pc
did i do everythng till here correctly ?
what should be my next step ..to put a custom kernel or a rom...
i am confused between this kernel and rom thing sorry this is my first time

You flash a rom now. Different roms require different recovery which rom do u want to flash.

So the backuo method that i did was correct ? that is the nand backup rite ?
and wht should be my mem card format...i have it at ntfs...
and whcih rom should i put ?
i want the best speed and customization

Everything ok but i don't think it should be ntfs filesystem on sdcard it should be vfat (FAT32). Are u able to access sdcard from phone?
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA Premium App

I am able to acces my sd card in ntfs format..how do i format it to fat32...
when i try to format from pc it says disk is write protected

I think you got it wrong leave it as it is don't format. Which rom have u decided to flash?

No nothing will partition your card. You have to do it manually. And u loose data while doing it so copy your data somewhere on pc for backup.I suggest cyanogen all that problem are minor. Also u might have to change your recovery for other roms.

Don't worry, your backup went well. It skipped the sd-ext part because you don't have it from stock rom. It done the same thing to my first backup and I could retore it with no problem. Happy first flash , I did the jump last week and no regret, as long as you bacup and can go into recovery everything will be fine. Take your time and read as much as you can before attempting anything.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038338 i think this might help u to flash cm7 with a2sd, if u create a partition while installing rom just dont do it again for a2sd just flash the a2sd file but reboot ur phn after cm7 installation finish with the initial setup and then flash a2sd.
backup all file to pc and connect ur sd card with usb reader and right click and choose formatting option to fat orelse just use formatter the best way to do it http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/

Thanx for the replies
i have succesfully installed cyanogemon rom
it was a simple process...i was getting paranoid for no reason maybe
now i need to install apllications again
any thing i need to do now ? any thing i need to remember ?

Here the thing you should do first.
Flash gapps.
Turn off GPS its on by default it eats battery.
Lower the brightness.
Change the live wallpaper.
Remove the cyanogen tip widget.
Kill unwanted tasks.
Also try this kernel.

With performance governor your phone works only on Max CPU you set so more battery drain select smartass instead with 245 for min cpu.

Yaa but the combination is having some problem now don't flash Franco kernel USB mount giving trouble. Try this kernel.

First, you have to make sure that your SD card is partitioned.
(If you want to test, EXT-2 will be the most successful as some SD cards doesnt support EXT-3 or 4)
Second, flash darktremor app2sd zip, DONT USE THE BETAS, USE THE LATEST STABLE BUILD. Because beta's have bugs. tested.
The one im using without bugs on my O1:
Version 2.7.5.2-1
http://www.darktremor.info/files/a2sd/dtapps2sd-2.7.5.2-1-signed.zip
Reference:

Reboot.
The apps wont be in the EXT-Partition for now!
From market, download and install an app called "A2SDGUI"
open it, and the on the first screen (the left-most tab), you see a button called "Apps are on internet storage!" with a dimmed light bulb
Press it (to change it to "Apps are on SD card!") and you will be warned with a message "Are you sure?"
Press yes, and the phone will reboot.
Go back to A2SDGUI and check, the button you pressed will be changed to "Apps are on internet storage" with a brightened light bulb
Your apps which are displayed as "on Phone" (not "on SD" in froyo's app to sd) are on EXT-Partition now, enjoy

How to ungaze app2sd

As my internal memory is shrinking i'm thinking abt flashing ungazes app2sd.. but need some explanation first. I'm using devoid franco with latest franco kernel.. should i have to reflash again to flash app2sd, what is the proper way to flash it.. do i need to format my sd card completly to format ext partition as it will delete every data tht i have. Btw my sd card data write speed is 6.2 nd read is 9.9 is it enough for app2sd? Plz help
Sent from my LG-P500 using Tapatalk
You should really post this in his forum but anyway yes it will format the SD card and i suggest backing it up on your pc first then format the sd card i use a 16 gig card and made a 2 gig partition which gave me 1.7 gigs of space for apps (oh before all this back up your apps with titanium backup then back up your sd card) after that i would put the ROM and Kernel on your sd card go to recovery wipe all your data and then reflash the ROM and kernel (i have not used the ROM so if it has app2sd you need to disable it) then after you should reboot into your phone check the space for apps then reboot again into recovery and flash ungazes data2sd after that it should be working the best way to see if it is working just look at the available space for apps it should be significantly greater then simply put all your data from your sd back up back on your SD card restore your apps from titanium backup and there you have it huge performance boost and practically unlimited app space you dont have to do it this way but i played with data to sd for a while and found that it is best to flash it on a fresh ROM (ungaze will tell you the same) and also flash it last i love his MOD good luck hope that helps
thanks ... ok i'm tryin to flash it right now .. let see how it go.. btw does mik's cm7 comes with any sort of app2sd or data2sd?
No you don't need to do anything just flash ungazes data 2sd I love CM7 I feel like it has the best performance and its a ready good rom I have heard that out works best with ungazes mod as well let me know how out goes

LG P500 Slow and low memory

I have the froyo final installed. The problem that happens is the delay to restart the applications when I turn on my phone. Usually one minute or more for all icons to open the main menu from LG. Most applications are installed on my card and still am low on memory on the phone, only 30mb. I'm using an application to move the phone card that is pro APPS 2 SD. I have installed the Gemini that also moves the applications. My card is not partitioned. What is the solution to the phone beginning faster and have more free memory the phone? Every application when I install on the phone says low memory. I have micro sd sandisk 16gb class 4.
i also had that problem, now i fresh flashed devoid and use darktremors a2sd script, everything starts up very fast...

What is the difference between them? For example datasd and apps2sd you have to do flash. The link2sd you download the program in the market.
i think widgets cant me moved on sd card via links2sd...while in a2sd you can move everything ....even widgets ...they work as the phone assumes that the partition created is added to the internal memory...

[Guide] REAL guide for FULL Apps2SD using Clockwork. [UPDT 9.28.2012]

This guide is bullet proof. It will not damage your phone in any way or make it run any risks as long as you follow step by step.
What you'll need:
Any Android phone with CWM5 installed
For S2E - A CyanogenMod rom running on your phone. (Doesn't matter if a custom rom based on CM7 or CM7 itself. If S2E doesn't work, contact your rom's developer.)
Step by Step Guide
This part of the guide can be used simply to just make a partition on your SD. You don't have to use S2E which is completely optional. You can use any other app that fits your needs.
Backup your SD card data to PC before start partitioning.
Power on your phone
Hold the Home and Power button
Use volume down button to go down to ‘advanced’.
Then press home button
Select ‘Partition SD Card’.
Select the ext size that you want (128M, 256M, 512M, 1024M, 2048M or 4096M). (I use 256MB)
Select 0M as the Swap Size.
Copy back your data to SD card.
That’s all
Next;
For S2E
Go to CM settings and check 'Application moving'
Install S2E
Check the'Applications' box
Check the 'Dalvic Cache' box
Reboot your phone
For INT2EXT+ (For CM10.1 check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37939052&postcount=1121)
Download from the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124
Place it on the root of the SD
Make sure you delete ANY A2SD you have in your init.d folder.
Boot up CWM5
Mount system and data
Look for it and flash it (In "Install zip from SD")
Format SD EXT (In mounts and storage)
Reboot your phone
For Amarullz
Download the file attached to the first post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310309
Delete any A2SD scripts you might already have on your phone in the init.d folder
Extract the zip and put the script in the init.d folder
Change permissions to rw-r-r or to rwxrwxrwx if the first one doesn't work for you.
Reboot
I DO NOT USE LINK2SD OR RECOMMEND IT EITHER SO DON'T ASK.
When you reboot, it will take some time because of the Dalvic cache being moved to the SD card. When you install something, it will be installed automatically in the SD card, resulting in a completely empty internal storage.
NOTE FOR S2E: Some widgets or applications that have widgets, don't work while installed in the SD card. Those must be moved to the internal storage. The same thing applies to any themes you're using, launcher, camera apps, or anything else you believe should be installed internally.
NOTE 2: Please also keep in mind that when you reboot your phone (or turn it on) anything installed in the SD won't work until the phone is done scanning the SD card and confirms the item is installed.
NOTE 3: To delete the partition, you'll have to format the whole SD card. For that you have to use the Android Settings>Storage>Format SD. Any other way and the partition WILL NOT be erased. Make sure you back up before doing this.
S2E and AMARULLZ work with CM BASED ROMS ONLY but INT2EXT is UNIVERSAL.
You can try DarkTremor's script which is the same thing basically but I don't really know how to set it up so you'll have to find your own guide. And Links2SD doesn't free up that much memory but at least its something.
Please read this post carefully before asking any questions. I will ignore EVERY QUESTION who's answer is on this post.
Thanks to DavySML125 for the CM10.1 tip.
Fun fact: I use my own guide every time I flash a new rom
im using 16gb now.... what size should i put it in?

Depends on how much memory you think you'll consume. I'd still say go for 1GB. I have 100+ apps installed and I haven't even used half that GB. I'm using a 8GB class 4 or 6 (I forgot) and I'm thinking of lowering it to 500MB.

[Q] Internal Storage always running out of space...

Hi,
I have an Xperia Play.
However, I am always running out of space on my internal storage...but I don't know why.
I am rooted with with both Titanium & App2SD installed.
I have very few apps installed and nearly all of them have been moved to my SD card. Yet I only have around 40mb free on my internal storage (from a total of 400mb).
I cannot figure out what is using all of my internal space. I have looked in Titanium at apps using my interal storage and it does not even come close to the 350mb it says I am using.
What could be using all this space and is there any way to find out for sure?
Thanks!
Its the app data and the dalvik cache.
Have u heard of partitioning and s2e?
move app data and dalvik cache to sd ext. that gives u more internal memory.

Hi, I think it's useless to open another thread about same "issue".
I have an Xperia Ray and with only 400Mo in internal storage it's not easy to install all that I want.
I moved all app to SD when possible, made some of them system app with TB, cleaned cache and data when possible.
My Ray (updated to ICS) is rooted and I installed the nAa's CWM 5.0.2.7 "recovery".
What is needed to partioning the sd card ? Is this possible with a locked bootloader ?

U can do it with a locked bootloader. Normally I would advise u use s2e but that wouldn't work on ICS.
Here's how u partition
Backup ur SD card
Boot into recovery
Select advanced
Partition SD card option
Select a size : recommended 1024
Select swap as 0. (32 if gaming)
Reboot
However u will need an app to move the stuff to the partition. Try link2sd
u can partition via recovery or via PC. try ad2sdx by amarullz for sd ext @babylonbwoy, are u wid stock kernel, cos these a2sd things are kernel related. and i dont think stock kernels support it.

Thanks guys.
Right...so I looked into what you were saying.
I ended up partitioning 1GB of my SD card and using it with Link2SD.
Everything was great, it created loads of space on my internal storage.
BUT...then I rebooted my phone.
After a lengthy 5 minutes boot up, I was presented with error upon error. I now have no space on my internal storage and the secondary partition on my SD card is all used up too...I guess Link2SD has somehow failed.
Any ideas?
do one thing just back up all the apps then reboot recovery n flash a stock rom with 2.3.6 xxkph/ddkq6 baseband n dnt use app 2 sd jus use stock app2sd given in manage applications........ good day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ur space will increaseor jus use optimizer 15 tools ..... pro version its an better option!!!!!!!!!!!!!choose what ever u like..................

I tried with Rom Manager option "partition sd card", it didn't work. I had choice between 128MB-256MB-512MB (choosed 512) and swap size I choosed 0 and after 32Mb, but none worked. After rebooting everything was the same.
Then I tried rebooting recovery and setting size myself but it didn't work too.
U can't just do that. You have to use an app to move the data to the memory card. Try s2e if ur on gingerbread or link2sd if on ICS
Ok, I'm on ICS, thought that I have to prepare sd card before moving things.
I'm a total noob when it come to android, only few weeks using it.
First partition via clockwork, then install link2sd.
Link2sd will give u a move to SD option
