I am not looking for an ETA lol...
Now that I hopefully have warded off a stoning, does anyone know the current status of RIL?
ask slayher
Load up Cyanogenmod.
Basically:
Everything is working. Right now we are just at a fine tuning point. All the radio's work (4g, 3g, GPS, Wifi (Actually WPA2 does not currently work but is a kernel issue).
I would give it another month or so. Would be less but Slayher does not live in a 4g zone so for him to work on the handoff 3g/4g he basically has to make something upload it for testing wait for the testers to finish testing and tell Slayher their findings.
All in all its in good shape.
last time i loaded it, you had to toggle 4g off then on to get it working every boot, this is fixed?

No that would be part of the fine tuning. The fact that it works is the main issue here. You may have to jump through some hoops to get it to take but it does work which is a major step forward.
A new dev just started working with Slayher to finish the RIL. This will definitely speed up the process.

Yeah I am not trying to rush the process, I just felt like it would be nice to have a place to see the progress as it happens. So i started a thread
I am actually surprised there is not a sticky with this info in it considering how important it is.
So anyone able to update us on this? Are there not more people working on it? Does the new CM alpha use a new RIL?

Ok so anything I need to know? Besides backing up contacts/calendar, do I have to call Verizon or was this only for custom roms? Anything else before I go it would be helpful. Any mistakes or tricks you found out while updating too. Thanks. I am really scared (even with this offical rom).
edit: I MIGHT update. Still having doubts.
1) Install Update
2) Dial *228 select option 2
That was it. Just finished restoring my backup and installing my favorite apps seems to work just fine
wow.. you guys are actually using the VZW ROm.. after they Locked out third party GPS and Rev A is still ****ty?
You're better off using the custom ROMs that are out there.. they are more stable anyway..
look at all of these people regretting it after they updated and the hell they have to go through just to get gps back..

I don't use GPS, I prefer other devices, and I don't use it for data, the only things I care about are if it makes calls and if the WiFi and bluetooth work correctly. Not everyone has the same priority for a phone.

What are you talking about? RevA was working perfectly for me with the MR1 update - I was getting speeds right where I should have been getting them.
And like the person above stated, not everyone's priority is on gps
I cannot do a full back up with Active Sync anymore? I guess the older versions allow me to do it.
I am just picking the official rom since there is less steps and less margin of error. But really I haven't decided on what to do just yet. I do have my own seperate Garmin nuvi I use.
Can you see what speeds your getting with Rev. A? Also why didn't you have to call Verizon. Is it not a complete wipeout like a hard reset? Thanks in advance!

When I upgraded from stock rom to the mr1 update, it did not wipe out the a-key or dmu settings, nor should it.
As for RevA speeds - I was consistently getting between 600-800kbps

I updated and I don't regret it one bit...I actually like the VZnavigator, I had it on my LGvx9800 "the V" and it saved me from being lost so many times that when I bought my 700w I missed it so bad I almost went back to the V...
I got google maps on the Treo but I had no GPS at the time, then I got my 6800 and flashed to DCD's latest and greatest and I loved it except it sometimes took 5 to 10 mins for Live search or Google maps to locate me and neither of them had turn by turn voice prompts...and by the time they located me I was so lost i had to get directions from some nearby address to where I was going without GPS....VZ Navigator connects in less then 10 seconds at my house and even at the Airport where I work...!!! I don't mind paying for things that I like...
I guess I am happy with my Rev-0 speeds.
Just tested it I got 1.17 Mbps (1198.4 kbps). Since I do not use my phone with a laptop I guess Rev-A wouldn't be needed as much.
I appreciate everyone for posting here. Thanks! Still its good to know I don't have to call Verizon like whne I had to do a hardrest. I will still wait on upgrading. Reading more experiences from people. But the need to upgrade is definetly diminishing somewhat with time. lol

Hi everyone, recently my 4g has been dropping constantly, I haven't been able to use it at all. Whenever I try to use it, the 4g symbol disappears and reappears. I am using AOSP roms, it happened on OMFGB and The new theoryaosp. I have tried MR2 radio, MR2.5 radio, and the newest radio. This just started happening a couple days ago. Can anyone help? Thanks
Bump, help please?
there was a thread about getting 4G to work on CM7... since both of those are variations of it i'd say give it a try(unless you already have);
here's the link: How to get 4G to work
i can't say if it works or not though as there's no 4G in my area yet.
That didn't work for me my 4g still drops everytime I try to go on the internet, thanks though
check if verizon is having issues in your area, my went down for a few days and i called a rep and they said they were having issues. happens a lot if they just turned it on
Nah thats not it, my mom has a stock thunderbolt and she gets good 4g connection

I suggest the OP read the developer's postings from the ROMs they use and do what the developer asks for those that can't get LTE to work correctly:
We have working data on our AOSP rom.
4g is confirmed to work for most.
If it doesnt work for you, read the thread for info on logcats. Get us some of those

The developer can't fix the problem unless you send him system logs showing why your data is dropping out.
Also if you happen to be using "nightlies" stop doing that if you always want things to be working correctly. They're not the most stable things in the world and prone to regressions due to the accelerated schedule. Someone might disagree with me, but that someone has never developed before and doesn't know what goes on when you start messing with code and push it out before it's fully tested
Didn't want to clam up the CM9 thread with this so am asking here. I am currently running rooted stock GB on my Photon and since hearing about official ICS probably being dropped for Photon, I'm seriously considering unlocking and flashing CM9.
However, since I use this phone for business I need to know exactly what is working currently and what is not. I have not been able to find a working/non-working listing for the current build in Joker's thread and have read through the "fixes" thread.
I know 4g is not working (obviously). I also have read that camcorder and possibly mms is not working. Is this true? Saw there may be a version with mms working? How about bluetooth, gps, camera, etc? Any wifi or wireless tether issues? Is there anything with limited functionality that has no real fix yet?
**EDIT...Have given CM9 a shot and with some testing had to switch to something else.
Camera is sketchy, kinda depends on who you ask. Everything else pretty much works. Even if you find something funky it'll probably get fixed within a couple of days. Gotta love the speed of the updates.
I've run into more trouble with apps not being ICS-compliant than with the ROM itself, which is what prevents me from getting too excited.
I haven't heard anything about the official ICS being dropped though; most of that comes from people in panic mode after the EOL leak. Motorola could still support the Photon for a long while after Sprint's EOL date. EOL basically means no new ones to be sold, not that it never existed. I saw Sprint selling Heroes a couple of months ago and they were yanked years ago.

Thing that concerned me about the EOL release is Sprint stating that the only updates that will be released for those devices are critical updates. Sprint will still have to test and approve ICS once Moto is done with it which may not happen now.
As for CM9, does camcorder work for you? Are you on the latest build?
I switched back to stock so I can't test it but the still camera worked fine for me this morning. I was running 0.4.2.1.
Anyone know where I can get the pudding unlocker? Google doesn't turn up anything for me and links are down.
Edit...I used the smaller one. Noticed it is unlocked with that so ignore my request.
Well I'm on MIUI 2.3.16, which is based on Joker's CM9, and my video camera is extremely laggy. It also crashes when I try to hit the stop record button. Also, flash player in the browser is messed up. For the most part though everything works. You can get MMS working by using GoSMSPro, or setting up APNs.
Wifi, and wireless tether works perfectly fine for me. Hope this helps.
Edit, The3Bill just put up a fix for MMS.

Here is a message from Bajee Baskararasa the creator of Rootbox ROM on Google+:
"Bajee Baskararasa - 23 minutes ago
Hey guys I know I've gone missing from G+ and XDA but I've been extremely busy with work these past few days. Unfortunately I won't be able to invest any time for RootBox for at least a week or two. I planned to get 4.3 builds rolling by this week or so but my situation clearly didn't allow that to happen. I'll try my best to set aside time for RootBox but since I got this new job it'll take some time to adjust myself and get a proper schedule. Another factor that will eventually impact my time is University starting in about 3 weeks.*So enjoy stable V4.2 build for now (which I'm running as well) or you can *always try out other roms who released Android 4.3, until then enjoy the summer and the good weather! (wherever you are)
Post this message in your device's thread. Thanks +Myles Nystrom*in advance since you will eventually post this message in almost all the threads "
I think this says it all....enjoy the summer and enjoy V4.2

On the 4.2 build, I could intermittently get the data to work by messing with settings in the network settings. I just turned LTE off/on a few times, then turned data off/on a few times, and also would cycle airplane mode. After doing these things randomly, I eventually got data to turn on, but it doesn't stick. If you turn data off or reboot, it back to not functioning and I have to try getting it to work again. It's very strange.
JamesPumaEnjoi, do you maintain this device at all? if not, do you know who to direct this problem to? The data worked fine on the 7/3 nightly, but hasn't worked correctly since that. I've seen a few posts on G+ Rootbox community about it, but they get very few responses.
I wish I knew a dev that could have a looksee at it. Bajee is maintaining this for like 20 devices, with a few maintainers for their specific device. I mean, I emailed Bajee directly about it lol, but it probably landed in his "waa waa waa! This is broke!" mailbox.

Yeah, I'm not sure why no one has fixed it yet. It would be one thing if the problem was trivial, but data is a pretty important thing on a smartphone. I'm pretty sure it's one of the only roms that has this problem. It also happens to be the only rom I want on my phone! Lol! I've even gone as far as making a build box and attempting builds myself, but still haven't had luck getting things to work.
Someone else I asked to look at it said it must be the drivers. It's stuff pulled from three different ROMs that do work on our device. I might start building and putting stuff together like Frankenstein
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
yeah, I just don't know enough at this point to pinpoint the cause of the problem. I wish I knew more.
He's just been super busy lately 4.3 will be out soon enough

Well, only 1 official rootbox build for verizon in the last month and a half (including 2 "stable" builds) has had working data. I don't know how it can be considered stable with data problems, but maybe that's just me. I'm not knocking Bajee or anything, since he has a lot on his plate... it's just a little frustrating is all since that's the only issue I've seen on the builds and it hasn't been addressed.
If any there's any dev that has any ideas on how to get data working properly, I know there's a few of us who would greatly appreciate it. I've searched all over for details on how to fix no data, but had no luck in finding a solution (tried porting the rom, swapping lib files from working roms, building my own build)... I've also got a logcat of the data not working, then turning on for about 3-4 secs and turning back off, if there's someone knows how to interpret them.
Something to do with the RIL?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4
I tried looking into any RIL files from the 7/3 (working) and 7/7 (next nightly stopped working) releases to see if that might be it, but I don't know enough to determine if it was a problem. I also checked the changelogs between those releases on rootbox(dot)basketbuild(dot)com to see if there were any specific changes that might have affected the verizon s4. There were 2 commits that I'm not exactly sure how they affected things:
7/4: "jf: revert ril changes"
7/6: "jf: bring back samsung ril. problems with slow data on certain modem"
I'm definitely an amateur when it comes to dev stuff though, so I would need someone else to explain if these might have been what broke data again. Either way, I'm slowly learning more about building, github, and such.
So I have built PAC LP Alpha, and everything works great except for the signal. Now if I remember correctly there was someone long ago that was working on getting the KK RIL working, anyone know who that was or if anyone wants to take a stab at it and see if they can fix the RIL or point me in the right direction. PM me if you'd like to try the LP Alpha, can't release til RIL is fixed and til the PAC team is ready to drop their 5.0.x nightlies.
Screenshots if people want to see some life for this phone.
MDMower has an operation CM12 build you can find info at http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/104580-cm12-unofficial-for-fireball/. It boots and runs no problem, I can't check Signal issues because I don't have a Verizon SIM anymore. He does run a modified recovery to swap internal storage and data to make more room. Looks like this is the CM commit that gets radios working http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/81243/.
