I got the keyboard dock for the Transformer yesterday and I am kind of on the fence about whether or not to keep it. I think my main issue with it is that, while it improves the output capability of the tablet, in actual usage I find it to be a vastly inferior experience compared to even a 2 year old cheap netbook.
I was hoping that the transformer w/dock would be a good alternative to buying a new netbook, but with a keyboard attached to the thing I find myself slipping out of "screwing around on a tablet" mode and into "lets get some work done on a PC" mode. The problem is that when you actually decide to "get some work done on a tablet" I find that I am encountering far more frustration than productivity.
At this point, I am thinking about returning the dock and putting the $150 toward a new netbook (or rather waiting for the Kal-El netbooks to come out).
Maybe if we could get linux working on the thing it might change my mind...
Well, to each his own, is my feeling on that type of thing. I am typing this on my keyboard dock now and I love it. It is vastly superior to the alternative (search and peck on the on-screen keyboard). While it may not be "as good" as a netbook experience, it is just a different thing. The keyboard dock is meant to compliment the tablet and enhance the user experience. I also like the portability of the combination when the transformer is docked. If I had a bluetooth keyboard it would not be near as portble and the screen would not be protected by being closed in a netbook configuration. Good luck with your decision.

how is the experience much worse than a netbook? all the buttons are there. when you push the buttons the letters show up on the screen.
i love my dock battery life is crazy long. plus you can still touch the screen for those things that are easier to do that way. i would not enjoy my transformer as much without my dock thats for sure. i have replaced my laptop with the transformer and have not seen anything yet that i need my laptop for. all my videos work emailing document reading and streaming video. i dont do much else on a computer so this is perfect for me. plus the ability to plug my ps3 controller in is cool. has anyone used it for ps1 emulators??

Have you actually tried to write and edit a doc in Polaris? Try highlighting some text, copying and pasting it etc. It works, but not well. For quick editing or typing emails it isn't that bad.
Also (and this is a bit off topic) is there a way to bring up the recent/open apps list from the keyboard? It would make multitasking a lot easier.

I often find stock apps to be lacking no matter what device i buy. I'm using quickoffice HD and while the tablet will never be as fast at a netbook until someone makes keyboard shortcuts for copy paste operations, its perfectly fine for most of the writing that i do which is not copy/paste intensive. In polaris i believe you have to keep holding down for the long menu but in quickoffice you long hold once to bring up the context menu, do select text and the copy button should be up top. The part that is different than polaris is with something in the clipboard, the cursor will have a paste icon next to it until you paste the text, so it saves you one long press to paste.

Ive only used out for small docs. But I guess I got used to using my phone keyboard so anything else feels soo much faster and nicer.
why don't you just reach over to the screen and hit the screen button for previously used windows? I always alternate between keyboard and screen touches. Feels natural and fluid to me. But then again my laptop is a touchscreen too so maybe I'm just used to reaching over.

It's not that it is really bad.... but the way some things work are just frustrating knowing that it could be done so much better. I guess what it comes down to is that (despite all of the differences) Honeycomb is really just an upsized version of a cell phone OS. I will likely keep the dock because it makes for a nice travel package and is good way to extend battery life, but I guess I was just expecting to be completely wowed by it and I am very underwhelmed.
You have to take into account that the OS itself isn't even six months old, and Google didn't originally plan for it to take off as a laptop alternative. The fact that there at least exists a keyboard dock like this to help bridge the gap between laptops and tablets is pretty incredible in itself, and there are sure to be many more improvements to come.
Growing pains as an early adopter are to be expected. Developers just haven't had enough time yet to flesh out the OS, so you're going to be stuck without a lot of features for a while. Just give it some time, and hopefully by the time the Honeycomb source code gets released you'll see an influx of new features contributed from other frustrated users and developers.

My girlfriend owns a netbook that is in a drawer some place. Attempting to type a document on it makes me want to punch babies. It, just like the TF, is only good for quick documents/emails and consuming data.
If I really want to do something I use my massive, quad core SSD powered laptop with full keyboard (or its usually docked into a keyboard/mouse and dual 24" screens).
This is a pure mobility machine. I take it with me on weekend travels and vacations, out to cafes to meet with some friends/clients to talk over a document or media. For that its great.
Its actually smaller/lighter than my Dell ultraportable that I "gifted" to my girlfriend. I used to miss that little laptop and its portablility, I have that back now along with touch screen functionality, a superior screen and with the dock double the battery life. Without the dock its less than half the size/weight.
Lets point somethings out. Your dock also has 2 usb ports and an sd card reader. These two features give the dock quite a bit of added flexability when it comes to emulating a full blown laptop. To name just a few ways you can use these features : Portable hard drive, usb flash drives for music, movies, documents and media. ub mouse, usb keyboard (sound redundant but you can do it) charge your phone, connect your camera...
I can go all day, use your imagination. The dock's main draw is easy typing, connectivity, and longevity via battery pack. It's not suppose to turn the tablet into a netbook it's ment to make your tablet better than they other tabelets out there. Which if you want proof, find some tool with an Ipad and pop this thing in and out of the dock and watch his EEEpad envy grow.

probably going to sell mine...just don't use it for much.
I need a calculator app to add up how many times i've charged my phone from my dock already! another adapter is something else i don't need to carry around.
Instant screenshot taking and uploading to the cloud/dropbox.
Hardrive access via USB port.
yadda, yadda, yadda
It's already mentioned in previous posts, however I find my self using it for multiple purposes:
1) Keyboard Dock = portable netbook
2) Desktop Stand
3) Recharges Tablet
4) Adds USB Ports and additional 32gb MicroSD storage
5) Allows connection to portable hard drives
6) USB ports also charge my cell phone and BT ear pieces
The only frustration I still have is the lag when typing in the Browser...but I'm dealing with it until the next update hopefully resolves this known issue.
Sorry but Keyboard Dock =/= portable netbook. If you try to use this as a netbook it fails miserably in my opinion.
Another gripe is that there is apparently no way to configure the sensitivity of the touch pad. Mine is waaaaaay to sensitive. I think a particle of dust falling from the sky would make the thing click on a link.

^^ i was gonna ask if using shift/arrows to highlight and then copy, cut, and paste didnt work... i dont have the transformer yet so i can't comment on actual use of the tablet but i know when using a laptop(full laptop not even a netbook) i do quite a bit of copying, cutting, and pasting with the keys/arrows instead of trying to use the touchpad
for me its easier to just hit shift, push down arrow a few times, ctrl+c or x, then either scroll to or mouse click when i want to paste and hit ctrl+v
guess i'll find out in a week or two when i get my pad, but i dont see how copy/paste issues stop it from being a viable netbook if you can use the keys
and the added benefit of being able to charge a phone from the dock without killing your tablet battery is nice especially if you have a phone that you can use as a hotspot, who needs 3g/4g netbooks when your phone does that for you and now can easily remained charged
Not to disagree with the op but this is a tablet and it's good at being a tablet. No matter what you plug into it or software you install on it - it is what it is. With that said, I leverage what it is as best I can. It's not designed to replace my computer but it sure the heck can remote into my computer and when I have the keyboard attached it's not as good as a netbook, it's far and away better. I can type, watch movies, edit pictures, pop off emails, whatever I need or want to do. If you can find a netbook with a 1280 x 800 IPS display that will provide you with full multimedia remote desktop connection, more power to you... of course, good luck holding the netbook sideways to read a magazine on it and come chat with me after a few hours pass and ask me how my battery life is doing.

Actually it's SD storage (which I believe you can purchase up to 64gb), though you can use MicroSD with an adapter.
I got my dock and I don't see myself using it that much either. I do want it for when I travel instead of taking along a laptop and I can use the SD card reader to offload pictures from my Nikon.
Man, I just got the dock today and I love this thing... it works really really well.
Very very pleased overall.
I've only had the keyboard a few days, and realize there are several shortcuts I'll need to learn to eliminate needing to touch the screen. I couldn't figure out how to scroll down a long web page until someone mentioned using two-finger swipe on the touchpad. I spent 20 minutes just trying to figure out what all the top-row keys do. There really SHOULD be a detailed user manual with all these tips in it.

Ever think that the XDA was released a little early, and that there should have been a few 'basic' features.
Ok, we all love the XDA / MDA / 'whatever', but I bet some of us feel that we'll have to upgrade just a bit sooner than we'd liked, just for some really useful stuff.
So here is the beginnings of a wish list. Things that I consider should be standard on the next PDA I buy, because after all, that one WILL be the last one I ever buy
Some of this is availble as 3rd party, but it should be standard. It is standard on most Nokias
1) All the stuff currently on the XDA. (We don't want to lose anything do we)
2) At least 64Mb RAM - how many people went and hung themselves when the 64Mb version was released for less money than the 32Mb!!
3) >16bit colour
4) SDIO - it seems a waste not to include this
5) CF slot. CF is so flexible, and fast. It should always be there really.
6) Back-up battery. You can't run off this (or you would, wouldn't you?), but it should try and hold the memory for at least 2 weeks.
7) WLAN. You're sat at home, in your armchair, and you just want to look up who played that part in that film - do you get up and use your broadband for free, or use your GPRS on your phone.
8) Bluetooth. not as important when the above is availbable, but would be nice to have the headset, and communication with other phones etc.
9) MMS. How did they miss this one? A perfect money spinner for the network op.
10) Voice recognition.
11) Some kind of contact profiling. Ring tones, call lenth counters, etc.
12) Character counter for SMS messages (I realise this is an outlook shortfall, but still).
13) An easy way to re-send failed SMS in outlook.
14) Microsoft CE.NET (one day, maybe)
15) Consumer IR - should have been higher on the list. Unfortunately the IR port on a XDA is not powerful enough to transmit consumer IR signals very far. This is available now on some iPAQs. Why not use your phone as a universal remote control? design your own remotes, create macro buttons that enter '129' in sky for example (Paramount).
16) Fingerprint reading. Now available on iPAQs. With the right type of touch screen, this is a reality. What an excellent security measure. No need to get out your pen to enter your PIN, just touch the screen.
17) Master USB. Wouldn't it be great to be able to plug in all those USB devices you have. cameras etc.
Feel free to add your own dreams
Oooh, some of those are really good!
Out of the ones you put I'd rank the memory highest, followed by Bluetooth and SDIO. CF I'd put lowest, especially as it would increase the size of the device.
Here're my suggestions:
How about user-definable buttons? Would stop XDA-gaming being crippled.
Tri-band would be very nice too - if only to make ROM upgrades easier for everyone
Integrated answerphone
A T9 input method for texts - no stylus needed, and very fast.
A proper headphone jack?
Volume rocker instead of button - down as well as up!
Some excellent ideas. Point noted about CF - probably not needed either if BT, WLAN and SDIO are present.
I was thinking about some of those things too, but never got them down - well done. I'm actually looking to produce a T9 solution, but it requires a good think first.
oooh, if you can do a t9 i'd love you forever - not in that way, you understand
especially something akin to the smartphone's solution that can find a contact / predict a number for use on the dialling screen, but i'd be more than happy with a soft-input method for text entry that emulated t9. iirc, tegic did something like this but not for pocket pc. am i wrong?
cheers
movies
I looked at the nokia communicator aka Brick.
I found this device works well with movies, well so they said!!
But what I wanted more than anything is to sit on those long journeys watching a movie. a few short coming swith this though.
-Battery life too short (with screen light on, with phone activated)
-Memory, need more colours & smoother rendering.
-Storage Cheaper compact flash much better.
Or WLAN for watching TV at home...
Imagine sat on the bog watching the re runs of red dwarf!!!!
A few dreams, but those "proper pda's" look so appealling in comparison.
Well lets see what we can do with it....
Martin
Yeah... I always forget about storage when thinking of WLAN.
You can browse, watch a film, connect to your PC with terminal server, all while sat on the bog.
How about this:
plug a TV card into your PC (running Windows 2000 server and media services), and then retransmit your Sky TV over the WLAN. Then you can watch 'Men and Motors' in any room on your PocketPC. Get caugt short in the middle of a film? take your PPC with you.
Well, if this is to be the last device I ever buy, it better contain GPS and a camera as well.
#Peter Poelman
"The last device I'll ever buy"
will be purchased around the time I die
And a giant LASER!
Being realistic, I don't think a fully integrated do-everything device is the best choice:
partly due to size constraints, but also the battery drain would be immense - and if your camera ran out of batteries, so would your PDA, phone, GPS unit, mp3 player and whatever else you'd decided to put in it . It would also be non-upgradeable, hugely expensive (see the new Clie for proof), and if anything broke the whole unit would have to go off, leaving you gadgetless. Oh, and you can only do one thing at once - no phone and camera combo at once, laddy!
So while it may sound cool to integrate everything, I would prefer connectivity options - then you can bring along new devices as you need without having to change the main one. Kind of like Apple's new Powerbooks - heavy on the connectivity, not necessarily on the built-in features.
I dunno, I just think the connectivity and battery should be dealt with (as well as the OS tweaks we've listed) before any funky new features are added.
2 cents and all that
To a certain extent I would agree. It would be nice to have things like BT and WLAN integrated, and also consumer IR should be integrated too, but things like a camera should be an external option.
I think that falls into connectivity - which was precisely my point
Has anyone tried this with their Photon? http://www.verizonwireless.com/moto-bluetooth-smart-controller.shtml
Here is a video to see exactly what it does. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nurgwe20cO4
I bought myself this thing for Christmas from Verizon, and I am wondering if mine is defective, of if this thing just sucks. It looks so awesome, and more or less it works, but none of the multi touch gestures work.
This little track pad is supposed to support pinch to zoom, rotate, etc. In webtop it's supposed to support scrolling and other actions. But, it doesn't say it specifically supports them on the Photon. There are videos of it working on the RAZR. The bluetooth calling and answering work perfectly, which is really cool.
But the other problem is that it frequently disconnects for about 10 seconds, then reconnects. It seems to do it more when I try to use one of the multi-touch gestures.
The other con, that I think would be there even if I had a unit that was working properly, is that the mouse speed needs to be turned way up to use this thing effectively. It's too slow natively to navigate quickly around your big screen TV, and I had to swipe over the pad several times to move from one end of the screen to the other.
I still think it has potential. I was hoping it would be the solution I was looking for. Webtop watching Hulu on my big screen, phone rings, and I can just answer from my remote. Go back to watching hulu. Switch to mirror mode and play some N64 games when I am done, all leaving the phone docked. You can even use some of the voice actions to interact with the other features of the phone right from the controller.
Anyway, maybe some of your thoughts? Do you think this is defective, or the multi-touch gestures aren't compatible with MoPho?
That thing looks awesome. Have you tried calling motorola support? Keep us posted on how it works though.

Not to be rude, but have you lost your f***in' mind, it's cool and all, but unless you're rich, or have hit the lottery, I doubt it's worth spending that much money for... You can get a Targus Tablet Keyboard for less that does the same thing, sans the trackpad...
I would have to assume that it would be compatible, it may be defective. It appears that the multi touch gestures are a part of the actual device instead of being interpreted on the phone itself. I can only assume this because it works on my Xoom, my RAZR, my wife's Thunderbold, and my wife's Galaxy tab.
And no, I don't think anyone has lost their minds, I have one myself that works very nicely with my RAZR and it was a sound investment given that I use it much like Bradleyw801 does. My phone stays docked, then I pull up Netflix or Hulu or whatever else I want to watch or do on the phone and still be able to use it as a phone if needed. I would say that it is almost a must for any phone with Webtop that will be used while docked.
Side note Bradley, check out a really cool app called Spool, it can pull video from websites for offline viewing...

Hahaha, well, thank you for your opinion. I actually have a targus tablet keyboard, I bought it from Radio Shack back on my OG Evo. It's a great keyboard, but it actually doesn't have all the Android hardware keys working correctly. That keyboard is more designed for iOS devices. It's fine for typing, but I frequently have to re-pair it, and it's a little bit of a pain. If someone is looking for a bluetooth keyboard, I would actually recommend the Motorola Android Bluetooth Keyboard. I haven't been real happy with my Targus, and my friend has the Moto one. It's much more tailored for Android.
Also, you say "sans the trackpad", kind of ironic since that's literally the main reason to buy this. But you also seem to have missed where it works as a bluetooth headset, allowing you to make and take calls from the device while leaving your phone connected. The trackpad and mouse input are what I really want. I have a blutooth mouse, with a scroll wheel and everything, and when I am watching things from my phone on my TV, it's inconvenient to have to find a flat surface to move the mouse on. This made it so I could navigate laying down, with it under a blanket, or just in my hand. It's just much more comfortable and convenient. Plus, if I get a call, and I am super comfortable, I don't have to get up to answer it. I can answer it right there.
If you have never used your MoPho to watch content on your TV from either webtop, or the phone itself, this may seem frivolous, but if you have, then you can see the need for this.
I did call Moto, and they are as expected, pretty useless. They tried to walk me through rebooting the phone, and turning on bluetooth, and all of the really basic stuff, so I patronized them and did, but once it got down to the nuts and bolts, they were stumped and told me to return it.
I am going to take it into Verizon today and try to use it on the Razr or Xoom like another poster suggested. If it has issues there, then I can clearly rule it out as being defective. If it works on those, but not on my MoPho, then I may be back to the drawing board. Thanks for your help guys. I will let you know if I can get this working, as I still think it's something many people would care about.
I have one of these and the bluetooth keyboard coming. I'll let you know how it works on my mopho.

Are you really that rich and that bored? Really?
I have HDMI out on my Desktop, never used it!
I have HDMI cable for Photon, too lazy to test it.
I have PS3 and 4 controllers, never used that either.
I have 2 laptop computers, I think they work!
I have gas stove, I think it works too!
I have 41" TV in Spare bedroom, never turned it on (matter fact, no sure its still there!)
I have 4-in-1 Game Table, I have not played one game of pool, Air Hockey, Fooseball or Ping Pong!!
Point is, why buy more worthless (and I mean that both ways! Not going to use it and it really is worthless!) crap!
EDIT: I have MoPho Photon, I think I can make calls!!! XDA, text, and internet work. Last actual phone call was 2 weeks (lying, operators called me at 3:45AM 2 nights ago. Phone works!)

Lol I wish. Luckily the only device specific accessories I've purchased are the car dock and HD dock ($78 together) so I'll sell those with the phone when I get rid of it.
The lapdock 500 (assuming google continues support), the moto smart controller, and moto bluetooth keyboard aren't device specific so I can use them on my Motorola Nexus
Alright so my smart controller arrived today and i gave it a quick 30 minute test drive and here's my initial thoughts:
FYI - I RSD'd a stock 198_7 SBF prior to testing. I did root it, but made no modifications, and the bootloader was locked so obviously, stock recovery.
1) Multi-touch doesn't completely not work as indicated in the OP. Pinch to zoom doesn't work, nor does rotate, but i've found 2 finger scrolling (in apps, in the app drawer, browser, etc) to work quite well. A little drag of 2 fingers up or down gives me a nice smooth scroll.
2) No issues with disconnect/reconnect for me. The mouse icon does disappear from my screen after a about 10 seconds of inactivity, but it's still 100% connected as can be seen by the bluetooth icon in the notification bar still being solid blue and going into settings shows the device is still connected. When i lightly touch the mouse pad, it wakes back up.
3) The OP was spot on with you need to adjust the scrolling speed of a mouse. Prior to turning it to "fastest" it took several swipes to move a couple inches. With the settings for the device turned up to the highest it seems to work just fine for me.
4) The volume rocker on the side of the mouse controls the ringer volume on the phone. Pretty cool.
5) The OP was spot on with the phone function also not working.
6) The USB charging cable that comes with it is the shortest, most unusable POS I've ever seen. It is literally like 4 inches long. No it does extend, no there's no magic involved .... it's just short and provides no purpose.
Final Thought - It's cool but not $100 cool. With it's current functionality, I'd value it at about $30. Once everything is fixed I'd gladly shell out $50 for it, and would begrudgingly pay $70 if I had to. Never though, would i pay $100 for it, even fully functional. Once everything works i could see this being useful if a person has and uses a lapdock and also the HD station. If you don't have either or even if you own them but don't use them regularly, this device is kind of pointless.
Hope that makes sense.

For some unknown reason, sometimes the keyboard will get stuck in caps lock (without caps lock being on) and other times the typing cursor will go back to the start of a paragraph, usually interrupting a sentence that I'm already typing out.
The pads inside the keyboard dock near the connector are starting to rub off from the cheap glue not holding it properly. Design flaw from not thinking that the Tablet will be frequently removed and inserted into the dock.
The rubber bumper on the bottom of the keyboard dock near the touchpad fell off. Cheap glue is the culprit.
Touchpad is a redundant feature to the Prime, and really has no point in even being on it. I'd rather have better battery life instead of it. (Purely opinion.)
If holding shift while pressing backspace, it will not delete. Keyboard needs multi-press functionality.
Mura on the screen. (Bright spot)
Internal GPS basically doesn't exist since it doesn't work well.
Both the tablet and keyboard dock are very easily scratched. There's more irregular scratch marks on the back of the tablet compared to the laser-etched rings.
The stock browser, even after a factory reset (.28), is completely unstable and hangs/stutters/crashes regularly at least 20 times a day.
The worst part about the browser is that some days it's highly unstable and then another day it works perfectly.
I haven't had issues with Wifi or Bluetooth, Wifi has been fine. I don't use Bluetooth so I'm unsure if it's a problem.
Lastly, while the screen is gorgeous, the colors are a tad warm.
And sadly, my phone performs better than my Prime while simply browsing the internet and handling multiple tasks. (Samsung Infuse 4G)
For those who feel the need to give this thread a low rating, that's fine, because this is (for the most part) fact-based problems with MY Prime. You can pretend your Prime is perfect, but it's not. I may be picky, sure, but these are problems that I'm not just making up with the one I have now.
This also isn't saying "Oh no the Prime is teh worzt tablut evuuurrr dn't buy dis." I'm just sharing the negatives I've experienced with my model of the TF201. Perhaps even informative to ASUS so they'll better know how to refine their next models. (If they even look at this post, which is highly unlikely.)
I still believe the Prime is a premium tablet, but it DOES have issues.
So return it and wait or get something else..... Logic

its possible your stock browser still using old data. to remedy this, clear your browser cache then reboot. then hopefully your stock browser will be working fine. just try it if you haven't already
as for the cursor jumping while docked, I have THST issue also. its only happens while the touchpad is enabled. remedy for that is to press the button on dock to disable touchpad. then THST problem goes away. since you don't like touchpad, I would figure you'd disable it anyways.
GPS dongle is the solution to internal GPS. if you don't have GPS dongle, you better send off for one asap. its free and the offer ends very soon. just go to Asus website where you register your prime and fill out the GPS dongle application. then you will receive it in a week or 2.
People need to stop including GPS as a problem there's no use for it on a tablet so it doesn't matter if it doesn't work!

I would suggest you to download the .28 again, this time from the Asus Webpage, and install it from the SD Card. If you keep having those weird issues I think you got a defective Prime.
I connect/Disconnect my prime from the dock very often, and I have had none of the issues you describe.
If holding shift while pressing backspace, it will not delete. Keyboard needs multi-press functionality.

Thats actually a feature... shift+backspace = sup.
Keyboard has multi-press functionality. There is a file around here in XDA with all the short cuts for the keyboard. (there are A LOT of them).
Both the tablet and keyboard dock are very easily scratched. There's more irregular scratch marks on the back of the tablet compared to the laser-etched rings.

It is full Alu man, what did you expect? Any other Alu tab will get scrated just as easy.
Touchpad is a redundant feature to the Prime, and really has no point in even being on it. I'd rather have better battery life instead of it. (Purely opinion.)

The TouchPad is also MultiTouch, depending on what you are doing, it IS useful. Specially if you do some precision work and need better accuracy.

I do use it man! and quite a bit. I dont use the GPS dongle since I use a TranSleeve, GPS on my Prime works wonders when outside.

1) Can't RMA it because ASUS will claim CID on it (customer induced damage) because of the dent on the corner. (I'm also not willing to wait 3 weeks just for them to mark it CID).
2) Can't return it, even if I followed the instruction of that one forum post telling you to call ASUS and tell them about not being satisfied, etc etc. PLUS it's way past the 14 day return policy, not just by a month or two, but 5. Plus what I said above about CID. You can't return a damaged product (physically) and expect a full refund.
Logic.

its possible your stock browser still using old data. to remedy this, clear your browser cache then reboot. then hopefully your stock browser will be working fine. just try it if you haven't already

I've factory reset the Prime multiple times. I'm pretty sure that deletes the old data. If not, then I'll give it a try.
The cursor jumping is not the touchpad, I always have it disabled. (Else I'd be a hypocrite!)
I have the GPS dongle, and it's great, it's just that I wish that the internal GPS would have been the same.
@Zephyrot
I'll try installing from the SD Card, this wasn't really supposed to become a Q&A, but it wouldn't hurt to take advice.
shift+backspace=sup. what is that? It doesn't help when I type quickly.
Yes I realize that being aluminum that the tablet would scratch, but I'm just nitpicking at that point.
I don't find the touchpad to be helpful because anything I can do on my touchpad, I can do on my screen. Again, this was a purely opinion based point.
Multiple issue threads already... post your problems in one of those threads, instead of starting a new one, please.

Hello, i just wanted to shared my exprience using the atrix lapdock.
Well, first of all i purchased mine from All4cellular i also bought a mini mouse to test with the dock.
So far it took a month to arrive from washington (all4cellular warehouse) to my house in mexico, and unfortunately my customs thought that it was a real laptop so they charged me with 100 usd extras. but beside that it is great.
Anyway with the lapdock in my hands i started to put my hands on it, first of all, i needed to switch the ports to make this lapdock compatible, i didnt use the expansion cables because one is really big and doesnt let the other cable connect, so i had to rip the lapdock ports open, lucklily it has 2 screws on each side that need a special size of screwdriver (its smaller), after that you can easily switch the ports and you also need to enhance the plastic cover in order to get to ports to fit (you switch microusb to microhdmi, so microusb its larger and microhdmi is wider).
After that, everything is set to use it on razr, just the phone will be upside down.
Lets see some more pictures of the razr on top of atrix lapdock.
Currently im in Epsilon v3 rom in spanish using apex launcher pro, but it works on webtop mode.
The first time you connect your Razr it flickers a little, dont panic its normal, then it fills the lapdock screen adjusting the resolution.
After a period of playtest i ended with this as my primary screen.
And Here's The App Drawer:
As you can see Some Apps Like Default Gapps Change to tablet mode which is awesome.
Youtube:
Gmail:
Chrome:
Whats App:
Gallery:
And the Sistem Info:
When you close the lapdock and you phone its still connected you can choose a webtop mode like office, nightlight, just show hour and so.
my favorite is office because you can choose 6 favorites apps to show bigger.
The keyboard layout seems wierd at first but then you adapt to it to write faster, there's enough gap in between keys so you cant press a key by mistake.
The Screen its really shiny at 100% brightness which is good, i didnt test it under the sun, but indoors works great.
The Trackpad seems a little too rough, i had to move the sensibily almost at 75% because i could barely move it, you can turn it off and on by double tapping the led on the left corner, anyways i ended up with a phisical wireless mouse which is more comfortable.
The Speakers are not that great, but enough to listen to some youtube videos and netflix, but no so loud to get you turning down the volume.
The battery is alright, for me it have lasted between 3-4 hr under heavy use, it charges your phone while is connected to the lapdock.
Another cool feature its that the lapdock has a fisical battery indicator, what i mean is that to check the battery level on the lapdock, you press a button and it turns on 5 leds to indicate the percentaje of the battery, each one represents 20%, so you get the idea.
Here is switching apps:
Its incredible how android its getting bigger almost as a Desktop OS, everything feels fluid, i love the way notifications work on webtop mode, you just have to get used to use the virtual return key and after that you will find yourself enjoying lots of google play apps on a bigger screen.
a downside its that not all apps have a tablet mode, thats a shame, because after using twitter and facebook app on an ipad, its awesome how they integrated em, in android on tablet mode those apps just strech up to your screen size, its a shame that they dont switch to the awesome tablet mode but thats for their respective devs.
About performance, its not that fast, i would like to say its like a atom laptop running windows 7, you can run it and it runs programs but you need a little patience, it starts to get lower after 3 tabs con chrome, so i wouldnt recommend so much for heavy webbrowsing.
I ended using a news reader like pulse to read the news instead of using chome, this with great results.
When you get a Phone call, You have to answer using lapdock speakers while on the lapdock.
Lapdock is very useful for people that want to have connection everywhere, have a complete keyboard, see youtube videos, use the quickoffice editors, and write faster in whatsapp and social networks.
you can do some web browsing too, but i dont recommend more than 3 tabs open, you can do it but you'll notice the slowdown.
can do most of all a netbook can do without using windows,
After this i can say:
Performance 3/5
Keyboard Layout 4/5
Speakers 3/5
Screen Brightness 4/5
Trackpad responsiveness 3/5 (i've seen worse but could be better)
Average: 3.4/5
Extra Points:
Lapdock uses the Razr 4g/3g connection, so with this accesory its like having a laptop with internet everywhere you get signal coverage
You charge your phone while you use the lapdock so you dont have to worry about your battery draining out, once the lapdock battery its over you can keep using you razr on its own battery previously charged by the lapdock.
For less than 100 dollars you get almost a 10'' tablet without the touchscreen plus keyboard which is great.
I just really cant wait to test this on a jelly bean rom.
I'm tempted to get one of these for my new GSM MAXX...$68 shipped prime from Amazon...hmm
I'm on verizon but the lap dock says its from at&t, will it work?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
It will work is not carrier-related, my razr maxx its mexican with telcel and it works just Fine
Sent from my XT910 using xda app-developers app
Cool review! Thanks

I still don't get it. Why would you carry around a lapdock when you could get a netbook or laptop.

Exactly. If you are like me and can snag one for $20 at RadioShack. Then flip the plugs for free then why spend more?
Hello folks,
I'm guessing at whether or not this is the right forum for this, please feel free to move it if I am wrong.
I have an Asus Transformer Infinity with keyboard dock that is out of warranty and has started "ghost touching" (a common problem with the digitizer). It renders the tablet pretty much unusable due to the constant touches on screen. I'm wanting to completely disable the touch screen and use this as a netbook now. I can get away with that since I have the keyboard dock. I'm up for any solution, including physically disabling the digitizer (if anyone can tell me conclusively which of the cables inside to disconnect).
I've done some searching and come up with build.prop modifications. The ones I have tried thus far have been ro.product.has.touch.screen=false, and ro.product.max_num_touch=0. (telling the tablet there is no touch screen, and that 0 concurrent multitouches are allowed, respectively).
In both cases, I restarted with no discernible effect.
Is there another build.prop variable I could try setting? Or perhaps an app that runs at boot and disables screen touches?
As an aside, if anyone knew of a way to calibrate my screen to induce a deadspot at the coordinates of the ghost touch (it's very consistent in a 1 inch square area, that would probably be the best.
Thanks for any help on this! I love my tablet and am hoping I can get it to at least marginally useful again!
Running Asus Transformer Infinity TF700T with Crombi-kk 4.4.2, have root access, knowledgeable with terminal (and how to edit build.prop from the terminal)
Hi wmdaricthompson,
I don't have an ASUS Transformer to try but a couple of weeks ago I did switch a digitizer and LCD on an IPhone. It should be just a matter of disconnecting the 2 parts of the ribbon cable that go to the digitizer. I don't have enough posts to give you a picture but if you google "asus transformer digitizer" and look at images you should be able to find pictures pretty quick. It is an orange ribbon cable than splits at the end into 2 separate cables. I don't know how hard it is to access this but if it is indeed because the hardware for the digitizer is malfunctioning this should fix it. Re-plugging in this cable (take off and then put back on) may even give you the digitizer back depending on if your issue is based on a wire connection problem.
Good luck and be careful taking your tablet apart (if you decide to that is).
Michael
PS - there is a youtube video called" How to Open and Fix Asus Tablet" by tampatec that shows you how to open your ASUS Transformer up.

Thank you for the information!
I have already opened the tablet once, and saw that cable, I wasn't sure if I would lose any element of the image as well, so I didn't pull it without getting some confirmation first (if I accidentally break a cable clip, I don't want to seriously regret it).
I'll try plugging/unplugging a few times to see if I get function back, and if not, I'll just lose the touch.
Thanks again for your reply!
(I'll post up here the results to confirm for any who are curious/googled their way to this thread)

Two thumbs up. Disconnecting the two amber cables from the screen disabled the touch capacity without impacting this picture at all.
Thanks again!

Hi wmdaricthompson. Firstly I realize this is an old thread but thanks for the info. Just a few questions if you can remember. I also have the dock and have ghost touches making the tablet quite unusable so am thinking of doing your fix. When you disconnected the touchscreen cable did you just then leave it loose inside the tablet or did you remove both ends? The end from under the screen near the dock pins appears glued on rather than using clips.
Cheers
