Believe or not, I have managed to root my phone. It is a big success for a dummy!
I have downloaded Root Uninstaler form Market and would like to get rid of some junk apps. Junk for me because I don't need them.
I SWEAR I have SEARHED, but some poeple had problems after uninstalling and some not and I am CONFUSED. So please help me, this is way out of my league and I can't screw it up.
I also don't have access to a pc where pc companion, super one click etc work, I had to BEG a friend and I don't want to do that again so I can't simply reinstal software everytime I mess something up.
So please, let me know if I can remove
-Timescape stuff without loss of funcionality to sms, contacts, calls ( I just hate Twitter and Facebook)
-Talk (it is Gmail talk right?) without losing Market
-Backup and restore- the default one-I hate it because it keeps running on its own, even though I did not set it too.
-Default input? This keeps running too
-Device monitor
-Uwlop service
-default music player
I obviously can't delete Messagin if I want sms to work? But it kees running too even if I dont get any sms etc.
And come to think of it, I don't really need gmail either.
Please, someone with knowledge, reply. I have searched but I can't find my way arounf here well and i am really confused.
Yes, i use systemapp uninstaller from the market. there are some more of the sys apps which can be removed, such as play now too.

Check X10 mini wiki page. It has a list of applications you can safely remove. Of course it is always better to have backups before removing system apps.
To uninstall timecape for example there are several things you need to uninstall: timescape provider, timescape plugin, timescape, sns provider and sns cache provider.
I your place i wouldn't mess with default input as changing keyboards might b above your level at this moment. Perhaps later when you feel more comfortable.
Thanks sofar you guy, your info helped a bit.
At the wiki page some things are not metioned.
Including backup and restore and everything to do with sync.
semchekin servce?
I think backup and restore can be deleted, but i'd leave semccheckin and anything to do with syncing.
Ok thanks.
So far I haven't wrecked anything.
Now this just leaves default SMS application. What if I uninstall this?
If you use handcent, i think you can delete stock messaging.
If you use go sms, then you have to keep stock messaging app, because go sms uses some stock messaging functions.
You can delete default music player if you have a replacement, but most music players will start running on their own.
I use Handcent. Thank you, you have been of great help.
Be carefull!
I'm pretty sure deleteing default sms app made me lose delivery reports in Hnadcent sms and removing Talk made me lose ability to download in Market

Can you safely uninstal Backup and Restore default app? It gets on my nerves because it keeps running, and if I kill it, the whole phone reboots. But it reall needs to be safe because removing Talk already messed up my ability to download from Market.
Thanks.
Yes you can, you will have no problem after removing it.
About Google Talk... you can remove Google Talk but you must NOT remove gtalkservice cause the market app wont work after that (as you already said).
I always remove the following apps:
backupandrestore
datatrafficswitch.apk
facebook
GeoTag
Google Maps
Google Maps (Street)
Google Talk
neoreader
officelauncher
officeupdateservice
pccompanion
Peggle
playnowappinstaller
playnowback
playnowclient
ReadyToRun
roadsync
semcemailsmall
SEMCSetupWizard
SnsContactImageCacheProvider
stk
sync
syncwizard
timescapepluginmanager
timescapeprovider
Timescape-smallui
trackid
uWlopProvider
VoiceSearch
wisepilot
By the way, i'm using Flashtool application to remove the abovementioned apps.
I just use Root Uninstaller from Market because I'm a dummy. Can't learn the heavier stuff for the life of me.
So I will upadte servce to fix my phone and do it all again.
If DID in fact remove Talk And Talk service! So if I leave the service alone it should be fine?
Since you seem very knowledgeable, I also removed default sms app and delivery reports in Handcent stopped working. Is it best I leave default app alone?
Thanks so much!
(Oh, btw, I was told to leave sync alone?)

Yep, gtalkservice is needed by Market so you should just remove Google Talk.
Unfortunately i cant answer your question about sms but it seems logical to leave the default sms app alive and kicking in your phone.
The 2 sync services are the ones who are used by the SonyEricsson Sync Service which i dont use at all!
Google mail/contacts/calendar work normally including PCCompanion/Outlook sync.
PS: I'm really a noob you know. I just like sharing the little things i know!
Interesting, I have removed both Google Talk Service and Google Talk Storage and I can still download from the market.

Storage or service?
I uninstalled both with Titanium Backup
Lucky ladies! My market stopped working without gtalkservice.
@xeperiaforme:
Have you tried to copy the conversations.apk using Root Explorer to the /system/app folder and set the permissions similar to what the other applications have: rw-r--r-- ? You then have to reboot your phone.
The same with gtalk and gtalk service provider.
Untill you manage to get the stock messaging back you can do this (I have checked this by removing the stock messaging on my phone and sensing an sms from handcent to another turned off phone and got the delivery report when that phone was turned on; until then, the sms status was pending):
For delivery reports in Handcent, don't use the handcent menu - delivery rpt.
Instead go to the handcent menu - settings - notification settings - sent notifications - check "notify when message is received (needs carrier support)".
Then go to Receive message settings - check "Delivery reports" and uncheck Handcent delivery report.
If you notice the time stamps on the delivery reports are not correct because you are in a different time zone, the use the "set delivery report offset" to add or remove hours

Do the 2 sync srvices run on it's own and drain battery or did you just remove it because of freeing space?
For space mostly but they might consume some phone resources as well.
Oh thanks again And what are these for?:
semcemailsmall
SEMCSetupWizard
SnsContactImageCacheProvider
uWlopProvider
semcemailsmall --- sonyericsson email app (not gmail)
SEMCSetupWizard --- first boot setup wizard
SnsContactImageCacheProvider --- timescape
uWlopProvider --- timescape
there you go!!!
and some more details here

Here are some system applications from my stock 2.1 backup. Unzip the zip on your sd card and copy the apks you might have deleted to your /system/app folder. Don't forget to set proper permissions for the copied apks.
Thanks to both of you
Good stuff

sent from this midget x10 mini pro using cm7.2.3.3 14.5
you can delete conversations.apk from system/app folder
and rename handcent.apk to conversations.apk and push it to system/folder
with permisions r-w-r-r.
for me its way easier with root explorere, its all in phone, no computer required
Please understand, I DO NOT WANT TO SYNC MY CONTACTS WITH FACEBOOK!
It totally messes up the sync, puts wrong info with the wrong people, etc.
So I go to settings/Accounts and Sync, select Facebook and turn off Sync Contacts. Then I delete all the garbage and the mess Facebook has made of my contacts, use MyPhone Explorer to force Outlook to my Contacts and all is well until.... a reboot will somehow turn it back on! I'll get the message in the notification bar about linked contacts, click NO! HELL NO! and then go look at Settings/Accounts and Sync and the Sync Contacts is back on. Sometimes I catch it before any notifications have come up, sometimes I catch it before it's messed up my Contacts but not always.....
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is the 4th Android phone that's had this bug! I've run stock ROMS, Froyo Roms, Gingerbread Roms, currently running rooted with a Gingerbread Rom. it doesn't happen with a BlackBerry or WinMo device, it doesn't happen with Google contacts so it's not the phone, it's not the Android version, it's not T-Mobile or VZW, it's a fault of Facebook or the Android Facebook app, how can I fix it?
Or am I the only one with the problem?
Did that for me to with an older version of fb. I deleted HTCfb with TB, and fb, then installed fb from the market, now it only has one synced option instead of like 5 or whatever it was before, and if I unchecked it it stays that way on reboot. I also deleated a ton of other stuff off my phone with TB that I don't use, so im not sure if something else may have helped that.
Sent from my TBolt using my f***king thumbs...
Thanks, I may have it handled. Maybe.... I left the sync box checked, deleted the categories Facebook had mis created in my Contacts list. I've rebooted several times and all seems to be well. Initially I had to dismiss a couple of paired suggestions but no more have popped up.
I'll delete the HTC Facebook and the Friendstream app if it continues to mess up.
Yea, I deleted all that crap, and backup manager, news, stocks, mms, tell HTC... Everything I don't use on a daily basis, and its much better now, not so much clutter and things trying to connect or hog recources and drain my batt, lol

Hi,
I stupidely cleaned some Android's apps cache and I forced them to close; but I lost my contacts and it seems that I can't get mails (maybe some settings have been erased). Anybody has an idea to restart these app, even without widget?
Thanks by avance for your answer.
Regards
Just launch that app in app drawer or reboot
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
have you tried a reboot? usually starts services again.
if not a reboot do you have titanium backups of the apps data? try restore them.
hope it helps!
thanks for your answers, but the reboot did not helped; the following apps are still dead (impossible to click on "force to stop" button):
com.samsung.app.playerready
com.samsung.InputEventApp
com.sec.android.app.lcdtest
Erreur
EncryptApp
etc.
and for example:
com.sec.android.daemonapp
crashNotifier
DataCreate
etc.
has the button "force to stop" ok, but with 0 in App and data, meanning that it's certainly not running.
I lost all my contacts and phone numbers, I still have the sms but without any link with any contact, all disappeared...
Apparently other apps kept their settings.
How stupid am I!
Any new idea will be the wellcome to recover the contacts and phones numbers (+900), I tried to re synchronize with android-sync, and nothing happened.
are your contacts not backed up to google servers? i always keep mine there. either way download supernbackup, see if you can save your contacts and sms. then i would restore a previous backup!
EDIT via nandroid btw
Factory reset will restore apps but not data.
Question = Q&A .
jje
thanks all for your answers; no backup, all data are in Outlook, that's not the biggest problem: when all the other apps still get their own settings and run well (IP camera, ChecmarkCaledrier, etc.), the contacts are not synchronized and I don't know where it's located by the app (named DW Dialer, payed version) to check if the data are effectively lost or if it's just the link to the data..
to Emofishcake: what do you mean by "edit via nandroid by the way"?

oh i meant EDIT: (as in i edited my post) and then restore backup from nandroid (not titanium backup) lol
Well, that's really odd: I still have my sms, all my calls history, all the categories/groups I created under DW Dialer for my contacts, but not the favoris, and not any contact even if I can see the name of the contacts I imported or created before even if I click on the contact button.... Impossible to make any synchronization between my Outlook PC and my S2..
Hi, all,
I recovered all my contacts!!! After many trials of many different kinds, I found that the settings of the Android Sync have been modified: I put again the righ tsetting (from where to where, etc.), and everything went back right! Many thanks for your help anyway, and the moral philosophy is that you must never clean the cache of apps you don't know what they are designed for!
Regards
Well-well-well... I recovered all my contacts because I changed the setting from Outlook to Outlook by default in the Android Sync settings; it means that actually I put all my Outlook contacts into my S2, but I still have lost the Android ones: and it's still impossible to stop Android Sync with the button "force to stop" in Application/manage your services, meanning that the app is still down.
I kept the categories I created, but they are now affected to the google account, not to the android sync account; impossible to reactivate the android sync account. This drives me crazy!
Sad to say, I find iOS comfortable, and have done since the first iPhone.
I digressed with an Galaxy S3 for a couple of months, but then it was not for me.
No I´m tempted by the Sonys Xperia Z1, as it features some of the things I loved about my old Sony Ericcson K800. Dedicated camera button, superior camera, and the remote headset option, witch I loved in its time. The gourgeous IPS screen and waterproofing also is a killer, and the more simple UI compared to touchwiz is tempting.
But heres my concern:
On the iPhone, iCloud gives me wireless automatic backup of my deice. Absolutely no stress to restore it. iCloud provides automatic syncronizing of my contacts, my notes(use this one alot) and calendar between devices (mac, ipad and iphone). iCloud also gives me an option to locate my phone by gps if lost. I have a friend who left her phone on the roof of her car, and drove away. iCloud led her back to an almost unharmed phone.
Lots of things are **** about the Apple limitations, but those things mentioned above are golden for me, therefore:
Were are Android at this stage?
1 - At wireless automatic backup and restore?
2 - At wireless automatic syncing of notes, calendar and contacts?
Are there integrated solutions, or do you put together your own solution by picking from different providers?
Android users views and comments about this are much appreciated.
Google automatically backs up contacts, if you login to your google account on your device. And dropbox is very good cloud service, so add your media to there.
try the new Copy.com cloud, they offer 15GB on sign-up + a stunning 5GB for every referral, i already got like 700+ GB free cloud space, they offer apps for every platform out there.

Oh..thanks. Yes of course google does the contacts and calender. I´ve been away too long
But how about the notes? Do you Android folks have a note app you sync with your computer and other devices?
Evernote is an app for that.

Thanks alot. Evernote looks totally rad, and far beyond anything else I´ve ever used.

Well, contacts, calendar, documents (google docs - if your wise) , pictures (google+ or FB), music (google music), wallpaper and system settings are auto backed up to gmail. Nothing to do EVER, and nothing to BUY either!
Need more? OK. Go SMS which destroys all other SMS clients anyway will backup sms to sd card, google drive, dropbox, or their own server free.
Apps -- auto synced to play store or many 3rd party apps (no root needed).
So what's missing????
No need to perform a backup or restore either! When you sign into your google account on phone setup - it just does it . Thats all.
Oh, and since you can actually look at your phones files you can just copy and paste.
Suggested apps to look into
Go SMS, Go Backup, Helium, G Drive, Google+, Astro, ES File Explorer, etc etc

Okay , why doesn't Google provide a global back up of the phone ? it's really frustrating that we have to use third party apps to back up things separately, why sin't contact and SMS back up supported and built in the android system, even media, this is really a hassle and clutters my phone every time i am migrating to a new device, i hope the day comes where back up is unified in one single option!

For SMS that is due to the different ways each OEM sets up the SMS databases. If you restore the data base from sense to a touch wiz rom you will have issues. With Apple you only have one os. With Android each device has its own distro of the os and works very differently.
So I had my Kyocera Torque successfully rooted (thanks SO much to this thread), had Titanium Backup installed, and everything was grand. But then I got a little delete-happy and wanted to get rid of all things Google. That included Google Contacts. Apparently the phone can't store and/or sync contacts without it. CardDAV, Fruux, Owncloud, none of those contact apps work without this Google Contacts app (AFAIK). And of course I didn't back up any system apps with Titanium beforehand.
I tried a factory reset, re-rooting, took to the Sprint store, nothing is working. My root access has gone away for whatever reason (another issue entirely), so I can't even get into Titanium Backup anymore. I'm not sure what to do. I can mostly use/handle the phone in its current half-rooted/half-bricked(ish) state, but the Contacts thing is driving me crazy. Any suggestions? Is there any other way to manage contacts without the Google system apps?
