SDcard switching - Optimus One, P500, V General

Yeah I searched but i'm still not quite sure how to do it -_-
Well i'm on francodevoid + francokernel14.2.2 + zram and my old sdcard is partitioned on ext2. I'm planning to switch to a new card, and this time I want ext4, what should I do?
Partition the new card to ext4 then copy'paste all files from the old card to the new one? Is that right? Will it not affect the current state of my phone? TIA

[Q] Installing new micro sdhc card (rom:void delta)

i recently purchased an 8gb micro sdhc card to replace the old 2gb.
i performed copy/paste of files from old card to the new one.
the phone is stuck on LG boot screen when i load the new 8gb card.
im currently running void delta.
appreciate your help.thanks!
If you had an ext4 partition on the old card, you need it on the new one too. Ideally, the data inside the partition should be copied too, otherwise you will lose apps and settings. But simply creating the partition should at least help you boot.
how can i check if there's ext4 on the old card?
how can i copy the data inside the partition?
i think this is the part that i missed.
Well, if you have an ext4 partition on the old card, then your card appears to have only around 1.5 GB capacity instead of 2 GB. This is the simplest test.
Otherwise, you can analyze it with the disk management tool from Windows (right-click My Computer, choose Manage, select Disk Management under Storage). It shows up as "Unknown" in XP, if I remember correctly.
Copying the data from ext4 under Windows is beyond my knowledge. Maybe someone else can help you.
Edit: wait... you can copy data using a nandroid backup! You need a "nandroid + _android_secure + ext" backup, but must have the ext partition already created and the same size as the old one. Create the backup using the old card, copy it on the new card using your PC and then restore.
Edit2: remember, if you're dealing with an ext4 partition, only version 1.2 of the ThunderG custom recovery will succesfully backup and restore your data. The old version 1.1.0 only works with ext2 and ext3.
Noejn himself told (replied actually) in void thread that if someone upgrade memory card, the rom have to be flashed again.
yes, Nandroid backup should work just fine.

[Q] ext2 formatted sd card on archos 101?

is it possible to use an ext2 formatted sd card in my a101 to overcome the 4gb file-size limit of fat32 filesystem? i tried but my a101 doesn't seem to recognize the sd card...
thanks!
Yes, this is possible since FW 2.1.0.4.
Which version are you using?
I'm using the latest firmware, 2.1.08, rooted with archangel. what I did was I put my 32 gb sdcard into my phone, connected it to my win7 notebook and formatted it to ext2 with partition manager. put it back into my a101 and it wasn't recognised. what am I doing wrong? I reformatted it back to fat32 with my a101 and it works again.
is there any difference performance wise between fat32 and ext2?
thanks!
Yes, when ext2 starts to work it is very slow.
Look into the Uruk Droid thread where he states that ext4 is alot better and faster.
http://update.archos.com/8/gen8/changes_firmware_archos_android_gen8.htm
yes, but do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong that ext2 doesn't work?? I would at least like to try it...
I have 2 problems with uruk and ext4:
1. I don' want to install sde and void the warranty
2. ext4 is a journaling filesystem and as such not very suitable for removable media, as I've heard. or does uruk support the non-journaling version of ext4?
thanks!
It is your Loss if you don't want to get the big benefits of Uruk.
In Most countries Archos will have some problem to claim that loss of warrenty when you for ex. have a broken usb port.
It will only be a problem if you friy your cpu by overclocking.
But it is your decision.
1. Ext2 + Ext3 ( which is journaling support ontop of ext2 ) are working since 2.1.03.
Is there at least any message Printed on Your 101 when you insert the card?
2. Journaling is only a problem if you constantly change the sd and forget to "safe remove" the card otherwise the speed outweights the problem that ext4 might have.

[Q] Brought a new memory card, Now d2sd/Darktremor a2sd/swap?

Ok, so I brought a new 16Gb Class 4 microSd card and I am going to partition it. I was wondering how much should I allocate to each partition type?
1. How does 14gb fat32, rest ext2 sound?
2. Should I leave any space for swap?
3. Also, out of Darktremor a2sd and Data to sd with dalvik-cache to ram, which one should I use?
4. In case if I upgrade my rom, do I have to re-enable them and copy the stuff again? Hows their compatibility with regard to upgrading?
5. Performance/drawbacks?
Thank You.
Also, does it make a difference which one is partitioned first?
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093317
It's mentioned that EXT2 is to be partitioned first but,
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=SD_card_partitioning
Fat32 is partitioned first.
make Fat32 first if you want sd card to be recognized by Windows... if ext2 will be first, you cant access second partition on the SD card...
What about Swap?
Guys I made the partitions as said but the phone says damaged sd card. But if I format by phone, it runs ok. Any idea?

[Q] sd card questions

I'm a total noob to the fascinate, so i have a 3 part question about the SD card that comes with the fascinate.
1. Is there any improvement to, be found in upgrading to a class 10 card?
2. Can the SD card be formatted to say ext4 or is that what it is already?
3. Can I use windows to make a mirror copy of my old card onto a new one?
1- speedwise you would probably only see the difference IF you did an ext4 apps2sd (and the speed isn't that noticeable in such application)
2- i dont believe (but could be mistaken) that the roms designed for the fascinate untilize ext4 partitions for apps2sd
3- directly in windows you cannot clone an ext4 partition but you could buy programs to do so or just make a bootable Linux CD or jump drive.
btw I'm basing the ext4 reasoning as you wanted an apps2sd partition if not then there's no reason for an ext4 partition on your sdcard.
Thanx for the response.
I was mainly hoping that a class 10 micro SD would be better than the class 2 it comes with. If I go thru my apps and move them to SD, there is a noticeable slowdown on my phone, especially multitasking. When I move the apps back to phone it runs better.

[Q] EXT2 format partition on SD card

i want to change my sd card partition to ext2.
i already did, matter of fact, but the phone did not recognise it.
i am on stock GB bb 71.
how can i get the phone to recognise the card in that format?
i thought that GB enabled the use of ext partitions natively.
r u tryin to format ur sd card to ex2 to use link2sd?
not really.
i just prefer having ext filesystem, as i am a ubuntu linux user, and i know that performance wise, ext2 will be better than FAT.
i would also want to discourage my brother from plugging my phone into his windows laptop in the name of getting stuff and leaving viruses on the card.
Or you will use link2SD with 1st partition in Fat 32 (more 2go) and Fat (2go or less). The 2nd partition in Ext2.
