Updating UK Version of SGS2 in the US - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I purchased an unlocked UK version of the SGS2 but I'm located in the US. When an update is released for the UK version, will I be able to update it using Kies or will it tell me that an update isn't available in my location yet? Thanks.

I can't see Samsung putting any sort of IP filtering into place. Kies will probably only look at the device itself and not the internet based location it's being accessed from.

Thanks. Can anyone with the UK version in the US confirm?

Not a clue but it doesn't matter. KIES is useless for updates. Use ODIN instead

Yup, I bought the UK phone from Handtec and I am in Canada. Kies recognize my phone and offers updates just fine.
The downside of using Kies is that it is not a stable program....I suggest you update to KE7 using Odin as described under the Dev section.
The only thing Kies is good for is WiFi update/sync IMO.

Perfect! Thanks for the help.

Tied to T-Mobile

Hello all,
My Vibrant is tied to T-Mobile (obviously). Trouble is, I am using a different SIM as I don't live in the USA. (Stupid decision not to go for generic Galaxy S).
Now, the 2.2 update is shown available, but doesn't download since it looks for T-Mobile SIM.
Any solutions?
repost this in Q&A
you'll get a better answer in there.
Its probably not the 2.2 release. Most likely the JI6 firmware.

[Q] Exchange Push Email only working when Data roaming enabled. Normal?

Hi New to the Galaxy S2.
I brought a phone locked to T-Mobile and removed the SIM lock via a market app.
I then put a debranded firmware on the phone and everything worked OK except the Active Syn with my corporate exchange server.
The email would sync if I manually request it but when it was set to push or every 5, 10, 30 min etc. Nothing would happen.
I enabled While Roaming option and now all sync including Push works fine.
My Version is:
Sales Code XEU
Model Number GT-I9100
Andriod Ver: 2.3.4
Baseband Version: I9100XXKI1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575468 [email protected] #2
Build Number GINGERBREAD.XWKI4
Is this normal behavior? I've done lots of searching as to why push does not work with exchange but not found anything regarding this.
Could this be because my firmware is not 100% installed correctly and the phone thinks that the O2 sim card is a "abroad" network because somewhere in its mind it is still a T-Mobile phone?
Kindest regards
Not likely to be firmware that i can think of. It must be something to do with the previous t mobile lock and now it being used with o2 network. Have you tried contacting o2?
sent from t'internet
I've not contacted O2 because the phone is a corporate SIM so O2 will probably not deal with me as I'm not the assigned contact from the company.
I didn't want to use the cack Nokia E55 given to me so I bought this myself and everything seems OK except the roaming needing to be on.
Am I running the latest firmware? KIES says that I am but I noticed in was 2.3.4 and there is lots of chatter about 2.3.5.
Kindest regards
2.3.5 isn't officially released that i know of,the chatter you are reading is most likely Sam firmware unofficial leaks,
Kies is generally spot on.
sent from t'internet
Its all over this forum. Some people on Orange say they have it as well as 3.
I'll just wait for Kies to update as the system seems to be OK apart from thins issue. Now I know why its not a problem.
Thanks for your help.

[Q] After Updating latest samsung update My phone is now 100% roaming ?

I have not moved or changed locations or anything but after updating the newest samsung firmware (on friday) my phone is now 100% of the time roaming. I've checked the network settings and it says Tmobile in there as it should (i'm on Tmobile in america with the i9300).
Is there something i did wrong? I updated it with Kies, what can i do to downgrade back to the old firmware if i get tired of this roaming business?
try changing your modem

I am not sure, but its funny my friend has the BLUE i9300 bought 3 weeks after mine, and he was not getting a notification of the update via kies either, but it did give it to me and my phone the exact day it was out (uk firmware).
about changing the modem, will I need to root for that? i prefer to run stock for now..
that's bizarre but it probably has something to do with the phone being an internation model with a uk csc, but i've used my S1 from the uk several times in the u.s. with t-mobile and never had that problem .....can only assume it is a bug

Yea becuase when the phone arrived it worked great (even had a minor firmware upgrade the day i opened which was like june 15th ish or a few days later) and still worked great, no Roaming at all, then with last weeks update now it roams
It's worth pointing out that changing the modem will not work as a valid solution in this case. If one uses a non-LFB modem with the LFB ROM, the mic doesn't get used. One would have to also go to an older rom in addition to a different modem.
I'm having the same exact issue.
Need a solution.
Tried a factory reset. No dice.
Hi guys,
Didn`t find answer for my questions, so decided to link myself to similar topic.
Since the SW update I have done today my phone doesn`t lock to a network
When I go to settings to find a carrier manually, It takes about 2 minutes to find 4-5 networks available around, I am picking o2 UK (as I have a contract with them) and it says : Registering to o2 UK which takes about 4 minutes. After this it says : Emergency calls only and there is no status bars at all.
Master reset didn`t help.
What steps should I take ?
For you reference :
- Phone took from CPW in UK as sim free
- SIM Card used is from o2 UK (contract)
- I don`t want to flash anything, I would like to stay to stock ROM (if possible)
UPDATE : Chosen `Select Automaticly` allowed the phone to find signal, could make a call etc, but after 30 minutes lost signal again....
Kris
on AT&T / same firmware, no roaming issues.
Any fixes for this issue?

U Using it in india? Which network u using?
Any updates?
I did find out that the CSC that was applied by default was KOR. I went in and changed this to BTU using *#272*imei#, but still did not solve the issue.
Wondering if a repartition would help?

If u do not wish to root then your only option is to take it back to the store, so they can fix, u bought the best smart phone available on the market and u can't make phone calls or browse internet(without wifi).
To my understanding, still no resolution on this..
My friends phone after being updated (he just got his first update after having the phone a month) is now roaming as well.. So this is definately something either with our network (t-mobile) or the recent updates.
I've just started living with it, but it sucks becuase it does silly things like makes me click 'download image' when someone sends me a picture message in text...
with the few bugs could be ironed out of this phone kinda frustrating.
I do have similar problems since I installed an update 2 weeks ago. at home the phone says it is roaming at work approx 6 miles away and with a different station I am connecting to it is fine.

Thats interesting, no matter where I go i get roaming. Though a few times I have gotten the 'roaming' warning popped up, so maybe i went out of roaming and didnt know it? I'll keep a closer eye on it.
It is very frustrating and annoying. I've called T-Mobile and they said they would open a case with Samsung. If you guys could call too, we might get a fix.
I really suspect it is something in the CSC. Maybe if we could get the T Mobile SIII CSC and apply it?

My suspicion is wrong. I pulled the TMB CSC from a T999 ROM and manually copied it to /system/csc/TMB, then used the CSC Selector App to change to TMB.
No dice. Still in Roaming.

Samsung S3 on Three

Hello,
Anyone one got one from three.co.uk? I'm finding the software is clunky out of the box. Is that because the three ROM is rubbish?
Thanks
What part do you find clunky?

When answering a call the screen transition lags, the animation when closing and opening apps stutters.
Have you tried upgrading the firmware?
The newer ones are significantly smoother than the original stock.
If you want more "smoothness" then I'd recommend a custom aftermarket rom such as Wanamlite or Omega

When I connected it to the wireless internet for the first time it said there was a software update. But when I clicked on the update it said there wasn't one? Where do I get the update from? I've currently got 4.0.4 (API 15)

Hi,
I'm also on Three UK. Currently using Omega 9.1 (Firmware:XXBLG1, Modem:XXLFB, CSC:H3GALE4).
It functioned better than the original stock but I bought the phone 2 days after it was released in the UK so I never tried any of the stock firmware upgrades via Kies. I'd be interested to hear how you get on of you go this way. What version on you on?
Aside from using it as a phone I primarilly bought it to act as my home broadband provider on the "All-you-can-eat" data package as my landline internet connection is appalling (I live in rural Cornwall!).
So I'd also be interested if you ever experiment with different ROM/MODEMS & CSCs and what works best for you. Three in the UK are unique in that the transmit using UMTS protocol on 2100MHz frequency so I wonder if the Three specific modem which for me was originally NELE4 works better - I am thinking of re-flashing that modem but at the moment I am offshore so there's little point.

Weird audio issues during calls, mic not working too

So I have had these strange issues with my v60 just in this last week. It's getting so frustrating that I'm tempted to factory reset.
If I have the quad DAC turned on, the mic on my headphones doesn't work anymore. Phone calls immediately start using the device mic instead.
Also, during a phone call I can't hit play on anything in a browser that has audio. YouTube plays for maybe a tenth of a second after I click on the unmute button and pauses, and I can't hit play. I've tested on other browsers and other sites and the results are the same. This seems to be only in web browsers, other apps seem to function fine.
Has anyone else seen these issues happen? Or perhaps a solution? I couldn't find anything online remotely describing this experience.

Okay so I'm trying to figure out what all that means, since I haven't played around with this sort of thing for a while. I am downloading the latest firmware from https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-lmv600tm-firmwares/ and I got LGUP from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...er-w-lgmobile-drivers-and-common_dll.4304181/
I assume I can just plug in my phone and hit flash?
Edit: I guess it wasn't the right firmware. I don't have US Cellular. I'm very confused.
Which variation of V60 do you have? You could get the firmware for T-Mobile or Verizon if you have one of these. If you happen to have the AT&T version then the firmware is not available. It is because AT&T don't publicly release their firmware.
As for the process of flashing, it is pretty straight forward. Here is the link.
I have the T-Mobile version but it gave a strange error the other day when I tried to use that last US Cellular firmware.
You can't use US Cellular firmware on T-Mobile V60. Please get the appropriate firmware for V60 T-Mobile only. They are flagged as TMO on the LG firmwares site that you linked earlier.

Oh okay gotcha. So I can see what's available on there is a lower version than what I'm running. Is that going to screw it up?
If I were you, my preference will be for Android 10 not 11. This is because Android 11 (or 12) is not as robust in case of LG V60.

So that's what I'm trying to do at the moment, but LGUP is giving me the error "Error: 0x5319, Not allow to change the device.(NA6_US->NA2_US)" It's currently running V600TM30b and I'm trying to flash V600TM10x_00_TMO_US_OP_1103.kdz. Am I out of luck?
Could you please post a screenshot of your phone's "about" page? I would like to see the exact firmware info. The page I am looking for will give a summary of firmware version etc.

Other than this, the hardware model is LM-V600TM
Excellent. Now may I ask you how did you upgrade to Android 12. Did you do it OTA (where the phone automatically downloads the available update and installs it) or was it something you did yourself by downloading the firmware and flashing it using LGUP? Please correct me if I am wrong but you have a T-Mobile V60 phone that is operating on T-Mobile network, right?

It was OTA, and I've been bouncing between MVNOs. I'm currently on Tello, which operates on the T-Mobile network.
I bought this one unlocked off of eBay from a US-based seller.
Okay. Here is the answer to your firmware problem:
Even though various MVNOs operate on major network operators platform, you can’t use the firmware of that network. So, for example, you choose Tracfone as your mobile company and they use Verizon network to provide you the service. Even though you are functionally using Verizon
backbone, you can’t use Verizon-released firmware. The Verizon firmware is for people who are Verizon customers directly not via MVNO.
The reason is MVNOs are allocated different operating bands by the carrier. So you must get the firmware that is released by your MVNO.
Since your phone is carrier unlocked, there is always the option to move directly to the network without using MVNO. Then you can use the firmware of that network.
There is no other option for you to flash a firmware unless Telio gives you one to download (which is extremely unlikely). I wish there was a better news for you.

Oh jeez. I have hopped across multiple providers too, so I have no idea which MVNO pushed the update. Well, thanks. Maybe I'll factory reset and hope that some of my issues can get curbed that way.
