Download and install seus (Sony Ericsson update software) from site. Maybe you don't have drivers installed.
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
or use Gordon's Gate Drivers found in flashtools drivers folder

Pls HELP!
Had similar problem with my SK17i not being an option. I just selected one at random and didnt have any trouble.
My advice: hit sk17i and see what happens
You need to install the drivers for flashmode first; SEMCsomething should pop up in windows when you try to connect the phone in flashmode. Pc companion only installs ADB drivers, u need the SEMCsomething drivers installed too or else you wont be able to flah. I had this issue too, drivers can be found on sony ericsson bootloader unlock site and here on xda
problem solved
Sorry but i've searched everywhere and posted in the main thread about flash for noobies and all that.
My X10i cant go into flash mode ive tried everything (holding back button and inserting the battery and the "standard way"shown by the flash tool) notning i'm pretty sure its the drivers and that my PC cant "recognize"the device (SEFC device or whaterver its called)
But i dont know how to solve the issue (installed and reinstalled PC companion so many times now and fond the SEUS to download and did that too but nothing.
(Tu upgrade it to 2.3.3. ive had to take it to my buddies PC and did it on there and it vent into flashmode like a charm!!!!!
I wanna play around with ROMs and stuff i cant be flashing my phone on other peoples PC!!!
HELP pleas its 2 months now as i am trying to solve this but no luck!
Did you try installing the drivers from the flashtool folder?
I used to have problems with flashtool not recognizing the drivers from PC companion.

Are you sure all necessary drivers are installed? E.g. the sony drivers that are automatically installed if you install PC Companion or Sony Update Service? Or all flashtool drivers for all modes/devices?
reinstall drivers and download flashtool 0.7

DO NOT use flashtool with c4+c5 mediatek powered Xperia devices it hard bricks them turning them into nothing more than expensive permanent paperweights. It does clearly state this on the flashtool download page. No idea why it's only these mediatek powered Xperia devices as it works great with my xa
