Hi all. I am hoping to get some help removing the CRT screen on/off animation from Slade's CM6 v.3. I think the animation makes the phone feel sluggish, like it can't just wake up quickly. Anyways, thanks for any help! Should I maybe post this in the dev forum?

Can't you disable it through the cyanogenmod settings?
nope. i think in version 2 or so of this rom the option did appear in the cyanogen mod settings, but not this one! im sure it cant be too hard to re-enable the setting...can anyone help!? haha thanks!
Settings > Display > Animation > No / Some / All ?
Nah, that setting is just for animations within the OS. The CRT screen on/off animation was hard baked into the rom by Slade, I believe. The setting I referred to before was found in Cyanogenmod Settings. I don't know why it's not available in this version of the rom.

We are talking about the same setting. I have it in slade87's 2.3 rom. I guess hard baking was used as well.
yes, the screen on/off animation was hard baked into v. 3 of the rom. i believe it was option in v.2. shouldn't it be possible to just make a hotfix to remove it?

hi!
is there a way to put the nexus screen off animation in my legend, running with B 0.7?

thx
This animation is an Android 2.3 feature, install cm7 and you got it

no way to put it in?
Nope

CM7 gives you the animation for turning off and also when turning on the device screen (not enabled by default)
CM7 runs Gingerbread....B0.7 runs Froyo, screen-off animation is GB feature...

I too have wanted this for a while. One of the things I've missed going back to blay0's ROM (from CM7) is the sexy screen-off/on animations.
I'm pretty sure there's some crazy XML files you need to edit somewhere to mess with the window animations etc etc, but I'm not sure if you could do the same for the Legend.
If someone can give me all the files from Gingerbread (and the exact locations which they were taken from) which control the screen off/on animation I could take a look at porting it to blay0's B0.7. I can't make any promises, though.
That...
would be sooo awesome if you could do that!!
It ain't gonna be easy. I'm gonna need to start by poking around in framework files and the like. I also need to get git and repo working properly on my Ubuntu installation. After that I should be all set to take a look at this.
Hi guys.
Ok i have CRT sreen off animation, but the same effect with on screen should be perfect.
Do u guys agree?
its available in cyanogen 7. crt both on and off screen animation.

sure but we don`t have that yet...
but even wiht that we have off screen animation. so why not on screen too?
I think it likely needs to be reversed in code which is why you don't have it yet until cyanogen gets ported.
ah glad to hear heres hoping for cyanogen to be ported quickly or for it to be added to villian rom
Does anyone know what the status on this if. I really love the off effect and would like to know how to make it occur when turning on too. I am ready to mod, just need instructions like this thread for the off effect: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109363
I just installed the Litening ROM for my Galaxy S2 I9100...
It has the Gingerbread CRT off animation, but it doesnt have the ON animation!
That kinda feels unfinished; and I saw videos online of how the CRT animation works BOTH ways! Is there any way for me to get the animation for /on as well?!
Please let me know!
Cheers!!!
Hmmm.... I didn't see CRT ON animations yet. CRT off animation was in Nexus S first of all and that doesn't have CRT ON animation even. Actually, that animation is like a fade out transition and won't seems nice to be a fade in animation.

Naw mate; there "IS" a CRT ON animation as well!
Search "Android CRT Animation" on youtube; (Cant post links yet coz I am new here)
Thats the one I want as well... Could anyone tell me a way around this?
CRT on animation was something you could switch on in Cyanogenmod settings iirc.
Not sure if it relies on the CM framework or anything though.
yes CRT on animation is part of cyanogen ROM. just have to wait till that ROM is available for the SGS2.

The Cyanogen mod IS coming for SG2 though isnt it?! I did see the thread on development...
But I'm quite happy with Litening... Lets see if its there in the next version
But there's no OTHER way to?
Development of CM7 for the Galaxy S II is underway. See the thread in the android development section for more details.
not sure if it's possible to enable it via another method... depends if the CRT on animation depends on the CM framework.
The stock android has just a screen off animation. And that's realistic i think. I can't remember that our tv had this effect when we started it. Just a long time black and then the picture appeared emidiatly

This is what he's talking about:
http://youtu.be/zdWaDS_CIqI
Had both anims on my HTC Desire running Insertcoins Sense 2.1+3.0 so it definitely not CM only...
On Phone-Bricker 2.0.1 I've noticed the CRT off animation doesn't always work correctly. After the animation plays, the screen will sometimes flash quickly before going completely dark.
This might be a common issue (there's some discussion in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1505230), but is there any way to fix this? If not, is there an easy way to disable the CRT animation?
I noticed this with SHOstock2. I'm not a fan of the CRT animation in general (I always disable it), so I wasn't 100% sure GB wasn't the same. I'm expecting issues like this for a while in the ICS builds. I don't think any of the devs have posted a disable zip yet.

I'm not a huge fan either, but I don't mind it as long as it works properly
I guess I'll have to live with it until I can find a disable zip

Yeah, if I have to choose between ICS with slightly buggy CRT animation or GB, I can live with the little bug. I guess this is just the universe's way of forcing some patience on me.

I too am anxious to get rid of the CRT off from Shostock2. Always strikes me as overly flashy, ala HTC Sense UI (though I believe it actually originated with Motorola)

I don't even have CRT off modded yet.
So I assume you have a theme from the i9100 section, only way to turn it off is to remove the theme or wait for me to make a restore file when I add CRT.
But this is a common issue with ICS.
I found a way to turn off the CRT animation. It probably turns off other animations, but I can't notice what else changed.
Settings > Developer options > Window animation scale > animation is off.
The transition animations are different, and can be left on.

Ah sorry I didn't mean to blame you
CRT off must be from Vertumus's theme then. I'll look for how to disable it over in his thread.

Thanks for this.
I think that setting affects window animation speed. Try setting it to 10x, then try opening some menus or adding a widget to your homescreen. You should see the menus appear a lot slower now.

Just set windows animation scale to 0.5x. In cm9, this disabled crt effect and increased other "window animations" by 2x. But in reality almost all other animations are "transition animations" so you won't even notice any difference.

Now that you mention that, I remember trying it, just not the menus in the home screen. I did notice the difference it makes to unlock the phone. The lock screen is also a "window" I guess.

Setting it to 0.5 will not double the times, it will half them. Its a multiplier vs a divisor. But yeah, it seems the Transition animation is the vast majority of animations.

Right, I should have said double the speed, not double the time of window animations.

Many thanks for this! I've been trying to find how to remove this to take advantage of "NoLED" on the market. Works great!
I don't know if this is even possible, but after almost 5 days running the 2.1 update, the flash on the crt animation is gone. I don't know how... the first night and day, I was getting the random re-flash of the screen after the crt animation, but I haven't noticed this happening in the past couple days. No idea...

Its random sometimes it doesn't happen to me all day then the next day it happens every screen off.
Yeah, I got up this lovely Easter morning, and I am getting the flash back on the animation, I shouldn't have said anything. I did notice my problem is only when I am on the lockscreen, hit the power button, check the time or whatever, then hit power again to sleep, THAT'S when I get the flash, if I am on any other screen and want to sleep the screen, I don't get the flash back. Maybe it has something to do with the lockscreen...
BY THE WAY, LiLChris, you are the effing man, thanks so much for this bad ass rom!
wenn i change the config_animateScreenLights from true to false, i have on Galaxy S2 and Note a TV (CRT) Effekt on shutdown the device.
In the big new Frameworrk is this tweak useless.
How do I get the CRT effect again? In systemUI, apk?

The .so file needs editing.
In S2 also the .so file was problematic and Tungstwenty if I remember correct his name he fixed it.So someone needs to take care of this too.
Cyanogen Team was the first who fixed this ,and probably they will do it again

I miss CRT dude...
Ok.. If u disable or change your stock lockscreen and use screen off and lock (from market) you can tweak the animation settings to 'old TV style'. Its what i'm doing for the crt effect

Our stock lockscreen doesn't play nice with apps that can turn the s3 screen off. Probably a touchjizz 'feature'. To answer the previous post question.. No it doesn't work with the power button. Just an app to do the same task.
Blame the faulty power button issue the nexus one had,i've grown paranoid of using hardware buttons, fearing they become faulty from heavy usage.
