Anyone had problems using the google navigation? Instead of giving me turn by turn navigation, it starts talking source code to me. Crazy. I'm not sure what to do as this is my first android phone.
Help anyone?

Why bother replying if you're not helping out...
This is a real issue and it happens to me too. I think it's related to setting your default TTS engine to Samsung's instead of the built-in Pico one. Check this thread for the confirmation.
I haven't tested this solution, but it would've been really cool to use Samsung TTS in Navigation as it's so much better.
I've had this annoying problem as well. It seems to be a problem with the Samsung tts. I had changed it to Pico tts and tested it last night while driving without any issues at all.

I've been having the exact same problem. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. I'll give Pico a shot, thanks!

I'm glad I found this post I was going crazy I even did a master reset on the phone. well at least I know I'm not the only 1 and I know what's causing it now. All of us should go to the market and lookup google navigation and samsung t t s by the vlingo, and send them an email asking them to fix this issue!!! it is the only way they're gonna know about it is if we all ask . I prefer Samsung Tts .
Samsung TTS is in Korean only I think, that's why it says strange things... That's not source code !

Hello,
I just purchased a Galaxy S II, model SHW-M250S. However, I do not think it came with the voice talk software. Does anyone know why that would be? Any way to add it to the phone (other than vlingo from the app store) I have been trying to figure it out online for a little bit now so I am posing the question to those with a lot more knowledge about phones than myself. Thank you.
You mean a voice command application? Vlingo is the closest you can get right now.
Yes voice commands. I thought the GS2 came with a "voice talk" application preloaded. In videos I have seen users just click applications and it is right but my phone lacks this.
There are three, voice talk, voice command, and voice search. Not sure what are the difference among them as they all seem to do more or less the same thing.

Hmm, well I have the voice search but it just searches google. It won't open apps or let me dictate messages or anything.
You are right, I got them confused, voice search does google, but the other two more or less do the same thing. They should all be in your app drawer.
I don't think they are I wonder how it got left off the phone? Kinda disappointing. Too expensive of a phone to be missing stuff imo.
I have been searching high and low for an APK that has those, but I have not come up with anything so far... lost it when I flashed a complete WIPE custom rom... I'll be ever so thankful if anybody uploads or directs me to said APK...

While the voice recognition works very well on my Desire, the tablet has problems with it. It hardly recognizes a word.
Can anybody confirm that?
Absolutely, it works great on my xperia x10 and I always show it off to friends. I on the S1 it can't recognize a single word. I imagine my embarrassment when I tried it on a friend. I can some one say why? Because afterall when you are signed into your goggle account it should recognize your voice perfectly.

Thanks a lot - good to know that I'm not allone - I bet there are a lot of other users with the same problem.
In order for the voice recognition to work, the device must come with microphone.
The question is, does the tablet comes with microphone ?

yah it does. I dont use voice recognition but that might change with ICS.
Voice recognition works for me with no problems. I haven't used it until I saw this thread. Decided to check functionality. I've used it for Maps and Browser so far, following the help tutorial.
Working great.

Not google. Voicemail of your provider!
I already look for that.
I dont think you can.
Voice mail is the best choice you have.
some japanese android phones(like my sh-12c) have build in answering machine , not sure but maybe someone already made some good port !?
u can set the answering machine time when to pickup and to 3 different modes (normal, drive and manner)
there is an example video http://app-coming.jp/ja/articles/detail/64
i really love this function and miss this on my galaxy note T_T
dbaf14
Yes that would be great i used to have this on my Simbian phones voice mails are recorded straight to your device
someone attempted this on windows mobile but not Android yet (perhaps to many restrictions )
I was also looking for this type of application recently. Used to love this on my symbian but was shocked when i realised this had not been done fro droid as yet.
Is there a reason why it seems "impossible" on Android? Many of us have to PAY for voicemail and PAY with our minutes for retrieving voicemail!
And to those who would replay that this is a legal/privacy issue (like I've read elsewhere), I say, why should I trust my voicemail to my phone company or, God forbid, to Google?
Ridiculous omission
I want the same thing for my Note2, and for my S2 before that. It is a complete joke that Android does not have it built in. It is one area where Symbian is superior to Android. At the moment my only options are to have my provider turn off voicemail and refuse all messages, or to have them pile up which is incredibly inconvenient - if I have a meeting with somebody and they leave me a message there is no way I can go through a dozen messages to get to the latest one (especially without pen and paper to hand). Not to mention my provider does not even give me the phone number of the person that left the voicemail.
I've been waiting years for a simple voicemail app. It's pathetic one hasn't appeared. Even my Sony Z5 had it over a decade ago.

so my already saying in the "sh-12c root thread" lets make an own answering machine apk based on the japanese sharp one which worked fine for me in germany.
if everyone have same network talk flatrate and just my answering machine app take the call instead of me and record the saying... its free for everyone. ..
ill post the dumped files here again later.

and again I'm not alone in this search...yeah I'm a precious symbian user too
and here I was thinking that I'm prolly not using the right keywords to search
BTW we even had a software to set up an IVR on our phone in symbian
Count me in, I tried a couple of apps... They don't work quite as you expect though
+1 for answering machine app.
Sadly, I don't think it's an option on regular Androids due to either hardware or programming constraints. Doubt it's due to lack of user interest.
Hmmmm, maybe it's conspiracy by telco provides so they can rake in more $$$$.? (reaches for tin foil hat)
Again, for the benefit of the head scratchers out there ... Voicemail is NOT a free god given right to all phone users in the world. It costs money with some service providers. Hence the desire for "in phone" answering machine application.
hullo mail is a voice mail app that I use. It works in Ireland, the UK and America I think.

Hi,
Does anyone know of an app that works like an answering machine, allowing incoming calls to be recorded on the phone itself after hearing a prerecorded welcome message? I need this app for the Samsung Galaxy S3 to be used outside the US,
Thanks !

See if your provider offers visual voicemail...if not, check out "you mail" out some of the other visual voicemail apps on Google play.
That's about the closest I can think of...not only can you just hit play on your device without calling, but you also get a text transcript of each message as it comes through.

Hey,
Thanks for the help. My carrier offers voicemail but with no visual interface, that's why I'm looking for a application to replace it. and Youmail does not work in my country...
any other suggestions?...
Thanks !
Try Hullomail. That definitely works outside of the US, as I'm using it in the UK.

OK, I have done a little thread cleaning....I would rather not close this thread, so let's try a reset.
I think everybody knows that not every application is available in all locations...well now you do
So let's not get upset when somebody suggests something that you can't use. I just checked the Italian version of the play store and there are numerous Voicemail and Answering Machine apps for download. Personally if it isn't inverted (black background, white text) I don't want it.
So if i may recap.
The search is for an App on the phone(or tablet) that will answer for you and then play a message after that it will record what is been said on the other side of
the line.
So no redirecting calls to another number that records it so I/we don't also have to call that number to hear the messages.
I have also tried several from the "Google Play" market/store but i cannot find one that works correctly (i.e. clear sounds is a must for me personally, which all of them lack. If i want it on speaker to record i can just use my 1980 tape recorder next to it )
Oh just to clarify this is NOT about voice-mail!
An answering machine was used with landlines for when you'd be away.
Check this out, wiki about Answering machines.
And to clarify some more here is a wiki about voice-mail
Here are some of the suggestions (sorry if i miscredited anyone please PM me so i can fix it )
Hullomail (kingvortex)
Google Voice (marty331)
Visual voicemail - Check if your provider has an app (ryanshew)
Youmail (ryanshew)
I have looked at all suggestions above, but that's all voice-mail as far as i can see. (Checked websites and info if not clear enough, didn't actually try it out).
So if I'm wrong please let me know and i will research it further.
Hope this clears up some misunderstandings I have come to see in my 4 year hunt for a descent "Answering Machine app".
(Also looked for it when I had Windows Mobile but that was not possible on the phone i had then. Hardware related and such.
I'm developing an App that do this and it's called "LVoicemail": http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/app-lvoicemail-t3485750/page1

I almost freaked. I started up maps and the voice was HORRIBLE !! oh so horrible. it sounded like Svoice. so nasty.
then I found the thread that samsung (bastards) did not include is so all I had to do was install from play and make default and all is good in navigation land again.
then it hit me. is there a hack that would let me replace samsung's tts with googles tts? so svoice also sounds "nice" instead of "nasty" ?
can I rename the apk and replace it? any chance that might work?

Look up Ivona Text to Speak and download the Amy UK voice... You won't be disappointed.
ehhh don't like it. its better than svoice but still very mechanical like sounding
thank you for the suggestion though.

Agreed, that voice is not that good. I still go to ispeech for high quality TTS. Their US english female voice is just amazing. they have a demo online if you want to check it out. Type ispeech demo on google, it's the first result.
Ispeech is pretty good. Not as good as google but way better than svoice and better than ivona.
I just want to replace the samsung tts engine for svoice. Or make google "always listen" like svoice does and like it does on the moto x
