[Q] Does the SGS2 have 4g? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does the SGS2 have 4g support like the Atrix? Hard to imagine a phone with these goodies doesn't have 4g.

No it doesn't.

No but does have 3.5G (H)

Yes it does, it has 21 Mbps HSPA. Call that 4g if you want, that's the fake 4g att is claiming.

One Good thing i have noticed : it shows G when idle and H+ signal when ever I am using data.

Atrix is only 14mb/s where as this is 21mb/s so its theoreticaly faster

4G right now is nothing but a carrier marketing gimmick, but yes our SGS II's have support for AT&T's (formerly known as 3G until T-Mobile made it cool to call it) 4G network. I wish it was LTE capable, but I suppose that's what the SGS III will be for eh?

I know for sure 4G not sure about 3G?

Ok not sure if anyone asked this question I know that the phone has 4G capabilities but does it have 3G as well? I know it was stated that it did in the article to get the 4G for T-mobile service, but after doing the flash I only notice 4G. Another question does the 4G kill the battery a lot faster because I know for sure I don't get 13 hours out of my phone as stated.
If it isn't LTE, it isn't 4G. Tmobile and AT&T non LTE 4G is just 3G, at best 3.5G and it does not use much more battery.

3G 4G same thing pretty much if u need to ask about it. 3g is umts. And 3.5g is hspa.
T-Mobile does not have real 4G. They use 3.5. So what ur asking when you see 4G your really on 3G or 3.5G

it depends which version of SGS2? so far that i know the international i9100 isnt capable of receiving 4G... and so far that i know (might be wrong) the only SGS2 version that is capable of it is: Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch... which is SPH-D710
I think the 4G is only compatible with the Telstra network.
What you mean?
4g=HSPA+
LTE is different....

Telstra are in the process of rolling out an LTE network.
Edit to add - As Victor said, only really useful on their network ATM. Voda/Optus to begin LTE rollout 'later this year' (apparently).
Further edit to add - Plus there will probably be about as much custom firmware for it as the I9100G (at best).

Wrong 4G and LTE are totally different. New iPad only works with LTE variant of 4G which we don't have in OZ. We already have 3.5g and that is HSPA+.

Gt-I9300 international on U.S. T-mobile

Just curious, I have the international and I am on T-mobile in the U.S.
Will the I international ever be able to attain 4G Speeds on T-mobiles network? For instance once quad cores become the norm in phones (like they are on the verge of doing).
Or would I be better off selling and getting a T-mobile g3?
Thanks in advance.

Ok. 3g would be great. For the most part that is what is in most areas anyway. I just wasn't sure if it was our phone that didn't have the right radios or if it was T-mobile/other carriers that didn't have the right modems for our exynos.

International S3 does not have 4G chip in it
The max network speed that could be available with an international S3 is 21Mbps HSPA+

And is this based off of what's available now or what will be available in a year?

No, that's the lie the carriers have been perpetuating...
Aosp reflects the true signal..
H+ = H+ which is basically 3.5g, what has been falsely shoved down our throats as 4g.
LTE is the true new technology, thus actual 4g, which is why aosp (the OS built by Google without carrier involvement) states such.
OP, those are 4g speeds... perhaps you using those ad blockers was a coincidence and the towers in your area have been upgraded, or did you mess with your apn at all?
otherwise I don't see how updating the hosts file would suddenly give you 4g.
You sure your not getting the LTE from at&t now?.I found this for you...

HTC one 4g symbol

Is the 4g symbol 4g lte, or is it hspa. Does the phone even support 4g lte and will the symbol say "4g lte" when it connects to it. I live in Portland Oregon and am using a HTC one m7 on t-mobile.

It's both. You'll want to download the SpeedTest app from the Play Store and see what your speeds are. If you are 15Mbps or below, then you're on HSPA+. Faster than 15 and you're on LTE. Although I don't think Portland has LTE just yet.
I only have HSPA+ in my neighborhood and it displays 4G.

That's not entirely correct. 4G is displayed for HSPA+ only whereas it will say 4G LTE when you're on LTE. I'm uploading a picture of how it looks when on the two.

Very helpful, thanks. It's weird a big city like Oregon is lacking 4g lte. I had it with Verizon in Portland, but t mobile has the cool phones....guess I can't have my cake, and eat it too.
